  1. The media is going to have fun with this. Knowing that the Big Ten is hiding something will drive this to another level.
  2. It's unfortunate but you are exactly right.
  3. Some of these teams have figured out they have time to reach team herd immunity. If everyone has had it on the team, you won't have any delays during the season created by your team. If everyone is going to get it eventually, may as well do it while you have awesome health care watching over you.
  4. I'm sure they are seeing everything. I would imagine throwing presidents under the bus would get him fired even faster. Like I stated a couple weeks ago, hell of a situation that guy landed in. I'm not sure he has a good course of action to take now that everything has been botched.
  5. Clicks of course. I think there is still a decent percentage of the nation that thinks a game will never be played this fall. Others still think there is a chance the Big Ten changes their decision and allows play later in October. Imo, the rankings are based off of opinions on the teams right now. Like others mentioned, if some teams do get to play while others don't, the rankings will change quickly.
  6. I have had the opportunity to talk to a couple of non starters on the team recently. They seemed to be pretty upbeat. From the small snap shot i got, Scott is doing a good job managing the situation from their perspective.
  7. I don't care for what some players in the NFL do but I won't let that keep me from enjoying a sport I enjoy watching. There are a lot of good people there as well. In my opinion, it is probably just about on par with any other group of rich people. Some of them are bound to be a$$ holes.
  8. Anyone who has listened to Warren knows that he likely didn't draft this letter. It was released by the Big 10 in an effort to calm the angry mob. Some language in it is encouraging though. If you read between the lines, it does allow for return the athletics as soon as they feel it's safe. That could be next week, next month, whatever. As soon as the rapid test availability is sufficient to conduct daily testing for athletes, they really will have no excuse.
  9. Powers is on a full ride scholarship. I have no intention of debating parenting with you but just know that what you suggest is not the norm for young men 4 years removed from high school. Parents fund their kids to varying degrees, and they even pretend they are in control in some cases, but they aren't. For the record I think Warren has done a terrible job through this process. I just think the line of thought you are on is completely off base.
  10. His son is a red shirt junior. It's not like he can forbid his son from doing anything - he is an adult. If you have kids in their late teens and early 20's you understand there are some dynamics involved that make it more complicated than you suggest. A good father presents information, educates, offers suggestions and then allows their kids to make final decisions. My guess is he would very much like his son to sit out but that's not his decision to make.
  11. I can't imagine how the players feel right now. Rumors being fired everywhere, the league is being silent, and they have no clue what will happen tomorrow. At least as fans we can tune it out if we choose to.
  12. Hard to beat a team twice... Even when you are the better team.
  13. I'm not sure focusing on the vote really matters at this point. I think it is easy to assume some in the conference were likely against playing this season and would have "voted" against a fall season. Football just doesn't mean as much in places like Rutgers, Maryland, etc... I do think Warren deserves much criticism over how this process has been handled. The lack of planning, the weird chain of events, his lack of leadership, and especially his lack of communication all indicate he is in over his head. I also believe his commitment to Big 10 athletics should be questioned because of the simple fact that he allowed the Big 10 to be the first domino to fall. Even if he personally was against having a season, he should have just pushed for a later start to avoid all the negative press for the Big 10. Maybe he is acting out of fear for his own son and assumed the other leagues would cancel once the Big 10 did? That seems as likely as any scenario right now.
  14. We will grab at straws until the bitter end...
  15. Agree completely Guy. Testing like this would have been a game changer 3 months ago but now is better than never. I think immediate positive impacts are still possible.
  16. To start the 26th, I agree they would need to know by the end of this month. Nothing saying they couldn't start later in October though. That would be a lot better than the spring!
  17. Wow, that's great news. How can the Big 10 not reconsider? There is literally no reason not to play if you can guarantee every player, coach, and official is Covid free. I also think availability of these tests would be incredible for our overall society. It would be so nice to be able to take a quick test prior to seeing elderly friends and family.
  18. I'm sure some of you have seen this. https://news.yale.edu/2020/08/15/yales-rapid-covid-19-saliva-test-receives-fda-emergency-use-authorization To me this is the ticket to allowing all sports to move forward. If players can take a test, and get results, hours before a game, all risk is basically removed. One individual on ESPN radio said they are under $10 a test. Teams could afford to test daily so any positives would be caught immediately. The Big 10 should have waited. Maybe if enough of these tests can be made available by mid September, it will give them reason to change their decision.
  19. Made me laugh... I'll admit I picked those away games due to easy travel. I have a hard time getting enough time off work to make it much further.
  20. While I agree it's a little early in some places, your incubation period is not accurate. The average is 4-5 days with some cases taking longer.
  21. Political influence goes both ways...
  22. Nebraska averaged at least 100,000 PPV when they were selling them. At $50 each, just 2 of them would generate $10 million. I wouldn't like it, but I would pay for a couple games a year vs having no football games in this conference. And to Nebraska, a 6 million dollar loss sure beats a 100 million dollar loss this year!
  23. There are a lot of reasons it is different but the glaring difference is the overall power of the conference is greatly diminished from the time Nebraska was there. The Big 12 lost 4 historic programs in Nebraska, Texas A&M, Colorado and Missouri. They have added 2 back, West Virginia and TCU. Those 2 teams combined don't add up to the TV views that Nebraska generates by itself. All the money in college right now is dictated by # views/ratings. The main reason the Big 10 is generating the money they are right now is because they have so many teams generating massive numbers of views. They have great bargaining power at the negotiating tables. The Big 12 has lost considerably in this department so basically they are in a position of need. Adding Nebraska back would add significantly to their financial strength, thus giving Nebraska a little more bargaining power at the table. I don't think this would result in a vastly different percentage payout but would likely place them in a slightly better situation than they were in 10 years ago. And they would be in a conference that wants to play football instead of politics.
  24. The conference does still run through Austin but it isn't the same conference we left. A year ago I thought we would be crazy if we considered it but now, it just might make sense. If the Big 12 plays through a clean season, and the the Big 10 doesn't reverse course and play, the damage to Nebraska, and the rest of the conference, will be long lasting. As it stands, we would lose 10 million a year by switching. 2 pay per view preseason games would make up that difference. I actually think it is likely Nebraska makes a change of some sorts unless the Big 10 does some serious damage control.
