  1. Relax, he knocked the runner out of bounds which counts the same as a take down tackle. The celebration is for 1) winning the rep, which they did, and 2) knocking the blocker into next week. Obviously you'd rather he wrap up and form tackle, but at least he's being physical. Yeah his tackling needs to improve, but it already has over the course of the last year. Jackson bought in and turned his career around, and there's still a section of the fanbase that would rather he fail because they have him pegged a certain way.
  2. I'm sure we'll see plenty of the DL and LBs not specifically with the first group - the coaches want to be at least 2 deep pretty much everywhere, corner seems like the only exception. But we'll see plenty of both Tannor and Alex Davis, and I expect the Daniels brothers to play about the same amount. It's hard to hold up as a NT for a whole game. I'm really excited for the DL this year though - the coaches can really reshape the line for a lot of different situations really quickly. 3rd and 1? Damion at the nose and Darrion + a Davis brother looks pretty darn stout. Passing down? Davis on the nose, Stille, and Deontre Thomas or the other Davis has a good amount of pass rush potential.
  3. I mean somebody has to take reps with the first team, so if it's an open competition it might as well be the guy you hope wins the job. I'd bet they're switching C/LG up day by day, but maybe Jurgens and Hixson are truly leading for those spots.
  4. https://www.omaha.com/huskers/football/recruiting/huskers-give-north-carolina-punter-ben-kiernan-his-first-scholarship/article_96609a50-6cfd-5a3a-b8f3-7bca08360087.html Maybe it wasn't commitable since he didn't come here, but I think it was. Totally agree on long snapper, but I see no evidence that Frost won't offer scholarships to specialists.
  5. Ideally that's the case, but Washington is up in the air and not everyone is super confident Mills makes it. Bradley was nowhere to be seen last year, so if we're down to Johnson and Mazour I'm a lot less confident. I'm aware the odds are Washington plays and Mills does show up, but there are plenty of reasons RB may not be a huge strength. Legitimate cause for concern, but it may end up being totally fine.
  6. I know the Giant's snapper (deOssie) was a LB at Brown, he actually got drafted. But I think he was drafted as an LB and happened to be good enough as a snapper to hang on - not sure what the norm is. Nice to have another LB on your coverage team though, he can hit. I think it was Ober wasn't getting down the field fast enough to contribute to the punt coverage, his snaps were fine. But you're right he's undersized, and speed will still be a problem in the NFL. I just don't ever see NFL snappers making tackles or contributing to the kick coverage, so I wonder if they only care about snap speed/accuracy where Ober might be good. There are snappers listed at 235, so depending on whether he's put on weight that could be fine - they can't hit snappers anymore anyway, he doesn't have to block. Bottom line though, I have no idea how to evaluate long snappers and am basing his shot entirely on the fact that he's been training to snap since high school. Teams don't change snappers a lot though, I think the benefit of consistency with who you've got outweighs any potential benefit of a slightly better snapper.
  7. 29 long snappers are currently under contract in the NFL - pretty much every team has one. Some pull double duty and are backups at other positions, but the majority don't. Source: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/contracts/long-snapper/ Also Madden, they list them as TEs and they're all like 40 overall.
  8. I saw a 4.91 somewhere, but nothing even semi-official looking. That would explain being replaced on punts though, pretty slow for a guy listed at 225. I'm not sure the NFL cares a whole lot about the coverage from long snappers though, and from what I remember the issue wasn't anything to do with his snaps. Nobody drafts a long snapper, but it's not a bad gig if he can grab a job out of camp - have we ever had a long snapper play in the NFL?
  9. In any case, 4.5 to 4.6 is fine for Ozigbo. As long as he didn't go out and run a 4.8 like the Texas receiver and the other numbers are good, a big back can live with that time. Apparently Young ran really well, he might stick on a roster but probably as a UDFA.
  10. The HV folks say they had Ozigbo at 4.38 in the forty which would be insane, but most other tweets are saying 4.5s which seems a lot more likely. https://twitter.com/DrPeteyHV/status/1103720835108560898
  11. How is this remotely relevant? And regardless I would say it worked anyway, he shows offers from K State, Georgia, and Mississippi State. Whether he was rated because he went to IMG or not, we weren't the only school after him. He's got a lot of time to make an impact yet, and frankly the fact that he's still on the team makes him one of the more successful 2017 recruits to date.
  12. Ah, yeah the depth chart he was ILB but the roster they kept him listed as an OLB. I just wouldn't read into the roster at the moment, because even while he was on the depth chart and playing at ILB last year he was listed as an OLB on the official roster. I expect when they update the heights and weights they'll update his position, but I don't think they're as concerned with what's listed on the roster as we are.
  13. He was last year as well, and in the pressers they talk about him in the middle. They pretty much only updated the numbers, heights/weights and positions look the saem outside of Domann being DB/OLB now. I'd rather have him at OLB as well, but seems like they're set on him in the middle.
  14. Haha yeah, take it with a grain of salt because I don't know anything about their credentials. The site as a whole seems well put together, but that guys listed previous experience is Deputy Editor of the Eagles sbnation site, so not exactly a former scout or anything.
  15. Stanley making a list of combine 'Risers' here - they're also really high on Ozigbo. Same reasons thar have been posted here - 4.53 is good enough for a guy whose not a burner, and his agility/acceleration both tested really well. If you can run routes and separate, there's a place for you in the NFL. https://thedraftnetwork.com/articles/2019-nfl-combine--wr-winners-losers-and-risers Obviously it's not all about test numbers, but being a fairly average height and speed for WRs it helps to have some differentiators like quickness and route running.
  16. Right, but he didn't redshirt and not many guys are ready to graduate in 3 years if they were playing the whole time. If you redshirt you can take a heavier course load, but I wouldn't assume he'll have graduated. Don't think he enrolled early either, but I didn't look too hard on that.
  17. It's not all about numbers, he mostly played TE and they moved him around as needed. At least on film he was a devastating blocker - against weaker competition sure, but he was destroying people when he was out there. Hickman had 1300 receiving yards and no rushing yards that I see, and most people are very excited about him. HS TEs just don't put up numbers.
  18. I dunno man, I think you're in the minority with your view any way you slice it. Jurgens was injured a lot, yes. But it wasn't just measurables, he dominates on his film like you would expect a high-level player to do at Beatrice. Totally worth the risk IMO, especially with a college S&C program to hopefully keep him healthier. Maybe he really can't stay healthy, but if he does it's a home run and it's not like Tre Bryant where he has no cartilage left in his knees. For Bando's offer I don't think we were getting anyone with much more talent, so I like taking the hometown kid who cares about the program. Your best example of measurables over actual football skill was Mapieu over Bryson Williams, that was pure idiocy from Diaco and whoever that former assistant GM consultant was. Even then most fans were fine with the Mapieu offer, just not at the expense of William's offer. Based on measurables/football I think Frost and Co. still would've taken Mapieu, his biggest problem was academics.
  19. I don't buy it. Maybe they won't play, but there's absolutely a talent level where young to gamble with an injury history. Martinez missed his senior year with a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder. Henrich was pretty dinged up most of the year - should we have not offered them? It's also weird to group Bando and Jurgens together. Jurgens is a freak athlete from our backyard, easy choice to offer even with injury risk. Bando was also from Nebraska, but as far as I know there are no injury concerns. He's not as physically talented, but he's on par with other lineman we recruited at the time.
  20. I'm assuming the AAF won't let him in since they're trying to be an NFL feeder league.. But man, he could destroy some people in that league. Maybe the XFL will give him a shot.
  21. Some of their forty times would've been 'Did not finish.'
  22. Well he's not 270 now, that's for sure. But like you (and most people) are saying though, it's a stretch to attribute it to the weight gain when it's happened a lot before. I think he would've been fine at TE, he's pretty athletic - but the main skill of his they talked about was great blocking, so in general I like the move to the line. Just a shame he can't stay healthy, hopefully his luck turns around.
  23. True, although I don't know if any of the guys we tried to get in the second signing period would've helped this year. I'd say the best chances this year are: Tannor - has the skill set, and should be at a B1G weight now Alex Davis - on paper he's exactly what we want, just hasn't really developed into a pass rusher Ferguson - I think he's more of the cover OLB, but he'll be on the field for sure David Alston - probably a year or two away, but if he put on wright fast enough I could see him breaking out Dixon - Probably too undersized to be a consistent rusher, but could be an x-factor as an occasional blitzer Garrett Nelson - Decent size off the bat and definitely has the motor. Also here for spring ball which helps. Jamin Graham - Seems pretty raw, but athletically what we're looking for. Quayshon Alexander/Pernell Jefferson - long shots, but maybe the new staff and an extra year of S&C are what they needed. So there are definitely bodies, but as far as this year goes all of those are long shots outside of Tannor. Down the road a bit as Alston/Nelson/Graham/new guys develop behind Tannor, I feel a lot better. Pass rushing is just way more difficult in college than in high school, there aren't many guys who can jump right in as a freshman.
  24. I don't think our next great pass rusher will be a d-lineman - they want those guys big. Robinson might play a lot this year, but I wouldn't expect huge sack numbers - it's a pretty short list of 3-4 lineman who get a lot of sacks. Tannor with some weight should be intriguing, he was really light last year.
  25. We held them to 259 yards, I have a hard time even putting that one on the defense. One TD was a fumble return, and while giving up 24 wasn't up to our defense's normal standard that should've been good enough to beat TT. Agreed though, you could keep that loss and if we don't blow a coverage against VT, maybe have 7 turnovers instead of 8 (8!) against Iowa State, and any number of breaks against Texas and we would be in the mix to get crushed by Bama in the title game. Probably wouldn't have given up a lot of points, but we might have gotten shut out.
