  1. +1 Forgive me for quoting myself, but I need to make a modification. Having just read the transcript of his players meeting, I just have to say, "Please do not let the door hit you in the a$$ on the way out, little man." SE please have the best university lawyers go over his contract and see if he violated anything in the termination section. I would like to see his golden parachute cut loose.
  2. It would be foolish for him to risk returning. Maybe he would leave just because he doesn't like some anonymous puke person on a message board spreading secondhand speculation about his party habits. Besides this looks fairly harmless to me.
  3. The point is nobody knows the entire story, nor will we likely ever. Could be that it is eligibility issues, Could be that he hasn't thrived in his current situation. Could be that the lad and his guardian don't do their homework very well on what hoops they have to jump through. Could be that Riley has looked at his stuff and said, "I can't see him ever playing in my system." Could be Riley looked at the situation and said, "If this class had 25, I might see taking the risk, but not in a small class.' Could be that everyone at UNL is a p$#ck. Could be that he has f#$%ed up and is just whining because the world doesn't revolve around him as it obviously should (boy is that one rampant).
  4. I am fine with the decision to "go in another direction." I think it was time. Hopefully, Bo will get the chance to reflect a little and do some things differently. But I don't understand why so many feel the need to kick him on the way out the door. We could have done a lot worse, in my opinion. Bo did a great job of righting the ship and stabilizing the program after BC was axed. While he clearly has areas that need shoring up, that is not in any way unique. But lets face it, there is a reason most coaches don't win 71% of their games. It ain't easy to do that. There is no guarantee that we will be better in the near future. I think we will. I am encouraged. But think on this sports fans. From 1890 to 1940 Nebraska had 3 losing seasons and 3 non-winning seasons. Then from 1941 to 1961 Nebraska had 3 winning seasons. Bo took over a program that had had only 3 winning seasons in 6 years. Thats 7, 10, 5, 8, 9, and 5 wins. One 3 loss season, one 4 loss season. Bo had 9, 10, 10 ,9, 10, 9, 9. In the seven years before Bo, 1 outright division title and 1 tie. Bo doubled that. Yes there were bad losses. Yes there was a lack of progress, but look at Iowa. Look at Oklahoma after Switzer and before Stoops. When they hired Schnellenberger everyone that that would be great, not 5-5-1. And Oklahoma'a trials came before all of the rule changes that spread out the talent far and wide. Remember that even the great Bobfather had two 6 win seasons and finished in the bottom half of the league once and tied for 4th once. So wish Bo well. Thank him for stabilizing the program after the Callahan disaster and move on. And if you can't give him some credit than STFU and move on. Stop And although I don't have the experience on this board to ask the Mods to lock, can we be done with Pelini threads. It is the Mike Riley era at Nebraska. GBR 12/17/14 Belay may last.
  5. I sincerely doubt that the level of success that Osborne experienced in his last 5 years would have continued. Now, I doubt that he would have had a seven win season, but he would have had a 9 or 10 win season and there would have been fans that would have questioned whether the game had passed him by as they did in the early 90's. Nobody should be judged by the mid-ninety's standards. Saban has come as close as anyone, but only one of his 3 NC teams was unbeaten. And before giving the "Nebraska played the Big Eight and the crappy Big 12 north, not the mighty SEC" argument that drives me crazy, consider this. Results vs. teams that finished in the AP top 25 2009 Alabama undefeated beat the teams that finished 3rd, 10th, and 17th 2011 Alabama one loss beat the teams that finished 2nd and 5th lost to the team that finished 2nd as well. 2012 Alabama one loss beat the teams that finished 5th(t), 14th, and 24th and lost to the other team that tied for 5th. 1994 Nebraska undefeated beat the teams that finished 3rd, 6th, and 19th. 1995 Nebraska undefeated beat the teams that finished 2nd, 5th, 7th, and 9th. 1997 Nebraska undefeated beat the teams that finished 7th, 8th, 18th, 20th, and 23rd (Michigan beat 9th, 12th, 16th)
  6. If they keep this whole recruiting class intact....I will crap myself. Huge kudos if that happens. So many positives you can take away from that. Better prepare the cleanup, unless you know something new about Jurkovic who has already bolted. Jurkovic was basically gone already. He was visiting Ohio State the day before Pelini was fired. Same with Bussey. He was already wavering/half-way decommitted before Pelini left. Remember how much Bussey's "always loved Tennessee" or whatever his dad said. I don't put either of those on Mike Riley's inability to hold this recruiting class together. Just as I wouldn't put Hart's and Love's transfers on Riley. Those were already in the works. Jeez, I can't read worth a crap. Jurkovic bolted the day they fired Bo and not after Riley was hired, so I wouldn't put that on the new staff either. In fact, if they flipped him back i would be major league impressed. It sounds like Cavanaugh stopped to see him.

  8. Could be many things. KY is closer to home. Doesn't think he can compete with the others. Doesn't get along with the other guys. Had already decided to go before Bo got the axe In terms of linebacker play, I don't think that the LB's have been developed very well since Ekeler left. Last year, they get a pass for youth and inexperience, but not this year. I think that lack of development of O line, LB's and QB's is the main reasons that Bo is gone D line depth seems to have been addressed. If Love has decided that his bread is better buttered in KY, he would be foolish to stay here to see what MR is like. He needs to not miss spring ball in his destination school. Good luck to him. Hope he finds what he is looking for.
  9. My cousin's friend's aunt's hairdresser's nephew's barber's sister-in-law's father knows a former player that has it on good authority that "Bo is gone. Who cares why? Move on. All this speculation is like " All you do is work up a lather without accomplishing anything.
  10. What I find weird, is that apparently there's a significant number of people who think that coach Riley 1. Would create an entirely new staff of people he had never worked with, 2. Would create said new staf without having a chance to meet with any of them to see if he thinks that they can work together. 2. Contact recruits without satisfying whatever hoops the University has to jump through to make sure that such contact doesn't violate any NCAA rules or University policies. I also find it weird that Wisconson would lose their coach to Oregon State. Would you rather be the school that won't retain a generally successful coach or one that apparently can't?
  11. Lol...very true. I'm glad for Bo, but can't wait to hear what his supporters here think about him not getting another major D1 coaching position. I am a Bo supporter and also believed we needed a change. I think this is a good step for him. Allows him to return to his home, coach a program that has a good tradition and will allow him to get away from the spotlight. I'm happy that he landed on his feet. Always liked him, just didn't work out over here, hopefully it'll work out better for him at YSU. Maybe in the offseason, he can find a good D1 football brain in Ohio to pick. This year there were at least two FCS playoff teams with Husker connections. Maybe soon there will be three. Coastal Carolina, Liberty University and Youngstown State.
  12. This just in. Riley has been here for 5 days and still hasn't won any championships. Husker fans patience wearing thin. AND he hasn't yet hired any WOW assistants without having a chance to assess his needs, or who might fit, or might be willing, or having time to interview anyone. How long will he prolong the agony. Said one Husker fan, "If he was really the kind of coach we need, he would have put together a staff before he was offered the job, just in case."
  13. My. Where to start? 1. Seriously, you saw no improvement in TM. I thought he got much better as time went on. Granted, he got outside coaching, but that is not that unusual at QB. Better ball security would have been nice, but he appeared to be moving in that direction. It will be nice to have the best QB coach not be the grad assistant, though. 2. Where is TA going to go. He has used his redshirt year, so he either goes someplace and hopes to play one year or he slides down a division. 3. I, too would like to see what TA does with some QB coaching. 4. In terms of his completion percentage, I refer you to the lifetime stats of THE Tommie. Yes, the throws that he was asked to make were lower percentage, but watch the 1995 KS game. Damn. 5. I'm sure that Coach Riley gave up his essentially lifetime contract to get a shot at coaching a particular redshirt sophomore. (please tell me that was a joke)
  14. Perhaps, deep down, he has decided that he doesn't really want to be an athletic director, so he had the brilliant idea of hiring someone that he knew would not succeed so that he will get fired and avoid the embarrassment of having to resign for personal reasons.
  15. I would like to see the members of our defensive line walk out to the middle of the field and bend a 1 inch steel rod into a badger trap using only their bare hands.
  16. Well, here's a shot at a 1st post. To put my cards on the table, I started the season as a BOliever, believing that coach Bo had been unfortunate enough to have a good defense OR a good offense, but not both in the same year. I had expected this year to be somewhat different as it looked like the pieces were in place to have both a decent defense and a decent offense at the same time. Unfortunately, after the Wisconsin game I became less enamored of the Bo Pelini staff. After that game, I suspected we would end up losing out, which we should have if Iowa had been just a little bit smarter about not punting directly to our hot shot punt returner. Tom Osborne's words at the firing of coach Bill Callahan started echoing in my brain. So, although I did not favor firing Bo, I understood it and do not oppose it. I also said WTF when I heard through the new coach would be. Will I have seen a significant amount of angst on the part of some fans along the lines of, "I thought we were going to use vast resources and get 'experts'on the coaching staff (to paraphrase ADSE and HCMR) but so far all we've got are some Oregon State coaches and an Oregon State commit flip. This an upgrade?" I would simply offer this. I think it is unreasonable to expect the new coach to put together a staff over a weekend by offering positions to people he probably doesn't know that well. What I would expect him to do is bring a few of his old staff along, ones that he is comfortable with either from a coaching standpoint or recruiting standpoint or both. I would expect him to make offers to a few select players that he has already recruited that he feels may fit at the new place and then quickly evaluate the current commits to see how they fit with what he wants to do. I would expect him then to spend the major part of the week recruiting until the dead period starts again prior to the bowls. At that point, I would expect him to reach out to other coaches that he would like to bring on board that have not been on his previous staff. I think it would be foolish for him to hire an assistant without having the opportunity to take a look at their body of work and interview them to see how they "fit." Hiring several assistants without adequately vetting them 1st seems like a recipe for disaster to me. My $0.02. No. I don't have any coaching experience above youth level softball and baseball, but I have been involved in hiring decisions and I know that it is just as important that the staff works well together as it is that they have skills. If either one of those ingredients is missing, the product tends to suck.
