  1. I agree with this. Frost is not ready to be OC but he certainly could help our WR's. Also help the QB's as well. Young up and coming coach is good with the kids and recruits. Hero at NU. Has learned under great other coaches. Need a guy to go out and get top WR talent and he has coached that at Oregon. If anything, he would bring a whole new excitement to our WR corp and get WR's into NU. This makes too much sense to bring him on staff. Maybe Gilmore can go into an admin. role or something.
  2. Rumor: Dana Holgerson on his way to Florida? http://florida.247sports.com/Board/14/What-were-hearing-Dana-Holgorson-to-UF-as-QB-coachOC-433317/1 If this is true, wow, why aren't we in on stuff like this?
  3. Tackled by a committee is a good way to put it. Yes, he's looking for a receiver but usually had time to only look for one option because OU was killing our O-Line and brought pressure fast. TMart needs to know at that point to chuck it out of bounds instead of taking the sacks for devastating losses and fumbles. Maybe we could have rolled him out more. Not sure if it would have helped because OU pressure was coming from everywhere. I wished we had more little screens in the flat for Taylor as a safety valve and use OU's speed and aggressiveness against them...but we couldn't get it done, unfortunately. They were all up on the line of scrimmage and didn't respect that we had any deep threat against them (because we didn't!) Busting 'em with Rex was about the best we could do.
  4. I like Prince but yes, he did have a bad game tonight. Your observations on letting the OU player come back to save Jones was frustrating and I expect more from him. The worst play he made was quite costly when he got beat on 3rd and 24 call...once the OU player has the ball, bring him down so it is like a tough 4th and 6 or 7...instead he tries to wrestle the ball out and lets the OU WR get extra yards...it was then 4th and 1 and OU continued that drive when they should have been done at the 3rd and way long...you can't let them come back from that.
  5. I really didn't think we would win this game so it hurt that much more when I was given hope with the 17-0 lead. The other 3 quarters we were hanging on for dear life. I'm going to try lay things out as plain as I see them. -The defense overall played very well and kept us in this game. As a unit I like our defense but there are issues. -Rex is a gamer and I like the attitude he brings to our team. -Henery is clutch. He is hands down the best kicker in the country. -Kyler Reed and Mike McNeill made some impressive catches. -Not enough pressure on Landry Jones to win this game...everytime Jones was pressured he couldn't make the play. When he had all day, he made big plays in the passing game. Our defensive line is the weakest part of our defense due to inability to bring pressure and also get blown back off the line. I have been harping this all season that we can't get pressure. It cost us tonight. Steinkuhler needs to improve. -I didn't think Prince had a very good game...gave up one of the biggest plays of the night on 3rd and 24 (was it?) when he had the ball carrier stopped well short but tried to wrestle the ball out instead of making the tackle...instead of 4th and 6 it was now 4th and 1 and allowed OU to continue their drive. -Cassidy had good coverage but was burned big. I am not really sure why he is out there? He looked slow on other plays. -David is a liability in coverage and although I like his game, he must improve in coverage. -Turnovers killed us...really surprised to see Roy continuing to fumble...is it in his head? -TMart was not good at all and put the ball on the turf a ton. Don't get me wrong...I like TMart and have been a fan of his...no way we are winning unless he plays so I was OK with that. But you could tell he didn't have the burst needed to beat OU. His decision making was awful taking sacks when there was no need to do so. He locked in on one receiver everytime and made some bad throws...but this was also due to having OU all over him on the snap so he had no time to look at other options. The way the game was going, it would have been OK to change up the QB's tonight to keep OU off-balance. -Maybe the most awful...the O-line. OU completely owned them. They could not pass protect whatsover. Caputo did not play well. Looking for new blood on the O-line because this unit is not getting it done. -The offense overall...cannot perform against top defenses. I have never much weighed in on the Watson situation. If he can get it done, OK...but if we need new blood let's go find some innovative O-Coordinator that can work with our personnel. -Some strikes against Watson...the zone read was not working...why did we continue with it? And why don't we have some plays out of the zone read so there are other options from that formation? OU busts out their diamond formation and moves the ball all over us. Why have we yet to come up with a formation with both Rex and Roy on the field? We better do this next year with Rex and Aaron Green! -Why don't we have any safety valve release to throw to Rex or Roy? That would help when TMart is pressured so then at least he could dump it off. -To Watson's credit, we have used the wildcat effectively and the 4th down pass to McNeill was a great call. -I dunno...we have to be able to move the ball on offense if we are going to beat teams like OU or other tough opponents we will face. Everyone knew TMart was not breaking off an 80 yard run...so what's next? We have have to have other things we can go to that fit the situation. -And we still need top flight WR's with speed...we have no WR with enough speed to make a double move to go deep plus we have no O-line to give our QB enough time! This makes for a huge problem where OU pushes the line of scrimmage and jumps slant routes knowing that's all we can throw. And our offense becomes one dimensional and anemeic like tonight and we pray we will break one zone read to keep us in the game...that is not an offense! -We are overall a very solid team but not an elite program right now. I would say we have shown that we can be an elite defense. But our offense is very sporadic and cannot move the ball against tough defenses. If an offensive coaching shake-up is needed let's do it...we keep the zone read and wildcat but do more out of each of them. We come up with formations that utilize our best players on the field all at once.
  6. Much of this seems like BS so will have to wait to see. Other then using the cell phone at the half I don't believe the rest of it. It doesn't make sense. We saw Bo upset about the cell phone use at the half...OK we got it, get over it. If Taylor was suspended, why does he play in the second half of that game? Why does Bo flat out in his presser say Taylor is not suspended when asked point blank? His comments are something like, "You guys know me...if a player was suspended you know I would tell you a player is suspended." If Taylor was truly suspended Bo could have easily said, yep he violated team policy and thus he sat in the second half...that did not happen either. Or he could have said...yes he is suspended for Colorado and will use the week to heal. Why would Bo cover for a so-called disgruntled player who is going to supposedly rip him when he leaves the program? If the two parties were truly at odds with each other, there is no way Bo would set himself up in this manner if he knew a disgruntled Taylor and his dad were going to leave and provide the so-called "real story" on why he left at that time. Like other posters said, if this was such a big issue, Bo would have already have him leave and not distract the rest of the team. If the boot thing was a joke as the rumor reports, Taylor is only hurting himself pulling a childish stunt like that. That seems like definite BS also. If the rumor is true, both Taylor and Bo look bad in this whole episode...I just can't imagine Bo letting one player overtake the whole team with special treatment.
  7. I am sure it was not an accident.
  8. I predicted a loss in the contest crib because without a healthy QB we will have a tough time putting up points. I also expect the refs to do their thing for the Big 12. So this game could get ugly. I think Stoops knows we will not score a lot on OU so he is going to take some chances in the passing game...a couple TD passes may be all it takes. We have to put pressure on Jones and make him uncomfortable...but I expect OU will move the pocket and put some of those QB runs in there that TX used against us effectively. Then when we figure that out Jones can hit the short passes well. The Blackshirts have to be opportunistic and win turnovers. I expect OU will stack against us to try to take away running game. QB and WR's must put it all together...no dropped balls. How do we win? Effective running behind a good game from the O-Line. A defensive score and special teams score would be huge. We must pass the ball and make big catches in key situations. Win turnover battle.
  9. Thumbs down on the Cards uni's and thumbs down on Whizenhunt as a good coach w/o Kurt Warner.

  10. Latest. We need a another WR recruit that can make an impact. We need Onwuasor or Lucien. http://washington.scout.com/2/1026242.html
  11. It has been a pretty good season. I am getting the game I wanted in NU vs. OU. Unfortunately, I don't think we have a chance in this one. Our starting QB is hurt plus the Big 12 is going to have no part of us beating one of their premier programs left in their conference. I fully expect the refs to play a role in this game. NU 16 OU 30 Air 113 Ground 214 Ways to overcome the officiating: A defensive score and a special teams score would be huge.
  12. Boise State should have waited for their invite into the soon to be lil' 10. They completely blew it. All that respect they had gained just went wide right. It is going to be hard to earn it back in a watered down MWC.
  13. Not so fast, my friend! With Shannon's demise perhaps this kid will take a very serious look at NU?
  14. I can't believe how bad the Gators have become. Holding NU offers are: LB Ryan Shazier - nice offer list and would add depth at LB. DB Nick Waisome - nice prospect who looks like a redshirt and then could become good in our system with all our DB's we play. Also could be in kick/punt return game. I have said before over under on Urban is 2 years. Give these guys a call!
  15. Watching more USC tonight...man are they looking ugly. This is prime time to be making inroads into recruiting SoCal with the seasons USC and UCLA have put together. NU offers that we should still be pursuing. LB Kent Turene - he is from Florida but is a soft verbal...he has to have doubts going across country to play for a program where the luster is off...and the defense has not performed well...I gotta believe Monte will be hanging 'em up soon. LB Tre Madden - kid is from Mission Viejo, a big time program in Orange County, So. CA that would be good to be recruiting. He does not have offers from UCLA or Oregon which compete for USC talent. We may be a good option for this kid. Mike Ekeler is recruiting him. DE Jalen Grimble - from Las Vegas and gave us a serious look.
  16. WR Dorsett and DE Chickillo both have NU offers. We should reach out and get back in touch with both these guys. Miami's class looks lean...not sure if they didn't have a lot of spots to fill this year or if it is only fodder that Shannon's recruiting had dropped off.
  17. This is sort of a crazy thread with a lot of speculation. If the dude can play and is not getting into trouble, then cut him a break. If he was stirring trouble, I think Bo would have a short leash (i.e. last game). If Bo wanted him on a headset, I think he would be on a headset. I have enjoyed watching TMart this year. I don't get too high on the highs or too low on the lows...this is his first full season of game action and I like our offense much better when he is in there to run it. Lee and Green have been model teammates but this offense is going with the style of TMart, Carnes, and Turner into the future! :zoom
  18. Hats off to this guy...made some nice catches...we need some WR's who can do this week in and week out...I had no idea who he was let alone a senior in his last game!
  19. Bama = Choke City

  20. So finally checking out the iPad and sampled it at a store. I had read about the following and needed to see for myself...the iPad does not support Flash! That is a dealbreaker for me and I'll be looking into the Android tablets. In the store the iPad was very responsive to touch screen (I liked that feature) but when I went to espn.com to check out how video looked, nothing would play! As you know, a lot of news and sports sites like espn.com have half their headlines in a video format. Without Flash, those sites are pretty useless! So, I asked the guy in the store and he confirmed that is why I couldn't play the videos. He even admitted it was a bad move by Apple to not support Flash. I know a bit about the situation from googling it...Apple is at war with Adobe Flash and says Flash is not the most compatible with Apple products, slows them down, crashes them, etc. So Apple decided not to support Flash and is pushing other formats. But a lot of websites use Flash so what good is a slick, shiny new iPad when you can't experience the full web?! No way at that price! A couple was standing next to me checking out the iPad and they said they liked their iPhones but they got into the conversation and were surprised to hear about the iPad's "design flaw". Think it soured them on it also.
  21. How 'bout a big old Curb Stomp to give our beleaguered fanbase a nice Thanksgiving weekend!!!
  22. This is probably the most difficult game to pick thus far this year. On one hand I know we are better than CU and should win. On the other hand we have an injured QB plus the referee situation. The referees were blatant in their calls and non-calls last week and I have not been happy about the lack of response we have seen from the top on this situation...instead we sit by and let our coach and program get hammered in the media. There is no reason to believe the shenanigans won't continue. We tough out a victory Friday. NU 23 CU 20 Air 107 Ground 203
  23. I agree with a lot of what BigWillie has to say in his posts above. I actually had a another prior thread on the need for Osborne and Perlman to step up and support Bo. Mods, requesting you merge that thread to this one: http://www.huskerboard.com/index.php?/topic/49013-screwing-nu/ Why are we not taking control of this situation but letting the medial bash Bo and NU on this? The focus needs to be on the travesty that was the officiating. We need stronger support from the top and have muffed this one unfortunately.
  24. I agree with this as best way to address the whole deal. It is a good compromise and ultimately puts the issue squarely back on the horrid officiating to be addressed. Here's what you do. Harvey, TO, and Bo all agree that Bo went over the top and should not have berated the officials in the manner in which he did. He can still have passion and not disrespect the officials or bring negativity to the university. I think Bo can agree to address this in the media, whatever, that he recognizes he went too far, he is sorry about it, etc. From here on keep Bo and the team out of it. But now Harvey and TO must have Bo's back for this to work and must put pressure on the NCAA to look into the biased officiating issues being perpetuated against NU. This puts the focus back on the other issue at hand that the media needs to deal with. Because if this is not done correctly, the media is only going to pick up that Bo was at fault, reflect poorly on NU, and ultimately sour Bo that they don't have his back. If I were Bo I would agree to make amends on this knowing they have his back. This is how the headlines should read: Pelini apologizes for sideline behavior; Perlman, Osborne call for review of Saturday's officiating So, now you read the story and are like, "Cool, glad to see Bo apologize. But hey, so what are they going to now do with this awful officiating! Finally, NCAA needs to look at this!" And now the Big 12 is the target of scrutiny, not Bo...because he already apologized...but will the Big 12? So I posted this yesterday in a thread that is now buried. The above was my opinion on how we handle this. I just watched the whole Bo presser. Bo did a pretty good job. It was a good move to remove Bo from the issue...we have a game Friday and he and the team need to focus. The part near the end when asked about the rumors that the Big 12 is screwing NU was funny watching Bo's response (the guy can't say anything but dang that will make for a good book in about 20 years!). So good job to Bo as he did his part. That being said, I am somewhat disappointed there was not a stronger emphasis on Perlman and Osborne making an inquiry to the Big 12...the response was more ya, we send stuff to the Big 12...same as normal, nothing unusual. We could have easily emphasized that yes definitely we want to understand the Big 12's response...you saw the disparity in penalties, there were critical calls we did not agree with (and while I did not react properly to them on Saturday), Perlman and Osborne have a serious inquiry into the league office about the officiating, etc., etc. They have my back and you can ask them about it...we expect a full response and Perlman and Osborne are handling that. THAT response would have been much better. Sour grapes naysayers will say well what good is that going to do? First, Bo and the team are already using this as motivation, you can bank that. Secondly, this was the worst officiated game I have ever seen in all my years of watching college football. That is how NU fans will always remember it. But right now we are on our heels as the media focuses on this game as the day the Pelini Bros. exploded. The media is missing the other half (and larger half) of the story! We need to step up and handle this corruption and not lie down...Bo is not in a position to do that but Perlman and Osborne can...will they get it done?! So far, I am not seeing that from the presser and that is a sad shame.
