  1. That's more than the AD will handle, ADs have a lot on their plate, anything more than the singular bell cow program is passed to Assistant ADs. Even then most Assistant ADs will handle 3-4 sports and that's about it. EDIT And at a place like Nebraska, the AD isn't the day to day report even for the bell cow program. You will have one of the Assistant ADs work with FB only. Another work with MBB, maybe the golf teams. Another will be WBB and something like XC/T&F. Another will be wrestling/W. Soccer/bowling etc. Every Assistant AD will have multiple teams/Admin support for the department. And all will give reports to the AD, but the AD will not be the primary person for any sport.
  2. I get they do stuff like this, but I was more saying how much impacts the AD and the athletic department as a whole. This doesn't *help* get athletes to sign with the school, but more importantly won't hurt the Athletic side of the fence. That's where there is less direct interference. Some may argue what is happening with the President here isn't directly related to Athletics either. The issue is the AD had no upper leadership and he had inconsistent support (conflicting support from people between the BoR and interim President) from above, he brought up the issues and frustrations with this and it wasn't being resolved and was only getting worse.
  3. I don't see them eliminating smaller conference auto-bids, I see them expanding to 128 and adding another weekend to the tournament.
  4. Only the big-time boosters, I'm sure they could find one in the right age range who is a low level booster/donor that they could wine and dine...or maybe even the daughter of a big-time booster.
  5. While texas is a red state on a national scale, the political meddling (from what a former colleague says who works at a small state school) is fairly minimal. He says there are enough opposing electorates at the state/local level to help balance it out so it doesn't sway too far in either direction for state universities.
  6. I think the Eagles won the Barkley for Stoll trade.
  7. True, I just picked the names people here would recognize. A lot of unintended consequences to this power struggle that general public doesn't see and don't realize. Loss of professors, inability to recruit good professors, the brain drain is real and will be devastating. The current desire to squash this 'woke' movement in academia is major problem in the not too distant future and is already having some very unsavory side effects. A lot of leopards will be full on faces.
  8. My daughter, a senior in HS this year, is taking 5. And she was wanting to drop one at semester.
  9. Not sure he's the "biggest" issue. There's been a power struggle between the university and the governor's office since before Pillen. Current governor has hinted at harsher arm twisting than his predecessor, who opted to try and get his people into power positions at the university to get his way instead of brute force of do it my way or get a lot less money. Not to go too far into the political realms, over the last 15-20 years there's been a growing shift to avoid collaboration and moving towards 'one of us must win and one of us must lose' mentality. The struggle between the university system and local government is how progressive state schools should be and if those ideas/goals don't mesh with the controlling party, why should they get the funding they want? The focus is on winning instead of focusing on what's best for everyone. Pillen is no different with that philosophy, he just has a different tactic to get those results. And frankly, a lot of people believe in what he wants overall without thinking of the consequences of those decisions. The 'brain drain', Trev, Carter et al are just the cost of the power struggle between the two, until the state start moving back to a more collaborative effort, the struggle will continue.
  10. He's not going to make it public knowledge, as we know through the FB coaching search, he keeps things very close the vest, what you see in the public or in the office is VERY different than what he was feeling. He's not going to burn any bridges by making his frustrations public. He will go public when decisions are finalized, whether the public likes the decision or wants to know where he's at in the process doesn't matter. He went through the proper channels, expressed his concerns; not saying those comments went on deaf ears, but disfunction was unable to do anything to even address his concerns. He wants to be happy and aligned with where he works. He started looking privately, has been looking for long time, hoping that things would get resolved here. Things have only gotten worse over time and he accepted an offer where he feels comfortable and sees cohesion.
  11. From people I know close-ish to the situation, the regents have had 3-4 people they wanted to offer the President position to, Pillen felt those candidates were too liberal ("too woke" was the quote used) and mentioned funding would be more challenging if they went that route. They are now having difficulty agreeing on a qualified candidate conservative enough for Pillen to ensure funding doesn't become an issue. So, with no permanent President in place, behind the scenes above Trev has been, from the way it was described to me "a complete and utter ish-show with no end in sight". Issues started before Trev was in place, but people above him shielded him from the chaos. That shield is gone and as of yesterday's conversations, has no replacements in sight. Trev has been unhappy for a long time with what has been going on from a university leadership standpoint and has wanted out for more than a year, not a lot of options on where he was willing to go, but he was going to take the first offer he could. He had been actively looking for options since around Jan. 2023, and expressed his concerns, through appropriate channels on several occasions. He made sure everything he did publicly was positive. The only way he would have stayed is if the regents and governor agreed to a person that was going to be forward thinking, and that's not happening anytime soon. Position may be filled soon-ish, but not by a forward thinking candidate.
  12. You'd think the interim president could, but what good AD would want to come here when leadership is in such a cluster?
  13. Bears are in a good spot to trade down/swap firsts, acquire a second and still get a stud QB and WR. Swap first with the Giants, get a second for dropping. Allow the Giants to swing and miss with Caleb and the Bears could do what the Dolphins and Eagles did and pair the QB with teammate WR and get Penix and Odunze. And the eventual move to get more assets by trading Fields. Test the waters with Pittsburgh and get a future 4th for him, or see who misses getting one of the other studs (Daniels, Mayes, Nix (another bust IMO), Pratt and McCarthy (BUST)) and see what assets you can get for him. Get the best C in the second round and the Bears could fill all their holes with smart moves this draft. Then load up on OLine and DLine for the rest of the draft and get spend wisely the rest of FA period. Do this, they are right in the mix with Detroit and GB for the division.
  14. Caleb Williams will be the Ryan Leaf of this draft. Bears should go for Jayden Daniels if they keep the 1. This is a deep QB draft, they can trade down, acquire a 2nd round pick and still get a stud QB. Penix will probably still be available at 9, and IMO, is the second or third best QB in this draft
  15. Depending on Steph's ankle, GS will be an easy out, Minnesota, while not an "easy" out, losing KAT, they are a second round exit team at best now and depending on how far they slide, could be a first round L against Pelicans. I do feel the team coming out the West will be either OKC or Denver. Denver with about a 70% chance of winning the conference and then hopefully embarrasing those guys from the New England area
  16. I hope Tyson tries, unlike the fight he did against Roy Jones Jr. If he tries, we could all witness the death of Jake Paul. And for that, I'm excited.
  17. Thrust into the limelight at 17, had arguably the most expectations placed on him (maybe Wemby can make that claim now) and has lived up to, and maybe even exceeded, the hype. Seems to be a loving father and a loving, faithful husband. Gives back to the communities in which he lives and always gives back to Akron/Cleveland, even when he's not there. Seems to be a great role model. His biggest misstep is 'The Decision' and not sure who the driving force was for that. LeBron seems to be a great guy. I really hope we never hear stories that destroy his image.
  18. With the BigXII interested in adding basketball only schools, wonder if the BigTen would be interested in that as well? The BigTen is arguably the best football and volleyball conference currently, now they can make a run at being the best football/basketball/volleyball conference. Maybe add a Gonzaga and Creighton and go to pods for all non-football sports and give those 2 schools a quarter share. Gonzaga would say yes, have 4 travel partners and some closer games and get more money. I would think the same for Creighton. Play each team in your pod home-home yearly and then once against every other pod rotation home and away. And lets face it, a home/home with Creighton in both basketball and volleyball would be great for the state. I'm sure basketball fans in Washington and Oregon would love home/home with Gonzaga. Plus the fun of Dana Altman returning to Creighton. Pods: UCLA/USC/Oregon/Washington/Gonzaga Nebraska/Creighton/Iowa/Minnesota/Wisconsin Northwestern/Illinois/Purdue/Indiana/Ohio St Michigan St/Michigan/Penn State/Maryland/Rutgers A lot more short trips for each school in non-revenue sports (I don't believe either Gonzaga have opponents they could bus to, now they could have at least 2 each which is another incentive for those two programs), would add good rivalries in non-football sports and add 2 premier teams in basketball and another good team for volleyball. It would add revenue to the conference through more teams in post-season play for conference in a variety of sports and would help off-set the quarter share that the two new schools would get. BigTen tournament could be 12 (or 20 depending on the number of participants in that sport, basketball would be 20) with winner of each pod getting a 1st round bye. Could be a win for the conference without having to stretch to get some even more distant football teams (looking at you Florida St and Texas A&M) in the conference. And then there is still the chance of adding more football conference schools, by adding ND, Stanford, Cal and UConn which would bolster both the football and basketball dominance without having to extend travel much for the non-revenue sports.
  19. Wendy's may have backed down, but with so many industries (Hotel, ride services, airlines, etc) already doing this, the seed has been planted for fast food and it's only a matter of time before someone else starts doing it. If a place like McD starts, it'll be a quick trickle down to the other fast food places. The biggest reason this failed was Wendy's isn't the top dog. McD would be able to manage decrease sales for the very short term and then when everyone else jumps in, it'll become the new normal. I'd guess it would take 2-3 months before Wendy's, BK etc start trickling in and then eventually consumers would have no choice but to deal with flex pricing.
  20. Why are octopi killing people? And what people are in deep enough ocean that an octopus could get them and assume drown them? I don't like the premise of this movie at all. I'm about to go give it a 1* review saying how unrealistic this is/S
  21. Hopefully this will give offenses enough time to adjust the play call so we can stop seeing the entire team turn to look at the new play call after the defense is set.
  22. It probably could, but she's very philanthropic, so I have no issue with her using a small portion of her money on what she chooses.
  23. I wish anyone I ever dated would have given me $500K for a wardrobe upgrade.
  24. I got 4 upper bowl roughly center court seats. Looking forward to it.
  25. The 3 stripes...since we are an adidas school?
