  1. UCF has hired a search firm to gauge interest. Sumlin is a name that’s popping up. They are prepared to have a coaching hire in place by next week. Something their AD should be doing even if Frost ends up staying. But certainly looks and feels like they all know he’s gone.
  2. Schaefer with a crystal ball to us. Has to like the potential for early playing time. I expect he would get some chances in camp.
  3. It sounds like our staff pressured Bookie into committing before he was truly ready. I honestly don’t think it was the worst thing, his commitment helped us secure a number of visits and commits that we may not have otherwise had. But yeah, I think he had been second guessing it before summer. Obviously it doesn’t matter as much now, since the season went poorly and we had to fire our coach. But it really helped get rid of some of that “it’s all corn!” perception by getting big name recruits on campus who got to soak in all of the incredible environment. I don’t think our chances with him are over yet though.
  4. Just that Parella might be retained if he’s still reaching out to our commits.
  5. Would be great. Helfrich is a bit of a wet blanket but he’s a good QB coach and playcaller. I think most people believe he would follow Chip to UCLA but there’s no reason we couldn’t attract him here. Not sure how I feel about keeping Donte Williams. I get that he didn’t see eye to eye with Diaco, but that’s part of what made this year such an abomination. Trashing Diaco more to defend other assistants seems like a dangerous path. A couple weeks ago, people didn’t want anyone retained. I wouldn’t mind seeing KW kept here if there’s an opening and Frost decides on that.
  6. Wiltfong with the flip to Ohio State. Their 247 guy followed shortly after and said that Brown is now a take for Ohio State and it shouldn’t take long.
  7. Before this season, I felt that a disappointing year that kept Riley around (something like 7 wins), would mean 2018 was put up or shut up time. With a second year in the defense and a second year with “their offense,” road games against Wisconsin and Iowa shouldn’t be scary. Now that we will have a new staff, I think it’s unfair to assume a major turnaround. I agree that a better staff will get more out of this team but it’s still a tough schedule. And I’m sure a lot of those teams are penciling in us as a win, as disappointing as that is to type.
  8. Haha yeah, I was going to post along the lines of depressedhusker. I think the reason he struggled is that there were so many reasons that he struggled, as silly as that sounds. Just from top to bottom, I don’t think we practiced well, I don’t think we were very organized, I don’t think everyone was on the same page, didn’t target transfers for balance, etc. It wasn’t 100% Riley’s fault but as they say, the buck stops here. Everything was either taught or allowed to happen and I remain so confused by how such experienced coaches had so many issues with the little things.
  9. Has to like our depth chart no matter who the coach is. Especially because Morgan entering the draft seems like a real possibility.
  10. I like him so far but he’s basically just said things I expected to hear - the “we need to to get our blackshirt defense back,” “I’m going to get the right leader,” “we have a great fanbase,” blah blah. I’m anxious, mostly in a good way, to see who he hires because I believe he will bring us a good one. But I’m also tired of getting burned by people saying all the right things. That was the entire off-season last spring basically. He did a good job today, but he also said some things that made me ??? I know it’s probably just semantics and the way he worded his sentence, but the whole “I haven’t been told no,” thing is either misleading or wrong. It sounds like he was definitely told no by at least two options. And yes I realize that he said it in connection with “I haven’t been told no by someone I offered” but that’s not a distinction I care about.
  11. We could do worse, but I wouldn’t be a fan of a Sumlin hire. He’s been trending badly downward since losing Manziel even though he’s had a lot of NFL talent on the roster. I credit him for having that talent on the roster in the first place, but doing less with more is a major red flag. Maybe he needs a change of scenery but Fuente, Campbell, and Frost look way better to me than Sumlin or Leach.
  12. I still think Frost is coming, but I can see this working out perfectly for Frost. We hire someone before his season officially ends, he doesn’t have to tell us no, and he takes the Florida job. Not to be a Debbie downer, I think Moos will get us a great hire regardless.
  13. Sounds like Moos’ presser went well and he impressed a lot of the people there. Mentioned that there are 6 names on his list and no one has told him no. Did say that the budget isn’t unlimited and that it’s important to be sensible, but that we also have to compete for market rates.
  14. Candle could be really good, he deserves all the attention he is getting. But I’m hesitant and find it weird that he has never been on a Power-5 team, as a player or a coach. Has a good career trajectory outside of that.
  15. His contract with the 49ers included no college offset. That’s why it’s so low haha. But you’re absolutely right that some of the #s being reported make no dang sense haha. $8million?!
  16. I’m not trying to defend the guy because Eichorst did a terrible job, but I’m sure there was a ton of pressure on him to make some changes as well. Firing Banker and hiring Diaco was seen as a major win for our program. People, and not just Huskers fans, were talking about it as the hire of the off-season. We might have been better with Banker but it feels too convenient to blame Eichorst for forcing a change. That move screamed of ultimatums being given.
  17. I felt pessimistic for thinking a 7 win season was worst case scenario. Whew. What a season.
  18. Wadley looking around for a flag because it was so easy like that Colorado RB in ‘01. Yuck.
  19. Well, I apologize for defending this defense for a half. We are bad and this feels bad.
  20. Bend but don’t break! But seriously, I’d call it Iowa has scored on 2/4 drives. Diaco’s defense stopped them and gave our offense the ball back. Special teams committed a dumb penalty that ruined it. #MoralVictories
  21. True but that last score should have been a stop. I know that the defense still got lit up after the penalty, but still. They’ve shown flashes to me but I get why people would disagree.
  22. I think both teams will go into half believing that they’d be winning if not for mistakes. Gut check to see who wins the 2nd half. Our guys are playing hard. Defense hasn’t been good but they have shown flashes at least.
  23. This is where we lost the Wisconsin game, letting the opponent answer anytime we did something. Stuff them here and step on their throats!!
