  2. you can follow him @BobElliottGBR do your thing Husker fans
  3. obviously can't just throw anyone out there and expect it to run the same, but I think this system really makes NU's margin for error much larger than a 4-3 scheme does. Nebraska has produced good walk on's at both LB and DE but it is incredibly hard to find good enough DT's at large enough quantities to be able to run a dominate 4-3 in college, especially given Nebraska's location. There are simply more really really good LB's out there than there are DT's. Being able to use the walk-on program for depth at LB and DE in this system will be extremely helpful and very much suits the football climate of the state of Nebraska IMO. The less elite level linemen Nebraska has to recruit to run a defensive scheme, the better.
  4. Absolutely phenomenal find Saunders- +1 for sure. Really looking forward to seeing how Nebraska does moving forward in this scheme. Think it is probably the best fit for us- and should help us when playing teams that use the 3-4 like Wisconsin as well.
  5. The first paragraph is crazy. He has had 1 wining season in 5 years. That seems like a sufficient reason to me. We have a new practice facility and arena, so the investment is there. Granted, we will not get a "big name" coach. But so what? If that was the requirement, then Danny Nee would still be here. As for the 2nd paragraph, we change assistants every year. Its basically a revolving door. Re-read what I posted. Its worded oddly, sure, but I said there "isn't a lack of a sufficient reason to fire him". We've spent on the facilities, yes. But even the facilities were going to be done on the cheap until boosters saw what was happening and stepped in to prevent it. Without looking at statistics, I would venture NU's coaching salary pool is in the bottom 1/3rd of the Big Ten. So we fire Tim Miles. Are we going to automatically start spending on coaches now?
  6. Sounds like its about time to send 84HuskerLaw for the in-home visit to seal the deal
  7. http://www.hurricanesports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=205555851 Without derailing the subject at hand, the hires at NU have been underwhelming to say the least. I stand behind my doubts on Eichorst.
  8. I went to school at UConn and watch every game. I know the American Athletic Conference inside and out. Tulane has been the worst team in the conference since it formed. Literally atrocious. The AAC is the best G5 league and Tulane had one of the worst staffs and teams in C-USA before making the step UP to the American. Remember, this is a league that had a CFP contender last year and has had multiple 10 win teams that have beaten P5 teams with regularity. Teams like Temple, Memphis, Houston, Navy, and USF are extremely competitive. The American Athletic Conference sent as many players to the NFL combine this year as the Big XII did. There is talent in this league. It just doesn't reside in NOLA for the most part. Their division (Memphis, Houston, Tulsa, Tulane, SMU, Navy) is infinitely more talented than them. They are going to improve under now second year coach Dannen (sp?) but it will take time. Tanner was the lone bright spot on their team. The O-Line was HORRIFIC. You simply can't make a final judgement on Taylor from his stats at Tulane. The coaches were awful, the skill players were horrible, and the O Line was putrid. Oh and the D couldn't stop a 5th grade PAL league team.
  9. Also in the American Athletic Conference championship game Katie Lou Samuelson set a NCAA record for women's players going 10-10 from 3. Maybe Miles should inquire about a grad transfer after next season since she's only a Sophomore:
  10. somehow it feels like they weren't exactly on the bubble
  11. It should also be pointed out that I severely doubt Mr. Eichorst has the testicular fortitude to hire us a great basketball coach.
  12. He had 9 D1 offers... notables such as Wyoming, UNO, SDSU, and Air Force The main knock on kids like this is athleticism, but people always forget about 'how good are you at basketball' Having D-1 offers =/= being able to play at D-1 level. He would have washed out had he gone to a bigger school. Impossible to say. I'm sure if Drew Ott played at NDSU instead of Iowa a lot of people would make the same argument that it wouldn't have worked out if he played in the B10 1. Strawman argument. 2. You're talking about a completely different sport. 3. You're talking about someone who was actually offered a scholarship by a Big Ten institution. Ott also had a Kansas State football offer. Two P5 programs identified him as someone that could contribute as a P5 player. This thread is about Mike Daum, who chose between Wyoming, Air Force, and South Dakota State. Nobody in their right mind thought this kid was a P5 level player out of high school, and if he were at Nebraska or any other Big Ten institution right now he would be a backup role player at best because of his lack of athleticism on the defensive end. Stop digging yourself a hole trying to say this kid is a legit P5 level player. He's a nice story for SDSU and not much more than that.
  13. He had 9 D1 offers... notables such as Wyoming, UNO, SDSU, and Air Force The main knock on kids like this is athleticism, but people always forget about 'how good are you at basketball' How do you think Mike Daum guarding Nigel Hayes would have gone this year? He isn't a good defender, but we also just gave up 93 pts to an average Michigan team at home. How nice would it have been to have a consistent 3P shooter and spread the floor more for the guards to penetrate? would've been fantastic, obviously. Against the 3 best teams SDSU played in the non-conference schedule (Wichita State, Cal, ETSU) Daum was 17-38 from the floor (44.7%) and 5-13 (38.4%) from 3. For comparisons sake: McVeigh, Jack: 71-192 (37%) from the field, 45-135 (33.3%) from 3 Horne, Jeriah: 46-112 (41.1%) from the field, 21-63 (33.3%) from 3 Roby, Isaiah: 37-91 (40.7%) from the field, 4-19 (21.1%) from 3 Gill, Anton: 16-59 (27.1%) from the field, 8-29 (27.6%) from 3 Taylor, Evan: 58-144 (40.3%) from the field, 4-22 (18.2%) from 3 Jacobson, Michael: 70-178 (39.3%) from the field, 4-23 (17.4%) from 3 http://www.huskers.com/fls/100/MBBStats/2017/TEAMCUME.HTM?DB_OEM_ID=100#TEAM.OCF There is no doubt that offensively, Nebraska is about as effective as a sack of pubic hair laying at midcourt. I mean the fact that our starting Power Forward shoots 39.3% from the floor should probably tell you everything you need to know about how terrible Nebraska is at scoring the basketball. There is no denying that adding Daum would give us a lift on offense. I just don't think you can definitevely say that he would have played anywhere near 1. the minutes he currently enjoys at SDSU 2. the freedom of shot selection he currently enjoys at SDSU and 3. as efficiently as he has for SDSU this season. Horne was in the dog house all year because his lack of ability to defend, while statistically being the best shooter we had on the team besides Tai or Glynn. Daum was eaten alive last night by Thurman of Omaha, seriously it was incredible to watch. Daum couldn't defend a castle if there was a moat surrounding it with no bridge and it was being attacked by Girl Scouts. No shot Miles would play him extensive minutes here and I severely doubt this kid would have developed like this if he came to UNL. Imagine the backlash of giving this kid a scholarship out of high school. He was so bad he almost got kicked out of SDSU. Best thing we can do is just cheer for him and maybe he would be interested in grad transferring to his home state for a year down the road.
  14. My biggest hesitation with letting go of Miles isn't that there is a lack of sufficient reason to fire him, but the lack of an obvious candidate to replace him going forward. So you fire Tim Miles. Now what? Realistically is NU ready to spend with the big boys on basketball budget? I doubt it. We have the financial capabilities to bring in a top tier coach but a top tier coach will not set foot in LNK to coach the Huskers. i think the more shrewd and appropriate move would be to make a few staff changes and bring in a couple of assistants that can 1. install an offensive scheme that we can fall back on when we really need a bucket and 2. (maybe even more important than 1) teach our guards how to properly defend the 3 point shot. I am constantly dumbfounded by how atrocious our 3 point defense is. Our rotations are SLOW and people are often flying out at three point shooters out of control way too late to provide a proper contest. Wasn't Molinari supposed to be some sort of defensive guru? I have yet to see where the Huskers have really improved underneath his tutelage.

  16. it was so obvious that he was our most critical piece even at the beginning of the season. This is from the recap of the Clemson game I posted- only game I got to see in person this year: http://www.huskerboard.com/index.php?/topic/81667-anyone-going-to-clemson-tomorrow/ "Ed Morrow is simply on another level than every other big man we have. This may seem obvious but the dude just flat out hustles all the time, even when he's away from the ball. He made a couple of really really nice plays around the basket. If our bigs (and team for that matter) all played with the aggression and assertiveness that he plays with we would win 2-3 more games from sheer intensity alone. Morrow regularly gives up at least 3 inches in the post, yet his work ethic and hustle allow for him to be a dominate presence in the paint. Probably the most enjoyable player on our team to watch."
  17. really fired up to hear Diaco after practice today
  18. it is both a block and a rebound. If you tap it into the hoop after a miss its also a rebound, FGA, and FGM
  19. if you want to update the OP he visited here last June
