  1. Please refrain from using rational thought, facts or statistices. It only confuses some more and causes them to become more conviced that the sky is falling.
  2. Agreed, the staff that Solich was saddled with was a problem in itself. Not that Solich may have done any better with an entirely new staff either but the time had come for a good house cleaning. Some fans have grown up on coaches that were hear since they were kids and they struggle to relate to the new staff or to feel like they still understand the program and the philosopies of the staff. Change is difficult for many. Even more difficult if the changes are wholesale across the board. Again a good housecleaning was in order. There will always be a bunch of what if's but the staff that we have is headed the right direction. Coaching is a tough job and yes the days of an assistant staying put for 25 years are gone as is the days of a program staying with a coaching staff for 25 years. In this day and age the schools are always striving for being better. If you have a run of several 1 year losses then chances are you're going to get fired because you can't win the big one. That's just how it is. How many people were calling for Mack Browns head and will be again in a year or two? Tough job but that's why the get the big bucks.

  4. I don't know that I've ever read a more accurate and honest post on this forum.
  5. Because this has NOTHING to do with the University today. This has to do with a FORMER player getting busted. Another one of the many high quality character guys from the 90's. If you have 41 lbs of weed why wouldn't you make sure you followed all the traffic laws and set the cruise on the speed limit? Logic is often amiss when you are sampling too much of said product.
  6. Officer it's like this. Since I moved to Nebraska and after playing all those "hillbilly's" down there in Oklahoma I've become quite fond of horses. One horse in particular. His name is Herbie and well Herbie has a problem with his eyes and we feed this stuff to him so he can see the TV when we watch the games on Saturday. It also mellows him out. You see his a race horse and well the state gaming commission won't let my vet there at Fonner park give him any more vodka to take the edge off on race day. He gets a little high strung and when he can't see so good it's a bit of a problem. Heck last week he mounted a Buffalo, we're not sure if it's because he can't see or if he was just reliving last Novembers game. In either case a bunch of people from Colorado wanted him turned into glue. Now I just couldn't let that happen. Besides it was prescibed by a guy named Balco out in California
  7. All good points however I often wonder if the biggest culture change that fans are struggling with is the lack of continuity in the football program. All the old names are gone, most of them should be but I believe they often question which coaches will be leaving next. Blake is goine, Norvell is gone, another was ready to jump ship etc. On the baseball side of things how many coaches have left since Pederson has been here. I don't have a problem with Doak being gone. I mean I feel bad for the guy but in this day and age "we are going a different direction" is more than most people get in any job. What that tells me is that Doak is a good guy, good at what he does but that the program has evolved and he has been unable to evolve with it. That's not a knock on him or anyone else. It's a tough deal to change your way of thinking, and it's even tougher to accept a reduced role of infuence. So security is tighter in the athletic department. I'd love to be able to go sit in Haymarket park and eat my lunch but guess what I don't own it and don't really have a "need" to be there. Most athletic facilities have limited access. AD's get far too much credit when things are going right and probably not near enough when things aren't going so well. One thing to remember with Steve is that he has hung his hat and his career on what happens with the football program and Bill C. Right or wrong this is how he will be judged. That being said Bill had better win the Big XII title this year and had better be in a BCS bowl either this year or next or things will get pretty rough around here for Steve. Personally I don't care much for Steve based on what I see on the news but I do like Bill. Sometimes I think he makes things too complicated but otherwise I believe he's got most if not all of the skills to get us back in contention for a few top 5 finishes. I just wish he had someone to coach special teams. The game is won on 3 aspects. Offense, defense and special teams.
  8. I am curious how many donors are withdrawing and how much fewer dollars is the athletic department bringing in compared to those years prior to his arrival. I am also slightly suprised how one man can destroy "Husker Nation". If true he may be the most powerful man in Nebraska, maybe even the entire country
  9. All pretty big talk at the moment. If he can back it up...........LOOK OUT.
  10. Soo much speculation. Employee A was canned by company X. Employee A says it's not fair, they never game me a reason and I'm a fixture of this institution. All could be true, all could be true in one persons mind, none of it could be true. We don't really know. We do know that the University like most large institutions like to avoid lawsuits and work very hard to avoid being put in a situation where they can be successfully sued. I'm guessing everyting is A: legal and we may one day believe it was also B: ethical and correct. We may never know but to simply assume that a terminated employee is 100% accurate in his statements may be a stretch. I know everytime I get bad news and it's a shock you've got to tell me over again the next day after I've slept on it and can get my head back in order. Once that occurs then I can be happy, sad angry or whatever. Today I'm happy
  11. As far as Doak goes the University knows what happened, the boosters know what happened and none of them are jumping up and down for Cally's head. Could mean that all of them are not real bright or it could mean that they beleve Cally made a good move. It's not a matter of trusting everything BC or SP do, it's about trusting that the people in the organization and involved in the organization trust that the right thing was done................unless we as fans know more than the university as well as the boosters..............Hey I may be onto something.
  12. Sense when does being a fan entitle you as the fan to know the details of a players personal life???? Ask yourself this, if Marlon was just a student at NU would you be so deeply concerned as you are now about this kids personal well-being???????? Also you stated more than once how you want to honor his privacy then why don't you and bug dope leave well enough alone.................... I always wondered why those screaming about "finding out what happened with Marlon" don't simply post their medical records to prove their point regarding how they have the right to know the story. The kid probably had a nervous breakdown from listending to whiners on blog sites.
  13. Did anyone read that Rathman was going to be the RB coach for the Raiders? It sounds like he didn't coach at all last year after being let go by the Lions. I hope the guy has success there. Hey if you can make it there you can make it anywhere in the NFL.
  14. Most of these things could better be titled Diahrea of a husker but I heard an interview with the author on the radio the other day and this book sounds pretty interesting. Not a gripe book or trying to cause trouble just a good recount of what it was like. Sounds pretty interesting.
  15. This thread makes me really happy that in a couple of weeks I can begin getting the baseball games on the radio.
  16. He may be a snake in the grass but that has nothing to do with the article. The article represents one side of each issue and some opinions of players who knew Doak. All of them admittidly are very distant from the program whether voluntarily or due to circumstances.
  17. It's kind of a sad state of affairs when everyone expects a guy that has never even thrown a pass at Nebraska to be the starter and has had a year off. For this guy to do much the rest of the team will need to be very very good. It could be a long year just to start over with yet another green QB in 08.
  18. I think based on the showing in the big XII championship game and the bowl game that while Keller may be the favorite pre-season BC will fill the position with the player that gives him the best chance to win. The offense did not develop that much after the 3rd game of the season and to win at the end of the year the team will need to continually improve through the season. BC knows how restless the fans are and he knows that he hasn't done anything to get him in the crosshairs for another head coaching job. BC's philosophy has been "just win" when it comes to personell. Keller will be no different. He's going hafta earn it if he wants to be the man on offense.
  19. Talent will only get you so far. You still need great coaching otherwise at the end of 4 years you have a guy that may be bigger and stronger but no smarter than the highschool kid he came in as. I don't question that we are getting better talent. I do however question if we are coaching well enough to develop these kids into top college atheletes. Take this season for instance. How much better was the offense at the end of the season than they were after the 3rd or 4th game of the season. The D did however continue to develop IMO
  20. When a replacement is not readily available, then it is a huge loss. The loss of Brandon Jackson is not huge because there is a stable of running backs behind him. The loss of John Blake was not huge because we landed a DL coach that has already showed that he is an asset. The loss of Norvell would not be huge because Watson, who is proven as an OC, is waiting in the wings. People move on, you have to be prepared for it. The staff and the team are prepared for it. I dunno, given the choice between Watson and Norvell I believe I'd take Norvell. I think Pedy may want to look into this and find out what it would take to keep the guy here.
  21. -See the Stanford band and add the word "doeschbag" and you are dead on. Polo - not for real, right?
  22. Coulda, shoulda woulda..........who cares. I so wish highschool coaches would stay in highschool instead of trying to follow thier players to college. One would think if they had any integrity their conversations with these kids would be kept in confidence. It gets old.
  23. Hypocracy is the definition of a fan. To say that Husker fans are more so is easy simply because of the shear number of them. This is Nebraska and for all the good and bad of that Nebraska fans can be a bit diehard. It's not like a West Coast school where everyone in the state is on the band wagaon based on who's winning. It's not like Cubs fans who are diehard fans when their team looses year in and year out only to become excessively critical only when they are winning. This is Nebraska and we are willing to overlook certian real or percieved shortcomings when we win but like all fans can become more critical when we loose. This year has been a bit different. We are critical even when we win. We see potential, we see improvement and we see our wait for a return to former glory as dutyful however even we have limitations. Fans aren't upset because we haven't returned or restored etc. Fans are upset because the see either real or percieved mistakes that the team, staff etc. should not be making at this point. Is that hypocritical or realistic? Are chiefs fans hypocritical when they give the coach the benefit of the doubt for brining Trent Green back and then after he struggles speek out that the 2nd string guy who's performed well should be starting? I venture to guess there are a few on the KC team that now which the 2nd stringer had the start in the playoff game but that's just a guess.
  24. Here's my take on it. Slauson is a wide body. I can't hardly even get my big but between cars in a parking long let along the large frontal protrusion where my wasteline once exhisted and I'm nowhere near 300 lbs. As far as the spirit squad goes. You know those charleaders and band members are a wild lot. They're a bunch of party animals going at it all the time. Those wild band members build up their pucker to play those instruments by sucking down long necks every night and getting crazy. Yes chearleaders and band members they are the real social rebels, wearing their bright colors and their fancy uniforms. Animals I tell you they're all animals. It's tough to keep such a wild bunch on a leash I tell you. They drag these kids in from the inner city playing thier trumpets, shaking their pom poms and yelling through those big funnels (they also use them for bear bongs you know). They are a wild bunch. The NCAA needs to crack down on these social misfits playing their instruments by day and shaking their pom poms and then partying all night. It and epidemic I tell you and epidemic. Too lump this fine lineman with such a lot in a local publication is blasphamy I tell you. He can't help it he has a big back side. Sarcasm
