  1. It's a fair question. I think Dr. Tom will take his time, will interview each candidate, prolly at least 5 to 7. I'm guessing it wont be until sometime in January. Definitely will not be rushed. He wants whats best for the program, the state of Nebraska, tradition, excellence, and a competitive football team. Simple stuff. I do not think the next coach will feel pressured to win, win, win or get out. TO has that calming effect and honest approach to make the guy feel at home. It's up to the next coach to listen, understand, and not try to alienate himself from the program with ego or a launching pad for his career attitude. And I think TO would like to find someone with values and would consider sticking around for 15 years. Tough decision if you ask me.
  2. Some say Defensive Coordinators are either crazy, or have a nut loose. Will Muschamp... Bust It!! Yee Haw!! <unfortunately I could not upload a dynamic image>
  3. Man.. I love those colors on that board. But they dont get the snazzy signatures or avatars like we do.
  4. I havent really followed PJ much. I caught the ending of the Navy/ND game on satellite, and his press conference while traveling. All I can add is that he speaks from the heart and really has a feel for the game and what's going on. And intersting enough, not one time did he answer any reporter with "... in that regard... in terms of... in that aspect... the kids.... " I guess that part doesnt matter. Just so done with Cally it's getting to me.
  5. Apparently excuses can be over looked when it's a Pelini defense. Lets put it a different way. Instead of the "but.." or "the offense turned the ball over".. "The offense didnt move the ball".. "It's the offense fault".., how about giving credit to the other team's defense? I can look at those losses and say with confidence that Missouri, Texas, K-State all played better defense. Thus the turnovers and reason why the NU offense couldnt keep up. But when the other team plays great defense, so should yours. Pelini's defense doesnt deserve a break from that. It's a copout. They didnt do the job it takes to stop the other team from scoring. They are suppose to defend. Not just 80 yards away, but at all times. Those three teams put it to us and the excuses that it wasnt related to Pelini's defense is tiring. I think your research is very well done, statiscally.
  6. LOL! Yah, true true. Definately not a fan of Cally or the crap we keep seeing (same sh!t, different saturday), so I am encouraged there will be a new coach here regardless.
  7. How much money are you willing to bet on it? I have a grand that says he's a HC somewhere next year. Because he's one of the best coordinators out there, he'll get his shot next year as a HC somewhere. It's funny you say defend him when you have nothing to claim he wouldn't make a great HC. He took a pretty miserable D from 2002 and made them one of the best in 03. Look at how his D was statistically at OU. Look at how it's been at LSU. All he does is make a D great. If you ask me, he sounds a lot like another D coordinator once upon a time that was at KState and then Florida! If I've said it once, I've said it 100 times. Great defenses occur when there's an adequate offense that gives them a breather. One of the reasons our D this year is so poor is because our offense seldom if ever wins the time of possession war. We simply go 3 and out. Against KU, the offense gave KU the short field all friggin game. I realize our D is horrible, but they get absolutely no help at all from the offense. In 2003, our D was right around top 10 while our offense was in the 80's. Junior, I will respond but I'm pretty sure we will disagree. Your opinions and insight are usually pretty good. So I will take a shot here. One: I cannot promote a person because of what they did in just one year (2003 defense) here. Had it been over three years, then that would make sense. He did do a decent job at NU. Two: Track record of changing places. He went from NU to OU to LSU. Niice. That tells me he is not up for a challenge, which would mean a university not consistently ranked in the top 10. Maybe in a few years he might run off to Ohio State & beef up the resume even more? In other words, yes he is doing well as a D-Coordinator at the stops he's been at. But I'm not buying into a theory that he changed OU and LSU from stinkbombs to WMDs. It's overrated. Three: No Head Coaching experience means excatly that. I dont sugar coat this. Let the OTJ training start at Iowa State, not at Nebraska. Your last coach (Cally) had no college football experience. And neither did Solich. And if you throw in Osborne, that was over thirty years ago. Let it go. Why take a chance on someone who has never managed a coaching staff, an entire football team, and ran a program and turned it from a team fallen by the wayside to a confident and successful team? My answer is no way ever will I take that risk. Four: I do not particularly care for his showmanship to KSU's Bill Snyder, or his stupid penalty in a bowl game he coached in, or the way he ran down NU to recruits while at OU. This is a reflection of a crybaby that doesnt know how to deal with things that do not go his way. I stay clear from those people. They dont change. They only hide it better. If he becomes a head coach some day, some where, and even if its A&M, okay I dont have a problem with that. I wish him well. I do not think he is going to turn this program around and bring back quality guidance and leadership, winning attitude, chemistry, pride, and embrace former players, the AD for their thoughts & opinons, and teach these young men about football, Husker tradition, the importance of education and life lessons. If he becomes the Head Coach at Nebraska because Dr. Tom believes he is the guy, then I will back him with support 100%. I'll have no trouble becoming humble and saying that I made a misjudment and was wrong. But hell, that has not happened.
  8. I guess the Bo supporters (not all) wanted someone that was different emotionally than Solich, thus the Bogasm. Now they want someone different emotionally than Cally, and insert the Bogart. Lets face it, he's had some stinkbomb games and people are right there to defend him. It was b/c of this, that, or the other thing, but it wasnt Bo's fault. I dont get it. When I hear how fiery and motivating he is, I think those supporters who pout after a Husker loss, want their coach to pout just like them. Memo - a lot of coaches can motivate, inspire, teach, manage a team, a game, other coaches, AND not act like a hot head pekerwad. He deserves nothing more than the next D-Coord position he is running to. Since he cant be a head coach, he'll take his ball home and not play. Boo hoo.
  9. Makes sense to me that he said what he did. Cally is still the coach at this time, and the player is getting PT. A player doesnt want to get involved with rumors. At the end of the season, Cally will be evaluated. Then he'll be gone. Returning players will have to suck it up, step it up, or move out.
  10. I AM NOT KIDDING! SOMEONE DID BREAK MY WINDOW IN KC ON FRIDAY NIGHT BEFORE THE GAME. THEY STOLE MY CELL PHONE AND RADAR DETECTOR. I WAS IN WESTPORT AND LEFT MY HUSKER HAT IN THE WINDOW, SHOWING MY UNFALTERING SUPPORT OF A TEAM WHO NEEDS DIE HARD FANS MORE THAN EVER. THE CRACKHEAD WHO RIPPED ME OFF MUST HAVE SEEN IT AND THOUGHT VISITING HUSKER FANS FOR THE PICKING. Damn. That's sucks! Sorry to hear to hear that happened to you.
  11. Apparently not all Husker fans are on board with the Pelini screamers. The current poll results: 59 votes for Pelini, 45 other than Pelini.
  12. Ganz did very well. It was his first game. As for the overthrows and the picks, that is something that might happen when you take a chance down field. I prefer he takes those chances most of the time. Purify is prolly glad he took those chances. That's evident in the type of game he had. And eventually his (Ganz) accuracy will improve over time. Without the shots taken, say hello to 3 or 4 yard immediate check downs over and over which eventually keeps you from stretching the field. We will see what happens the next few games. It was encouraging.
  13. Thanks HOKC. Yep. Its very obvious. And it will take well spent time to thoroughly interview and hire the right guy. It wont be rushed to find just anyone. Things will be back to good.
  14. I wish people would shut the f##k up about calling these football players "kids"...honestly, you want to go up to any of these football players and call them a "KID"?!?! I'd be pissed if I was a player and heard fans calling me a "KID" I believe the courts say once an individual turn 18 they are no longer juveniles...so quit calling them kids for crying out loud. Damn, you know what though, I think I'm wrong, maybe we should be calling these players "KIDS" because "KIDS" give up when they are playing a game and start to lose...THESE KIDS GIVE UP WHEN THEY GET DOWN (otherwise KU would never be able to put 76 up on a Nebraska team)...period! What doesn't kill them only makes them stronger...stop talking like these "KIDS" are so fragile that some verbal abuse from some insane football fans is going to ruin their lives...they'll be fine Cally calls the Husker players "kids" in his press conference all the time. But he will never call Mizzou, KU, or any other team "kids". It's b/c of his play on words. Feel sorry for "our Kids". Some people prolly buy into it. I guess. He refers to Ball State, USC, Okie State, etc, "great football teams, with outstanding football players". But according to Cally, these Husker "kids" are hurting. I'm not knocking on the players, just something I believe where the term "kids" is coming from.
  15. I was glad NU kept throwing the ball. They were trying to move the ball, trying to score. They didnt duck and hide, and start running out the clock like in the past. I'll take that every time. I guess it's easy to be critical of throwing so much because the success didnt come with it (every time). Damn if you do, damn if you dont. They tried (offensively). Give credit for that.
  16. That some serious in-your-face questions. Damn.
  17. All that means is that he will be the coach until the end of the year. They are only announcing it early what will happen. Dr. Tom does not need to do the same (announce the inevitable before the season ends).
  18. Do not take this literally. Its not an article or statement. The person who wrote that was trying to fill a page and was trying to be funny. Kind of lame.
  19. "LSU talk" doesnt really have anything to do with Nebraska Football.
  20. Florida State, Miami Fla, and Oklahoma definitely fell from the constant top 5-10 to crap. They were absolute power houses man. OU has recovered fully with the right coach.
  21. No. I dont live in the state. I dont get the coverage you do or did. So chill, bud.

    Offense

Its a good question Coach. Obviously they say you cant win if you cant run the ball. The good teams can stop the spread offenses like Mizzou, Tech, Florida. And you have to be able to throw the ball too. I like a traditional I formation, no TE and three wide recievers (spread). The offense should be flexible, so you can use shotgun formation when needed, replace fullback with TE. I would throw the ball downfield, comeback routes, post, and mix in some quick slants when you see it's one on one. A good offense should get 70-80 plays a game. I'm all for 35 passes, 35 rushes. Balance, try to run, but be able to throw successfully when the run is stopped. To me, the slot reciever is the toughest position on defense to cover. Who's going to stop him, a LB? No. That's a mismatch. If they use nickel, then audible and run on them.
