  1. Quite possibly. Kelly actually didn't do anything wrong when he was @ Oregon. He got hit with the show cause penalty because a staff member was providing kickbacks and Kelly failed to monitor him/her. http://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/what-exactly-did-chip-kelly-do-warrant-ncaa-sanctions-not-much If Kelly boosted the program in 2 or 3 years and then left for greener pastures that means he did a heckuva job at Nebraska and left the program in pretty good shape. Of course there is a small chance that Kelly completely fails at Nebraska and he bolts after 2-3 years. It's highly unlikely in my opinion, but it's a possibility. Let me ask you this. Would you take a few years of Kelly if it meant that you got Frost later? Which version of Nebraska is more attractive to Frost. The current version? Or Nebraska in 3ish years after Kelly has transformed the program? The additional perk to this is Frost gets to work through any big boy coaching growing pains at Florida. It's like he got his HC coaching undergrad at UCF and he'll get his MBA at Florida and Nebraska will heap the rewards of the finished product.
  2. That would honestly be a complete and utter home run hire for Oregon State if they're able to get Miles. That being said, I do like the direction of the program under their interim HC. They're hopelessly outgunned but their still playing tremendously hard.
  3. Disclaimer is I'd be pretty thrilled with either coach. In the current scenario, I'd rather have Kelly over Frost. Now, if you told me that taking Kelly meant Nebraska could never get Frost, I'd probably lean towards Frost because I think Frost has multiple national championship upside. I like Kelly because he's already been in the uber high pressure spots. National championship games, the NFL (in Philly! no less). It's obvious his system works and works well. You don't need 5* talent all over the place for his system to work.
  4. Dang.  Roy Halladay dead at age 40.  Dude was a beast of a pitcher.  RIP sir.

That's tough news. My thoughts are with his family for sure.

  5. Dude is an absolute stud. He's essentially everything we hoped DPE would be. Once Nebraska gets some better outside WRs JD is going to be total nightmare coming out of the slot.
  6. I keep coming back to this when I talk with my friends. Why hire the student when you can hire the teacher? You have to pursue Kelly if you're Moos. Do I think Kelly is probably a little bit prickly? Yup. And if I had to cover him in the media that would suck. But guess what? I don't. I don't watch press conferences or anything like that so I frankly don't care if the guy is a raging dic* to the media. The media will turn on him regardless. I totally get that Kelly doesn't want to recruit supposedly. Guess what? NO coach likes recruiting. It's absolutely terrible. Kelly has already lived in a fishbowl when he was the coach of the Eagles so nothing Nebraska can throw at him is going to shake him (I've changed my stance on this. Philly sports fans are maniacs.) Plus he's already spent time recruiting to Eugene, OR which is nearly as difficult to get to as Nebraska. Nebraska fans are starved for a winner, if Kelly can just get Nebraska into the Big Ten title game, he'll be lauded. Now here is my conspiracy theory so break out your tin foil. Nebraska hires Kelly and he sticks around for 4-5 years before he goes back to the NFL or starts coaching 6 man football in Alaska or whatever else Chip Kelly does. Frost comes in after Kelly has installed his system and we all live happily ever after. I do think Frost goes to Florida next. That being said, that job is such a pressure cooker that no one can last more than 4-5 years. With Georgia turning into a juggernaut heck Frost might get fired in a couple years. As Saunders mentioned, UF fans are bat $$it crazy.
  7. I would be completely stunned if Moos hasn't been in contact with Frost's agent on a daily basis since he took over as AD. You don't need to fire your existing HC before you get your next one in place. Businesses do this all the time. You get your replacement in place (if you can) before pulling the trigger on firing someone.
  8. Riley is going to get every penny that he is owed. He's not resigning. There will be no 'negotiated buyout' or anything of the sort. To modify a line from Paulie in Goodfellas "Oh you don't want me to be the coach at Nebraska anymore? %^# you pay me. Having trouble coming up with the buyout money? $%^& you pay me. Need a couple extra bucks to hire you new head coach? %^$$ you pay me."
  9. So you want to essentially turn Mike Riley into a mascot? If Mike Riley is fired on a Friday he's out of town by the following week at the latest. There is literally zero chance Mike Riley stays in Nebraska one minute longer than what is necessary. Why would Nebraska have Riley stick around in the role you described? It's frankly humiliating. We're not savages for goodness sake.
  10. Nearly every coach on the board's wish list is currently employed so it's going to be pretty morose for the next month. While I completely understand you're frustration, Riley is going to be the coach for a few more games. Might be good to find some distractions like you mentioned.
  11. This. All of this. I couldn't of said it better Caliborn. All I can add is our offense looks like it's exhausting to run. Every single play seems like it requires a near herculean effort to even pick up a small gain. And then I watch Iowa of all teams and they're cruising up and down the field like a gravy train on biscuit wheels. It shouldn't be this hard. It just shouldn't.
  12. I think we need to bump the 'crazy crap Bob Diaco says' thread. This is a gem.
  13. My first instinct was to take the overs at 52, it looks like it's bumped up to 54.5 which I don't love. Neither team runs with a great deal of tempo and Nebraska struggles mightily in the red zone. I'm going to hope the line continues to rise and hit the under. 56 seems unlikely but I'll certainly take 55.5. Obviously with Nebraska most likely throwing the ball all around the yard that opens you up for turnovers and possible short fields but that's the risk you take. As for a side if you gave me Nebraska +3 I'd probably take it at the current +2 offering I'm not really interested.
  14. If given the option between only keeping one between Brown and Moore I'm taking Brown. Brown just seems to possess the 'blow the top off the defense' speed that Nebraska has lacked for the past few years.
  15. Not looking to derail the thread by any means but Travis is right a lot more often than he's wrong. He called the ESPN decline a while ago. He's definitely an acquired taste.
  16. Sure, no sweat. As of a couple days ago Frost was a 7-1 underdog to be UF's next head coach. That means for every $100 you wager you would get back $700. If you feel strongly that Frost is going to be UF's next head coach 7-1 is a pretty great return on investment. All it takes is a few people to have the same thought and bet enough money and the odds will drop which is where we're at right now. Frost is now the prohibitive favorite to be UF's next coach as evidenced by the -150 price meaning you now have to wager $150 to win $100.
  17. The other thing is it doesn't take too much money to completely warp the odds on something like this. All it takes is a few diehard UF fans with reasonably deep pockets to throw down a few thousand apiece and the odds will come tumbling.
  18. Oddsshark is a pretty popular betting website that lists the odds and Jon Campbell that guy that runs it has a pretty active twitter and posts updates frequently.
  19. I certainly get your point and respect where you're coming from.
  20. Correct. -130 on a prop bet is a pretty heavy favorite.
  21. The easiest way (although time consuming) would be to go to the university website and check out the coaching staffs each year. You'll be able to check their bios of what they did prior to Nebraska. To my knowledge with Riley's staff Brian Stewart is now at Rice, Hank Hughes appears to be at Davidson and Bruce Read appears to be working in the CFL (this was per Google searches).
  22. Lol HB has essentially likened Frost to a mixture of William Wallace, Jesus, Bill Brasky and Chuck Norris and there are folks here that think there might be a roadblock with getting his wife on board for his supposed dream job?
