  1. This has potential to get really ugly. Offense and ST are killing us. If that continues it won't matter how good the D may do.
  2. Mav- I get that they probably understand that it is a very small portion of the fanbase being aholes. But they need to learn to ignore the vocal detractors, teach the players to ignore it, and way more than carefully choose their words when they are questioned about it. Only their actions can diffuse it and turn it into a non-issue. You posted a few examples of the positive things Bo has said about the fans, but it only takes one instance like what Beck said to undo all that goodwill. It may not be fair and it may not be how they feel about the fans in general, but as long as they let that perception exist, it will.
  3. Retailers can pack black Friday right square in their ass. I made the very stupid mistake of thinking the night before might be ok. Oh how wrong I was.

  4. what's sad is that your comparing the basketball program to the football program, not even close to being the same monster. Hmmm, I thought he was comparing the head coaches abilities to make friends and influence people. But, I guess you are still right, there really is no comparing Pelini and Miles. Yin and yang. The relationship would not be toxic and confrontational if Bo had a different outlook on it. I'm sure you sit around and talk about Miles influences all the time and yes I do understand you don't care for Pelini. I understand the difference between the football program and the basketball program. They aren't even in the same realm when it comes to importance for NU. But I also got his point about how the coaches deal with the media and how they appear to view the fans. It's not that I don't care for Bo, although I doubt I can convince you otherwise, I just feel when it comes to this issue, Bo has set the tone and could diffuse the tension if he could change his attitude. He is free to feel however he wants but, it sure would be more helpful for the program if he chose to embrace the fans, the majority of which are reasonable, and was more of a helpful role model for his coaches and players. He has created the perception of this toxic relationship and only he can do away with it. There will always be a few outspoken detractors- why do he and some of the players choose to listen to them while ignoring and maligning the vast majority of faithful fans? I've got legitimate concerns about some coaching issues, coordinators, play calling, strength and conditioning, etc. Funny how so many feel that is just "don't care for Bo". Personally, I would prefer he fixed some of these issues and coached here a long time. I just no longer think that will happen.

  6. For many of our younger fans (me included) who weren't around for the Oklahoma games, Colorado/Missouri were the only rivals we knew. So you guys that got to experience the OU games saying that Colorado was forced upon you after Oklahoma bailed and it was never a true rivalry game, it may feel like that to you, but not everyone. I can accept that and even understand it. I was lucky enough to be around during the height of the NU-OU games of the 70's, 80's, and 90's. I just have always viewed them as our traditional rival. And having lived in Colorado for the past 28 years, I developed a deep hatred and lack of respect for the Buffs. It was a rivalry type thing for sure but I will never give them the satisfaction of acknowledging it.
  7. Geographically Iowa could fit the bill as a rival, and due to their close proximity there seems to be a fair amount of animosity between the fanbases. But location and hatred alone do not a rivalry make. I believe for a true rivalry there needs to be at least some mutual respect and some give and take (win some lose some, including some upsets or heartbreakers). Iowa, in recent history, has not taken anything from us and we have little reason to respect them on the field of play. So, in many ways, they are just another one-sided rival in the mold of Colorado. Sure we hated them and loved beating them, the worse the better, but for all but a few year stretch they just weren't good enough to earn the rival status from us. Sorry Iowa, you are CU light.
  8. Threw it out!!? That's sacrilege! . Well you have to consider that we typically make four metric tons of the stuff. It's awesome but even I can't down it all in a years time.
  9. I was with ya, right up until including the deviled eggs in the melee. But I'm not above trying that. My fav is to mix together stuffing, mashed taters, turkey, corn, and cover it all with gravy. I don't usually do that at the first Tday meal, but that will pretty much be my diet for the following week. I usually keep the green bean casserole and jellied cranberry sauce separate.
  10. Absolutely love that canned Oceanspray cranberry sauce, and I have been known to be disgusting. Favorite side has got to be homemade stuffing. In ours we use all the giblets, liver, heart, neck, and butt/tail from the turkey plus we add in even more chicken gizards, make a soup with all of that and some celery/veggies/stuff (can't give away the secret family recipe) and then pour it over about 6 loaves of torn up bread. Stuff the bird, fill a crock pot and just wait to get fat and happy. THAT'S the shiznit fellas. Can I come to your house for leftovers? Yes you can. We always have tons of leftovers, especially the stuffing. No sh#t, we just threw out a gallon ziplock bag of stuffing from last year.
  11. The issue here is that the coaches should know better than to listen to the vocal minority and they are the ones who should be helping the players figure out they have to tune it out, but that doesn't seem to be happening. With comments like this from Beck and what I assume is the constant us against the world (including our f'ing fans) message from Bo, it's little wonder that the players struggle dealing with it. Hate to tell ya but it happens in every fanbase and I have to believe, if anything, it is better at Nebraska than many places. Maybe these coaches should ignore the bullsh#t and focus on getting this team to play a complete game. Want reduced chatter? Then take away some of the reasons for it. Anybody who tries to tell you that the Husker/Lincoln environment for this type of thing is bad or worse than other places is full of sh#t. These coaches need to grow up and start setting an example that will help the team deal with it better.

  13. I love Family guy but it is a friggin cartoon. If the damn dog can talk, I think they can find a viable way to bring him back. Stewie rebuilds his time machine? Yeah, I know, the Muhammad supplier guy of the part he needs is gone but I think they can figure it out anyway. Or, earlier in that same episode, Stewie had mentioned travelling into the future. Maybe he could have left what he needed there and it might only be an episode or two. No way the stick with the Italian dog Vinny. He was way too boring. Brian had the best one line zingers on the show....well him and Stewie. My son was about beside himself. He couldn't believe they killed off Brian. He'll be back.
  14. Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and, if you're traveling, safe travels. GBR!

  15. That is one of the most troubling posts Ive read in a while. I wish we could fix this. Too bad banning social media isnt a viable option, why ounish the players when its pricks with an attitude and a twitter account that are the problem. Yeah, that does appear troubling but I wonder who these players and their families are specifically. Seems like the type of thing a person could say/post based on their own perception and not necessarily on actual events. I haven't been in the stadium at a game in quite a few years but I can't hardly believe things have regressed that far. And, I also am out of state and my main contact with all things football related is through HB. Even I realize that the most cynical posters here may be in the minority and probably don't spew some of the crap we see here directly to other people, players, or their family. It's big time college football fellas, if some of the players or coaches can't handle a bit of legitimate criticism and ignore the overblown stuff, then they might just have a problem that doesn't really have anything to do with the fanbase in general.

  17. I may vacillate back and forth on Bo, but Perlman is "the man" and I've got this disease called stickittothemanitis. Harvey needs to stick to administrating and pencil pushing and leave football stuff to people who may have actually participated in a sport at least once in their lives. Uh no, I didn't listen to the link. Didn't feel it was necessary to stickittotheman.
  18. You should make that your signature; "i shook cam merediths hand once", that is sure to rocket you to the top of the heap around here. If you happen to come from a "naturally strong family", you may want to mention that often as well. Good luck.
  19. Well, when you put it THAT way..........with all those reasons......... Sorry, I'm getting all excited and emotional and just can't continue. Excellent work op.
  20. Thanks krill. I don't want a junk browser so I'll research that a bit more. Plus I better look a little closer at the apps available. Now I'm leaning back towards an iPad. I guess I could use my wifes Kindle for books...
  21. I agree, that paper white display is awesome for reading. But I'm guessing any Kindle will be ok for reading and my top use will likely be what I'm doing right now- surfing and posting on HB.
  22. Love me a good cold snow game. Maybe not so much if I'm in attendance but definitely love watching them on TV. Domes and warm weather climates are for sissies..
