  1. You're contradicting yourself. Either these monuments are a violation of the first amendment (I do not believe they are) and should not be allowed from any group or religion or, they are not a violation and do not constitute a "religion endorsement" and therefore should be allowed from any group/religion. Near as I can tell, and as evidenced by this news, any group/religion can place their "shrine" in a public space. The simple fact that atheists or other religions have not done this before or more widespread has no bearing on the fact that the Ten Commandments in a public area does not equate to endorsement of a religion by our government. You might want to read those bits in the founding documents a little closer. The problem is when government limits the citizens rights to practice their religion (any religion) they see fit. You would have to show me specific wording that indicates simply being exposed to another's religion in a public space constitutes any type of violation. Don't confuse being exposed to a majority view as somehow infringing on your rights. OK, so it could represent one of two religions. And that's not a violation of the first amendment how? The much better and more pertinent question is; How is it a violation of the first amendment? It doesn't matter if the 10 Commandments are representative of 1, 2, or 100 religions. The only time it would be a problem is if some entity decreed that Religion #A can have access to public space but Religion #B cannot. The mere fact that other religions do not place their items in public has no bearing on it. Seems you are a little rankled to be subjected to Christian things in a predominately Christian country so you want to call it some sort of violation. The atheists put their bench/monument in a public space and I am happy for them. They, and any other group/religion can do this all they want and it won't bother me a bit. Why does it bother you when it happens to be the Ten Commandments?
  2. So, let me get this straight, atheists put a bench (monument) right next to a granite slab Ten Commandments (monument).???? So, hypothetically they put this useful bench in a location that Christians could use while taking a break from visiting the Christian monument. I guess I don't know what to say..........thanks. What's next? The atheists going to start selling Bibles to raise more money for benches?
  3. ^^^That. I'm with you. Is it really constructive for 90% of these threads to devolve into the W-L record and then start speculating on Bo's status? Swear to God I'll rabbit punch the next person that suggests we fire a coach after a 9 or 10 win season. I hate the blowout losses as much or worse than the next guy but we go through the Solich-Callahan debacle again over my dead body. Edit- I take no responsibility for changing my mind after the next blowout loss.
  4. You're right, but unfortunately that's the only basis for the hope this D is going to be better. It's entire foundation is based on "they can't be as bad as last year". Otherwise, there isn't much historically that would make someone think this will be a better team. How often do you graduate almost an entire squad and improve? Rarely. Not saying it won't happen, but I think Husker fans are going on blind faith and a lot of hope right now. My concern is that if this D is 1 mental mistake away from giving up 6 on any given play (which was obvious and confirmed last year and in years past numerous times)...who do you think will be making more mental mistakes, a team primarily comprised of seniors...or a team of freshman/sophomores. This might work at other places, but if Bo sticks to his system...it's not looking good for us. We've been talking for the last 3 years about how kids have finally been in the system a while and understand the D, and that's why we are going to be better. Why would anyone think that no longer applies....because it doesn't fit our current situation? Of course you are right. I am simply stretching to stay positive. We are definitely thin on experience and "knowing the system". However, all indications would suggest that our recruiting in these areas has increased the talent level and potential rather significantly. Bo might just have to break down and make do with what he has rather than waiting 5 years for the players to finally fit into his mold. I love Bo but one of my biggest exasperations with him has been a system that totally breaks down with one missed tackle or one mental mistake. I'm gonna be all goofy optimistic again and hope that maybe Bo will tweak the framework so they can be successful with less experienced guys. Youth aside, I've got to believe we'll be improved at speed, talent, & toughness. Those things can sure help hide some mental/experience issues.
  5. I understand what you are saying and somewhat agree. But, to put a positive spin on it, we don't need an excessive amount of talent or such to improve over what we had last year. Maybe I'm a bit too hard on our D these last couple of years and maybe I'm being a little too optimistic but, is there anyway possible we don't improve at LB & DL? I shudder to think that it won't be much better regardless these two departures.
  6. Could someone list their names from left to right? The only guy I recognize is TM.
  7. How cool would it be to have a pipe organ in your home. I would learn how to play that song from Rollerball and then we would partay. Yeah, we'd probably end up burning down trees in the neighborhood.
  8. For some reason whenever I see Brown & Suttles, I think of Flatt & Scruggs. Yeah I'm old and possibly a bit weird.
  9. I'm confused as to why anyone would throw a party label in front of a search for "voter fraud." Is it only bad when it's done by the party that you aren't affiliated with? Well, I did it only because you had mentioned "democrat voter fraud" prior. To answer your question, I suppose someone might do that when attempting to find examples of it from one specific side of the aisle. That doesn't necessarily mean they only find the behavior from one side unacceptable. I think it's a bit natural when people start attacking the issue like it's onesided to look for equal opportunity on the other side.
  10. This probably doesn't belong here since I doubt it is on Netflix yet but the movie Rapture-Palooza was very funny. Warning- if you're a believer and are easily offended when religion is poked fun at, you might not want to watch. I believe it's an indie that is currently in theatres. We got it OnDemand on cable. I thought it was worth the $7 and was laughing through most of it. It pushed it right to the limit for me with the sacrelig stuff but I'm not easily offended.
  11. Sorry, posting on droid and hit post again because it didn't seem to go first time.
  12. Well I'll say it, losing two potential contributors like this is not a good thing but I am excited that some of the new blood will have a better chance to see the field. Our LB and DL units have been less than stellar the past two seasons. Time for some of these exciting recent recruits to accept the challenge and be rewarded with real playing time. I don't think we can be in any worse shape now, even after losing these two, than what we were with the guys who got most of the play time last year. Losing Compton will hurt some but if these two were our best and brightest hopes, it wasn't going to be pretty anyways.
  13. As an experiment, I googled "republican voter fraud". Got about a page and a half of hits dominated by msnbc and huffington post links. No, I'm not surprised.
  14. This is pretty old school but probably going to Lynyrd Skynyrd this Saturday night at the Greeley Stampede.
  15. I have no idea. I would sure hope not. If there's one thing I think Bo Pelini is really good at, that's enforcing the rules he lays out for his players. Some posters here seem to think that he should just let things like failed drug tests slide, though. That's not cool in my book. Who in the holy hell said that? What players have failed a drug test? The problem here is that you're mixing your opinion of how real things should be handled with speculation and innuendo. I, for one, stated that I didn't think a first occurance of marijuana use should be a situation that gets a kid kicked off the team. That is not the same thing as a failed drug test. That is not the same thing as a speculated 4th infraction. Who said Bo should let failed drug tests slide? Who has failed a drug test? Are you even beginning to see what the problem is here?
  16. I don't have any problem with your views on drug use or how you feel our program would be perceived nationally if rampant drug use was an issue. What I have a problem with is the carefree manner in which you treat and state some of these things went down. If you're going to state the team has such and such a policy, do it from a point of knowing what you're talking about and not being speculative. If you're going to state that specific players have had multiple occurrences of these types of infractions, once again, do it from fact rather than speculation. There were simply too many claims made by you that were not sufficiently prefaced as hypothetical situations. And, since you did in a few choice locations admit that you had no idea what actually went down in this specific case and that you have no idea what Bo or the teams rules are specifically, I felt you were kind of off base reacting as indignantly as you did. If you're gonna go off on some players for having used drugs or broken team rules 3 or 4 times, might be best to wait until incident numero uno is actually verified.
  17. What I find more interesting than how or which media are covering these things is how actual republicans or democrats react to them. This; From the AP: Strategic Allied Consulting was hired by Republicans to do voter registration drives in Florida and other states. But last fall, the state party fired the company and took the additional step of filing an election fraud complaint against the company with state officials. It would appear the Florida Republican Party discovered wrong doing by SAC and then fired and reported them. Good for them. And then this from BRB's linked Acorn article; "In November 2009, Democratic operative Anthony DeFiglio told New York State police investigators that faking absentee ballots was a commonplace and accepted practice in political circles, all intended to swing an election." "DeFiglio claimed that “the reason that this came to light in this election, was the sheer number of absentee ballots that went out to the Working Families Party. … To political insiders in the county, what appears as a huge conspiracy to non-political persons is really a normal political tactic.” Seems to be a much different type of response to the same problem. I won't begin to claim either side holds the higher ground but, we can sit here and cherry pick left/right stories all day long without making any headway.
  18. Carl- No argument, Fox News has the vast share of cable news viewership. But, what do those pie charts look like if you include ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS. Maybe I'm too old school and out of touch but it seems to me the major networks still have quite a bit of influence with news distribution. I might be wrong IDK cuz I watch very little news anymore from any source. I get more of my news from HB posts than anywhere.
  19. Or Bob McDonnell's (or Michelle Bachmann's) current . . . problems. Strangely silent. I'm not sure how long the media victimhood strategy will work in the echo chamber. Probably for quite awhile yet . . . I had to google Bob McDonnell to even have a clue. I assume you are talking about the Governors alleged unreported gifts of a Rolex and thousands of dollars from a donor. I will speculate that Fox News isn't covering this story. Not surprised. And Michelle Bachmann's problems? Not sure where this is headed but I will assume her ridiculus statements on the USC and DOMA. this one, I would expect Fox to report on but more than likely most of their talking heads will side with her position. Again, not surprised. That's the way it goes anymore with our media. I don't believe I've ever claimed it was a one way street. Journalism is dead in this country. Now it is simply an entertainment business catering to their target audience.
  20. Are you more or less surprised about the coverage of this story from known left-leaning news sources than you were about the relative lack of coverage of the Strategic Allied Consulting scandal from right-leaning news sources? I guess I would be equally not surprised. To be honest, I'm not that informed on either issue or aware of who has covered what. But, our media is basically a joke, be it the more common left leaning media that selectively chooses what is not news worthy or the less common but possibly even more biased right wing media that tend to make mountains out of molehills with anything that hints of democrat malfeasance. I'm not quite sure what, if anything, would surprise me anymore.
  21. I agree that any vote fraud is very concerning but........ surprised that the national media isn't making more of this? nah. This was a democrat that won election in Florida after all. Nothing to see here, keep moving. Heck, just the fact that your linked article came from Fox News will cue most everybody that this must be a non-issue.
