  1. Just got Hulu playing in time to see the first play is a NW TD.... sigh...
  2. I think most of us do. We all need a little more “united we stand” and a lot less “divided we fall”. Even when we have different political beliefs I think we all want the country to be the best it can be.
  3. Hope we win, but expect we will lose. Northwestern is better than Purdue.
  4. That's great, but how do you quantify that? I agree that past performance is not everything. Bo Pelini was one of the best DCs in the country but a middling head coach when he made it to the next level in my opinion. Muschamp the same, Charlie Strong the same. However, Urban Meyer was a great assistant, coordinator and then head coach and there are statistics one could look at in each position to make the determination that he was suited to go to the next level. I know of no way to quantify the qualities SF has that will make him a great HC, other than to say 'he has been a successful FBS HC' (and now he has). I was willing to take a chance on him 3 years ago when he was still just the OC at Oregon because they were so successful, but others (with good reason as noted above) wanted data on success at the next level. Looking at him as a person and his 'qualities' sounds great but there is no way I know of to quantify that. That sounds a bit too much like Billy Beane when he was drafted into the MLB. A few people seem to have the 'qualities' to be a good X (Head Coach, MLB player, etc), but if you can't put it into numbers than it is a hunch, not a fact based opinion.
  5. Shockingly, past performance remains the only realistic way to judge employees expected performance. And this works 75-90% of the time. Always.
  6. The key to doing any of this sort of stuff is to PLAN AHEAD. Put it LITERALLY on the CALENDAR the school sends to the season ticket holders. Print it ON THE TICKETS. Publicize it up the wazzou. That's what these other schools do... not try 3 days ahead of time to do something complicated. That's a recipe for failure.
  7. How does she feel about being the meme for 'crazy gf' (and not in a good way)?
  8. Born in Nebraska and lived there until I was 16. Remember going to games in the early 80s with my Dad. He'd get the season tickets his work had when there was a game no one wanted to go to. I remember a game where we beat Pacific like 77-0. We literally had the 5th string in. Pacific doesn't even have a football team any more I believe. Most of the games I got to go to were like that but they were still great fun. Remember going to one Oklahoma game in the mid 80s (I think we lost). Distinctly remember a bumper sticker that said 'If I owned Hell and Oklahoma, I'd live in Hell and rent out Oklahoma" Was always a fan even though I went to another school out of state (Virginia Tech). I saw more Nebraska games than VT games when i was in college (although to be fair, VT wasn't that good then). Got my first job in Arizona and went to the Debacle in the Desert wearing Husker red. Watched in total disbelief as the team that was probably the best team in the history of college football in 1995 got stomped by ASU. Scott Frost looked like a deer in the headlights (and to be honest I don't blame him). Our D had apparently never seen a bubble screen before and ASU ran about 100 of them. Haven't lived in Nebraska since 1986 but have been back a few times for family... but still love Husker football because I was brought up to love it.
  9. Yeah, come back and feel free to crow when we beat PSU by 20. We'll be lucky to LOSE to PSU by 20...
  10. Even ESPN is against us... recommending SF for Florida... above Mullen and Chip Kelly.... http://www.espn.com/college-football/insider/story/_/id/21211691/who-florida-gators-hire-replace-jim-mcelwain This is an insider story so not everyone can read it but still...
  11. Well the Florida folks have a different take on this (obviously). According to them JM was brought in to improve the offense as much as the rest of the team and his offenses have been godawful (averaging 105/130) in the NCAA. On top of that he has not gotten on well with the AD and boosters. Yes they backed into some division titles but he days of that happening with Kirby now at Georgia is over.
  12. We are in deep crap now. Florida will try to steal Frost for sure. Hope the idiot boosters and AD had already come to some unofficial deal with Frost, if not we may not get him.
  13. I am not sure where people get this idea that Moos is going to keep Riley. SE was FIRED MID SEASON! You don't DO that if you are happy with the current path. Riley is as good as gone and you can see on his face that HE knows it too. Moos was hired to do one thing well and that is get the best football coach he can to replace Riley. Yeah Frost might decide to stay at UCF another year but I seriously doubt it. It's gonna be real hard to turn down Tennessee and Nebraska and possibly UCLA or other P5 jobs that are going to come knocking. If he DOES stay and Florida doesn't get better next season, then Florida would almost certainly offer him a job at 5-6M/year. I don't see McElwain getting it done. If that happens than we can probably kiss him goodbye as a Nebraska coach because Gainesville is a very nice place to live if you are making that kind of cash.
  14. I think Frost gets at least 1 more year and probably 2 more years than Riley if he needs them just because of who he is (former Husker National Champion QB), but I also don't think he will need them. He will succeed here, certainly in comparison to the last 3 coaches.
  15. Northwestern beat Iowa in overtime. I would say the odds are very good we lose to Northwestern, Purdue and (of course) PSU. May also lose to Minnesota as bad as that is.... Us getting to a bowl is total dreamland at this point. It could happen but it is <10% chance.
  16. Ripping out the carpet and all of the furniture in my office so we can replace it with that tile that looks like a wood floor... not looking forward to that... I mean the floor will be nice, but ripping it out and moving stuff sucks...
  17. Well, I thought the data about how rare it is for a team to steal an existing P5 coach was worth reading. I think a lot of folks on here have unrealistic expectations as to who we can get (throwing out names like Sabin, etc).... this should help bring the conversation back to something more reasonable. So, OP, I for one appreciated it.
  18. Amen... to me 'bend but don't break' is as stupid as 'prevent defense'. All prevent defense does is prevent you from winning because your guys are so far off of the WRs. Bend but don't break apparently is similar in that you give the offense a massive cushion to throw under. Makes no sense at all.
  19. Not sure where you are getting that 32nd nationally thing... the only 32 I see in that data is Pass D and Rush O and both of those are percentiles, which means that literally 68% of teams are BETTER than us in that. We aren't 32nd. We are considerably worse than that.
  20. But have you ever been to a game in the Swamp? I have and it was crazy fun. That's a rocking place to watch football game. And while I won't say the fans are the same level as Nebraska fans, they are still a good group of folks who love their Gators... I could definitely see Frost at UofF and I think he would do VERY WELL there. Luckily for us I am not sure that Florida has gotten to the point that they are ready to fire McElwain..
  21. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/ucf-knights/os-sp-scott-frost-ucf-nebraska-salary-nebraska-20171017-story.html UCF isn't going to let Frost go without a fight
  22. Yeah we don't beat Purdue unless the team has a come to Jesus moment... and those don't usually happen on away night games where your HC knows he is gone at the end of the season... if we play like we did against tOSU we will lose by at least 14.
  23. Pros to firing Riley now: Gets his mediocrity out of the team ASAP Potentially gets us 1 or 2 more wins before end of the year Makes it clear to everyone we are looking for a new HC (not that most question that now anyway) and lets us start the search (which I am convinced is already occurring) Cons to firing Riley now: Doesn't change the likely final result of the season (still gonna suck) Puts ANOTHER change right on top of an expected HC change at end of year - not good for program stability Potentially puts an interim coach in the mix of saying 'hey, I did better than you expected, you should hire me', with all the player confusion and angst that entails Makes it clear we are writing off this season and the players don't have to try the rest of the year I think the cons are worse than the pros for this one so I agree that Moos is right about no point in firing Riley midyear.
