  1. Marlowe. That little sucker is going to take the opening kickoff to the hizzzouuuuuse! "Bank it" -IBR Wait.. Did Marlowe get replaced by Kinnie on kickoffs? I thought Kinnie did real well. I'm still going with Marlowe, even if he doesnt start. Which would make my pick even more impressive if it happens
  2. Pretty obvious to me the discussion is just fun filler material. Just not many heat missile threads on SDSU talk to go around.
  3. omgosh.. skersfan you've just converted me. I hate the Huskers now. just playing.. skersfan is a realist and I've always respected that. I'm not on board with the National Championship talk either. But I am anxious to see how we do in October. By then we will now for sure how good the Huskers are, if there are warm fuzzies on HB or suicide watch. 10/07 @K-State 10/16 TEXAS 10/23 @Oklahoma St 10/30 Missouri
  4. This thing.. 8 mad crazy pages? That's redonculous Hope we have enough butts in the seats this week so the streak continues. Would hate to see the sellout streak snap because not many ppl show up, even though all the tickets are sold out.
  5. I forget.. what are they called again? Jack Rabbits, Hobbits, Yellow Jackets?? Huskers just need to play hard, execute, win nicely and come out healthy is all.
  6. Heck yeah, the defense has improved so much just from his first year alone. Its still hard to forget about Sam Bradford 300+ yards and 5 TDs in 2008 though
  7. Basic interpretation: Not waiting on receivers to get open = pressure sacks accrued from holding onto the ball too long Throwing on rhythm = not a fluid passer Throwing on time = holds onto the ball a little too long when he does pass it Trust your read = indecisive & a bit unsure He does zip the ball and has been extremely accurate at times. But he is not a fluid passer yet by far. His release is quick after he cranks up the ball. Still looks like he is aiming most of the time. I know I'm being a bit critical but not bashing him. Just telling it like I see it and apparently there is some concern out there b/c people are not quite sold yet on the passing game. I'm hoping that they (Watson & Ganz) can help him as he progresses each week.
  8. As it stands this is a rumor. A true rumor or not, you can't be sure, but as Vince said, it's going to be greeted with skepticism. The only time it won't be greeted with skepticism? If we flop this year and people feel like criticizing the kid and the coach's decision. But I don't expect that to happen, and such things are not palatable at all to us Husker fans right now. But, I would just remind people that we should perhaps still be wondering what the heck happened with his missed practice. Sure it's none of our business, and we'll never know. But Taylor missed a practice for reasons that weren't explainable simply ('He had a test'), to the extent that Bo had to protect him. Prior to that he appeared to have been buried on the depth chart, handing off to scout team RBs in practice photos and from what we've heard, in line for a Wildcat package of plays this year. Afterwards, he shot up the depth chart and eventually was named starter. This was in a span of - 2 weeks? 1 week? Pretty remarkable. And that's something I hope I have patience for :/ Exactly and logic would also state if you are #1 on the depth chart you aren't looking to leave. 2 weeks into camp he is at a spot he doesn't like, misses practice, 2 weeks later he starts hmmmmmm I believe it. I think he believed that he was the best of the three - because of his play making ability - and wasnt being seriously considered as the starter. Sometimes you need to draw attention to yourself, albeit it may have not been the best way. But regardless, I am glad he is the starter. And I still have confidence in Zac Lee should this fail.
  9. I don't like this, seeing how our OL has played the last couple of years, and the last two games, with all the mental lapses and penalties really has me worried. I'm with you on that. Playing on the road, they def need to clean that up. Home teams that are underdogs love it when the visitor (and favorite) makes tons of mistakes. They build off of it, gain momentum, fans go nuts, and they start believing they can win. Fortunately we dont have to play perfect to win, but we do need to avoid making stupid costly penalties and turnovers.
  10. Man it just seems like they can get out of rhythm in a hurry and never rebound. I think his previous offensive style couldnt get the job done, and he took the approach "if you cant beat 'em, join 'em" (change to spread). What I do like is when the offense is rolling, its beautiful. I'm big on the forward pass. I think that's going to be all the difference if we are successful this season or not. If they can show consistency with the passing game as a threat (and not that awful lateral stuff - sideline to sideline) the run game will be even more difficult to key on and stop. We'll score BILLIONS of points. At the end of the day, I hope SW gets it right. I really do.
  11. I understand that.... i should have worded my post differently, i obviosuly know that the games will be sold out and our streak will not end. I should have know wording it that way that it would send some people into melt down mode. I know all about the scalpers and the tickets are "sold" thats common sense and its been so long they would give the tickets for a dollar to sell them out. So why are they so worried about it ending if they add seats? If they do what it takes to sell it out why is it going to matter if we add 10k seats...the scalpers with have the tickets so they are "sold" Never mind. Thought you said Addison Mode
  12. Welcome, here's some root Everybody loves a winning quarterback, and PO'd at him when they lose
  13. Locker is def a threat throwing or running. I think coverage sacks will be huge. That vid clearly shows what Locker is capable of doing. Escapability (is that a word?) and getting down field in a hurry. This is a huge test for the Huskers. He will be the best QB we face on the schedule IMO. I like TM's immediate burst, shiftyness, can shed a tackle, and incredible open field running ability. If he gets into an open area its pretty hard to catch him for sure.
  14. Some highlights from the presser... Linky Binky Sark bites --- Nebraska edition Posted by Bob Condotta ON NEBRASKA: "I think this is probably a top 5 well coached team in America. i have the upmost respect for Bo Pelini and his staff and what they do in all three phases. Defensively, this is as sound a defense as I have seen in 10 years playing against really good teams. They are extremely sound, they play together, they play hard, they are all over you in the run game, they are all over you in routes. They do an excellent job of route reading, seeing which routes are coming, and jumping those routes, that's why they create so many turnovers, and offensively they've changed their approach some. They've got a freshman quarterback in Taylor Martinez that can really run. they spread you out and cause a lot of problems for you. We'll be counting on our crowd and our fans and we'll be counting on husky stadium as always when we're at home. I'm a big guy in looking at facts and trying to find things that really matter that we can give to our team and you look at our last three ball games at home our opponents have had 9 pre-snap penalties on offense in the last three ball games combined. That's 7 false starts and 2 delay of games and that's a tribute to our fans and the energy and enthusiasm they bring that not only does our team feed off of but also has an effect on our opponents. We'll be calling on all our Dawgs to bring it on Saturday.'' ON NEBRASKA'S SECONDARY: "The first thing they do is they play a lot of DBs. At times they'll have 7 DBs on the field together. and by doing that they are able to cover a lot of ground and they understand your route concepts really well. And when they know they go, which I think is a unique trait for a DB to have, and it seems like their entire secondary has it. When they know a route is coming they go get it and in turn that's how you end up getting five interceptions in a game.'' DO YOU EMBRACE THIS CHANCE TO GET SOME NATIONAL RECOGNITION IF YOU BEAT NEBRASKA? "I just went them to prepare very well and go out and prepare close to our abilities, if not at our capabilities. I'm not concerned about the exposure part of it. That comes with wins and wins over time and consistency over time. My concern is, I just want to see us maximize an opportunity. We've got to go out and play against a really good football team at Husky Stadium, in front of our fans and our friends and our family, and to perform in the way that we are capable of performing. I think if we do that, I don't know if that's necessarily going to result in a win or not -- they could perform that their abilities, and who knows what's going to happen. So I think the challenge for us is to embrace the opportunity and then prepare really well. And we've got to prepare really well today, and then worry about tomorrow tomorrow, and Wednesday Wednesday and Thursday Thursday and so on and so forth. . "I think that our team has gotten to that point. We've continually talked about that as we go on and on and continue to move forward as a program: Not to worry about the end results of a season. Don't worry about a bowl game. Don't worry about exposure. Don't worry about awards. Worry about the task at hand and what's in front of us. And this week it happens to be Nebraska." ON THE UNIQUENESS OF NEBRASKA'S DEFENSE: "Well, they're a two-gap defense, and nobody in our conference really plays a two-gap defense, meaning their defensive tackles are playing two gaps, not one, where they're forcing a play. They'll sit and get their hands on offensive linemen. They're big, strong, powerful guys that have the ability to throw linemen to make their plays. And by doing so, they're able to play with a lot of two-high-safeties look, and they can cover down and double coverage guys and it makes it a tough task.'' ON WHAT TO DO SCHEMATICALLY AGAINST SEVEN DBS: "One, you'd like to think you have better odds of running the football, but they hold up pretty well. The minus is, they've got defensive backs not only covering your wide receivers but covering your tight ends and covering your running backs out of the backfield. So they're able to stay close to guys. There's not a lot of error, not a lot of room to throw balls. So there's a real onus on the quarterback to know what coverage it is and anticipate throws and be accurate.'' ON TAYLOR MARTINEZ: "Yeah, I knew him very well. We recruited him; we looked at him hard. He's a tremendous athlete. He led his high school team, Corona Centennial, to a state championship and a 15-0 season. He's a good football player. I actually was at the championship game, the one to win the CIF championship, I went to that ball game. He's a talented kid, a great athlete. I think it was somewhat of a steal for Nebraska because I think so many people viewed him as just an athlete, and possibly people were recruiting him as a safety or different position, and not just a quarterback. It's a credit to Coach Pellini and his staff to really view him as a quarterback. And he's turned out to be a nice player for him.''
  15. Amen brotha.. A healthy Helu is a stud. I can only imagine Helu on OU's offense.. woh..
  16. I said that if we fail to make the Big 12 CCG, it would be a call that rightly deserves a lot of questioning. If you are basing anything on Taylor's performance in these two games, you may want to refer to Lee's pretty unreal torch-at-will Sunbelt tour last year. Highlight performance: 2nd game, Ark St, 27/35, 340 yards, 4 touchdowns, 0 interceptions. Keep in mind we are at the same point in the season. Even now, I would say we are all in wait and see mode, but remember, I am preaching patience for it to work out in this thread I am pointing out that Taylor struggled, but it's going to be okay. Indeed, OL & WR as culprits seem to be recurring themes... There is a lot of talent on this offense. It doesnt even take 20/20 vision to see it. Not everyone is great, but the talent is there. I think three good people should be on the hot seat which seems to be obvious or the past several years (and they are good people, just maybe not the best coaches for this program for what they do). Watson, Cotton, Gilmore Gilmore wants a blocking receiver. Cotton wants his Oline to get mean. Watson wants to be cool with the QB. He has altered and tweaked the offense so much over the past four years that the result is usually the same: Inconsistency, questionable plays, and a identity that is always revolving because week in and week out it doesnt work. Every wonder why that is?
  17. You ignored that our offense put the ball on the turf 8 times today, and made it to the red zone 5 times and only came away with 1 TD and 1 FG. 10 points out of 5 trips to the red zone is pathetic against a defense like Idaho, pathetic. Can it be corrected? Is it too late? How do you correct it?
  18. Thats because they like to sneak it in on ya Personally it can get tiring, and at the same time its good to talk about Husker football good or bad. I just wish there would be a thread on Mondays that was title "I overreacted a bit". People would just jot a few words, like.. its going to be okay, emotions got me. Then we would get on the same page instead of so much anxiety for the perfect game, the perfect season. As for the OP, the last I checked we haven't wont a conference championship lately. We haven't won a BCS game or been invited lately. This team shows promise and is a work in progress. You got to take the good with the bad and enjoy the ride the best you can. I have no problem with fire starters as long as its legit.
  19. Helu has always been a back that gets better with more carries. Example: against VaTech, KU, OU... If he totes the rock 23+ a game you see his effort and toughness & play making ability increase. Glad to see him get 100 today
  20. Why cant all this crap just go away already? The less I hear about USC, Pete Carroll, Reggie Bush, the better. I'm sure they prolly wish the same (but for diff reasons).
  21. I thought Fed EX Field looked amazing the other night when Boise State played VaTech. I'd like to see Nebraska take a shot at UCLA on it. Or Florida State. Or BYU. Or Arkansas. Or Alabama. Any of them as long as both teams ranked and was a can't miss game.
