  1. I still believe that BC philosophy which Coz adopted as well was to play against a teams weakness thus a new plan and a new scheme each week. The good teams at the college level take a different approach. They simply say this is what we do, we are going to try and execute it better than you execute what you do and hopefully we will win. Granted they tweak things but the basic schemes pretty much stay the same. They just emphasize certain aspects more when going against a given defense or offense.
  2. No more than it would open up the bars for litigation for serving the underage players. Probably also no more than the number of incidents where they allow patrons to become so intoxicated they can't function correctly or get into fights or say commit a sexual assault. Besides the backlash for such a court case would be way worse than say not allowing 1/4 (seniors old enough to dring) of the team to go into such an establishment. Typically when you find a trouble spot there is a reason. It may be managements philosphy, they types of patrons they cater too, allowing a little of this or a little of that and then someone crosses the line. You can run a clean safe establishment or you can run a meat market it's really your choice. Besides it's a whole lot better than having a repeat of some of this situations that have arose at those establishments.
  3. It's really hard to be too tough on Joe Dailey. He was throttled on all the message boards, all the papers and he took it better than most men twice his age. If anything he may have been the victim and not a flop. After one season as a starter here and what he went through it's a wonder he had the confidence to walk across the street. I'm not about to bag on him as over hyped or a flop but that's just my opinion. Remember he was an option QB recruited to a school he thought would run the option then forced to learn an offense that they eventually dumbed down for Taylor, dumbed it down again the next year and dumbed it down some more for Keller
  4. Your probably right in a perfect world but this world the head coach is the one who's going to take the heat for irresponsible actions by his players. You see it in the headlines all the time X program out of control, coach not disciplining players etc. Realistically it's a shame he must even make such a statement. It's a shame that these young men can't be responsible. There is a reason the drinking age is 21 instead of 17....20. It is expected that by age 21 you can act responsibly. At 21 you can't say the young man made a mistake. That's for 17 and 18 year olds. At 21 it's grown man and responsible for his actions. In most situations the law cuts you some slack until age 18 and after that you get treated as an adult. At 21 it is your responsibility and not your coaches responsibility to be your baby sitter in addition to mentor, adviser and coach.
  5. I couldn't agree more. BC wasn't a bad guy, I'm not even sure he was a bad coach. I suspect that with everyone in the country talking about him needing a "signature" win he and the staff probably put too much emphasis on the SC game and when it fell apart everything fell apart. I give the guy credit for a couple of things: We didn't have a ton of guys getting into trouble, we graduated a lot of players and at least for a while we had an infusion of excitement in the football program. Nothing like now but more than we had with Solich. He also brought some modern concepts to the game. Little things like the pancake block isn't all it's cracked up to be. Sustaining a block long enough to get the job done and moving on to the next guy also isn't such a bad idea. He also put us back on the minds of recruits all over the country where Frank seamed a bit limited in his recruiting.
  6. All good points but you are asking for something. You stated it yourself. You are asking for respect. Respect is fine and is reasonably given for the most part. One can disagree with anothers view point with out being disrespectful. It is my opinion that the university is not disrespecting this individual. Out of respect for him he was grandfathered once and given a pretty significant break. The question is where should it stop. Unfortuneately times have changed. It gets more expensive each and every year to put the football team on the field, maintain the facilities, pay coaches, travel, equipment and lets not forget the ever popular training table. It all costs money. It's not intended to disrespect long time fans and supporters it's intended to keep the program moving forward. It sucks, it's unfortunate but it just may be the best thing for the program. Where do you stop. Do you never raise ticket prices once someone has tickets? In essence that is what has happened. His ticket prices have gone up, he can't afford them so they have given him a choice of other seats that he can afford. Do we set ticket prices based on when one first becomes a season ticket holder and not raise them again until that person declines the tickets or fails to renew them? Do we set ticket prices and only raise them as the cost of living goes up? This keeps what you've got if you are lucky but will never get you any improvement. Do we trust that TO has the best interests of most Nebraskans, the University and the athletic department in mind? Personlly I trust the guy to do the right thing and will do so until he proves me wrong. Even then he's done enough right I might let one or two slide a little. The football program isn't here for the seaons ticket holders alone, not just for the doners or the students or even the atheletes. The program is here for all fans young and old, in state and out of state. The program is even here for non football fans. I supports other athletics, molds young men to be leaders in society, to give them a chance at an education. The program is here for many and not just long time ticket holders and long time doners. Now I'm rambling
  7. Not to start an argument but I read in a newspaper once that a guy saw a flying saucer come down from the sky and green guys took him and did experiments on him. Just because he said it and just because it was in the paper didn't prove anything. I also know a guy who has had season tickets for approximately 40 years. His tickets always get used but he certainly hasn't been to every game. He donates and he gets his tickets every year. The couple who had the tickets beside them were good friends over the years and they too still get their tickets but they are never there. Their kids go friends etc. but they no longer attend. The price of gas, the long hike to the stadium and many other things make it difficult for them. The program going down the tubes isn't proven but time will tell. You may be right, then again it may just be your opinion but it's hard to prove that something is going to happen before it actually happens. My point is that opinions are not proof...........that and I'm in a particularly good mood and tend to enjoy a good dialogue of opposing view points. Personally I'm going to have a great day and thank you for suggesting that I do. The sun is shining and it is baseball season. Just caught an inning over lunch and hopefully I'll catch the end of the Husker game later on the radio. I hope it will be a win and yes it is going to be a wonderful day.
  8. There is another tradition. He who donates the largest amount the most often gets the best treatment. All we need to do is expand that treatment and you can get rid of all the little guys. There are plenty of traditions. Sitting on the one you like isn't realistic. There is another tradition. That one is that memorial stadium is the loudest most intimidating house in the nation. That can't happen with nothing but post retirees in the stands. Nothing agains retirees but Memorial stadius is NO LONGER the loudest most intimidating stadium around, not even in the big 12 and show knows maybe not even the most intimidating in the Big 12 North before long. We have a lot of traditions. You can weight out the tradition of having the best facilities against the lowest ticket prices. They are both traditions but it is hard for both to continue to exist. That is why ticket holders must learn to roll with the punches. It's not 1968 anymore. It's 2008 and above all Bo is back and the tradition of great defense, a loud intimidating excited stadium and intensity are about to begin. Times change. We can change with them or we can get off the track and let someone else run with the big dawgs. You going to see a lot of new traditions but this ticket thing has little to do with tradition. Maybe history but not tradition and there is a difference. Sorry if I'm coming across as harsh but frankly some of these squibbles over nothing or something that only effects a handfull of ticket holders when the other 1.69 million other Nebraska fans are getting pumped about the upcoming seasing is a bit of an irritation. Oh has I almost forgot as far as the "me" generation comments.........isn't putting ones season ticket prefrences above those of the university, the football program and other ticket holders the real "me" generation act! Thats what the article is really about. His tickets, his seating preference, his 4 tickets instead of two, his donations, his supporting over the years etc. Me, me, me, me and me.
  9. Times change and you go with the flow, you fight it out or you simply move on. You pay for tickets and you get a ticket. ALL ticket holders have gotten what they paid for. Times change and so do economics. Ticket prices go up. The same argument could be had if prices went up $25. "I've been a supporter since before the dirt was there under memborial stadium and by golly I shouldn't hafta pay the higher prices". He was given options that he may or may not like, may or may not be able to afford etc. Everything gets more expensive and while loyalty to a ticket holder is important it is not THE most important. They don't sell tickets to build loyalty they sell them to pay for everything and at Nebraska it works. It fact it works quite well. On the flip side you hear people all the time whining because they can't buy tickets at all. The waiting list is too long, my neighbor has their uncles tickets that he's had since 1960 andhe died in 1980 etc. It wouldn't be the end of the world to have a bunch of screaming crazed fans in the stands instead of those who want to sit, visit and just be there taking up space. It may not be the best of all worlds but it's certanly not the end of the world either. Besides loyalty goes both ways. As costs go up, the university needs more money etc. a loyal fan can also buck up to the plate. Can't afford it? That is not the universities problem. I can't afford it either hence I don't have season tickets. The football program is there for the university and NOT for the individual.
  10. Let's not forget the Duke Lacrosse team here. If he did it hang'm but maybe we should wait until things unfold a little more. If I was drunk and accused of something like that and I didn't do I'd be fighting mad by the time the cops got there. Yes, I'd be wrong but I'd still probably be fighting mad. If I was drunk and had done what he's accuse of well I'd be fighting scared by the time the cops got there and I'd still be wrong. I guess my point is that Bo has done the right thing and we must wait to find out what the court determines before we crucify him. I'd hate it if this turned out to be another Duke type incident but I hate it even more if it is true.
  11. As more details are coming out it doesn't sound like Bo is making and "example" here. It sounds more like he's simply doing what needs to be done. Being and "example" is getting a little extra punishment to let other know that such activities will be dealt with in a severe manner. I guess the strength training program was doing better than we thought.
  12. Nope but I have heard from Bo and company and I like what I'm hearing!
  13. Quite frankly I'm so stoked about the new staff, TO being back etc. I've all but forgotten last season and what's his name and that other guy and the one they sent packing early........................
  14. Mike Knox - 84 team. Not the greatest athelete but all heart. At one time I beleive he held a record for the most broken helmets in a season. As I recall he was dramatically slower after a knee injury. Mark Mumford - another guy who played with heart and asthma. Kenny Walker - again a great deal of heart. None of these guys may have set the world on fire but all of them embody what a black shirt is. Demario Williams and Mike Minter- had the best motor I've seen at Nebraska
  15. Worst off the field call. "Hey, lets go hire Steve Pederson"
  16. Someone needs to let sleeping dogs lie.
  17. The guy maybe an idiot but so are a large number of us. Some of us get lucky and avoid certain troubles, some of us get lucky and have others around us to help us avoid trouble and most of us through the grace of God avoid troubles. I guess what I'm saying is from this idiot I hope he works it out and someone who can help him get is life back together finds a way to get him started on the right track again. I hope he makes it.
  18. It's not him. The hairs too long and why would he be on that dudes back
  19. Can't help but think that Gilmore and Cotton wearing Shzit kickers is a sign of things to come
  20. Doane was there long before Tommy and it will be there long after. Form your own opinions of the school. I graduated from Doane and it has it's good points and it's bad like any school. Although It's been a very long time since I've been back there.
  21. I predict the Coach Pelini Show or the Bo show or whatever will start out each week with a report on the medical condition of the previous weeks offensive opponants.
  22. Our offense is pretty bad. The D last year simply gave up. The offense could not overcome a single penalty on any drive. That is not a good offense that is a really bad offense. Please don't tell me how many yards they put up, don't tell me how many points they put up. Tell me what their third down conversion was. That's a far better indicator of their performance. Through out most of the year they had to put up big numbers in the 4th just to get back into games. IMO Bo will have the Defense playing at their best. Offensively I'm not sure we have the coaches to get things rolling. My biggest concern over all is the realtive physical strength of the team. It just appeared to me that the offensive and defensive lines were out muscled most of the year.
  23. Heck when I read the topic I had to ask myself if Frank had tragically died. Well he hasn't so lets not have a memorial just yet. That's the only time anyone ever honors an assistant coach. I hope Frank has a long and prosperous life never to be honored for a tragic ending.
  24. Uh, I think it's their money and a small price to pay for getting TO, Pelini, Sanders, Brown and the gang. Heck, it's cheap for what we are getting in return.
