  1. Forget "potential". That's the fuzzy thinking you see from so many fans calling high school recruits "beasts" and "ballers" DPE is WYSIWYG. Nothing else changes. He's that good, and that's good enough.
  2. Just checking in. Saw "Johnny Stanton" topic and wasn't sure if this was from late 2012. Any developments?
  3. No matter what happens in the future its hard to argue that every coach on the new staff isn't better than the same position on the old staff. Banker may not be the answer... Pap (I mean Bo) wasn't anything great. Pap was basically a wasted coaching position because Bo overruled anything he said. Bo didn't have his hand in the O as much but as we know he liked to force play calls (like the pass on 2nd and 1 vs Minn) or dictate starters (Taylor, M Pelini, et al). Let's give Riley a chance... he already has more wins vs. top 10 opponents than NU does in this millenium. But save your remarks about how you can't recruit at Nebraska... blah blah. Really, that's hard to argue? You know nothing about how these new coaches will perform. Won't you be ripping into them if we lose to BYU? Tell me where I'm wrong. Riley vs Bo Banker vs Pap/Bo Bray vs Els Warren vs Warren (plus a year experience and no micromanagement. ) Cavanaugh vs Garrison or Barney (with Bo meddling with starters) Read vs Els (special teams) It seems that Riley's staff is both more experienced and organized better than Bo's was. From what I have seen the only place we won't be better is at RB coach. But that's thr least important position (RBs either have talent or they don't for the most part) on the staff and should be a great recruiter. Brown didn't put as much into recruiting as he used to. All that being said coaching improvements alone may not have measurable results. If we lose to BYU then I will place blame where it is deserved. Brown has never been a good recruiter as he doesn't believe in putting in those kind of hours. Each coach deserves six years before they are judged on thier results. The first four they have to deal with what was left by the previous coaching staff, which may be good (Tom for Frank) or bad (Frank for Bill). Two years after the previous coaches last recruiting class should give you a good idea of what that staff will bring you in the future. first four years you are going to give the new guys a pass altogether?.........wow, seems after 2 or 3 you should see some real improvement, as half the guys playing will be recruited and coached up by the new coaches........4-6 years the pattern is set...without a doubt, but things should show steady improvement way before then....i want to see that steady improvement in the first 4 years, old recruits or not! and seeing that the bad coaches consistently won 9 or more games a year, the new improved coaching staff should at least match that number the first two or three years and after that need to win the BIG and play in the national championship playoff- I'd say that is the minimum expectation Seriously. That's you're problem. He's gone man.
  4. I'm looking forward to the showing. It could be that.
  5. Their last coach is now at one of the best spots possible (Florida) after coaching at CSU for 3 years... Yes Mcelwain did a great job at CSU and bc of that he got Florida at the right time and its a great job. Several things had to happen I guess.
  6. Saw the ESPN ticker showing USC has 67% chance of winning the game per whatever it's based on. But they do have talent, speed, and a coach & staff all returning to consider.
  7. Elf, there is an A/V Tech Club forum with help posting vids. It's actually pinned and non football related Here's the link to learn more http://www.huskerboard.com/index.php?/topic/57296-posting-youtube-videos-to-huskerboard/
  8. Thanks for the link, good read. ...the next head coach at Nebraska needs to be somebody that feeds the monster in Husker nation instead of fighting it. A coach that makes the fan base feel like it's their team. I also bookmarked the "husker exposure" site too. Pretty cool to see.
  9. No real disrespect to CSU, but they're not a Power 5 con. They have NO chance to ever make a CF playoff, so what do they play for? I mean, where are those hopes at the beginning of the season - realistic or not - that this could be a magical year and make it? If it were me, I'd rather take a chance where there is some hope at a bigger program at least. And a P5 Conf. Even if it was a middle of the pack team. That would be my logical starting point. Look at Duke and how far they've come along. Winston won't play at FSU forever, and it is more possible in the ACC for someone else to rise up. Plus you play in bigger venues and against more traditional power teams. Not to mention the quality of recruits that go to P5 over CSU, etc. Bigger programs, better venues, better recruits, bigger TV games, and championship dreams.
  10. "So hopefully he brings someone in here that is strong, that has some leadership skills. I'm sure they will go do that. My advice is fellas is, it'll be different, but if you choose to stay here, you give the new guy a chance. I went through that fellas, I went from an old-school coach in Earl Bruce at Ohio St to someone who came in and he was totally different....he was a big-time adjustment. Whomever it is will probably come in here and talk bad about what we've done, or.... or sit there and say we gotta upgrade this, we gotta upgrade that, but you guys can control your own destiny by what you put on on film and how hard you work. Don't get caught up in all the BS, all the stuff the press says around here. At the end of the day, you take care of you, you take care of each other. Usually when you have that attitude, things work out. Ok?" --- Planting seeds like this into the player's minds was childish. But even though Bo attempted to bring forth a ridiculous belief, I'm sure these student athletes will be pleasantly surprised by the real teaching and proper support Coach Riley & Co will provide.
  11. Rajon Rondo to the Mavs! Man this really excites me!

Celts get Jameer Nelson, Brandon Wright, Jae Crowder and future picks.

  12. Thanks to GMTood I'm feeling generous too. Next person that posts is going to get a bunch of Merry +1mas from me...... you lucky ducky you!
  13. I think Harbough would be a great hire and turn Michigan around. If these guys can get their teams going strong again moving forward (with exception of Urban Meyer, since they've been really good with him already), we could have a tough conference that could give the SEC a little run for their money. Riley - Nebraska Urban - tOSU Harbough - Michigan Chryst - Wisconsin Franklin - Penn State Kill - Minnesota
  14. Best wishes and best of luck to them both.
  15. I don't agree at all. Cross is just fine...he's not setting land speed records but he's got just as much speed as Rex did. Possibly, but he doesn't have near as much ability to not fall down the first time someone touches him. Lame response that holds no water. It holds water if you've watched the past 4 seasons of Nebraska football. Burkhead made something out of nothing on almost every carry. If you think Cross is as good at staying on his feet and getting extra yards as Burkhead then you have not been watching Nebraska's football games. It is as simple as that. Not only do I fully agree with this, but I will add that Rex had incredible balance & lower body control. That's also where his power came from. And it was tough to hit him straight on. Ameer had that too. That's what made them successful after getting hit 2 yards behind the LOS. By bouncing off the initial contact in the backfield, gathering their balance, redirecting momentum, pushing, twisting and turning it into a 3 yard gain...or 5. Cross does not have that. He has upright power and slightly leans forward. That's why he sometimes gets stood up when the same amount of force hits him. Emmit Smith always credited his success to great balance & lower body control with powerful legs. He didn't have speed, quickness or explosiveness.
  16. That's a good list. I might add Penn State since they used to be a tough top 15 team. Maybe Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Colorado and Washington. I don't think these teams will be perennial super powers, but they used to be programs that were difficult to play and usually fluxed between #10 and #17. I like Tennessee when I think of SEC teams. So I hope they do bounce back into the big picture. I don't know which team you listed will return to a level of near dominance for the next decade, but it is possible that any of those could become a yearly 2 loss max type of program. I'm biased so naturally I hope it's our Huskers. And from a distance, pulling for the Vols to beat up some of the SEC power houses.
  17. The thing that stands out to me is that a HS player from Nebraska has dreamed his whole life of putting on that helmet and competing as a Husker. I have no doubt that these guys will bust their tails off every day all year for a chance to be among the 2 depth. I hope we can bring in more Nebraskans into the program going forward. They might not turn into starters among skill players or the quarterbacks, but they will find a place with that extra effort in special teams, lineman, or whatever positions that need competition pushed to the highest level. Husker kids will do that to out of state commits. The current roster has 43% from the state of Nebraska (59 out of 136) 1997-98 team had 58% from the state. More players back then (110 Neb out of 188) We do need the best players we can get, but sometimes those guys just don't pan out as much as they were hyped.
  18. The N on the helmet, the sea of red, the blackshirts, Go Big Red chants, all the great I-Backs and fullbacks, Tom Osborne, Memorial Stadium, red beers, shake -n- bake chicken on game days, maybe some corn on the cobb & French fries or wings, Huskerboard, and of course, the great "Cornhuskers" nickname. I'm sure there is other stuff too. *Note: shake n bake is optional, but hey it's pretty good stuff
  19. Pleased since day 1. Now just curious about the remaining staff hires, how the recruiting unfolds, and a fresh start during spring practices.
  20. I'd guess he had some funyuns and teared up a little bit. Was an emotional night I'm sure.
  21. Great work LOMS. Always enjoyed these each week
  22. 4 teams. I like it because in the previous model there was an argument that one team was equally deserving to play for the championship and got left out. For example, Alabama vs FSU for the championship game. A good argument is that Oregon deserves to play for the CG as much as Bama or FSU. Now the 4 team playoff eliminates this mess and gives all three that are deserving a fair shot. The 4th team is just gravy at this point, and it provides the extra team needed to accomplish this. Moving forward, I don't believe that a team ranked 4th at end of the season is as good as #1 or #2, but might be debatable against a #3 team. I think the 4th team is the clear underdog. More than 4 teams waters it down. Most years 5-8 will enter the playoffs and be "one and done". And those are wasted games. Especially if you run the table, earned the top 1 or 2 spot, and in round one - your QB hurts an ankle and is out of the picture - and it happens in a game playing the 7th or 8th seed. That would suck for the program and people that want to see the 2 best teams playing for a championship. I don't think college football is for Cinderella stories that have 2 losses and knocks off a top team without that teams best player available. Because it becomes another debate and room for arguments. The playoff is fine with 4...lets get the best 2 in the championship and enjoy a great game. Good luck to Ohio State. I don't think they are deserving just because they beat Michigan State and Wisconsin and NOBODY else, and now get to play Alabama without their best player at QB. Pretty sure Bama will game plan stuff that the 3rd stringer will be unprepared and freak out about while the Tide cruises to an easy win..........but whatever. Not so sure the results would be the same if Bama was playing TCU since they are full strength and more tested then the Buckeyes, while statistically having the better offense, defense and QB.
  23. A thought and a few questions here... What was the injury to Adam Taylor? Will he be fully healthy and roughly when? Also, what are the sizes of these backs (height/weight)? Specifically Wilbon, Taylor, Bussey? Are any of them speed burners? Who is the quickest/fastest? Newby? I think one of the quicker guys will be groomed into a third down back role for passes out of the backfield in space.
