  1. I certainly hope you're correct. WHen I see Iowa at #1 for TO margin and NU at 81. Special Teams- Iowa usually in the top 10- NU at 100+. That concerns me. At the end of the day- we need to be comfortably ahead- they seem to have that Sooner Magic thing going on when it comes to how things turn out late in the game.
  2. Exactly my point. Iowa is winning because they are a turnover generating machine. Offensively they don't turn it over hence their TO margin being tops in the country. Pretty good D- not so much on the O. Like you- I think Iowa is over rated. Would love to see Iowa come in here undefeated and have their luck finally run out. Unfortunately their strengths play really well into our weaknesses.
  3. No, that wasn't very clear. I hope AM sticks around. If not- go to the Portal and see if you can pick up another QB. Not enough data on Smothers or Haarberg- not really impressed by either. But we've seen how important good QB play is in this offense and most years there have also been injury issues.
  4. The top 5 seem to be doing pretty well despite issues with other parts of their teams. Got to like Iowa, Oregon and Cincy in the top 5. Kent is 3-1 also: 1 Iowa 6 4 16 20 3 2 5 15 2.50 2 Oregon 5 4 9 13 1 1 2 11 2.20 3 Kent St. 6 4 12 16 2 2 4 12 2.00 4 Middle Tenn. 6 10 8 18 3 4 7 11 1.83 5 Cincinnati
  5. Obscure statistical rankings may make some feel better about their thoughts on their favorite teams. However Wins Losses- Points for Points Against and Turnovers are what matters most. https://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/27 48th in Offense https://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/28 22nd in Defense https://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/29/p2 NU is 81st In Turnover Margin
  6. Transfer Portal But unless AM puts up crazy numbers- one would think his best opp to earn would be through NIL. He gets his Masters and has good income- little nest egg to allow for some flexibility in what he wants to do after he leaves.
  7. https://saturdaytradition.com/nebraska-football/flip-alert-nebraska-lands-pledge-from-in-state-ath-previously-committed-to-kansas-state/?fbclid=IwAR2pXh8tmfRG3SjqzuvyHsPD6J1PU1aB2jF3dO4ttfWFEbJ6ix243z1a2_s
  8. HCSF will not be fired unless there is some type of major implosion/collapse between right now and the end of the season. Progress has been made, that is evident. The 2022 and 2023 Schedules stack up in a way where NU would probably be favored in 7-8 of those games. Several toss- ups and maybe a game or two where NU is a bit of a dog. A pretty friendly schedule one would think. This would give HCSF a chance to get some firmer ground to stand on and then start to recruit more effectively from that ground.
  9. Agreed You grade out your coaching staff- or team by letter grade and seek to invest money and precious coaching spots to address areas that are underperforming Over the long haul, we seem to consistently have issues with our Offensive Line and Special Teams for starters. If you had to rate our recruiting- it probably has been about a B. Whereas other areas of our team have been D or F+. Would seem to make sense to shore up the areas that are poorly performing. AND our Dline has been pretty solid, we don't need to make changes there. ALSO the game has changed. It may make better sense to address our personnel needs in the portal a bit more than we have in the past.
  10. Maybe At NU- Watson was very respectfully helped to the door by helping him find another paying gig. Banker was tossed out like a drunk through a Wild West 1884 saloon. Bohl was shown the door here etc- Lots of fan pressure on those. Happens all over the place it seems.
  11. Agreed- the better coached Oline teams you see doing this all the time. AND even going downfield on a pass play AFTER the ball has been released. Obviously you have to walk before running, but pushing the pile should be fairly instinctive- coached- held accountable to. In HS- you are not allowed to assist the ballcarrier. You don't see it called a lot though.
  12. First play Not sure Ive seen a more egregious offensive holding against Daniels. Nice tackle by the Center- he should look at playing DT
  13. Not so sure With 83 pulling wide- lots of space and a lead blocker there. There is an unblocked man right in the area he chose to run to.
  14. Well coaching never made any difference on my income level- so not much at all. I know a few guys who have- not mid game but made changes because they really wanted to stay in coaching at that location. Some of the changes may have been more for perception value. In other areas of the country- yes a guy in PA I know really well changed from an offense he believed in and had coached for 20 years= was pretty successful with- to something the fans were clamoring for. His teaching job tied into his coaching gig and he didnt want to move.
  15. Just posing the question, I certainly dont know. One would think that they would have known Luke was terrible as a QB from the way he practiced and wasn't a better choice than AM.
  16. Agreed. How about of late? Very few WR smoke screens or RB swing passes- after fans went full BBQ on how many bad ones we ran last season. It's always been a big part of HCSF offense ? Starting Luke? (bad choice- I didnt support) True Attention to Special Teams? Do they feel the pressure- or is it always just a coincidence? Callahan went so far as to conjure up the fallacy that we were going to run the ball a bunch- remember "Pound the Rock"?
  17. AM has pretty good vision on most plays. On the fumble- he didnt
  18. Husker Hounds in Omaha has the largest, deepest and most unique selection of Husker stuff.
  19. That was awful- IIRK there were a bunch of former players at that game on the field in pre game for something. It was something like 35-0 at the half- our players acted like they didnt want to be there. We left- so did about 2/3 of our fans. It was like a funeral procession, no one really complaining, just sullenly leaving.
  20. Maybe so, I'm not in that circle. Just seems like there has been some movement in the direction the fans seem to clamor for here- like elsewhere. Coincidence or not.
  21. Does their FG kicker have any eligibility left for College? He's 11-14 with a long of 48- would love to have that guy. OTOH our fan base closes their eyes, holds their breath and prays to baby Jesus on every PAT and says those same prayers that we never have to kick a FG Their Special Teams are ranked 8th in the NFL- a one game aberration doesn't mean a consistent "mess" . Now if over the last 4 years they were consistently ranked say in the bottom 10% - then you might be correct- that would seem to be a systemic issue- if you're a Colts fan. Nice try though https://www.lineups.com/nfl-team-rankings/special-teams
  22. He's got something AM doesn't have- an overtime- first down, touchdown, game winning drive, win https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/32385176/down-19-points-qb-lamar-jackson-rallies-baltimore-ravens-comeback-win-indianapolis-colts
  23. Yes, it seems his "no fear of failure" thing has been tweaked a bit to include some accountability. You can hear it in the way he talks and the changes he's made in starters.
  24. Interestingly enough- 3.5 years of epically bad special teams- people all over it, pitchforks in the air and the last 2 games- not any real issues. So looks like maybe what was wrong maybe was fixable and has just been more or less fixed in the last 2 games. Minus FG kicking- which is still a crap shoot. Was that lip service we got for the past 3.5 years that special teams was important? And magically was cured overnight? A geometric progression that all of a sudden just broke through? Or maybe they really did start to invest significant time, effort, energy into making our special teams Not so darn awful. Glad for the turnaround- disappointed it wasn't addressed earlier.
  25. The same can be said of our possessions just prior to the half. We often times look like we have little sense of urgency with the confusion of a little league team in their first game after 2 weeks of practice. We sometimes see the same thing on critical 3rd and 4th down plays- the play coming in very late and seemingly with confusion. One of the reasons we are ranked 106th in red zone efficiency and 84th in offensive efficiency. In the CLUTCH we just struggle and the numbers support that contention. Its been pretty consistent. Move the ball all up and down the field- we have GREAT/AMAZING numbers for that- but when it matters - when it really COUNTS we do NOT. https://www.teamrankings.com/college-football/stat/red-zone-scoring-pct
