  1. This cancellation is not just going to hurt the big ten senior class, but many future recruitment classes. C19 is going no where and will rear its ugly head every year just like the flu season for years to come. I can almost hear the SEC, big 12, and ACC coaches now telling those recruits in their homes..."I see you are considering going to Nebraska/OSU/Wisconsin/Penn State, how will you be for sure there will be a season to play when you get there? Having to transfer will lose you a year of eligibility and could ruin your chances at the NFL. Come play at our conference, we never cancel."
  2. 50 million dollar check from the B1G and almost no expenses this year. An endowment that is somewhere in the half billion dollar range. I am sure the Athletic Department and University will be just fine. Like someone said before me, the local businesses that are taking a massive hit by this cancellation will not be fine. They are not sitting on a mountain of money like UNL Athletics is.
  3. Sad to say, but we are an afterthought in the college football world. Even the light weights have been using us as a rug. Frost had his chance to come in guns a blazing and start a new chapter in the program that everyone would respect. That opportunity has come and gone. First Frost shot off at the mouth along with Moos before a game was even played. Then we went through two years of humiliating losses and no bowl games. Now Scott and Bill threaten to schedule games this fall after the season cancellation announcement and then immediately run for the hills. Anytime that Scotty and Billy have anything to claim going forward should be met with an eye roll and a sigh. All bark and no bite.
  4. What's next you ask? Well, now it is time to watch the SEC, ACC, and Big 12 play college sports this fall. And then watch them crown a conference champion in all of their fall sports. Then watch them find a way to still play a playoff with multiple SEC teams. Then watch Alabama win another National Title. Then we will get to go through this all again early next year with Kevin Warren coming out of his basement to tell us that the Spring Season is also cancelled, but we will still play in the fall!
  5. If this turns out to be true OR IF we do not play a season in the spring while the Big 12, ACC, and SEC all play a full season this fall, than it will go down as one of the largest failures in the history of college athletics. Billions in revenue will be lost by Big Ten and Pac 12 schools and states. You can bet your a** that both the Big Ten and the PAC 12 will be getting new leadership soon after.
  6. Recap: All Pro sports are playing. Horse racing is a go. NASCAR is a go. All High School sports are playing. Jr. High sports are playing. pee-wee sports are playing. Intramural sports are playing. But....Nebraska Athletics? ...NOPE.
  7. Would be fun to play them, but would be a serious chance (70%+) of losing and maybe losing big. Not something that would help our National brand and recruitment pull, but would definitely boost them in those categories. ESPN would be salivating to scream to the world on our losing to an FCS NDSU.
  8. There is no legal grounds to remove Nebraska from the conference should we play out of conference games this fall. I believe Nebraska will be calling Kevin's bluff by scheduling games to play. This along with the SEC, ACC, and Big 12 all playing games without issue (start of the season) will force Kevin to remove his cancellation of all fall sports with a massive helping of crow pie OR move towards removing Nebraska from the conference. Everybody who knows Kevin in the sports world is saying that his ultimate goal is to be the Commissioner of the NFL and that the Big Ten is just as stepping stone for him to that end. If people believe he will not stir the pot and kick us out, you bet he will to save face and ego.
  9. I am 100% certain we schedule and play some games this fall. No way are we going to sit back and watch the ACC, SEC, and Big 12 play a full season while we sit in the corner wearing a dunce hat. Kevin and his massive ego will have to respond and will most likely move to kick us out of the Big Ten. Then the legal battle will ensue, which I think we will win (and why our leadership is being so brass in looking for games to play). I could see Nebraska going Independent for a few years before joining a super conference in the next shake-up. For the status quo fans who think this is all business as usual:
  10. Can't play any big ten teams now. Replace Iowa, Michigan, OSU, and Penn State with Colorado, Miami, USC, and Florida State.
  11. The other thread was about an independent season while remaining in the big ten. This thread is about the possibility of NU going fully Independent as a school.
  12. Our relationship has already been damaged...we stepped out of line in challenging this decision, so things are not going to improve. We have already been given the shaft for many years now in scheduling and finances. To be honest, I think the NU brass have been looking for a way to leave the conference for some time now and now have the perfect opportunity to not be the ones to pull the trigger. Now all we have to do is schedule some games this fall and the rest will take care of itself. We will sue for lost contract money and will easily win. Then we will declare as an Independent. We make the rules. We make the schedules (NO OSU!). We get all the TV revenue for our televised games.
  13. All valid points. The big ten does not have any legal leverage in regards to non-conference games. We do not get permission from the Big Ten conference to play non-conference opponents for they all are contractual obligations between the school (NU) and the opponent only. If they move to kick us out of the conference because we schedule and play non-conference games, then they are liable to be sued BIG TIME. I believe the words of Kevin Warren are a total bluff and Frost and Moos are calling it. They have no legal grounds to kick us out of the conference and everybody knows it. They may still move to kick-us out, but it will cost them their arm, leg and both kidneys.
  14. They won't. The Big 12 would rather burn their conference to the ground, than miss an opportunity such as this...to play a season while Nebraska sits and watches.
  15. This is not a drill. This is not a joke. The Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren just drew the line in the sand: https://247sports.com/college/nebraska/Article/Nebraska-Huskers-football-2020-Big-Ten-Kevin-Warren-150177515/ If we play non-conference games this fall for football which is what Frost and Bill have been hinting at for some time now, we will be kicked out of the Big Ten. Here is how this is going to play out should we move forward with playing football games this fall (which to be honest, looks VERY likely): We are going to schedule and play some non-conference football games this fall. The Big Ten is going to excommunicado us out of the conference. Nebraska will then sue the Big Ten for lost revenue due from our contract. Our contract does NOT give the Big Ten any authority to remove us from the conference for playing out-of-conference games. We will easily win this legal battle and will be given our full share for the remainder of the TV contract until 2023. We will then also sue for punitive damages and losses. We might win this case, and be awarded additional years of full or partial shares from the Big Ten after 2023 or additional money from now until 2023. Nebraska will declare itself as an Independent. Nebraska will sign an exclusive deal with Pay-per-view and will continually smash records as fans from all over the nation tune in. Nebraska will sign an exclusive deal with Fox Sports to televise our games that are not picked-up by Pay-per-view. When the next massive conference realignment comes along, we will evaluate our options. But to be honest, being your own boss is kinda awesome. For the nay-sayers please consider these points: Nebraska has NO pro sports. Many other states in the B1G DO have pro sports. Not having any athletics for a fall season will be devastating to Nebraska's local economy. Those in charge at NU are fully aware of this...especially the local donors who pay for everything. Other states may cruise through this just fine, but we will not be fine. This decision today literally cost the state of Nebraska millions upon millions of dollars in lost local business revenue. Many businesses who are on their last leg right now will now not survive because of this decision. What do you think Plan B was if the Big Ten rejected our application (which by the way they made us literally crawl through their doggy door and beg) when we applied? We certainly were not going to crawl back to the Big 12! Going Independent has been on the table for longer than you think. FREEDOM is priceless. Crawling back to the Big 12 as many (Big 12 fans) have pointed out on Twatter is NEVER going to happen. We may play some of their teams this fall or in the near future, but trust me, the people in charge at Nebraska would rather eat their own excrement than crawl back to the Texas Conference. Ever since we joined the Big Ten, we have been given the hardest schedules. We have not even been recognized in the name of the conference. We have had to pay more than Maryland and Rutgers did when they joined. Time and time again, we get the shaft, while other teams that have been in the conference (THE TEN) longer than us get the red carpet treatment. We went through this same BS in the Big 12, that is why we left. Do you honestly think things are now going to improve now that we 'stepped out of line' and challenged the conference regarding this shutdown decision? We are not fans of corruption...When asked regarding pulling his son out of the SEC football season, the Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren did not respond. I apologize for the book, but there is a lot to unpack here. I fully believe we will be playing games this fall and that we are wanting to be kicked out of the Big Ten, so we can gain our freedom AND get paid. You can bet your 401K Bill and the NU top brass are talking to their army of lawyers right about now. In going Independent, we have the fan support to pull it off. We have the connections to get games scheduled easily (who would NOT want the largest traveling college fan base to come and spend money at their stadium/city??). We are sick and tired of being treated as second-class by the conference we belong to. Everything is not always about money and freedom is priceless. Nebraska going Independent in my humble opinion is not a matter of if, but when. And the 'when' is now. Big 12 = Big 10 < Independence (+Still Getting Paid)
  16. The Big 12 has got to be loving this right now. All the teams that left them in the dust are not playing this fall while they will be playing. Looking like the ACC and Big 12 will be playing. The SEC will most likely also play. The PAC12 and B1G will look like the biggest suckers in the history of sports in this nation. How are we going to play two seasons in one year? How is next spring some how safer than this fall? The virus is going no where.
  17. Same can be said for the B1G. OSU is the only team in our current conference who has a yearly shot at a National Title. A case can be made for Wisconsin, Penn State, and Michigan...but lets be honest here...they are all slightly above mediocre. Put any of those three teams against the likes of Alabama and Clemson and other heavy weights and they would get slaughtered. They would fair no better than Oklahoma State, Iowa, and Kansas State.
  18. The University Presidents are in charge of this decision and there is a solid chance that very few of them played athletic sports while in college or high school. There is also a very solid chance that they were envious of the spotlight and priority that athletes received while they were in college and high school. The nerds became the Chancellors and Presidents while the jocks became the Athletic Directors and Coaches. Translation? You can bet your a** the Presidents are going to crash the athletics plane into the side of the mountain. The irony is that the academics will be taking a major hit as well for college sports give a ton of money to the academics side of the University. But in the eyes of the nerds it is worth the cost. Remember all of those wedgies and bullying you dished out jocks? To answer the question posed by this thread......very soon. I look forward to seeing what games UNL schedules. I hope they set up a game with UNK. No matter the cost, I would go to that game.
  19. What the Geographical Footprint of the Great Plains Conference would look like (can add Dakota teams once their schools get a little bigger):
  20. Memorial Stadium/the ground it sits on and all that jazz is owned by the University of Nebraska. Not sure how you 'go pro' with a college athletics team and facilities. We could start our own conference with the HQ in Kansas City. That I could get behind. Lets say this BS continues on to next year and they cancel 2021 as well. And in the mean time we start playing teams in the local area and start to build relationships with them. I could fantasize about us bolting from the B1G (and eternally losing to OSU) and putting together a NEW Great Plains Conference (HQ in Kansas City) which would have the following members: Iowa Iowa State Kansas Kansas State Oklahoma Oklahoma State Tulsa Wyoming Colorado Colorado State Air Force This is a dream conference for Nebraska fans. Travel is super easy. Traditions easy to establish with long histories already in play. Would eventually get our own Great Plains network going. No more East Coast bias. Would be the dream.
  21. The speculation is rampant right now. There are online articles out there that are saying the B1G already canceled the season and that there WAS a 12-2 vote by Presidents.
