  1. Debuts as a near 5-star on Rivals, coming in at #31 on their updated top250.
  2. Made the Rivals250 list at #249 today and is now a 4-star on Rivals.
  3. Sorry if this was already posted. https://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/football/chinander-fisher-touch-on-new-defensive-culture-we-re-trying/article_c0fef3de-4f10-5d51-bdbf-8a4734d666eb.html
  4. Basically the ideal 3-4 ILB. Very nice to get him on a visit. UV now and then OV to a big game during the season and seal the deal.
  5. Definitely appears to be a DB at the next level, all of his bigger offers are for that side of the ball. Sounds like he is going to USC if they want him. Doesn’t hurt to try to continue recruiting him though.
  6. I agree with you for the most part but it sounds like we were the only Power-5 team willing to let Frost name his price in every way, shape, and form. Which to be clear, I’m not saying is a bad thing yet. I think it’s very likely that we have a rockstar head coach and that his staff is exactly what he needs. But it’s also possible that a few of them will need to be replaced and that would be on Moos as well in my opinion. The best barometer is to ask which assistants would have been hired at other successful schools in our conference. Walters had a couple of OC options, it feels like teams are hesitant to hire him when they think Frost is mostly responsible for UCF’s offense. But he still had options. Chinander seems like the perfect hire for our defense, I think he probably could have been promoted. But most of the other guys were considering staying at UCF until they saw the money - which Frost reportedly had to ask for more of. And our 10th assistant has no previous coaching experience, which I don’t mean as a knock on Ruud but he likely wouldn’t have been hired as a Power-5 guy right away. Eichorst had to go but I also think there was tremendous external pressure to fire Banker and the Diaco hire was seen as one of the best hires of the off-season. That whole situation felt like boosters forcing his hand. That might have worked better from the start rather than year 3 when Riley desperately needed wins.
  7. All that matters is that Frost is here. I do think it’s an important distinction to note with Moos though, as I don’t think he deserves immunity from criticism for life or anything - at least not yet. He got Frost here and kept the hiring process from becoming a circus. Those are big positives. But everything else points to Moos having little to no bargaining power. Frost got to bring his entire staff here, and they all received major raises, all the while being able to coach their previous team through the bowl game. None of that matters if they’re all capable Power-5 coaches and we are able to hit the ground running with realistic achievements in the near future. But if there’s a bit of a hiccup, where we need to make coaching upgrades in a few spots, then Moos has to take a lot of the blame in my opinion. I have no trouble believing that Florida and Tennessee said no to Frost rather than the other way around.
  8. Very good news. I think we have names on a list at this point, I wouldn’t call our RB group deep yet. Bryant being full-go would help to change that.
  9. I might need to re-watch the game, which doesn’t sound too fun, but I don’t think we played Wisconsin all that tough last year. The score may have been close for longer than it should have been, but Wisconsin seemed to be in control all game long and outside of the long Morgan TD, our offense did absolutely nothing. Wisconsin got to play their style of football because we never put any real pressure on them and they just completely wore us down, which is how they want to win anyway. Their final scoring output was in the 31-40 range in 8 different games last year and they scored 38 on the dot in 3 of them (including ours). It was a very methodical beating.
  10. Yeah, that would be less than ideal. There are some players that wouldn’t hurt to lose but I would think there’d be one or two examples of bad attrition if the number is that high. I love DB, he keeps it real a lot of the time and he’s one of my favorites to listen to talk Huskers. But he’s also a bit of an extremist when it comes to guessing attrition haha. He mentioned that we were going to lose several more players last year after some deadweight left and nothing really came of it.
  11. I would be pleasantly surprised if he contributed much on the field this year. Hard to come in this late as a JUCO and adjust, even with previous FBS experiences. It sounds like he has 3 years to play, so this move should really help our ‘19 and ‘20 CB room more than anything.
  12. Well, I complained a little bit ago about possibly making McCaffrey our only QB commit but I’m opening up to it. I think we have a unique system, a very unique QB coach, and Luke likely fits extremely well with both. Name recognition will help with peer recruiting. Important to get our QB to springboard the rest of the class. My only concern is that I wouldn’t call him a 4-star QB at this point. I know he said he had a couple options at QB but I’m not sure how true that is. It feels like we struck out with QBs higher on our board but that this is hopefully a perfect match.
  13. There’s a lot of untapped potential, namely on the OLine, but I also think we’ve badly missed on a several prospects as well. Stands to reason, right? If our previous staff was so poor at coaching, which they were, we probably shouldn’t give them complete benefit of the doubt on talent evaluation. Our 2017 class finished #23, but attrition drops it to #39 on the 247 class calculator. Other teams lost recruits as well, so it’s not an exact science, but I don’t think that looks like a top 30 class at this point. Especially with questions about Roberts and potentially a couple of others. I don’t expect a bad season, I think we win 7 and possibly more if our OLine can play to its potential. But there are depth issues and a couple of spots on the roster that I don’t fully trust against anyone. I can see us revisiting expectations halfway through the season where we all sort of agree that the previous staff left the roster worse off than we gave them credit for.
  14. I didn’t know they returned their entire DLine. That’s going to be one of the best groups in the nation. They play Northern Illinois the first game of the year so that will be fun. ~35 is a safe bet - I doubt they finish above that even with a weaker conference slate.
  15. I don’t think it means the season is over before it begins or anything crazy like that but depth issues add up quickly. Part of why it never made sense how Riley kept us so far under the scholarship limit. At the very least, this type of attrition shakes up special teams. It means someone who might not have been in the game for that purpose is now in, and now one more injury slides everything around even more. I have confidence in Honas’ ability to transition to this level and I believe Roberts will buy in, but those still have to be seen as two question marks until proven otherwise. The 2017 class will need to be back-filled going forward.
  16. Keep in mind that this decision might not be up to the coaches. Certainly could be a situation where the coaches and Hampton came to a mutual understanding after meeting together and Hampton saw the writing on the wall. Maybe things will become clearer in the coming months, but this feels like bad attrition as of now. It’s not like Hampton had been recruited over by younger players yet and I think he would have given Honas a battle for the starting job, especially when Ruud has singled out Avery Roberts as a player who needs to do more.
  17. Wow. He was probably in my top 5 favorite recruits that Riley brought us. Felt he was severely overlooked and that he would be an ideal 3-4 ILB. I haven’t heard much about where he was sitting on the depth chart but I don’t love our LB depth as is.
  18. Colorado offered today to help boost his recruiting numbers for us.
  19. Our WR vs their CB matchup is going to be incredible this year. That should get a lot of coverage on the networks prior to and after the game.
  20. Stars definitely matter but this is another guy who proves that context matters more than anything. He has good height - looks well over 6’ in his film - and weight already. Leavitt coached Bowman, Willis, and RotY Chris Borland, so he is definitely trustworthy in ILB evaluations. Montana State’s head coach and DC are both LB coaches, so that’s arguably the best FCS offer he could have. Looks like a mid 3-star instead of a lower one in my opinion.
  21. Borderline 4-star, with a really good offer list. My only question on his film is if he truly measures at 6’3” because otherwise he looks like a 4-star in my mind. Good weight and frame already plus looks like he can bounce around the DLine.
