  1. Also, I'm glad Flood is on the other side of this argument. I wouldn't want to be on his team.
  2. Yes, it would. Provided the player followed the law and got the permits from the city of Lincoln and the school and whoever else might be required to issue a permit. In fact, it would be admirable. That flag is an ever-changing piece of CLOTH that holds no meaning except what people attach to it. I am a native american, a member of an Indian Tribe, the Rosebud Sioux of South Dakota. That flag is a symbol of repression and conquest, of ill deeds and immoral behavior, murder of children and elders. That flag represents the unwelcome conquest of nations and tribes from the East Coast to Hawaii. You stand there in your 'sacred ground' of worship for the US Government and tell me I am wrong. My people live on a reservation in South Dakota and are faced with 90% alcoholism, universal poverty, an unemployment rate of 80% and an average life span of 48. You tell me, you stupid son of a bitch. Is that flag sacred? It killed millions, and the survivors of that massacre in the 1800s and 1900s are still among you. How sacred is that damn piece of cloth? Go to Whiteclay Nebraska and plead your sorry-ass case to a bunch of drunk Indians who hate you. I fought for that damn flag. And I tell you. it is worth the white blood spilled in its name. But it takes no consideration for MY people or the other races that died to preserve the rights you have. We are many and we are invisible. Our contribution has been, will be forgotten. Wow really? And how did you find your way to huskerboard?
  3. Good point. And now they basically have to keep doing it until they get what they want right?
  4. Are you saying they are trying to start their own, better country? You realize that was the result of the protest right?
  5. But you can love something and still disagree with it. Vehemently, even. Parents love their children, but arguing with your parents is almost a rite of passage amongst teens. It's so common as to be a trope on nearly every sitcom & teen movie ever made. Spouses love each other, but fights in marriage are as common as grains of sand on the seashore. Spouses argue vehemently about important and trivial things, make up & move on with life. Love is a wonderful thing, but love doesn't mean never disagreeing, or always seeing eye to eye. You can love something and be mad at it. You can love something and be wounded by it. Let's not pretend that love of country supersedes every other situation. There are times when country doesn't meet the legitimate expectations of our love. In those times, we're justified to demand better. We can even be angry. So does a good parent occasionally say "I disagree with you, I'm not going to do this parenting thing today" "I don't agree, I'm not going to do this American thing today"
  6. Is that like blazing a fatty? If so, that would be illegal to do in a public setting or on the campus of an educational institution, even in Colorado. It would also violate NCAA & AD rules. True. Maybe we should allow everyone in the stadium to burn a fatty and no one will want to debate this anymore. I'm aware that flag burning is allowed under the 1st amendment as a form of protest. Is there a certain point where the supportive group wouldn't be able to take it anymore? Is it cool if we add something to the tunnel walk to supplement the protest? Someone earlier said they ARE entitled to the platform of Nebraska football. So is there a point where a line is crossed but may still be "allowable by the 1st amendment?"
  7. When they stand for the national anthem before football games, do they speak for every person in Nebraska as they're supposed to?Well national pride is generally considered a good thing. So's reflection. So's prayer. So's refusing to abide injustice. I'm not saying they are not. Like I said the national anthem represents the good and bad, its just not the place for protest. You don't have to live in this country if you don't like it. Would this take place on Saturday if another Sept 11 happened tomorrow? Does anyone remember what national pride felt like after that? Is that what it really takes to get it back? Lastly, I'm still confused as to what this is achieving. Raising awareness? Raising awareness in order to what? Did MLK sit down during the national anthem before he made a MEANINGFUL difference?

  9. Nebraska football represents the state of Nebraska. I do not care what people do in their own time. This "platform" that players think they are entitled to doesn't belong to them. These players do not speak for every person in Nebraska. Therefore keep this crap in your personal time. MRI said a lot of good things at the press conference. Why couldn't he say those things and not bring a negative aspect into it? Why couldn't he speak about this issue without first pissing people off? This is the perception: I don't live in Nebraska anymore. People at work say "hey saw those players on your favorite football team didn't stand for the national anthem, looks like people in Nebraska are unpatriotic people." Is that true? No. But that's the perception when individuals represent something larger than themselves.
  10. I think Kirk shouldn't have escalated the situation. I mean the guy was talking about his sh**ty predictions and he changed the topic completely. I'd say as a guy who represents ESPN he should be delivering slightly more class on Twitter
  11. Is it possible that Wisconsin will be number 1 and we will be 7-0 for that game? Yes. Is it possible that we beat them and go to Ohio state as the new #1 team? Yes. Is it possible that gameday goes to 2 Nebraska games in consecutive weeks? YES!!
  12. against this years schedule.....12-0 could very well be considered "back" I guess then my question would be what do you consider "back." Nebraska used to live in the top 10. What if we go 12-2 this year and 7-6 next year? Is that back? When I analyze this I try to think about 15 years from now when we look back. If we have sustained success over that period of time (being in the national conversation) then we are back. If we had one break out year followed by 5-6 years of mediocrity, I would say we were not. I don't think that would happen given our recruiting momentum, but what if it did? How many times in the last 15 years did we say "Nebraska is back?" Restore the order Win over Arizona Win over Miami Were we ever back? I would say no, because now we have the perspective of time. We won't have that perspective after one season.
  13. Being back would be sustained success over a period of time, and that period of time is not one season. Even if we pull an Iowa this year and get to 12-0, I wouldn't say we are back. Iowa likely won't do that again in a long time.
  14. Who cares about a rose bowl trophy? Let's put another number up there next to 1999!
  15. If this season ends up being as awesome as we all want it to be, last year's Purdue/Mich st will be the turning point. One week we looked worse than we have in decades, and the next week we looked better than we have in quite a few years. As far as "being back" that would take at least a close loss in a conference championship game.
  16. The timing of this win couldn't be better. They won't be overlooking anyone and can really build off this before they go to Wisconsin and Ohio St. They should be able to get to 7-0 and then who knows. Wisconsin didn't look great today. Ohio St is legit though. I hope they manage to drop a couple games and fall out of the east. Everyone else looks beatable.
  17. Okie st would be a conf game. I think you gotta go back to 2001 Notre Dame.
  18. Overall good play. If we get rid of that crazy backwards pass in the red zone, the two passes that should have been thrown away where Tommy was getting banged up, and that near disastrous stupid play that hit the motion man (Moore?) And was almost fumbled we looked pretty Damn good
  19. There's a table reserved for college football royalty. The usual suspects have a chair, Alabama, Ohio st, Oklahoma. Nebraska also has a chair, near the head of the table, made from solid American oak. It's dinged up a bit but you can tell from the layers of varnish and stain that it's been there for a while, and it looks heavy. It's been empty for a few years now, waiting for someone to sit down. Oregon also has a chair, it's relatively new. It's a plastic lawn chair, painted a greenish chrome color, looks kinda brittle though as those chairs have a shelf life. This week we push that thing out of the way and take OUR seat back!!! BEAT OREGON!!!
  20. If this was a conference thing it wouldn't really give us an advantage. Penalties suck because they hurt OUR team. Don't we want to find a solution that would help us only? This doesn't tie to player safety
