  1. Alabama returning to a National Power was not likely before Saban came in, and even during his first couple of years. Michigan returning to a national power was not likely before Harbaugh came in. Clemson being a national power wasn't likely until last year. Chin up. honestly it was likely for Bama, Michigan, Clemson all of those places are rich with talent within 500 miles unlike we have here. All of those schools particularly Bama are in talent rich areas
  2. I like Alonzo Moore and the safetys Gerry and K Williams
  3. Darnay isnt gonna be N....Hafiz isnt a bad prospect at all. and while Darnay would be great this is a position we can afford to take solid not spectacular prospects this cycle
  4. This is an interesting question that I've been wondering about. I guess pot is still illegal under federal law, right? If it wasn't, what about the teams in pot legal statesBroncos, Sea Hawks, Raiders, Rams, Chargers? Not to mention all the states where it is legal for medicinal purposes. There's a code of conduct that NFL players have to live by if they want to stay in the league. And they aren't the only ones - I have a friend who was the principal of a private school, and he wouldn't go to restaurants with a bar because under the terms of his employment he was forbidden to consume alcohol. He didn't mind at all, by the way. To him the job was worth that unimportant (to him) restriction. It's different in the NFL though when these guys put their body through what they do then are given pain medication that can be detrimental to them. I understand why some players would rather resort to pot than the treatments given by team doctors
  5. What I like is the staffs ability to just look for and snag talented guys. Take Robert Porcher for example. Wasn't highly rated when we signed him and now he is a 4* recruit. Some of that may be from us signing him but I think he seems like a pretty good kid that will help our program. Though this could be said for any recruiting class as they are often filled with hope and curiosity as to how they will perform as Huskers, I really do think we are bringing in quality recruits.
  6. Definitely could be N when ink hits paper, this would be huge!
  7. He clearly has a problem but personally I think nfl guys shouldnt be subject to drug testing for pot due to medical reasons. Not to say that is Gregory's case but man those pain meds can really mess with people
  8. Starting to restore some much needed depth to the O Line. Hopefully we continue to heal up
  9. Do you mean like Michigan or Osu better get serious dude. Get off the kool aide! what makes you think those O-line prospects are that kind of good? and if they were even close do you honestly honestly think Mr. Cavanaugh is going to be the guy that is gonna get the job done! We are a FREAKIN ALSO RAN!!! and unless something radically changes we will still be having these same conversations five yrs. from now!!!!!We are going to be alot better than now and that will give us a chance. Be pessimistic if you want to but I don't think it's drinking the kool-aid to say out oline will only improve from here, and I would say we will improve significantly over what we have now. Alot of that is because our line is playing pretty bad right now. If we could get consistently tough play and smart play from our Oline we can compete with those teams, we just have a few weak links on the line right now. Gates was pretty good last night so to think we can't get guys good enough is just plain wrong because we have one starting right now.Dude better get alot more like him and btw he prob wouldn't start for USU so there is that. We have guys like that red shirted. We are in on the number 1 offensive lineman in the nation. OSU would start Gates, he outplayed their LT. And even if they wouldn't he is still the closest thing we have to that level available. I don't understand why you are dogging our young OL talent so hard. Let's give them a chance first I am not but what in the world makes you think they are the high quality we need, seriously are you saying they will be, do you have some inside info. nope just faith in them because I love this team. They were also pretty touted recruits, so until they prove otherwise I'm going to believe they will turn out to be solid players.
  10. You weren't the only one fooled. A blowout like this continues to sets the program back. If this happens in year 4 of the Riley experiment then we need to move on.most people can agree with this. But this is year two and we may have been out coached but our players were out played as well. Coaches called some plays especially early that gave us a chance. The players didn't execute on some of those plays. At the same time it was clear Meyer and Co was much better than Riley and Co yesterday. It's not all on the coaches, our coaches are't bad coaches at all. Exact same should be said for the players. But Ohio State has one if the 3 best coaches in college football and players across the board who would be starting over our guys if they played for us. Not at every position, but at most positions. Combine that with the fact we came out and executed poorly and fell apart with playcalling, and OSU played one of their best games to date yiu get a blowout loss There was a lot of half effort by the players. It's become acceptable for blowouts to occur. The reason Meyer gets stressed out over a loss is that his biggest fear is losing will become acceptable. We have witnessed these kind of blowouts under 2 different coaching staffs so I place a lot of blame on player attitude. I'm giving the coaches 2 more years to fix that. Maybe Riley's leadership style will eventually instill enough pride into the players that they will never give up in difficult games but I don't know. He seems like too nice of a guy and I think the fix involves less coddling and more tough love. Something maybe only an a-hole like Meyer can deliver which is meant as no disrespect to him. Perhaps Riley can simply set the expectations higher and the players will respond. I definitely believe these kind of losses set a program back. If I was one of the many 4 and 5 star OSU recruits watching the game last night, I would not consider Nebraska. We had an A hole as a coach before so I don't think that is the key to urbans success. Not saying you were saying it was, but I don't think personality is a determining factor, more how you utilize your personality. Other than that I can't disagree with anything you said A-hole was a short description of Meyer I used to convey my point. If you equated it to Bo then it sent the wrong message which is why I added the "no disrespect intended". A more accurate description of Meyer is a highly competitive person that holds everyone accountable and a masterful manipulator. Look at some of the things he has done. Questionable offensive play calling in a loss to MSU gets Beck demoted and Warriner is given play calling duties. Defense not playing to his expectations so Fickel is in effect demoted to Co-defensive coordinator. He doesn't let things slide, sets high expectations and is willing to make changes when they aren't met. I can't imagine all the ways he manipulates the minds of young players. One obvious thing he probably uses is that most of them have aspirations to play at the next level. He can draw the highly rated recruits in selling them on the idea that his staff can put them into the NFL. If they don't perform well, I'm sure he's not afraid to bench players. That is a lever he has because of the 4 and 5 star players sitting on the bench. Given that atmosphere I doubt many underclassmen that can be drafted would stick around for an extra year. Might as well go play in a similar high pressure situation and get paid. Most people work with someone that doesn't work as hard as they should. There are athletes that perform below their potential and aren't earning their scholarship. With Meyer there are consequences. In our marshmallow world some would call that being an a-hole. I respect what he has accomplished and I don't have a problem with how he does it. Again I understand and agree. I know you weren't thinking of a Bo comparison but I was just pointing out I don't think tough love is the right or wrong answer. I don't think what Riley does is the right or wrong answer. I think it is largely determinate on how you go about it like your pointed out with Urban. Simply doing the tough love thing won't work unless you know how to work it to the advantage of you and your players in a sustained manner, which Urban, Saban, and Harbaugh all do with alot of success. But the players coach nice guy type can succeed as well if he can properly use that attitude to get the most out of the players. If done correctly, that type of coaching can produce incredible results. 3 of our titles can attest to that
  11. Darlington Darlington doesn't practice at QB. He's the "emergency" QB. What makes you think he can be a competent QB and can lead NU to a win over Minnesota? I don't I was just being fescious, but Darlington is more athletic which would help behind our line. I'm not saying he is the answer but his skillset would maybe help us more than Fyfes given our OL situation. That being said it's Fyfe all the way if Tommy can return soon

  14. Really none at all. And they ignore that we have scholarship players sitting behind them - so whose fault is it if those guys aren't prepared to compete? No one's? Just because we don't want to burn shirts doesn't mean the coaches are at fault they aren't ready.Which redshirt freshman and sophomore players' redshirted are they protecting? what scholly players are sitting behind walk ons that aren't redshirted right now? It's too late to burn the shirts, we gotta live with what we have, but what we have isn't great and that's a factDo you follow the huskers? Try using a link to a depth chart. you win I was wrong about this, but I stand behind my other points.

Just because we don't want to burn shirts doesn't mean the coaches are at fault they aren't ready.Which redshirt freshman and sophomore players' redshirted are they protecting? I don't understand why Decker, Barnett, and other o-linemen aren't playing. I understand that players have a responsibility to develop their skills, but where is this awesome coaching that enables them to develop. Also, I understand that they want the true freshman to redshirt and build for the future, but is looking 3-4 years ahead worth throwing a way a potential strong season with a ton of senior leaders at the skill position? When these guys were recruited, we heard "these guys have potential to play right away" but when they aren't it's ok because the coaches want to save them for the future? Are the coaches going to stop recruiting o-linemen just because they have 4 stud guys that are redshirting this year? I think the coaches should be comfortable that they should be able to recruit their replacements in the next 2-3 years. Only thing I'll say about the redshirts is if we keep recruiting OL well that helps build depth. I'll take the L to CM on this though, didn't realize we had scholarship guys without the redshirt not playing that maybe should

  17. please read ColoradoHusks post. No one is saying we should get rid of walk ons, but we need the top end recruits too
  18. That was a long time ago. Times have changed man, with the collection of talent some other teams have, you can't win with a team of walk ons. We've had some great walk ons, and we will in the future, but you can't rely on those guys to win you the games. Also not every walk on is great, some kind of suck and it's not because the coaches couldn't bring them along, they just don't have the same kind of talent as the 5 star recruits. I never said we shouldn't have walk ons contribute, but when 60% of your line is walk ons and every player on the defense is a 4 or 5 star recruit, you are at a disadvantage. It's also false narrative that NU won 20-30 years ago with a team of walk-ons. I understand the walk on program at NU has been very key to NU's success, but that's when those players are sprinkled in with uber-talented scholarship players and a system that allows for walk-ons to excel. No way, walk ons are just as talented as scholarship guys! Sarcasm

  21. really? How many players on that OSU team would be starting here if they were here? I'm willing to say the only husker players that would play on OSUs roster would be Gates, Carter, and Westy. Gerry would see some PT but Hooker is the real deal. We were at the pretty strong talent/speed disadvantage, and that makes coaching difficult. We flopped out there and alot of that is on the coaches, but we don't win that game last night regardless of how prepared we were. If we played them last week it may be a different story, but OSU played a pretty great game besides how good we made them look
