  1. OK, rewatched the game. It is not as bad as it seemed. the two late turnovers really affected the outcome, both yardage and points.

Dude- my not as bad comment was directed at our defensive performance. Without the two turnovers, yds given up likely only 420+/-.

IMO, Running the option 10-15 times a game is one thing, but throwing it in here and there is not this offenses strength. TM is a straight line runner, not an option QB.

This o-line couldn't block well enough for the option offense. After re-watching the game, it was decent on passes, but not so great for the run. A little over-rated IMO

  2. EZE- I also saw some good things. I really liked what I saw from our young guys and SJB had a helluva game. I also agree that we became unfocused and that led to the score being too close for comfort. But there were numerous times where we did not blitz and still had no LBs in sight. I felt like things went better when we did blitz. Watch again and tell me how many times we got gashed while blitzing. The problem I saw was our LBs following motion, Smith having all day, and then either beating us with his arm or feet or both. It was Wyoming for christsake.
  3. I have rewatched the first quarter. Will rewatch the rest as I get time today or tomorrow. I like to rewatch in bits and pieces to take the emotion out of it. After live viewing, I saw huge gapping spaces in the middle of the field, the kind we had against Wiscy in the CCG last year, and we still were not getting to the qb in a timely fashion. Considering they gained 600 yards and scored 34 points and it was Wyoming, something like the 70th ranked offense last year, I feel pretty comfortable stating it has plenty to do with game plan, scheme, and lack of adjustment. It was not an acceptable performance. Now please answer my questions. Are you satisfied with the result and performance? What is your solution?
  4. So you recommend blitzing MORE than we did, which would open up MORE lanes for them to gain MORE yardage on swing passes and slants just by virtue of the fact that we have one less guy back in coverage? You do realize that the spread team we saw last night is predicated on a lot of quick hitting routes?? Please share your solution. I don't buy the excuse that last nights result was due to youth, inexperience, and the offensive juggernaut that is Wyoming. I am absolutely convinced that we will see a replay of last year, complete with two or three more embarrassing defensive displays, unless we game plan better and make better in game adjustments. Are you content with this performance and result ?
  5. I disagree. I was impressed by the improvement in speed and athleticism I saw on defense last night. I didn't see much of Bo's lamentation that guys didn't make plays. Sure there were some missed tackles and likely some blown assignments that I didn't pick up on but, I got the distinct impression that these guys can play, mentally and physically. What I did see were opportunities that these guys didn't take advantage of because it was obvious they had been coached to contain some predetermined area of the field. I agree that they will get better but this defense will not be fine until it shows a willingness to adjust.
  6. In the case of last nights game, yes I am. Wyoming had the type of offense and quarterback ability that has given Bo's defense fits the last two seasons. So yes, I am suggesting that they do something different when they have to face that type of a challenge. Personally I think turning the D line loose and bringing more blitzs would've made a world of difference. Surely it couldn't have been any worse. 600+ yards and 34 points to Wyoming? And yes, they were good and played one hell of a game but I'm not satisfied only beating teams that roll over and play dead.
  7. This, so much this. The elephant in the room. The fact that we we've won nine the past two seasons is much more telling of who we've been playing than what we do. It is exactly why good, capable teams embarrass us on nationally televised games. It's also why we eek out wins and have all these come from behind victories over lesser competition.
  8. If you don't understand the tradition of the blackshirts, fine, but please don't comment on something you have no idea what it means. Some of you act like handing out the shirts means we will have a top tier defense. That isn't how it works. If you're complaining about Bo handing them out before the first game to a unit that gave up 600+ yards, you don't f'ing get it. Blackshirts are for our defensive starters, the best we have to put on the field. It has absolutely nothing to do with performing at an elite level commensurate with our great defenses of the past. If you think we had smothering dominate defense every season in the 70's and 80's, you don't know sh#t. Blame the root problem, not the background tradition that hasn't been viewed or managed properly during Bo's tenure. The problem is a scheme and game plan that attempts to contain and limit rather than being aggressive and dominating. It's so f'ing simple yet way too many here struggle with it. Sharpen up people.
  9. Some people need to realize..............oh f#*k it, nevermind.
  10. That is the conundrum, this defense does work (at least gets wins) against teams with immobile quarterbacks. But it also has failed spectacularly against good mobile quarterbacks and with teams that actually have the ability to game plan against it. Defense is easy with LSU talent or with a guy named Suh on your team. However, it requires some thought and planning when that is not the case. We don't seem to be showing any willingness to adjust or get more aggressive with teams who have figured out how to exploit our scheme. Why didn't we blitz? How can we expect to maintain coverage for ten freakin seconds every down? I think the D linemen we have could've gotten after Smith, especially with some blitz help, but their assignment was obviously to try to keep him in the pocket and wait to see if our DB's could play out of their minds. 600+ yards three times now. It will happen more if something doesn't change.
  11. I can't stress this enough; this result was NOT the result of having young or inexperienced players on defense. The coaches having them playing a scheme that virtually prevents three and outs. It's a bend until you break scheme and it sucks. Even in this debacle I could see we were more athletic than any time in the past two years. I'm not calling for coaches heads because we aren't that bad. Problem is we also aren't very good. Bo and Paps have to change this passive BS defense. I believe we'll get better but we won't get good enough without significant changes in how we approach defense and with how we make in game adjustments. I have agreed with Bo in the past when he would say guys just didn't make plays. His similar comments tonight miss the mark and were totally classless. It was the coaches that were in position but failed to allow them to make the play. Get some f'ing pressure on the quarterback. Do these jokers know what a blitz is? The poor D linemen looked like they wanted to go after Smith but would back peddle to the LOS, apparently in some ill conceived effort to "contain" their patch of grass. This is not a youth/experience issue. It is structural.
  12. UCLA is beating Nevada 17-13 at halftime...if Nevada can hang, we should be able to as well. Agree, we might be able to hang with Nevada.
  13. No offense and I mean this with all due respect but, we're not KSU and Wyoming isn't NDSU.. I literally would be more concerned if we were facing NDSU today. They've got it going on up there. True. But if Wyoming plays with NDSU's moxie and no-quit attitude, it couldn't hurt. I'm here to eat my crow. Wyoming played and coached one hell of a game. Brett Smith was much better than I anticipated. Your guys did play with a no quit attitude. As far as the analogy, NU was KSU tonight. Congratulations and good luck with the rest of your season. You guys should win plenty of games.
  14. Aren't items 2-12 just more evidence of what you complained about in number 1? I guess everyone is an armchair quarterback to some degree.
  15. BTW, I didn't see much in the way of "youthful" mistakes. What I saw was a defensive scheme get exploited by a good (but nonetheless Wyoming) quarterback. This reault was not because of youth.
  16. I've been saying variations of the same for several seasons now but I'm sure that the moment where Bo proves me wrong is right around the corner. Cool story, man. Go right ahead and be satisfied with a tick better than mediocre. Nobody's stopping you. Since you apparently missed the game, we gave up 600+ yards to Wyoming. Sure, bring on UCLA, Michigan, and tOSU.
  17. We have the Kenny Bell rule. Guess we'll have the RG44 rule now Yes, football is dying (being killed) right before our eyes. A couple more years of this bullsh#t and you won't be able to differentiate between football and synchronized swimming. If that tackle is a penalty, better give em batons and spats now. Absofuckinglutely ridiculus. IT'S A CONTACT SPORT........at least it used to be.
  18. Learned; 1- Our defensive scheme and play calling has to change if we ever want to win more than 9 and prevent giving up embarrassing amounts of yards and points. 2- I could see flashes of improved athleticism....too bad Paps and Pelini keep em tied to the porch instead of letting them run with the big dogs. 3- Yes I realize Brett Smith is good and Wyoming is likely better than we expected. 4- The offensive game planning and play calling is also sub par. We made a good adjustment at halftime but returned to helter skelter throw sh#t at the wall play calling when we should have been imposing our will. 5- This offense has the potential to score extremely quickly and to be very special. See number 4 for why it may fall short. 6- We are well stocked at running back position. Newby is the real deal and will do special things for us. 7- Thought the O line was going to take over the game......they didn't. Can't figure it out. 8- We still looked slow on the D line but not as slow as last few years. I'm convinced it's scheme and not personnel.
  19. Nothing like 34 oz. of strong black Wyoming coffee to cure a couple months of Kool-Aid induced high. Congrats to the Cowboys for having a better plan and giving it their all.

  20. Pelini and Paps are in Brett Smiths coaches graveyard.
  21. Somebody forgot to tell Wyoming to roll over so we could dominate them. Huskers need to pick it up on both sides of the ball.

  22. No offense and I mean this with all due respect but, we're not KSU and Wyoming isn't NDSU.. I literally would be more concerned if we were facing NDSU today. They've got it going on up there.
  23. The Nebraska defense knows Brett Smith. By the time the game is over, they will have "known" him in the biblical sense.
  24. I covered the rest for ya chaddy. Good job folks!
