  1. Some of the said... rings true. We do have to compete for players that fit in better for our system in place now that were previously basically offlimits. Such as pocket QBs and big time receivers that thrive in passing attacks. The book is still out on those other points. Never say never really. Some of those things about competing he could erase NU's name out and put in ISU's and then those statements sound more realistic (seeing ISU has never contended for a NC let alone a conference championship that I can remember).
  2. Hmmmm... You can always go and find another coach that can come in and recruit like hell. The reruits won't come is overplayed and not neccessarily true. BC has come in and had success right away in terms of recruiting. That alone tells you this thinking is a old wives tale.
  3. At first I thought it was too long. Lets don't forget, BC had only been a HC for 2 seasons with mixed results before arriving here. I thought a 6 yr contract was pretty lofty. 4 yrs sounded more appropiate to me at the time for a relatively inexperienced HC with no collegiate HC experience. Plus we hadn't signed coaches for that long in the past. Now days after seeing what has transpired so far in the BC era, I no longer feel that strongly. I do however still think the book is still out on this crew. Its not like we have been ranked week in and out the last 3 yrs. Plus you don't hear his name mentioned by the media about being a candidate here or there nor see other schools actually knocking down his door to lure him away to lead their programs to the promise land. When those things happens... you know you have a winner. Big yr for BC. Extention talk will rise again by the end of season. He needs to have a good season to make it possible me thinks. Otherwise wait another yr before making any decision in that dept. Get back in that CC game, avoid another 5 loss season, win a bowl and have us ranked and he can sign on that dotted line. If we have another season like last... hard decisions are on the horizon, and some of the shine on the love affair with the admn will dull. Just being realistic and only my opinion of course.
  4. A good number of players have summer finals on Thursday so it was a excellent move for those guys. One good thing about the new facillities though... if the weather doesn't cooperate... they can move indoors (most practices have been held there so far anyway).
  5. Bah!!! We will show up anyway looking to buy tickets off of scalpers like a crack addict looking for a dealer to get a fix.
  6. I seen today where Cos has been experimenting with a few new looks such as new 3 and 4 man fronts, 5 LB sets, nickel and dime looks and disquised defensive looks and sets. These are some things I heard many fans were clamoring for last yr but we got the "we are going to play the best 11" routine where he shunned special pass pkgs. I wondered what has made him do a turnabout in scheme thinking?
  7. I'm predicting a season close to what we did last yr. Hopefully though we win either the conf title or our bowl game. We lose both of them, the same sentiments that befell FS will start plaguing BC. 5 loss seasons just don't cut it around here for long. Injuries will be huge this yr and if we can show effective depth (especially on defense) if and when they do occur, we will be alright. I'm thinking a 4 or 5 loss season. Win a bowl game , we will be ranked and ppl all over will be saying we are making progress...
  8. Neva forget the past... Its what has made this program respectable today. Don't worry about what others think of us. Many of them have not been where we have gone. Besides a great NU playa once was playing for it all in the orange bowl. He was making a comeback after a devastating injury and didn't fare too well on his comeback after a long wait on the DL. He was benched in favor of another who had played well in his absence. This player however got another chance that day to help bring his team back. When he was summoned to play again... he ran on the field but was stopped by a opposing lineman who in his own right is at least a 5 time pro bowler these days. This player shouted at our hero "Hey Tommie ... where ya been?". His answer was "its not where I've been... its where I'm going fatboy". (Tommie Frazier and Warren Sapp in 1995 orange bowl) That my friends is the mentality we need at this point. Still we never ever forget how we got here... and what has us so passionate about our main men in scarlet and cream. I can't put it any simplier...
  9. For starters, it wasn't a Jayhawk fan that wrote this post. It was a KSU backer. I just wanted to seperate the facts from the BS. Which I knew clearly by reading the post there was some BS. I just wanted to get the facts straight. I take offense to that stateme and hope the moderator says something to you about it. We'll see how Gay my hawks are when your team comes to Lawrence. Lets see u are a KSUcks fan who says "We'll see how Gay my hawks are when your team comes to Lawrence." Make up yer mind. Either u are a KU fan or not. Don't ride the fence. There is a rivalry between the two ya know. You kind of set yourself up with that bandwagon mentality... Rooting for both... Both in the same conference... same division. Kind of gay with a capital G IMO. Sugalean? What in the world are u talking about? I never ever said I was a KSU fan! I just love it when people (Sugarlean) comment on posts before reading the whole thing. Get a clue! I read the whole thing and it looked as if you were riding the fence. My bad. I would however suggest you worry more about KU than NU seeing past accomplishments amount to very little.

  11. Maurice Purify (suspended prob all year) Only one monkee... can't and won't let him stop this show. Brandon Jackson (top RB, draft) Helps eleviate the log jam at position by him leaving. Kenny Wilson (dropped tv on foot) Actually it has been a infection and reoccuring problems with the knee that really worries the team more. Adam Carriker (draft) Will be missed. Zack Bowman (top cb got hurt again out for year) On recovery to help team this fall. Not nessarily out for the yr. Zac Taylor (starting qb gone) Have QBs in waiting with probably more tools. Will find out about poise. Kurt Mann (part time starting lineman gone) Was already replaced last season... not a big loss. Matt Herian (mostly injured but was starting TE, still gone). Played all last yr, not injuried. TE while important not a big weapon in BC's offense. Jay Moore (starting DE, gone) Will be missed. Andrew Shanle (starting Safety, gone) Many are saying thank god. Although he he led team with thefts, we won't remember him for his tackling and cover skills. Dane Todd (starting FB, gone). Will be missed but he touched the ball how many times? Easily replaceable in BC's offense. Stewart Bradley (starting LB, gone). Can be and will be replaced by players with gametime experience. Replacing the ends are a bigger concern. Jordan Congdon (starting Kicker, transfered). We won't have to worry about him missing makable kicks anymore. Ola Dagunduro (starting nose tackle, gone). No worry, we have good players coming back at DT. Greg Austin (starting left guard, gone). Was out a good deal of the yr anyway. Won't miss him this season... we missed him last season. We are just as strong, if not stronger at QB spot. Both Gantz and Keller looked fab at the spring game. Just because Keller hasn't been named the starter doesn't mean he isn't working out. I wouldn't name a starter this early as well. Competition will only make all of the QB candidates better. (When has Keller looked bad? Anybody know?)
  12. We don't have a unity council anymore. That was done away when BC took over. Hate to say it but Mo has ran out of get out of jail free cards. I don't see any difference in this and the baseball team troubles. Anderson gave them so much rope but still had mavericks bucking the system. At some point you have to put your foot down. You just can't let 1 monkee stop the show.
  13. Slight edge to 03 in a low scoring game. I wouldn't trust the tackling by the 06 squad vs the option. Too many weak tacklers in the secondary which hurts vs a option based squad. Then again with Lord's decision making it could be interesting. I like Pellini's ability to adjust with a go gettem defense especialy 2nd half vs 06 squad inabillity to make better 2nd half adjustments than their opponents. That would be huge I would think. Now if the 06 squad got out early and strong and put up a decent lead... the 03 squad would be in trouble playing catch up.
  14. I think expectations are different for a new coach when he follows a coach that was let go vs a coach that was hired after the previous one retired in great standing. For T.O. and Frankie the expectations were higher. For BC its been this is going to take some time. Solich had some successful seasons but they were tainted by some lopsided losses that affected NU fans view of his performance. We have seen seasons like this so far in the BC era. In fact one could argue not quite as good as we have avg 5 losses a yr so far in this new era and being ranked is a rarity. This is why I will always dispute how far down the program went with the last staff. We were usually ranked and considered a major player nationally. I still feel there was a over reaction on the success or lack of in the Solich era. Face it we were spoiled by the last 10 yrs before. With the vast change in systems, I think most Husker fans saw that this would take time. For that reason alone, I think expectations were tempered with this knowledge. It (expectations) does however grow with each season. Especially with these overhyped recruit classes always thrown in fan's faces.
  15. Combination of things has to go right. Talent certainly is needed in todays CFB world to be champs. Sound systems and the personel to teach and coach systems. I think luck is underplayed. Staying healthy is a huge key. Doesn't hurt to have a great support system backing the team (donars, facillities and fan support). Still when it comes down to it... execution of all of this at a high level becomes imparative. Without it you are just ordinary.
  16. I don't see all this recruiting magic everyone is trumpeting. First of all wins and losses do matter. Ask Notre Dame's last coach... he recruited pretty well too. Also, after seeing so many players getting all this hype at recruiting time, I take it with a grain of salt. Not all that glitters is gold. We have lost over half that ballyhooed class of a couple yrs ago. So with all the hype and hoopala over recruiting... remember we have to keep em happy and win too. You can have all that excitement over a couple of recruit classes. Besides, it didn't take highly rated recruit classes to have the team ranked highly in the past. Myself... I get more excited over ranked teams and BCS bowling. So while BC isn't on the hot seat, there will be more pressure in the next 2 seasons to get us back to being ranked among the nation's best. I say the book is still out on him until so. Losing 5 games a yr doesn't fly long around here.
  17. Actually Skers... I personally had no problem with the Hillbilly thing and the Guesture gate. Found it more amusing than anything. Only problem was as with the Pellini losing it (And I also seen Frank lose it once on a terrible call), it became a big distraction with the press running it to the ground. That we didnot need at the times the incidents occurred. We need to avoid situations like that. Actually I was giving BC the atta boy when he gave Uselesschek the whatfo when he did the throat slash. I'm kind of sympathetic when it comes to fighting for your team. I almost got tossed the other day on a balk call on a second strike. The problem is they called it but our bench didn't hear the call for they must of whispered it I swear. So when a apparent strike 3 came on the next pitch, I was dumbfounded. I screamed thats strike 3. The umps corrected me and said they called a balk on the pitch before. I then screamed as loud as I could ..."Say it loud if you call it. We don't have secret decoder rings over here." That didn't go over too well. The crowd cracked up and umps both came over and told me they didn't have to speak up. I answered "well nanny-nanny boo-boo". Came that close to being tossed. My point is this though. My showing up the ump did not help one bit outside of the fact that my team seen I will go to war for them. Needless to say we didn't get any calls the rest of the way. Momentum also seem to sway the other way. That hitter hit a 2 strike seeing eye ball 2 rbi single on the next pitch and they put up 4 2 out scores after the big hoopala over nothing really. Lesson learned I guess.
  18. Good thing I'm not coach... With my temper... I'd probably suspend him till further notice (or until I cooled down some) for breaking the golden rule of getting in a situation like that which no doubt has been told to the players umpteen number of times. Then let the the situation run its course before making any final judgement /punishment. I would certainly want to send a msg to the team though with any decision. I coach baseball at this time, and heck sometimes I want to dole out punishment for not hustling to my taste. Mr. Bench is waiting for you has been my cry.
  19. Oustanding job CMB. Now make a big poster of this and post it in the Husker lockeroom for inspiration.
  20. I think you are over stating this Skers. The team wasn't in any mess like you claim. Lets see. We've had the Hillbilly thing. Guesture gate. I'm Comparing this to Pellini charging the field. Never did figure out why that botther so many in the first place. I loved his fire and willingness to fight for his boys. No worse than giving the ref the throat slash. A ton of much hyped players leave. Ritchie left under Callahan's reign not Solich's. We have also had some discipline problems that BC has addressed in a sound manner. I don't see much of a difference when you talk of these things. Like I said. We seen the good and the bad. What we haven't seen are the wins that get us back in the national picture and consistantly in the rankings. The last staff at least can make this claim. I think this is important to the Husker nation. You can't just always look good on paper and continue to say for yrs at a time that we are headed in right direction but the record doesn't necessarily reflect this. This next season is huge for Callahan and any extention. Any gravitating back to you know where will hurt. I think he will once again have to lead us back to at least a divisional title, better the record and have the program once again nationally ranked. If these things don't happen, I can see a big division coming in the Husker nation as to whether we should keep him or not. Time will tell.
  21. I agree Junior... Yes there are some things that say yes we appear to be heading in positive direction. We've also seen some things that definitely needs to be better as well. IMO though, SP has a luxuary of giving this more time before making any decision about a contract extention. Yeah I know it helps recruiting if a coach's position is soundly secure... but like I said b4... if you do your homework and come up with a good plan in researching and securing the next HC... that guy can come in and get it done in recruiting too. We seen that so far with Bill. He came in and his staff did a very sound job in recruiting right away (keeping em happy is another story maybe). The next man could very well do the same. Gotta win & avoid 5 loss seasons. That just won't fly here very long no matter where you finish in the recruiting rankings.
  22. Anything that gives us more coverage of the Huskers and the Big XII can't be a bad thing IMO. No matter who covers it.
  23. Cally may have already put some restrictions on Mo that we aren't privy of. Lets remember he let a lineman go a couple months ago and it was never officially announced nor reason stated. With the state of current day communications (internet and phones that do everything but make dinner), schools are being more close to the vest in private matters concerning personnel.
  24. Be nice to get out front early... get the crowd into it... defense play lights out and get after it... and make the Trojans play catch up the whole way.
