  1. What proof of this do you have? I ask because this sounds like Osborne was forced out and Osborne himself has gone on record to say he wasn't forced out. osborne went on record saying the only possible thing he could say in that sitatuation. pelini was on record saying something different. not saying either is true, but i don't think pelini would just make that crap up, and i wouldn't expect osborne to every confirm it as fact. Some people here have trouble reading between the lines. Osborne was probably brought in to "right the ship" after the Steve Peterson experiment ran off the rails probably less so then he was brought in to save Perlman's ass from all the pitchfork wielding fans and boosters for making that hire, giving everyone contract extensions, etc. Then once things calmed down and Perlman decided Bo had to go in comes another puppet that was hired without consulting or any involvment by the current interim AD, who is a living legend in that place, and he gets phased out so HP could push his agenda without someone above football who could actually push back at all. So no, the Chancellor shouldn't be judged on Athlectics usually excepting that he keeps sticking his nose in them. That's why if Coach Riley ends up with a similar record here to his long history of mediocrity in Corvalis Perlman will need to get canned along with the rests of the staff and AD. Nobody is rooting for that, but that'll be the reality of the situation if the program needs saving again. Otherwise we'll just keep letting Perlman repeat the same cycle that's already kept the program down for over a decade now.
  2. Your mother wasn't big on drilling in the whole two wrongs lesson was she? Murdering or kidnapping people for the purpose of terrorizing a country who's policies you don't like is just as horrible. Nobody here is arguing that there shouldn't be consequences or justice for people doing that. Torturing people isn't about information, no matter what the evil jackasses running and authorizing this program try to tell you (whilst in the next sentence saying FEAR THE TERRORISTS, LOOK THE OTHER WAY OR WE'RE ALL IN DANGER!). It's about revenge, which you obviously get since you seem so eager to want to dish it out. It's about intimidation. It doesn't work on either count, in fact it weakens the perception of the US with people throughout the world which increases the people that see the US as an evil imperialist nation. It shows me that our intelligence leadership are no better then a radical warlord murdering or kidnapping children with a guerrilla army of fanatics and conscripted kids or a murderer trying to get attention with gruesome executions. The difference is we (the western world) have the means to bring people to justice and/or death in combat whilst attempting to bring them to justice and not subject them to the same barbarism that they inflict on others. Then America gets to actually be a leader in the world not some hypocritical state that seeks revenge on anyone we can get our hands on. Instead we strengthen their numbers and resolve because we let our fears take over and lose our own argument that the United States is united in it's stand for human rights and just basic human decency. Please never run for office.
  3. Every single person up to and including Bush that authorized this should be tried in the Hague for war crimes. The fact that anyone thinks that this is acceptable is just plain sickening. Rape and Torture is subhuman... It's perpetrated by evil men. Every time I think maybe we've progressed as a species farther then the dark ages at least I can count on something like this to come up and prove me wrong.
  4. Not everyone is upset or unhappy. I certainly don't think anyone's crucifying the guy. I think some of us are a little miffed see the staff hires. It looks like we traded a mean guy that overly loyal to his friends for a really nice guy that's cheaper and overly loyal to his friends. Which is fine, but they aren't upgrades on paper and he definitely has the opportunity to upgrade his staff here. We see that he's great with quarterbacks, which is nice... and he knocks off a big team every year, great. We still live in Nebraska in October and November so the passing game isn't as important as strong ground game and one big win a year when you're so bad you catch some team napping because they decided to skip practice for a week won't keep you employed at Nebraska. Basically it looks on paper like we just got rid of Pelini to become another Northwestern. Which does not build a consistent nationally relevant program. If he has a losing season here he's going to be feeling the fire... Along with some other people in the University. Pelini needed to go but did we upgrade the staff? that's a big question with a large bunch of data to cast doubts. I'll be happy if he proves us doubters wrong and builds a dynasty, but until he does I will remain skeptical. He seems like a nice guy and I hope he's successful, but he's not an exciting hire nor does his staff so far make me feel like we've got no other direction to go but up.
  5. Yeah this email stuff is ridiculous for two reasons, first that any fans even care and second I've got news for any players upset about email communication. This isn't some girl your sticking it too breaking up with you, you're training to join the business/grown up world and email is a big part of it for all manner of unpleasant communication. Grow up and get used to it now.
  6. he didn't hire golden and I doubt he has fond memories of Miami considering the sh**pile they tried to dump on his lap.
  7. Rumor was he and his father tried to get hired here last time and were told thanks, but no thanks. Good thing considering all the NCAA violations he had going on at Tennessee before he fled for USC.
  8. You know at some point you've either gotta put up or shut up about winning championships. When you set the standard then try to act like 9 wins is the goal when you can't deliver what you all talk about before you get the team embarrassed in the big games you just seem like a douche. I've got another one "Embarrassed by Michigan state, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and barely better then Iowa. What do you think about that Sh*t?" and you were a large part of that Coach Cotton, hold yourself accountable.
  9. The anti-regulation rallying cry by republicans works on people with zero understanding of the history of how these "evil regulations" come about. Most of the regulations dealing with pollution have come about because there's a public health problem demonstrated to be caused by whatever is being regulated. The whole "race to the bottom" platform that the republican party thinks will bring jobs won't ever work because they'd have to pay third world wages and kill people that live around the factories they want to create. People that honestly believe in that agenda are either sociopathic business owners looking for slave labor or the easily duped. It's funny how we get all this right wing parroted skepticism about actual science and where the funding comes from and "of course they want to keep their grant money." Which shows not only a fundamental lack of understanding about how scientists work, but also an unwillingness or inability to turn that "skepticism" towards their own media outlets and the corporations and people paying for that PR campaign to confuse the issue. It's funny because it's sad. The so-called skeptics are people being told what to think and what to fear and they like the term because it makes it sound like they can think for themselves. Saying there is "Global Cooling" is equivalent to the old "The world is going to end on this date" psychic crazies, except one has already been proven false, but both are lies to trick the gullible in an attempt to sell books.
  10. I like Bo and frankly his being an a-hole to the media endeared him to me, but where once stood a fiery bastard that looked like he wanted to chew heads off officials now stands a man that looks like he's been defeated trying to get the masses on his side. His teams fold in almost every big game the minute they get punched in the gut. His teams are supposedly better at staying out of trouble and pulling the grades (which is great) but when they get out on the field collectively they play like a bunch of wussies against any team that fights back. The O-Line has been god awful with Barney, which was a hire many many people had an issue with before the staff even got into town. The defensive backfield has been out to lunch since Marvin Sanders decided to party it up on recruiting trips. Our linebackers and D-Line have looked horrible against good teams since they lost Suh eating 3 linemen or David running down every play, both players that absolutely were extreme cases of men amongst boys on the field. Our QB's have had to seek outside help to get coached and are extremely underdeveloped. Hell even our option QBs had Gill to coach them back in the day. Our running-backs and receivers have been good, maybe even exceptional in the running backs department for character and heart, but without a line its an extreme case of "what might have been". You can't just expect a Burkhead or Abdullah to win every game alone when the Oline looks like a bunch of high schoolers playing against pros by the second quarter. Our receivers are at best inconsistent catching the ball, but blocking is usually good on the perimeter. Our penalties are better this year but the Line does seem to find a way to dig holes for the offense at any inopportune moment they can. It's time to open the checkbooks and send them all packing because coaches on both sides of the ball are simply outclassed by the coaches at the schools we need to beat (and most the schools we've struggled to beat but simply out-talented to a win). Bo's job was to pick those coaches and he chose wrong.
  11. The close outcome is because every team in this conference lacks a killer mentality. They think they get up big and the other team is supposed to just put backups in and call it quits. The fact that it got close at the end of the game was in large part due to MSU players deciding the game was won before the clock was at 00:00 and taking their collective foot off the huskers throat. We have the same problem. If MSU wasn't celebrating from basically the last few minutes of the third until it became basically "ohh sh#t, we let them back in this" with a minute left in the fourth the score wouldn't have been nearly as close. P.S. the Oline still sucks, would it really be that bad if we lost out on more Cottons by canning Barney? Maybe we could get some kids on it that don't get beat by air, just let ends and stuff blow by them untouched all game, and then run downfield looking lost bumping into their own linemen.
  12. I saw this thread at work the other day and thought, ohh good it's not just me, ohh god it's not just me. There needs to be a support group for this. My father went on a diet of Fox News, Ann Coulter, Rush and Beck and Right wing talk radio a few years ago. Other then giving my sibling and I something to laugh about because it's both absurd and the things out of his mouth are ridiculous, it's sad becasue growing up we always assumed he was too smart a man to fall for something like that. That we were wrong was a very diappointing thing to learn about the old man.
  13. No. What is annoying is the constant Fire Bo vs Keep Bo garbage. yeah, i always thought the worst part about message boards was the discourse. Ha. never mind. Nah, I'll pick this back up. What's annoying about it is this "discourse" is the same every time. It's like either side believes that they just haven't spouted their opinion enough to convince the other side that they're right. It's annoying and frankly the only people that are going to change anyone's mind anyways is Bo and his team. But for entertainment value I'll just add. The people unhappy with how things are now and beating people over the head with "Bo Sucks, Fire Bo" everytime someone mentions something positive about the guy or tries to look on the bright side of some statistic are the same ones, at least in mentality, that got Solich canned. The same ones that would have liked to have gotten TO canned in the 70s and late 80s when he had struggles and couldn't beat Oklahoma or win a Bowl game. The kids haven't quit on Bo and he works to address his percieved issues so some of us will give him the benefit of the doubt. A few of us may have even learned from that wonderfull Callahan experiment that had the program just about turn into a full blown 100 million dollar dumpster fire.
  14. About $1M per year for UNL. You honestly think the players are going to be happy with a couple thousand per year? Really??? The scholarship is worth a hell of a lot more than that. So is what being a "Former Husker" or whatever school they attend, will do for them the rest of their lives. What do you think they are going to do? Pay them hundreds of thousands per player? Even pay? QBs and 'One and Done' Basketball players get more? You can't just pay the revenue sports, Title IX prevents that, so its everyone. This will never become a pro-style pay system where the players get half the tv money. Televised college sports will vanish first. Playoffs, paid players? sounds pretty much like the damned NFL to me. You think the players aren't going to unionize and act just like the NFL/NBA players union? If not you're deluding yourself. You really think you're going to sell a bunch of kids on a few thousand dollars a year? Especially when ESPN's been hyping this great injustice to millions of morons who just hear "billion dollar tv deal, players get nothing." Or t he incalculable post college benefits of being a husker? Who does that work out for anyways, sure star players like Suh or Frazier can get plenty of support around Nebraska but you can't tell me that is the case for a majority of them. In short, the day I turn college football off for good is the day they start paying players. Will I stop being a husker? no, because as far as I am concerned that was an association formed at birth and for life, but I won't be following them, or adding eyes to game ads. If I were to fix it I'd I would maybe put in a stipulation that all scholarship players are not eligable for the NFL draft. Burn the NFL's talent pipeline to the ground, kill their idiotic "draft/offseason hype machine" and make them create their own farm system for 18 year olds that want money. Then I would still watch my college football, with less idiotic and entitled primadonna 18 year olds, it'd be the best of both worlds. I don't give a crap about who the players are I like the college team and the amatuer aspect of the sport. I suspect the smart ones would still end up in college.
  15. If they are employees can we fire ones that aren't working out or are loudmouths or harm the brand of the university? Can we trade for better players, I like that idea, division 1 football goes down to what like 30 teams? If so I'm fine with where things are going. If not, well the NFL needs to create a farm league for 18 year olds a knee injury away from bagging groceries because they don't need to be in enrolled in school if they want to be treated like they are in a business. Why not go all the way with this?
  16. Ignore all polls from espn (really all online polls). They are so easily manipulated it's ridiculous. You can find the source code for a fairly effective bot on these very forums. I can't stress this enough: if you are a human clicking anything on an online poll you are just wasting huge amounts of your own time. You won't make a difference when a single computer can do that a few times a second and multiple computers can do it thousands of times a minute. I won't get too technical, but the reason they register as international votes is because bots don't run espn's geo-location javascript code (they aren't web browsers) and that code simply makes votes without a known location register as international.
