  1. Not to be a wet towel, because it is Good News if the Cornhuskers look better than expected at this point. 2018 is still going to be this coaching staff’s “first rodeo” vs Big 10 competition. Your team’s record isn’t just a question of how your team looks in practice, but on the field vs the team across the line of scrimmage. I have no doubt that we are headed in the right direction, but I also have no doubt that this coaching staff is going to be learning a lot about Big 10 play in Year 1 and that will be built upon in the coming years.
  2. I just cannot get enough video of those upside down trash can drills!

Just lining up 11 trash cans would be better than Diaco's defense.

  3. Dom has been fairly quiet on Twitter, but suddenly has retweeted 8 times in the last 30 hours or so. Everybody is a little restless about this one.
  4. Martinez’ doctor said, after his surgery, that No One has seen Adrian at 100% (arm strength) and that includes his Junior year. The implication was that he had fixed a longstanding problem and now he WOULD be 100%. Assuming that is true, his true arm strength is really only being evaluated/developed now.
  5. I listen to these NU sports reporters questions on YouTube videos and think they have to be the lamest “journalists” in the world. Their questions are so shallow and so cliche. Frankly, I think two of the most important (significant) additions to the team are Noah Vedral & Tre Neal. They are potentially like having two additional assistant coaches in helping the Cornhuskers learn SF’s system on both sides af the ball, but there are no probing questions regarding their roles or what they bring to the table. thoughts?
  6. Subpar might be putting it mildly. http://www.maxpreps.com/high-schools/trinity-christian-tigers-(cedar-hill,tx)/football-fall-17/schedule.htm
  7. I went back and found this in his recruiting thread. 10 yd/carry rushing average? 22 yd/catch receiving average? Daay-um.
  8. How are Washington's hands? Is he a receiving threat out of the backfield?
  9. I'd like to propose just one modification to this: Out of State players put their Area Codes, but In-State players put their County Designation. If we need to put a zero or two in front of it, that's OK, we would know that Double-O One is from Douglas, for example. Double-O Seven would be Madison County, NE.
  10. I think what Frost & Co. is doing is going to be more valuable than mere "recruiting rankings". And winning at Nebraska is just part of the formula (although obviously the most important one to Cornhusker fans). What a lot of these kids are going to be looking for is the opportunity to develop and a chance to play at the next level. I think that Frost is going to be able to do is sit in a 3 or 4 star recruit's living room and tell them that in his system, with his facilities, strengths & nutrition program this kid is a 5-star... its just that few people realize that. Getting an offer from Nebraska is going to be highly prized, perhaps like it never has been before. And when Frost & Co. start putting players in the NFL, thanks to their system, blue-chippers are going to be crawling all over themselves to get here. For that matter, Nebraska is going to attract walk-ons who believe in themselves, and just want the opportunity that Frost's system can supply them. It's not drinking the kool-aid to see what is happening & the pieces being put in place and recognize that the future is so bright we need to wear shades: Lyrics I study nuclear science I love my classes I got a crazy teacher, he wears dark glasses Things are going great, and they're only getting better…
  11. Nice article about Javin and his official visit date, with highlight videos and more: https://us.blastingnews.com/sports/2018/08/nebraska-football-touted-defensive-back-target-javin-wright-schedules-september-visit-002681769.html Didn't see it linked earlier in this thread, but this is the article where he is quoted as saying that Nebraska is his "dream school": https://www.omaha.com/huskers/football/recruiting/the-son-of-a-blackshirt-three-star-corner-javin-wright/article_468fa557-d205-5ff2-aab5-c9089cc29604.html
  12. Ryan Held's comments today about how you'd better play Special Teams if you want to be on the bus for the 70 man travel roster got me thinking... We now have the 110 man Fall Camp Roster. So how would YOU play the 70 man travel roster? Are there any tendencies we can gain from how Frost managed the travel roster at UCF? Did he split it 50/50 offense/defense? I might want to pay a bit more attention to who is adding Special Teams reps as we go through Fall Camp and who is standing out on those units. Our first opportunity to see it for real will be at Michigan in Game 4.
  13. Good idea, but we need to make it BIT more clever than that. His nickname should be ZTR. (As in: Zero Turning Radius MoWa).
  14. Here's a look at Verduzco signaling the first TD of the season:
  15. No clue what you are on about. My 2nd post is a continuation of my first... that conditioning (or lack thereof) is going to be more evident late in games (or later in a player’s play count) not, as you asserted, of little difference spread across a 4 hour game. If it made little difference, why would the staff be preparing them (mentally & physically) for a greater number of plays? Your point about it not mattering because of substitution of players is also dependent upon the substitute being as capable a player as the one who left the game. The reality appears to be that this year there is concern about quality of depth on several of the units. Not sure why you are arguing instead of just admitting that those were not your most well-thought out posts. I certainly wouldn’t think less of you. Quite the opposite.
  16. Yeah, I guess I am assuming that your longer minute guys' conditioning is going to be more evident in the 4th quarter than the 1st quarter. I'm further assuming that a starting defensive tackle is going to be fresher on his 1st snaps than he is on his 60th or 70th snap. I'd love to see the research that refutes that assumption though (let alone the common sense). I remember seeing Miami's Warren Sapp expending energy knee-pumping it after he made a stop (or a sack, I don't recall) early in the game and I remember him (between plays) with his hands on his hips just trying to catch his breath in that final drive of the 4th quarter, when Schlesinger scored his 2nd TD of the game (1995 Orange Bowl). Conditioning isn't just a comparing the end of the game to the beginning on an individual level. It also has to do with the guy your lineman is going up against, for instance. If a lineman's performance drops 10% from the first quarter to the 4th quarter, but the guy across the line from him drops 15% you are going to win more battles at the end of the game than you did in the beginning.
  17. This is why statistics are like bikinis: What they show you is revealing but what they hide is VITAL. You are making a big assumption that the additional plays are spread over 4 hours. If your defensive conditioning is not up to par, the difference is more likely to be weighted in the 4th quarter, when what might have been a couple of "3 and outs" instead become two 10 play scoring drives.
  18. I'm not terribly up on this stuff, but the numbers you are using have to be composite scores, correct? If so, this article states that "your composite score doesn’t really matter for NCAA. Instead, NCAA adds your section scores together to get a sum score. " Also, it states that "For Division I players, NCAA uses a sliding scale that compares your core GPA and ACT scores. If you have a higher GPA, you can meet the eligibility requirements with lower scores. Conversely, if you have a lower GPA, you'll have to make up the difference with higher ACT scores." So, do we know his GPA? Do we know what target on the sliding scale he would have to meet? (If we do, it is a FERPA violation, unless it comes from the student themselves).
  19. I've been thinking about this a lot also. Obviously, it would be better to go into a game thinking/preparing for 90 plays and only having to face 76 (for example) so I think it is good to set the expectations/bar higher. But I fear that more plays means more opportunities for injury, which definitely works against your units that lack depth. This is going to be the bug-a-boo of this first season. Not that the system is bad, or that nuances need to be learned, but that we just don't have the quality depth at all places where we will need it as the season wears on. However, Quality Depth will change as more of Frost's type of talent is recruited (and walks-on) to Nebraska in coming years. It is for this reason, I believe, that Frost reminds us that it is "a process". There is no doubt in my mind that he believes that his system is one that brings more stress on an opposing defense than it does his own. For this to come true, drives must end in POINTS, and if NOT points, then sufficient time off of the clock to give your defense a breather. With those thoughts in mind, I thought that this breakdown of UCF's offensive possessions was a highly informative read, and hopefully a road map to where the Cornhusker offense is going. http://www.blackandgoldbanneret.com/ucf-offense-2017-by-possession/

  21. We have the technology for anybody in that room to be able to Facebook Live it (or YouTube Live it). I'm not sure if one requires certain PERMISSIONS for that, but we certainly have the technologies available today for anyone to basically be their own "live reporter".
  22. I’ve been surprised by a number of things: The creative places Frost & Company have found additions like Vaha Vainuku and CFU starting safety graduate transfer Neal, & Miss. St. transfer Brian Dixon. i was surprised at the “coming home” of Boyd Eppley and Ron Brown. In short, I’m pleasantly surprised by the complete attention to detail both on and off the field, in support of the development of these student athletes, and the team/program as a whole. The entire staff from Moos on down (including Tom Osborne in his advisory role) deserves an A+ on what they have achieved already. I look forward to seeing those moves resulting in a healthier program (including getting the Cornhuskers back into the pantheon of great NCAA football programs) starting with this season.
  23. While Maurice is learning the offense and bulking up, I'd use him as a punt and kick returner from Day One. http://kwese.espn.com/video/clip?id=21962387
