  1. I agree. You want your running backs to be your best runners. Your qb should be a better passer than runner. He needs to be just a good enough runner that the threat of him breaking it for 10 - 15 yards exists, but you don't want that to be your primary use of him. As Don Brown (Michigan's DC who blitzes about 50% of the time) says, you don't want to blitz every down, but you want the threat of the blitz to exist in the QB's head every down. Same way with the qb, you want the threat that he can run to exist 100% of the time.
  2. I thought the rumor was that he said he wasn't even contacted.
  3. You don't think that exists at all high profile college football programs? Anyway, at this point, Frost would get the most patience from a majority of the fan base and the administration over any other coach hired.
  4. What was Dedrick Young doing on that play? I looks like him a Stille were playing the same gap. It was a zone read option where the qb optioned off of Stille, but Young was pretty much doing the same thing as Stille, just directly behind Stille, so they pretty much optioned two guys out of the play. Was Young responsible for the gap between the center and the left guard? That alignment makes no sense and in that first picture you can see Stille talking to Young. I think Young was not running the same call as everyone else.
  5. Look at what team is #3 in the rankings...maybe Charlie Strong should be HC at someplace like Texas.
  6. Watch that play again. That was a RPO and it was either going to be a run or a bubble screen to DPE. Stanley was never going to be an option to throw to out of that play. Stanley blew that play by not getting a hand on that DB. Lee's read was the defender over DPE and the safety over the top both of whom were cheating toward the run and inside the hash (DPE was outside the hash). He read that correctly and the DB guarding Stanley was still 5 yards from DPE when he released the ball. Stanley was very complacent on that play. I don't think his head was in it as the TE who motioned from the other side started off the line on the left side and motioned to on the line on the right side. Stanley should have backed off the line at that point as he had the TE covered up now and there were only 3 men in the backfield. That right there may have tipped the DB that either we were running it or throwing the bubble screen.

    Option

I think we should strive for something a little more than a few big name victories. That sounds a lot like Northwestern.

    Option

    Ugh. Looks like more of the same to me. Georgia Tech 2008 9-4 2009 10-3* (had to vacate some of these victories) 2010 6-7 2011 8-5 2012 7-7 2013 7-6 2014 11-3 2015 3-9 2016 9-4
  9. I didn't say it was executed to perfection. Our guys need experience to trust what they are seeing and to react without thinking. How many plays were those other ones? The whole turn of events with the interception after a long ASU drive, safety, and long ASU drive for a touchdown added up to a lot of plays for ASU.
  10. C'mon man. You know they all have run responsibilities. It is not like we had 7 guys in the box. We were pretty much playing with 5 in the box. Also, I believe that one of those guys was technically a TE (of the Missouri variety), but with our defensive personnel they were splitting him out. I would assume against nickel or dime, ASU would have him on the line more and try to run more than 25% of the time.
  11. They would each have their gap responsibility if it were a run.
  12. Every play that ASU ran was an RPO. The LBs had to watch first to see if the QB handed the ball off to the RB, if not they then had to move to cover their pass coverage responsibility. In the Newby clip above, the QB was throwing the ball almost immediately after he pulled the ball from the RB's belly. I am going to assume that a lot of teams will try to defend ASU's offense by manning up. We probably didn't want to put our young CBs in a new system in that position this early.
  13. 1. Jet Sweep 2. It is not about passing to set up the run or running to set up the pass, it is about being adept enough at both that you can put pressure on the defense by either running or passing so that they have to play you honest. And, if they are overloading one way or the other you have to be able to make them pay and pay hard. No matter what, you have to execute.
  14. Nebraska Passing against: Wisconsin 12-31 38.71% 2 int. OSU 9-33 27.27% 2 int. Iowa 14-37 37.84% 0 int. Tenn 19-42 45.24% 0 int. Hopefully, that is where we see the improvement
  15. He probably thought the 1994 offensive line sucked also: KSU - 50 attempts/168 yards - 3.36 yards per carry CO - 53 attempts/203 yards - 3.83 yards per carry OU - 50 attempts/136 yards - 2.72 yards per carry
  16. Funny that they used quotes on that, because I re-watched and he did not say that. His exact quote was: "For me, this was the best practice since we've been covering them, in my opinion." And Gerry interjected "both staffs".
  17. I hope that's what he meant, but I thought he meant best stop that they've had in Lincoln. (However long it is theyve been doing this) Ya that's what dinardo and Griffith said. Best Nebraska practice they've seen. But dean struggles sometimes I think that bodes well. I believe they started the BTN bus tour in 2012 and that year Gerry said Nebraska was as talented as anyone in the conference, or something to that effect.
  18. 2016/17 National Champion Clemson Tigers - 169.7 rush yards per game and 333.9 pass yards per game.
  19. How many seasons did Nebraska do this every game? 1995 and 1997?
  20. You did that wrong. It should have been: "Always" - Mark Helfrich
  21. That would be very short sighted of him. He doesn't have a ton of experience and most of it is under the tutelage of Banker. It seems like a great opportunity for him to learn and to develop into a more well rounded coach over all.
  22. 60% is the magic number. Running QB or not, if you dip much below 60%, you are not going to be consistent enough to have a championship season.
