  1. I have tremendous respect for what TO did as a coach at NU, but I'm not sure why he thinks that alone should qualify him to be governor. He doesn't talk at all about the 6 years he spent in the House to prove why he could have been an effective head of state, instead he uses his 25 years of coaching? Perhaps TO overestimated just how much stock voters put into his creditials as a football coach and underestimated them as voters who look at the issues and choose the candidate they feel most comfortable with to run the state.
  2. I think DW is a very, very good recruiter. Having said that, 3 of the 4 commits are from Nebraska (and Hoch is close in IA) and that is one of Wags' areas. Since there are so few D-1 athletes in this area, he is probably a lead/partial recruiter on all of them. Also, I believe there was a piece out a few weeks ago that quoted one of the coaches as saying every recruit we go after has multiple coaches recruiting them. So even if their name isn't on rivals, there is a good chance that more than just coach Wags was recruting them.
  3. Wasn't AJ Wallace from that area? He was a guy we were targeting a couple years ago that went to PSU.
  4. Definitely have a good shot at this kid. He is going to have offers from all over the place so it's not a done deal yet. The fact that he likes us over schools like Michigan, UCLA, etc. is a good sign. This is going to be an O-line class for the ages.
  5. I think a lot of people are going to be surprised at how much our corners "improve" this season. What actually is going to happen is our safety play is going to be much, MUCH improved over last season and in turn is going to make our corners look better. Secondly, there is NO WAY Jones/Grix will be worse, may not be better (although I'm willing to bet both are) but they certinaly (barring injury) are not going to be worse. Mark my words, improved safety play is going to magically make our corners look much improved.
  6. I agree completely, I don't know where you thought I implied that people shouldn't go. All I was saying is that in the past a lot of people have gotten all bent out of shape about not having the #1 O against the #1 D. I was just pointing out that this is a practice and having the top units go against each other would do nothing except make for perhaps a more competitive practice but would have the potential to stir up alot of undue concern. I will be there like I have for the past four spring games. I love the atmosphere and getting to see the Huskers in any capacity.
  7. I think Brooks has made the adjustment in attitude and will contribute a lot in the coming years. Athletically, he was one of our better recievers two years ago, but strength-wise he was sorely lacking. I think I read somewhere that his high school didn't have much for a weight-program and he hadn't really lifted much coming into college, that obviously set him back. I think that him willing to take a redshirt last year showed that he is willing to make himself better and is committed to being here. If he had simply wanted the easy way out he could have left after the '05 season and went somewhere where he didn't have to work as hard to see the field. He can see the talent we have brought in at reciever and by all accounts has put in the time and effort to make an impact and now it is up to him to beat out the other receivers.
  8. I think our inability to blitz linebackers last year had more to do with our lack of safety help compunded with poor corner play. Regardless of Bowman's status (and barring injuries) there is no way corner play will be worse. Jones has experience and with experience comes confidence. Murillo seems to have the tools, he just needs experience and confidence, hopefully the confidence will come early for him. Grixby can't be any worse. He still may not be all-world, but he isn't going to be worse. And one thing I will guarentee you is that our safety play is going to be better. You can talk about being unproven, yadda, yadda, but if you don't think having either Asante or Thenarse is an improvement over last year, then you are only kidding yourself. I'm not saying our secondary are going to be world beaters next year, but barring more injuries there is no reason to believe that it will be any worse.
  9. I just don't see how having 1's vs 1's in the Spring Game would do any good. The 1's go against the 1's during spring practice all the time, so having one more scrimmage with them going against each other wouldn't make that big of a difference. What it would do is set up lots of bitching by the fan base. Say Keller/Ganz/whoever really lights it up against our #1 defense. Then all anyone will talk about is how bad the defense is. Conversely if a QB struggles, all anyone will talk about is how they aren't ready and how the offense is going to struggle. Neither of these assesment would be fair from only watching one scrimmage, but you can bet your bottom dollar that lots of people would make those assumptions. Having the 1's vs. 2's, etc may not make for the most excitment for the fans, but you can bet that those second string guys are going to play their asses off to show that they can perform. The past few years we haven't had the depth for the 2nd string to really give much of a challenge. but at most positions that is starting to change. Everyone needs to remember that while it is a fun event and gives us a much needed "football fix" it is still a practice. Having one extra practice with 1's vs 1's isn't going to make a big difference in the grand scheme of things. What it does do is set up alot of unnecessary worrying and doubting that would come with good/bad performances on either side.
  10. I think it's really pretty close: Nebraska 40% - Notre Dame 30% - Michigan 30% I get the same impression. My only hope is that if he doesn't choose Nebraska that some of our "fans" don't jump off the deep end. Nothing worse than people sitting behind their computers judging a 18year old kid for making his college choice. Also if he chooses to go elsewhere it would be great if people didn't blame the coaches for "losing" a recruit and this being a huge deal because he is from Nebraska. We offered him, our coaches stayed in contact with him, it's up to Trevor now. Of course if he just chooses to be "N" this is all moot
  11. Not having Baker Steinkuhler on this list is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. He is the #1 recruit in the state next year bar none. I think Fisher is a good athlete and I would love to have him, but he's not a top 100 player in the nation. I'm guessing darts were used when they selected this list. Good thing is nobody pays attention to ESPN's rankings, even the writers at ESPN. I remember after signing day one of their writers had a story about how this was Callahan's best class, even though the ESPN rankings had us inthe 40's or something. Even as inexact of a science as the whole recruiting thing is, ESPN is just plain worthless.
  12. I wish Callahan would just tell us the entire gameplan before each game and show us the plays they are planning to run so that we would know what to expect. I also wish he would tell us what he personally thinks of each and every player. Then he could jump up and down, yell and scream, and tell everyone to go play intramurals, brother. Oh and after each loss, it would be great if instead of saying the other team played well I wish he would say "THET ARE WHAT WE THOUGHT THEY WERE. IF YOU WANNA CROWN EM, CROWN EM." Yeah, that would be great. Meanwhile, back on earth. Are you serious? I mean really are you? Look at almost any successful coach and listen to their press conferences/dealings with the media. They ALWAYS SAY THE SAME THING. Belichick, Osborne, Parcells, They all hate talking to the media. You wanna know why? THAT'S NOT THEIR DAMN JOB! Their job is to coach a team and win football games not come up with some great quips and give us indepth information on the team. Oh, I also remember one time when Callahan tried to be honest and give a candid response. He said his team (the Raiders) played like the "dumbest team in America." Which of course if anyone who has watched any games of them in the past few years knows is completely true, he gets completely blasted for saying that. The guys just can't win.
  13. I base my comment on Elmo's track record with other players such as Adrain Turner. He said a player a short as Turner would never play and then they recruit Cortney Grixby. Grixby was offered a schollarship by Solich. It is almost always the case that if a new coach is hired (especially as late in the recruiting cycle as Callahan was) that the new coach honors the schollarship offers of the previous coach. Also, coming out of high school Grixby was highly touted (top 5 in that nation I believe). So even if Elmo has some history of saying that he doesn't like small corners he had almost nothing to do with the offering/recruitment of Grixby.
  14. The guy realized he wasn't going to see much action and decided to move on. Not to be mean but if he couldn't crack the two deep last year he sure as heck wasn't going to this year. I love how whenever a kid decides to leave the team it must mean he was "kicked to the curb" Good luck to Titus, i believe he still plans on getting his degree and hopefully he is very successful in whatever he does after college.
  15. If the coaches believe he can make an immediate impact as a return man it is DEFINITELY worth it for him to play next season. Since he will be here for spring it won't be as big of a shock to his system to play against D-1 competition. Plus with the sudden shortage we have at RB it is going to be imperative that he be ready to go if he were needed to go.
  16. But I think they may have dropped a few things from his quotes: "I love their history [of being overrated] and how they are on TV every week [beating up on service academies]. You get a lot of exposure there [on the side lines watching Big Ten Wide Receivers blow past their crappy defense] and they always go to bowl games [and lose]. Notre Dame can take you places other schools can't [like a fully televised sub-.500 season]."
  17. If he has his heart set on going to Notre Dame, so be it. He is a good player and I would love for him to come to Nebraska but if he would rather go somewhere else that is his decision and his alone. Our coaches offered him early and have been actively recruting him, if he decides he wants to go elsewhere, so be it.
  18. Watch out for Pierre Allen, he definitely has the tools. Also, barring injury Ty Steinkuhler should be at base end, I think this is a good fit and will push for alot of playing time.
  19. It sure would be nice to be a state that consistently produces as much talent as Missouri (not a knock on our in-state talent, just the facts). Luckily, so far Pinkel hasn't had a real good hold on the state. If he figures out how to keep everyone home, they will be a force in the North. There is no reason that the only real college in a state with that much talent shouldn't be in the top 25 consistently.
  20. I would switch Fisher and Grixby, otherwise it looks like a good list. Definitely a good year for in-state talent.
  21. Yep. Just pray that the weather is good, if it is I think we could see 70,000+ at the game. It will be the first time in quite a few years that the whole stadium will be open. Hopefully we can get a good number of recruits there, they will be blown away.
  22. Have heard that grades and an large ego MAY be a problem with him. Texas has apparently backed off. Kid has tons of ability and is a tremendous athlete. We'll have to see how it all unfolds.
  23. Arkansas? Alabama? Oklahoma? USC? And those are just the teams that have had problems that made National news. Come back when you have something to actually add to the discussion.
