  1. Luck has nothing to do with it? You choose your own luck? I disagree to some extent. Luck plays a part of every game, the impact it plays vary from game to game. Texas in the conference championship? Bad luck. Different set of refs may have made a different call. We could have won the conference title. Does bad luck excuse our record this year? No, it doesn't, by any means. We haven't had great coaching thus far, and I'm just as disappointed as everyone else is. That doesn't mean bad luck doesn't happen in sports, because it does.
  2. I'll trust the coaches, if they run the ball, and he's ready I'm all for it, if we are pass-happy, don't break the redshirt.
  3. Bo should have been fired sooner. Is MR the right hire? Not sure. I'll support him as long as he is here, though. Much easier to support him than it was Bo and his antics.
  4. Agreed. Jano didn't have too many carries, just not always the right call for his ability. We passed way too often for the weather conditions. I don't think Jano should be getting a ton of carries, but if I remember right, most were on the last drive. If we run it with Oz more often, we move the ball more effectively. It isn't that Jano is a bad back, because he has impressed me. He runs hard and has decent success going north and south.
  5. Good article. While disappointed, as every fan is, support is needed. I hope HCMR can turn this program around, but fixing the recruiting gaps Bo left won't happen in one year. I agree with the article that it is far too soon to be calling for his job. We had more talent last year, plus we are adding a different system and scheme. Do I think the coaches coached poorly against Illinois? Yes, I do. Passed way too much, but, we shouldnt be kicking "our" team when they are down. With some of the poster's negativity on this site, it doesn't seem like you fully support the team.
  6. no, Illinois did a good job of coaching their side of the ball otherwise they wouldnt have had a 50 yd completion on the play this thread is about. He was saying Nebraska was poorly coached on both sides of the ball...
  7. Cutcliffe (from Duke) would be a great hire IMO. He's done a great job at Duke in his tenure, and has made them relevant again. He took his team to the ropes with Northwestern. Think he would have been a great hire, though he might not want to leave with the program he is building there.
  8. Some luck, not all luck. IMO, he would still be here without his on field and off field antics that made the players dislike fans. Think Bo has potential, and could have done great things here if he was willing to change a few coordinators and recruit better. Oh, and he wasn't a fan of adjustments most games. I like MR as a person, and believe he can do well here, give time. It is possible I am wrong, but as of now, I'll support him and the Huskers.
  9. Agree that it is scheme. Last year we gave up a ton against the run, but we weren't rated nearly as low against the run. Teams didn't pass as much, since the run was effective. This year, teams are trying to run more, but we stop them more frequently. Obviously, this year is still up in the air on run defense, since we will be attacked more with the run on the remainder of our schedule.
  10. Hopefully this week. Wisconsin is down compared to previous years. I support the team and believe we can still have success. Besides the Illinois game, I think we have the same record under Bo. He would have won last week. Very poor play calling. If we can establish a run game with Oz and Jano, we can have success with more adjustments on defense. In probability, we struggle every game for the rest of this year. I want this staff to work, and bring success in future years. It takes time to change the culture of a program, and we are weak in certain areas right now due to recruiting, and DPE being out. This weeks game offers an opportunity to see where this season is heading. Hopefully coaches make the necessary adjustments and the players come out with a chip on their shoulder.
  11. Makes sense OK....I guess I need educated. Isn't the pistol formation the same as the shotgun but the RB is lined up behind the QB instead of beside the QB? If so, why does this make any difference in his drop on pass plays? QB isn't as deep in pistol compared to shotgun, as mentioned above. More time to pass, fewer steps to take, when compared to under the center. Backs can hit the hole faster compared to shotgun, but a bit slower compared to under center. Backs have slightly more time to read the defense for hitting holes, which Ameer was very talented at.
  12. Had to tell my secretary today about freaking Stub hub. She wanted tickets for NU Volleyball. She was like I CANT FIND THEM! Im like how do you think I go to the home NU games every week? I buy them game day on stubhub. They are cheap as hell and I can select my section. I do not buy season tickets, because game day I can get better tickets from people who have sick kids, etc that can go for usually ticket price or less. Not a stub hub commercial. screw mike riley and all of his supporters. This season is going to be long. I hope NU wins tomorrow. However I predict the trash team of Ill-noise will beat us. I will just cry in my pillow. So bring on the heat. Really hope you're wrong about the game tomorrow. I think we will win, as the high wind forecast should help the defense. Illinois have not impressed me this year, at all. However, we have shown most teams can have a shot winning against us, so I won't be shocked if we lose, but I'll keep supporting the team and wishing for the best.
  13. And why not? Isn't it an advantage to us when opposing teams come here and our QBs have experience in the weather and theirs don't? I feel like you are making this out to be more of an impact than it really is. In the cold, your body is warm if you're playing. A sub might have issues, but a starter likely won't.
  14. I haven't watched any of their games, but we can't count them out. ACC isn't a good conference, but their game against UNC isnt a reason we look past them. I think we will win the game, don't get me wrong, but I could see this closer than I want. Hopefully, we make adjustments on defense and shut down their offense, if we do, it will be a great day.
  15. Wideouts have dropped a lot of passes. Tommy is much improved, though.
  16. I don't think he meant we can look past Wisconsin, and I don't think most people are overlooking them either. It will be a tough game, and if we don't fix some stuff, could be an ugly game.
  17. Yeah, Pelini said the same thing, but nice attempt. I felt the old coach blamed his players more than the coaches. Sometimes it is on the players, but after 7 years that gets old. Either way, he's gone. Can we stop the comparisons yet? Reading posts about Bo gets old. Wait until the entire season is over and we have a larger sample size and can at least see what changed throughout the season.
  18. As a fan, I want to see W. As a coach, I've had parents ask why X player isn't playing and it's usually practice issues. Hope Wilbon gets it figured out, looks like he has potential.
  19. Hope these predictions are wrong, and I expect us to have 7+ wins this year. Hopefully I'm not eating my words in a few weeks...
  20. I'm guessing he means with how much Tommy has improved from last season. I agree, glad to see him having a good season so far, in spite of all the drops receivers have had. I think he looks quite a bit improved from last season.
  21. IMO, if I'm coaching against Nebraska, I'm focusing on an air attack. Coaches look to exploit weaknesses of the opposition, and our pass defense has been weak so far, to say the least. You're crazy if you don't believe teams will focus more on passing in their week of preparation from us. Does that mean they will abandon the run? Of course not, if that's your strength as a team, you will try to use it. Do I think we will see more passing from these teams? Definitely. Few runs, then take a chance at the deep ball. If we are able to stop run plays early in a game against big ten opponents, I think we will see pass plays early, and often. If we can't stop the run, we are dead in the water. This defense is definitely meant to stop run first, so I hope running teams can't gash us.
  22. I agree there a ton of variations, but if a back can hit the right hole and has the ability to read defenses he should play. He has shown he can do that, so I doubt it is scheme related. It very well could be, though I'm guessing it is something else.
  23. I enjoyed seeing his runs. Definitely adds a new wrinkle for teams to worry about defending, plus, we have seen he can have a ton of success on those quick hitters. Glad we have found a use for fullbacks besides blocking.
  24. Tommy has looked very good this year. He is much improved when you compare him to last year.
  25. Opposite side would be very weak, though. It might work though, I don't really know. Probably be a good "special" package for specific situations.
