  1. To tell you the truth cmb, thats exactly what it looked like in the 2nd half. They got extremely conservative once they had the big lead and the line just shut down against the blitz. It reminded me of the game we had against Kansas this year.
  2. At least he got to show the scouts that came to the practices what he can do, and he's the kind of guy who should have a good combine as well. Still it sucks that they pretty much squashed every opportunity he had to shine in that game some way or another.
  3. Didn't the Jets draft a pretty decent HB in last years draft?
  4. The other line didn't look that bad, and This line wasn't this bad in the first half either. Its like they forgot how to block off the end.
  5. the playcalling sucks. its either a hand off that goes nowhere or its a pass with no pass pro. Zac has no shot to do anything out there. Best play he's had all game was a block on the reverse.
  6. The tackles sucked on that series. Taylor didn't stand a chance. Ola is being double teamed every play, he helped the OU player off the field earlier and than that next series he came off his block and helped bring the WR down. He needs to get through now and get a sack to give Taylor a shot to not eat turf and play football.
  7. something about that story doesn't seem right to me. He's still listed on Rivals and on Scout as ours and Scout says that they haven't been able to corroborate the story. Also it should be noted that Eggers is mainly a basketball writer for the Trailblazers and has been known to post stories before the facts are in and then once the facts are in he turns out to be wrong. I'm not sayin, I'm just sayin.
  8. Anyone know anything about this guy? Last I heard he was committing to Mississippi State but they pulled his offer because they were full? Is he still an option or are we done in the secondary?
  9. I've been pushing this idea since the beginning of recruiting season. We need that consistent set of hands over the middle and Peterson is capable of being that if he puts on 15-20 lbs. I'm also in favor of the idea to have Glenn play FB (if B-Jax returns)... gets more talent on the field and gives Defenses even more to think about. Having guys that contribute but aren't going to get the start move to other spots to get the most talent on the field at any given time is never a bad thing.
  10. This kid could turn into the next Lawrence Phillips, but he could also turn into the next Emmit Smith... remember Smith had a bit of a troubled past when he was in HS as well and chose Florida over Nebraska...he turned out pretty well and if Devine somehow ends up in Lincoln we should have faith that he will as well. I have enough faith in what I've seen from our staff that they could handle him.
  11. Show these idiots what NU fans are all about once again. We smacked em in the mouth with the "Greatest of all time" poll, lets go for the KO in round 2. ... Vote for Nebraska... er. UN http://sports.espn.go.com/chat/sportsnatio...stranker?id=643
  12. I dunno about this kid, the LJS had an article on this and his HS coach said he wouldn't hesitate to use him from 40-45 yards kicking off a 2 inch tee... that doesn't really give me a lot of confidence in a kid when they don't use a 2 inch tee in college.
  13. The lucky thing about this situation is that we've got a coach who had success at the pro level but than had some failures as well and when the NFL does start calling theres less chance he leaves than would be for other coaches.
  14. The Texas bowl probably would have liked to have picked Texas to play Rutgers but the fact is that the payout to Texas to go to that bowl is MUCH lower than it would for them to go to the Alamo Bowl. Plus the big bowls get preference over the smaller bowls in the teams they get as they get to handpick their matchups while the smaller bowls have to send out invites to teams they want and those teams have to accept. A team won't accept a bid to a smaller bowl if a larger one is available to them. Plus the fact that most of the bowls we are talking about have specific conference tie ins makes the difference as well. The Cotton Bowl is guaranteed to get the 2nd best team in the Big 12 unless they are in the BCS.
  15. I found this on another site and found it quite interesting. The South teams faced two ranked teams (#20 Cal, #9 Boise State), and THREE unranked teams (Minnesota, Iowa, and Alabama). In this years bowl games---the point differential in those games was -29. The North teams faced teams with an AVERAGE ranking of 16.6 (#10 Auburn, #16 Rutgers, and # 24 Oregon State). In those games, the overall point differential was -31. The North had games with relatively the same total margin of victory against MUCH tougher opponents than that of the South.
  16. The problem isn't that the first 15 plays are scripted, the problem is that those 15 plays pretty much show the defense all our packages that we are going to use in that game so when they adjust at halftime they are able to stop everything we could do previously because we simply aren't coming up with anything new. The best way to fix the problem is to show them the packages we want them to see in the first half and than have a second set of packages that are designed to counter their adjustments in the 3rd quarter. Than by the fourth quarter we should be using a combination of the two package groups depending on what their defense is showing us in the situation given. IE: We showed Auburn our packages in the first half that were designed to exploit their man to man coverage but we didn't have any packages ready for the 2nd half to counter their switch to zone coverage. And since it is pretty obvious that if you show a team that you are going to be physical against the man coverage and use the sideline they are going to move to the zone in an attempt to counter so those new packages should have been in place. Expecially considering we had an entire month to prepare.
  17. Just wondering but was it ever confirmed that he wasn't the first choice or that he was way down the list? The only person I recall being mentioned as a candidate that was being looked at before Callahan was Houston Nutt and thats only because he said he was, the University emphatically denied he was a candidate and said he only said he was to get a raise at Arkansas. If he was far down the list, who was it that turned us down before we got him?
  18. My Prediction: Sam Keller dominates all year but gets left off the Heisman balot due to the fact that voters refuse to vote for a "transfer player." The Heisman ends up going to the returning Brian Brohm instead who leads Louisville to a national title game which they end up losing to LSU. Not a prediction but I agree that Peterson probably gets the short end on the WR rotation next year, which is why I think he really needs to hit the weight room and move inside to TE
  19. Lil Red is fine, he just needs to stick to hanging out courtside at the Devaney Center and let Herbie handle the Gridiron duties. The giant blowup doll has no place in Memorial Stadium.
  20. Yeah and how many times did we see Taylor roll out on a bootleg under heavy pressure and make a great throw to a reciever on a crossing route or stand in and make a clutch pass as he's taking a big hit? Most of the guys listed have a great #1 reciever thats at least a Junior, Taylor has relied on 1st year players in a new system... and he does it in a WCO system without that great TE coming across the middle. What Taylor has done in his two years at NU are about as good as anyone could have ever dreamed given the situation, and I believe better than anyone else on that list would have been able to do in his place.
  21. The only way I see us losing more than 2 games next year is if Callahan continues to play with that NFL mentality to put it into cruise control with more than a 17 point lead. If we do that we could see another Okie State type game, otherwise the only losses we should accept at this point would be to USC and possibly another top 5 team in the Fiesta Bowl.
  22. Moore and Carriker weren't Moore and Carriker before they got their chance to shine either. Remember how we thought that it was Wali Muhammad's job to lose or how Carriker's name was projected to end up behind Adam Blankenship or Dontrell Moore and they almost moved Cryer over to BE because they weren't sure anyone else was going to be able to handle the job.... I have a feeling the D-Line will be fine.
  23. "Oldschool" Nebraska football featured the use of trick plays sparingly when the situation allowed for it, including the infamous fumblerooski and WR pass... hell when we started running the Option it was considered by many older fans to be a gimmick offense. We definitely see more trick plays with this administration but its not because we need to use them to win. We use trick plays like any other play in the playbook, if the defense is in a certain alignment that makes a trick play a fairly low risk or high reward play we bring one out. When effective they can really demoralize an opponent and give you a ton of momentum. Being a younger fan you probably don't remember this but Switzer was one of those guys that loved the trick play and used them often at OU and it drove me crazy... to tell you the truth its refreshing to be on the other side of that more often nowadays.
  24. We lost, our coach screwed up and we still haven't gotten that signature win.... but atleast we aren't getting schooled by Boise State on National Television.
