Who is going to fire HP now...he won't get let go at this point. HP won't fire SE and SE won't fire MR. So nothing can happen until then I'm afraid. Maybe spring is better saves the recruiting class and gives new coach the summer and fall to build the next class. I want to have hope as much as the next person that we have a new coaching staff next year, but if Riley survives through February there is no way he is fired until after next season. It would make absolutely no sense to fire a coach and bring in a new coach AFTER spring practice.

I want Riley gone as much as the next guy, but firing him in May or whenever the new Chancellor gets hired is an awful move. Spring practices would be over by then. At that point in time might as well finish one more useless season with the guy. And that sucks. Just fire him after the iowa game, let us go coachless for 4 months, who cares.

Banker/Riley have the experience to deal with seasons like this
BoNeyard replied to GBRedneck's topic in Husker Football
Does Banker remind anyone of Joe Biden a bit with the statements he makes. -
Does anyone think we'll be better next year?
BoNeyard replied to airboose's topic in Husker Football
As 4-8 is likely this year. I say next year with this staff it is probably more like 5-7 or 6-7 (bowl game). Not much better, but more wins next year by a game or two. I live in Oregon and I can not stand the Oregon Ducks. Therefore; if this staff is retained and Riley beats the Ducks I will make a statue of him on my front yard. Really if Nebraska goes 1-11 next year with their sole win being Oregon I will call the season a success. -
Please stop thinking that our situation is somehow unique.

at least we aren't this bad because of sanctions. We got to the cellar with integirty and respect. -
Banker to UH (please)....
BoNeyard replied to irieboy8's topic in Rumorville: Hirings / Firings / What Ifs
Somebody has to pay the price and I agree he will never fire Banker and I don't think he will fire Langsdorf or Cavanaugh either. Maybe he can help them find new jobs, I don't know. The only assistants I see him firing is Brian Stewart (Secondary), Bruce Read (ST), Reggie Davis (RB) and even we don't know if that is a scenario that will play out. whoa whoa whoa, according to your sources this entire staff is gone, even possibly after the MSU game. Please don't retract from that since its the only hope I have for the season. -
Everyone here in Oregon thought Frost was gone last year, everyone around the Duck program thought he would be Nebraska's next head coach. Would make sense also since Oregon and Nebraska face off the next two seasons. Good insight there,

yep, in all honesty Riley is riped to win one of these big games..be it MSU or Iowa..He will get one of those.

Is the sock puppet a member at this club?

The unfortunate thing is, the gate $ is not nearly as important as it use to be given all the money the programs get from TV deals. I heard somewhere where gate money is like 5th on the list of money generators for programs well behind such things as the B1G network, TV revenue, etc.

Banker to UH (please)....

Riley should go too. Great retirement at Hawai'i. Far better than retiring in Nebraska. -
money talks. the fire grows.

I could see Riley resigning. He is not use to this heat from everyone, he's never been pressured by big time boosters like Nebraska has. This is all overwhelming for Riley. He had it comfortable in OSU and only left because he started to feel the heat there, finally. we can all hope Riley realizes this is not the place for him, and never will be and just resign. It's best for all parties.

Is there still hope FTW?

Just think if he kept Bo! Ha, probably would have been a good choice to start off since Husker nation loved Bo at that time. He would have won over some of the fan base.
-
Most of those coaches did decently well too.....better than Riley's stint at Nebraska and Riley had all that experience. Admit we have a dumpster fire here and the only guy who is willing to come is Frost....let's not miss out on him. Lets just try it, it cant be worse.
-
Bo had ZERO head coaching experience, and lets face it, he really wasn't that great of a football coach. Yet, somehow he was capable of winning seven straight 9 win seasons at Nebraska........... Mike Riley has 40+ years of coaching experience, comes from a program loaded with 2* recruits and poor facilities, and comes to Nebraska, inherits a 9 win team, plus some of the best facilities and goes 3-6..................................................

This Missouri fan is thoroughly enjoying Huskers downfall right now.

I would take Callahan over Riley. At least Callahan had potential, and even showed he could recruit to NU. Callahan's downfall was Cosgrove. That is how bad Riley is, he has made me put Callahan's regime into perspective, that it actually makes me wonder if Callahan was really that bad? Callahan was a banned word in my household.

we let Frost go to a program like Houston/Memphis, we run the risk of missing the boat on him. Who is to say if he goes someowhere first, he will even be available the same time we are looking for a coach? Look, we are pretty much "rebuilding" now while Riley is here and for the forceable future. So why not give it to the hands of a young up and comer who can rebuild it... I think Frost would be smart enough to surround himself with experienced coaches in the assistant positions. Frost will only be a coordinator for so long, it's about time he gets a HC gig somewhere. And what if he just dominates at a place like Houston or Memphis? He suddenly becomes a hot name and IF we are even trying to get him we will probably have to compete with other big time programs.

Contract Extensions are coming
BoNeyard replied to Scoop's topic in Rumorville: Hirings / Firings / What Ifs
LOL if ANYONE in this pile gets an extension then Nebraska football shall just fold for the coming decade.
