I think this tweet has more to do with Princewill making The Athletic's 2nd team Freshman All-American team - an "I see you little bro" type of thing. But I am sure we're in contact, and I think we've got a good shot NIL or no. Supposedly a big fan of Rhule.

He's not a 1st round RB though - I don't think there will be one this year.

Yeah, I would think if you assume a second contract it would pay more in the long run to be negotiating that at 26 instead of 27 as an RB. But there's injury risk too, so might be smarter to just take the most money you can get now.

2008 was definitely a breakout year for him - several things people think were part of his Senior year (catching a TD against Kansas, pick sixes against San Jose and more famously Colorado) happened during his Junior year, with Ganz. He was first team all-conference his junior year, and it was a real possibility he'd declare for the draft. He was on a lot of preseason All-American lists going into 2009 - no one expected a Heisman-level Senior year, but he was excellent in 2008 and big things were expected.

Yeah, I was hoping he'd stick around and break out - I don't recall any problems with his play on the field other than a dumb holding on the INT return against Iowa. But we have a ton of bodies at DB so some movement was inevitable. He should do well in the portal, CBs with experience and length are hard to come by. I'd guess a Florida school will scoop him up.

I will admit sweat shops was an unnecessarily extreme example, but yeah the point is just "getting paid" doesn't mean it's anywhere close to fair. College football is a sport that makes a lot of people a lot of money, and it takes unusual skill and involves significant risks to their health. I think it's totally reasonable for players to have a much larger slice of the pie, as much as I also enjoyed when players stuck with one program.

Backup RB wants to be the bell cow for his 5th year. I wish it meant something and OSU was crumbling, but I'm telling you they are perfectly content with every one of their portal entries so far moving on. They would've liked McCord and Fleming as depth, but that's it.

What else do you call it when 72% of their plays are are credited to him (passes, runs, sacks)? Passes are different than runs in that multiple receivers are involved, but it still goes through Ward. He was their leading rusher by attempts by 31 carries. Only Hawaii had a similar situation with the QB throwing around 500 times and carrying the ball more than 100.

I agree with you in general, but one of the major injuries for TM was because his 270 lb walk-on Center got bulldozed onto his foot IIRC. And the 2018 line rounded into form pretty well once Farmer moved to Center - but for the rest of Adrian's career it was a bad line.

My board for QB, limited to those where we've reportedly talked to them: McCord - he wasn't spectacular, had an incredible supporting cast at OSU, and will not make use of the option elements we added. But Big Ten experience is extremely valuable, as is experience with elite WRs like Harrison Jr. and Egbuka when working with young, talented WRs. Howard - Has the experience, and can be an asset in the run game. We'd still scale way back on the option game, but we should trade that for a functional passing game in a heartbeat. Coming from the Big 12 gives me pause - transfer QBs have a hard time here. If you project a bite out of Howard's stats it's kinda meh - although still way better than what we had last year. Ward - He's already proven he can handle a jump in competition, but I don't think he offers as much in the run game as Howard and projecting him from the Pac-12 scares me. Might have the highest ceiling though. Shapen - Same story with the level of competition, and while he can move a bit I think he's comparable to Ward (but a worse passer) and not someone we'll use a lot of QB run game with. This is the point where I think it's conceivable Purdy could beat these guys out with a healthy offseason. Leavitt - Showed a couple flashes as a true freshman with no spring ball. Having an option beside Haarberg and Kaelin is a must, and among guys who would possily be willing to take that role and not start immediately he's a good option. Regarding the toughness of playing QB in the Big Ten - in admittedly limited action and with incredible skill talent, Hudson Card was a 65% passer with an 11/2 TD/INT ratio and 7.9 YPA at Texas. At Purdue, with decent skill talent, that was 59%, 15/8, and 6.5. The AAC is another step down but Mordecai and Bryant also saw huge decreases in their stats. There are a lot of bad QBs in this conference, but there are also a lot of average ones made to look bad.

No one outside of McCord and Fleming was going to be in their two-deep, and those two wouldn't be starting. Maybe there's something with Day too, but they are not concerned with any of the portal entries and probably encouraged most of them.

Not sure I'd call it a mass exodus, it's all playing time. McCord had a good year but was told they will be looking in the portal. He would have the opportunity to keep his job but they are swinging for a big name and he's likely going to be the backup if he stays. Fleming got passed by some younger guys. He's good, you just have to be great to play WR there. Everyone they sign is a big time recruit, so it's all "OSU loses multiple high 4-stars and 5-stars to the portal!" but McCord and Fleming are the only two I see who had significant playing time and would be contributors next year. The next biggest name is Cameron Martinez, but his role has decreased each of his 3 years there. They are all being processed/seeking more playing time they weren't going to get.

So do the kids in sweat shops, doesn't mean they're getting paid what they should. I understand wanting to focus on the entertainment side of it, and that's fair to do - it's not like we're actually deciding things on a message board. But this probably isn't the thread for you if you don't want to hear about compensation for athletes and what the fair amount is.

Not sure how it's going to help. I don't expect schools will do anything with contracts even when it's an agent, so it's promising a piece of the pie to someone else when the pie may or may not actually exist. I get wanting some guidance, I just think the ones I've seen look very predatory.

Wisconsin lands a transfer OLB, less than 24 hours he decommits and redirects everyone to his "NIL Agent." Which is a thing that should not exist IMO - I'm all for players having a choice to go somewhere else, but when you have to recruit their agent instead of them? That's crazy. Money can be the biggest factor for a player, that's fine. But it's literally going to be the only factor if you let an agent handle it all, and some guys will regret that. Tweet from the player was just deleted, but said: My agent Chris Walsh @TXRecruited will be handling all my official visits and recruitment so anything involving my recruitment please contact him Dude doesn't want you questioning how much he charges, and also can't be bothered to learn the difference between their and there. Most coach salaries are public information, so go ahead and have your guys ask.

As I recall we recruited him pretty hard out of high school, but I bet he has better options at this point (and it's not the same staff)

It's a deep room, and I think he was on his 3rd position (maybe just 2nd) already.

You also just have to find guys who don't want to be head coaches, and that's even harder than finding a good coordinator.

How many QBs in the portal wouldn't give us the best QB in the among this year's West division teams? I think that title is between Altmyer and Card at the moment, it is not a high bar.

I kinda doubt we even reach out to Ward. He's going to be very expensive, and he isn't a great fit for the system which I'm sure he knows. He might be trying to break the system QB label, but he can do that somewhere set up for him to succeed which ain't here.

He quit after being demoted to make room for an analyst moving to a full-time role. He was essentially fired.

So maybe they switch to P5 schools instead, sure. They're mostly in that 86-88 range, and IMO that's a huge gray area in the recruiting sites. A lot of guys in that range are recruited by big name schools, and a lot go to G5. It's where the guys they just don't quite know what to do with end up. It's also not so much they can't play as we don't have room to take every guy who can. You can't judge everything based on their other offers, but here are some lists: Crisp - Arkansas State, Service Academies, Iowa (assuming this is a walk-on or non-committable spot, it's an old offer) Jones - South Dakota State, Wyoming Taylor - East Carolina, Rutgers, Charlotte Gradney - SMU, Sam Houston State, Texas Tech Guthrie - Wyoming, Penn Clark - Montana, Montana State, Portland State Some of these are complicated - if it wasn't clear to Jones that his offer depended on other guys saying no, you're burning some in-state bridges turning him away. Gradney is an exceptional athlete and highly rated, but his competition was poor and no one else seems to be gambling on the traits. I think all of these guys can play, but we're at something like 16 scholarship DBs, another 6-7 guys who seem slated for DB in this class, and Rhule saying they're not going to push guys out. Maybe some of these guys play receiver, but you can't have 25% of your roster playing DB. And I don't believe we would plan to be in this position, which leads me to believe some of these guys may have jumped the gun.

I know Cooper loves his under the radar athletes, but I'm really wondering if a few guys in the WR/DB mix in this class committed without waiting for confirmation on their spot. Wouldn't shock me if a few guys currently committed don't actually sign with us and end up flipping to G5 schools between the Dec and Feb signing days. No inside info though, just the only way the numbers and offers out there make sense to me. Also wouldn't shock me if they do sign and the lower rated guys pan out the best.

Could also transfer down a level I think - not sure if that's something he would be interested in, but he could dominate and probably have some actual fun playing QB again.

I think he's a bit of a system QB, could probably still play here - but has no reason to. The people talking about McCall coming here in the past were suggesting it if we hired his OC instead of Whipple, or HC instead of Rhule. As far as I know he has no ties here. And I guess neither did Thompson or Sims, but I just don't see it.
