  1. As I said in another post. If we don't blowout Ball state this weekend and Turner Gill and company at UB do well enough to win against Ball State the week after they play us then it's pretty much game over for BC which in my opinion would be a shame.
  2. Ya sure whatever but. That is unless we show anything less than spectacular against Ball State and then the following week Turner Gill and the UB beat them. If that happens then realistically whether it makes sense, is logical, is fair, is a waste of time or anything doesn't really matter. All the logic in the world could not prevent Husker fans from calling out to Turner. It may not be logical but it is what it is. Personally I hope Turner and company come out looking really good this season.
  3. I disagree. Give them out early if you like. The guys want to know who's got their back. Each black shirt can be taken away but it would require a performance similar to last week for that to happen. By the same token a black shirt can be given to someone who puts forth an excellant game even if in a back up role. I suspect the middle of the defense will be pretty solid the rest of the year. I also suspect that there will be something else slip just a little bit to fill the gaps that were there last week.
  4. Isn't it like being voted the most popular while finishing last in a beauty contest? There was a time when Memorial Stadium would roar constantly and it was an intimidating place to play a football game. Not so anymore or at least not like it was. It's one thing to applaud the other team, it's a whole other thing to be courtious outside the stadium but come one. Did USC ever once have any difficult calling a play, was it even once loud enough that one of their guys jumped off side? When was the last time the crowd was an issue for a visiting team. Granted last year our D said the crowd was too loud for them to communicate but go figure. It's not like the D can't run around and communicate. The offense is stuck in place and must scream to make any adjustments, call the count out etc. Not here though With all the comments this week regarding players and coaches this is just my opinion but why don't we put on some soothing music, broadcast is over the stadium sound system, throw some incense on the grills along with the Fairbury Hotdogs, set the lights low and hold hands during the game.
  5. Rumor has it that BC was plenty ticked about the loss. Kinda makes you wonder what his conversation with Coz was like, if he called out the D etc. A kick in the seat of the pants is good for all of us now and then. Lets hope BC was wearing his kicking boots on Monday.
  6. There is a whole other aspect to look at. First whether you like BC or not he was the only one to step up and take the job. Remember the debacle that the replacement process was when he was hired. First it was Sanders from KC then the whole Huston Nutt debacle. Did you ever think that not everyone in football thinks that coaching at Nebraska is the best gig out there. May not even be in the top 20. I don't know how the HC process goes but I do know that nobody was beating down the door to get the job other than Pelini and Turner. Maybe Turner was the guy, maybe not, but we will never know. I was and am as big a fan of Pelini as anyone but if you haven't noticed he still doesn't have a HC job. Right now BC is the best coach we've got and the best coach we are going to get for quite a while. Maybe we should accept it and go with it. Personally I like what he's done. Is he where I would like. A definate NO but as I said he's the best we have now and the best we can expect for quite some time.
  7. It's been said that you can never go back. Pelini was great, he's a great motivator, has had great assistants and great success. He's got speed all over the place down there. He had it here too. There's not doubt that the talent level on D is down at NU (Ruud, McKeon, Steinkuler etc.) but Pelini would get everything they had and then some. That being said it will never happen. Had we been able to keep him then, along with a good offensive mind we would have had something but there is NO CHANCE we will ever see him on our sideline again.
  8. ALSO, I wanted to point out the fact I am totally behind Callahan, because as Mack Brown has proven, you don't have to be a great coach to win consistently, because if you have better athletes than the other guy, you will win 10 games or more a year!!! Don't throw in the towel Big Red Nation, the Huskers need us more than ever right now to keep this thing rolling the right way!!! GO BIG RED!!! Agreed. The offense showed great improvement. Keller performed admirably in the complete absence of a running game. I must also agree the linebackers have played very poorly. Even Steve O was out of position a lot. Only his speed and quickness kept him in it. Just as a reminder even BC stated in preseason that the talent has improved but that we were not there yet. Guess the guy was right.
  9. Lets see, not debris on the field, no riots and still you can find a section or two where the language is tolerable. Doesn't sound all that bad to me. To be honest when the game gets boring people leave to beat the traffic. You must consider that college football is entertainment. When it is no longer entertaining people will leave to beat the traffic. Even when your team is blowing the other one out, your own fans will leave. I watched the entire game at home which is where I prefer to watch football. I saw some things I liked and some things I did not. I was really disappointed and suprised that we simply were no where near able to compete with USC this year. They could have put double the points up if they so desired. That is not entertainment. It was sorta like one of those pay for your kill hunting preserves. The prey simply does not have the survival instincts to make it a challenge. That is how our defense played the last two games. They really didn't present a challenge. I do give Pete Carrol props for not totally making us look as bad as we really played. I also give BC props for keeping the fight going when the game was basically over. Keller gets very high marks as does the recieving corp for the USC game. It looks like the defense is in the middle of a real crisis. No spirit, no heart, no fire etc.
  10. First I've never been a fan of Coz and if by some chance he produced the #1 D in the country I might (unlikely) change my mind. I believe he's only ever had one D ranked better than 50th in his career and that was his first year here. I could be wrong though. We keep talking about Coz and yes the LB's played terrible as did the D line and the O line on in the running game but as Callahan has had to focus on the Offense to keep his job and keep the naysayers off his back you can see a lack of talent on the Defensive side. First there's a reason that Juco's are at Juco's and it isn't always because of grades. Second Ty steinkuler as your starter says a lot about talent. We are poorly coached on Defense but we also are lacking in talent. Octavian had some TD saving plays but he too was out of position most of the night. No McKeon doesn't look like he has the fire he did last year. They look unmotivated to say the least.
  11. IMO you should do the exact opposite. The louder, more excited we are the better, even if it is Kirky the turkey. Here's why. Like it or not it's national TV, kids from across the country hear how great it is in Lincoln to play ball, how we follow it and what kind of fans we are. Those same kids will not have a clue as to why it is dead silent but they will wonder what all the hype is about Nebraska, the fans and playing there if it is dead silent. The best way to shut Kirkyboy up is to be as loud as possible and to make everyone see how great it is to be a football player at Nebraska. Maybe by doing so you won't turn off a potential heisman trophy winner who then ends up going to a different school. Winning will shut the guy up, nothing less and nothing more.
  12. I've only been to a handful of games and to be honest I didn't find it that loud. Granted they weren't big games but games just the same. 1/2 the season ticket holders are old enough they need to drag an O2 bottle behind them and with a late game those who have enough lung capacity to yell may be so tanked the won't be able to. Noise will not be an issue for USC but if it is...........it will be short lived. Just my opinion Now my trip to KC to watch them play the raiders, in the cold, rain, wind etc. Now that was loud, it actually hurt most of the game but when the raiders got near the endzone where we were sitting it became extremely painful to the ears.
  13. Exactly! I don't realy mind being under the ESPN radar. Their analyst are pretty bad, their programming is pretty bad and they've lost their identity. They were once THE sporting network but no more. Fox and others have got them covered big time. Not only on the tube but the radio as well. They've lost their edge and unless they make some changes they'll go the way of the dinosaur soon enough. ESPN is in need of an overhaul, a much bigger overhaul than even Cally took on. But remember these guys really don't show anyone in the Big XII that much respect. OU and UT because the don't have a choice but wait for one of them to stumble and they'll blush them just as they did the rest of the big XII soon enough.
  14. It's a little early for predictions. A few key losses due to injuries can change things dramatically. May is just doing his job, sora like the devils advocate of the way that vultures eat the dead rotting carcasses arlong the road. I guess what I'm simply trying to say is that he's on par with those critters that eat dead rotting carcasses we still need them to eat the dead rotting carcasses. This would also explain the stink surrounding most of his comments. Besides he's on a great team. I saw Lou Holtz the other day giving his prediciton that the Missouri 'JAYHAWKS' seen here in red and blue will win the north. Yes Lou, we all know the Missouri 'JAYHAWKS' will be tough this year. And yes Mark USC will hang 45 on us in our house and yes the world is flat. What a great team they have there but then again it makes for good blooper specials during the down months.
  15. I say keep Cally around. I like the style of play, I believe they have improved each year under him. I too hoever question if he is a great coach but who said he needs to be. The coaching needs to be done by the assistants in many cases. Personally I've been more impressed with the improvement on the offensive side of the ball than what I've seen on on the defensive side. Defense wins championships. I'm not sure Coz is the guy but then again I still recall the jokes regarding TO and how he could not win the big game. In college football today 9 out of 12 games are big games for any given team. In the old days there was a lot of fluff on the schedule because there were a lot of bad teams. KU was fluff but not many would say they are a door mat for all of NCAA football any more, same for Iowa State and even K-state not that many years ago. College football is more competitive than ever and Cally must produce but personally I think he's got this season and possibly next to do so. A big 12 championship is a must either this year or next. If the chemistry is there this could be a good team. If it is not it could be really bad.
  16. It was also once widely speculated that the world was flat but outside of Iowa that too has been proven otherwise...........
  17. Oh Matt boy has done a lot in Nebraska. Personally due his radio program I now despise, Creighton, Tom Brady, the Patriouts, the Red sox, the Qwest Center and am rapidly loosing interest in the colleg world series. I've recently switched to listengin to 1480 "Regular Joe Sports Show" thanks to Matt. What a guy? The best part is a Husker fan called in and said he was once a Husker and Creighton fan and now roots for the Huskers and anybody playing Creighton. Matt was proud that he causes such division in the state. He felt he was the cause of a rivalry in the state. It's funny though because while OU has historically been on of the Huskers biggest rivalries many Husker fans root for them except when they are playing Nebraska. Matt doesn't understand the difference between rivalry and dislike of your opponent. Matt has done a good job of promoting: Tom Brady as the best QB ever, The Pats as the best team ever and that the only teams in MLB that are any good have former Red Sox players on them. The rest simply will not be in contention for post season honors..........and yes Alabama is the best college football program ever, they have the best fans, the best traditions and treat all former players as gods.
  18. NU football was here long before any of the players we are hearing from, long before Steve P., long before Billy C and long before you and I. It will still be there when we are all gone. Got news for ya boys. Theres a new management team and you've got to adjust to what they are doing if you want to be a part of it. They are in charge now and quite frankly doing a pretty decent job in a lot of areas. IMO they would welcome you back with open arms if you choose to be a part of the new NU football program. They'd be foolish not too. As far as Broderick talking trash.......if you remember his time at UNL he talked more than the rest of the defense in total. The man likes to here himself talk and likes to talk trash. It is what it is.
  19. IMO the majority of the fans can see that there are always two sides to every story. New coaching staff means that the personal ties to the program are broken. The university was here long before these players and it will be here long after. Same with the football program. While the university should have the fore sight to reach out to many former players to help continue to build the program these same former players should have the fore sight to realize that they need to reach out to the program as well if they want to be a part of it. For these guys it's a lot like going back to your old neighborhood only none of the same people are there and most of the buildings have been replaced with new ones. Sure they don't feel a part of it..............it's because they are not part of it. They can be again if they choose to be but that doesn't mean that they don't need to put forth some effort. I heard Tommy F. going off on the radio, the DJ really pushing him to do so, and I was really disappointed in him. I've never really held him in high regard as a person but even less so after the interview. TO handled himself with dignity as he always does but most forget that when he left the program he chose NOT to associate himself with the program because he felt he would be a distraction. This was a very wise decision because he was correct. Now however may be the time for him to find a way to become more involved. Possibly buy building that touchy feely environment that so many of the players mention.
  20. Actually Kellers lucky it wasn't Icognito he was yelling at. If it were they'd still be washing what was left of him down the storm drain with a fire house. Any time a 200 lb man is yelling and screaming at a woman and throwing stuff at them it's a big deal. Where I grew up he'd be called a (starts with P has a u and a couple of ss's and a why in it). The cops write the ticket so they they aren't put in a place to be judge and jury. They did their job. The campus police, administrators or who ever will look at the case and decide if charges should be processed or dropped. It's pretty simple. Jumping up and down and screaming at a girl.............a girl. Give me a break and all over a parking stall? If that were to happen in the parking lot of a shopping center he'd have been charged with making terroristic threats and be sitting in jail waiting on a bond hearing. His word against hers plus a few witnesses. The truth will come out and then we can see this young man has been falsely accused or if he is much less manly that he appears.
  21. This just in. Frank Solich said he would have coached at NU another 23 years................ Let me just say I have way more interest in next years football season than I do in TO's woulda, coulda shoulda or in whether or not Stevie P is sleezy or any number of adjectives that have been and will continue to be attached to his name. I'm too old to live in the past. I need to spend my time living today rather than living under TO or Frank or whoever. TO was a great coach and I'd prefer to remember him as that rather than a guy who says he woulda, coulda or shoulda. While I miss the option game I find great pleasure in seeing something new every Saturday. Bill Callahan is our coach, we don't get to decide who the coach is so if we don't like it we can either sit around the coffee shop complaining about what was or we can anxiously await the next chapter of what is. I for one am anxiously looking forward to next season. It may not be great, it may not be a national title but it sure will be fun. Hoorah Billy C. show us what you can do.
  22. I can see him one day eating one of John Maddens turkey legs some thanks giving.
  23. I'd expect a coach to be upset if he has any competitive nature at all. I'd also expect each and every one of you to be upset if I went back on my word to you. Yes he's young and yes he may have learned a lesson. It's been said "you are only as good as your word". I don't ever recally anyone putting an age limit on that..........In either case I wish him luck as long as it's not at our expense.
  24. They also said you can add a tenth of a second to each of the times they ran today to get a realistic idea to what they might run on turf so those numbers then start to make a little sense.
  25. Pre-BC Offense - Turner Gill, he may not have been the runner Tommie was but he would go deeper into a run and pitch the ball later than any QB I've ever seen. With this guy the play was never over when he was on his way down, only after the whistle blew. Defense- Christian Peter - Heart and sole of a defense. Possible Bo Ruud. BC era Offense- Zack Taylor - not because of his skills but because of his toughness. Courage is an admirable trait. Defense- McKeon but many more to come.
