  1. So it seems as if, based on what people are saying here, under circumstances largely out of his control Alberts made and followed through on a tough and unpopular decision that ended up proving ultimately to be very beneficial for the athletics department? And some people are mad about it? Like if you were a big-time UNO football or wrestling head I completely get being upset, but otherwise I'm having a hard time understanding how this is supposed to be a bad thing or reason for concern.
  2. Hey call me crazy but personally I like watching Nebraska play football and would have enjoyed seeing them play another game.
  3. A lot of outsiders/national media people seem to be painting Alberts as some meathead old-boys-club guy who isn't competent because he said dumb stuff on College Football Live almost 15 years ago. Seems to be ignoring 12 years as a good AD at a Division I school but hey I don't think we should waste too much time on what they think if they're going to insist on interpreting everything our program does uncharitably.
  4. There are other people I think I would have rather had but I don't think there's any way you can call a 12-year Division I AD who navigated a change in NCAA division and went through a major facilities construction "unqualified".
  5. Drinkwitz is a snake-oil salesman who has left everywhere he's been on bad terms. They're doing well in recruiting now but that's not going to hold up once the reality on the field catches up or he leaves for a better job at the first opportunity.

  7. Kansas would be thrilled to be 12-20 against our schedule the last three years. I say that as a KU alum who watches almost every game. KU would have beaten SE Louisiana his first year and maybe NIU his second and would have zero other wins or even probably close games. But on topic I think these "If SF weren't a Nebraska guy, he'd be fired by now!" arguments are incredibly specious. He would not have considered this job had he not been a Nebraska guy. He was given time to turn this around because he's a Nebraska guy. You can't just ignore that when you want to make a point about his record. It's like, "We all know Thing X is true. But if Thing X weren't true then this situation would be totally different!"
  8. Basketball signed it's one good recruit because his brother was already on the team. I have no idea why people use that as some sort of significant indicator of anything. It's cool it happened but it's probably not anything more than a fluke!
  9. I would also argue that Adrian's raw numbers are a lot better if he's throwing to Quincy Enunwa, Kenny Bell, and Jordan Westerkamp and handing off to Rex and Ameer. I think he's probably our best QB since TMart if not back to Ganz or Zac Taylor.
  10. Can't imagine being a fan of any sports team and not being excited/optimistic about the upcoming season. Why invest the time to just be intentionally miserable?
  11. Based on nothing but pure confidence in his talent I think Betts is starting by the end of the year.
  12. If a wealthy donor wanted to do this and felt it was worth their investment, either from a marketing or "help the program" perspective, it's entirely within their right. That's how free-market capitalism works.
  13. I remember the 2013 UCLA game when we ran the same toss-sweep four times in a row. I don't think not calling what was working was his problem.
  14. I don't think we appreciated how good those Beck offenses were in the rushing department. Say what you will about him but he knew how to design a run game. **ducks behind couch before tomatoes hit me**
  15. If we look like we have talent to compete with anyone and then we play badly, I will be a lot more critical of Frost. To this point it hasn't happened. I think Osborne would agree that the talent hasn't been there (as he's was talking about this upcoming season in that quote and not previous seasons). Thank you for inventing my hypothetical response and then getting mad at it, though. That gave me a chuckle!
  16. I agree, why don't our coaches just solve all the team's problems by magically getting good players, calling perfect plays, and not being b!^@hes
  17. I generally do agree with the point you're making about our fan support keeping our program's floor high and that the doom-and-gloom crowd isn't able to see the big picture, but I think we are at a disadvantage over a place like pre-Saban Alabama or current Texas because both those schools can throw a stone out their window and hit a dozen four-stars while we're located in the middle of Nebraska. It is a lot harder for NU to be good than those school; even when we were in the 80s and 90s it was because we found inefficiencies to exploit like S&C and the option. I'm not saying it can't happen again but just going "Alabama did it, so we can, too" doesn't track with me because it's always been harder for Nebraska to be good than other elite programs that have an easier time recruiting.
  18. I mean ... OK, sure, if the team ends up being late-Riley dumpster fire bad like what you're describing a few years ago then people might peace out when the weather gets cold. But I don't think that's the reasonable expectation right now and if the team is even average this year Husker fans are coming out in droves to watch the games in person.
  19. No, they're not. Our fanbase, which wanted to see football games so badly last year during a pandemic it tried to blow up our conference, hasn't seen a game in person in 18 months. Memorial is going to be packed to the gills this year. LMAO who are these dudes. Do you guys even like Nebraska? Or do you just like getting performatively mad about Nebraska?
  20. Has anyone seen the new season of I Think You Should Leave yet, and if so how many shirts from Dan Flashes have you bought?
  21. *I say something dumb and everyone gets mad at me* "Wow, I am truly the contrarian truth-teller these people need!"
  22. IDK, wanting to end something unique and cool that lots of people enjoy because you're mad that others aren't as narcissistic as you seems like way bigger baby behavior to me. It's sports. It's supposed to be fun. Let people enjoy things instead of needing to do some weird performative punishment.
  23. I think we would all agree the recruiting has not been where we probably need it this year. Some factors that caused that were reasonably within Frost's control (being 12-20), some factors weren't (not having in-person visits for a year-and-a-half, in-state kids wanting to leave the state). It's unfortunate, but I tend to not think it's that big of a deal as this was always probably going to be a weak class for us because of the pandemic, this staff has shown it can recruit well, and recruiting ratings are wildly out of whack this year with the lack of in-person scouting/camps. But bottom line, a lot of the extraneous stuff we're getting concerned about is moot. The recruiting and AD concerns go away if we just win some games and show progress this year. If we don't win some games then Frost is probably coaching for his job next year and we're probably starting over anyway. At this point, everything more or less boils down to the team improving on the field in 2022. If we win, the recruits will come back and the AD won't have to consider a change. If we don't, I think people will really start doubting the efficacy of Frost's vision at that point and he's probably sunk either way.
  24. Not being able to leverage our best recruiting tactic until a month ago because of a once-in-a-generation pandemic also has something to do with that.
