  1. I never said he wasn't he wasn't successful as a runner. I just said that in my opinion, QB draw has been our most consistently successful offensive play.
  2. I see, do you have a break down of that between read option, QB draw, scrambles, etc?
  3. Yea I understand we run a lot of read option as well but wouldn't say it has been as successful either.
  4. Yes sir and I'm not dissing on it other than I think we've relied on it way too heavily due to lack of success with anything else. A.) Like you said, huge injury risk and if Martinez goes in I"m not confident we can have the same season with our number 2 right now. B.) Martinez has put the ground on the ball quite a bit and that's not a even a knock on him. Running the QB that much you're more likely to fumble.
  5. QB draw seems like the only play we've been able to consistently rely on for a while, hopefully that changes.
  6. Safe to say Frost is pissed!
  7. I wasnt talking about Clemson and Oklahoma. I don’t watch them every week. Do they have to adjust their play calls a lot for their number two QB? I bet they they probably hang their hat on the same things regardless of who’s behind center but like I said I don’t watch them enough to know. We can’t say the same thing because we haven’t found things that work for us consistently (like you said we haven’t been very good). But also we’ve recruited very different types of players for the same offense . I’m not saying we aren’t trying to establish an identity in just saying that we haven’t done it yet. (In my opinion.) Now go ahead and pick that apart because it really seems like you go out of your way to try to contradict whatever I say.
  8. I know what you mean but also don’t think it’s 100% true. My point was the skill set of Haarberg and Torres is a bit different than McCaffery and Smothers. It may indicate that they may have shifted their philosophy a bit. Or it may mean nothing at all.
  9. Stills, Jurgens, Allen were all coming to NU no matter who the coach was and you could probably put JoJo in that group as well. Also I don’t expect to see DiCaprio Bootle on the field much for us next week.
  10. One thing I still don’t like is we still haven’t established an offensive identity. If Smothers comes in we are probably going to adjust our offense vs if Haarberg comes in. Wisconsin, Iowa, and Ohio State don’t have to adjust their offense for their QB’s. That being said Torres resembles Haarberg much more than Smothers. Could be coincidence that the best guy they could get two years in a row are big athletic guys with strong arms or maybe they’ve figured out those kind of QBs will be better suited in the B1G. I think this is the case and they actually prefer Haarberg’s skill set if they believe he can make the correct reads/decisions.
  11. I think the prototype for Smothers is McKenzie Milton. If you can make good reads and make quick, smart decisions he could have a ton of success in this offense without a big arm. He is extremely athletic so he could still be very dangerous I just hope he’s not McCaffery 2.0. Haarberg reminds me of Josh Allen. Big, strong arm and pretty athletic but he is obviously very raw. In my opinion he has an NFL ceiling but will take years to develop. If he beats Smothers out, Smothers most certainly transfers so he’s probably QB3 no matter what this year. In years past I’d be very concerned about depth but in this day and age if we need a QB we will almost certainly hit the transfer market and at minimum get somebody decent. Hopefully we have some success and Adrian shows out and we can get a big time QB like Raiola for 2023.
  12. Lol I'm so tired I looked at that as CTB and Newsome not realizing what thread I was in. I need some sleep.
  13. If we start the season 1-3 we’ll have moved on to the coaching search thread.
  14. But didn’t say anything about texts or e-mails.
  15. I certainly agree there is no need to indulge in any of the details of it. I only acknowledged that those rumors would be much more damaging if any were proved to be true.
  16. Not that I'm disagreeing with you but if these same rumors were floating around about the head coach of a rival school. We'd be blowing it up and roasting the s#!t out of them...
  17. Yea I was also hearing some things about this and agree with you. Those kind of distractions could be a much bigger issue than what we're reading about today...
  18. Dang this is one I had high hopes for. He was a project but I liked the idea of taking a bigger athletic tight end and making him a tackle but have never really heard his named mentioned as making any waves in the OL room. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Michael Lynn move on from that class.
  19. Chinander is always my favorite interview. It wouldn't surprise me to see him start getting some looks for HC opportunities if we have a really good defensive unit the next couple years.
  20. Seems like a lot of teams have success with it.
  21. I used to lurk over on that board solely to read posts by ShortSideOption. He posted tons of great analysis as well as some good inside info. There is a moderator over there that seems to be on a huge power trip and comes off like a douche and SSO probably offended him but it would be like this board banning @Mavric for comparison.
  22. Pryzstup and Cerni. We’re seeing multiple positions where guys that have started are now down the depth chart, we are getting better!
  23. I don’t know man that Miami game in 2014 was electric!!
