  1. Latest from Husker Journal: APRIL 15 2010. MESSAGE BOARDS KEVIN WILLIAMS, DT, 6-3, 275, 4.9, HOLLAND (SPRINGFIELD), OHIO Catch A Little Football Husker Style “I definitely like Nebraska’s coaching staff and I kind of like to meet with them, get to know how they are in person when I go to their spring game. I like Nebraska’s program too, the defense how they run things I like to see that in person catch a little action.” Williams said “I’m looking forward for the spring game I heard they have tremendous amount of people and support. They (Nebraska) have great tradition everything is football there because it’s the main thing there they have no pro team, I can’t wait to see that.” Williams said Suh Influence “It was one of my biggest factors of my decision. Look at Coach Bo Pelini how many defensive players he sent into the league. By far it’s a no brainer not to be developed by him and be coached by him too. He knows what he is doing.” Williams said “I talk to him (NU assistant-John Papuchis) once or twice a week he’s definitely a cool guy, down to earth and he knows what he’s talking about (football) and relate to what’s going on in my life. So he’s seems like a nice guy I can’t wait to see him.” Williams said Huskers Too Far? “I wouldn’t mind going to Nebraska. I would like to be kind of close but my parents have enough money make it to my games it wouldn’t be a problem. Some kids’ parents may not get in a car and drive 12 hours or make a flight because of finances, so it’s a good thing for us.” Williams said “She About Cried” “Nebraska was my first offer it was exciting getting that first one. Bo contacted my football coach at night two days before Christmas, he actually grew up with Bo back in Youngstown, so my coach called Bo back and he (Bo) told him about my offer. My coach came over the next morning and told me I had an offer from Nebraska, so I gave Coach Bo a call and I’ve kept in touch with him since. When I told my mom about my offer she about cried.” Williams said Visits Big 10 Schools “I just got back from Michigan State the day before that I got back from Wisconsin. I’ve been to Michigan, Ohio State and I’m going to Illinois too.” Williams said “Michigan State was really nice we were with Coach Dantonio the whole time, getting in on some practice close and in person.” Williams said “I learned some defensive techniques at Michigan State like splitting double team; reach blocks, a bunch of little things that can improve my game that you have to master in order to be successful.” Williams said “Wisconsin was really nice it was a great college town, great college atmosphere it was definitely real nice. I felt very comfortable at Madison. “I really liked Michigan it was nice there they have great facilities. Coach Rodriguez is a real cool guy. Michigan has a real great program I could see myself going there and compete in a couple of years.” Williams said Williams said he is going to Illinois spring game April 24 and about two weeks later he will commit.
  2. I will take free publicity (or publicity where the university is paid, even) any day of the week, for any reason as long as it's positive. No high horses around here, you always take what you can get, unless you have reasons not to (I believe Bo does). Usually agree with Bo but not sure why he would not want to take the free NATIONAL publicity. Our place is going to be packed and it is going to be a great atmosphere to showcase NU football and the support of all the fans. I could not believe North Carolina on ESPN the other day for their lousy spring game. I mean that was a joke as it looked like a complete side of their stadium was empty! North Carolina? This is not basketball!
  3. Well we can compete with this and then some. Bo, get this kid here!
  4. Per Nexus. BTW, Josh Turner will NOT be coming to NU on Junior Day. He will be coming up for camp in the summer instead. That way he'll have 3 days to spend in Lincoln versus just 1. This is big time for us!
  5. Mike McNeill to WR. Does this signal that we can expect Chase Harper to be on the field more than we thought as a playmaker at TE?
  6. From Husker Journal: MARCH 17 2010. MESSAGE BOARDS DENZEL PERRYMAN, LB, 6-0, 210, 4.5, CORAL GABLES, FLORIDA “I have 17 offers I need to start narrowing it down soon.” Perryman said Denzel Likes Florida Schools “I went to Florida State Junior Day’s I liked it a lot. Florida State has great history and great coaches. I went around the school met some coaches. I liked Florida State period.” Perryman said “Florida State wants me real bad,” Perryman said. “They want me out there to help the program and they (FSU) told me I will become a better person.” “I’m a Hurricane fan but I’m open minded about picking and choosing. I’ve been to most Miami games the past two years. The fans are really into it very loud atmosphere.” Perryman said Nebraska Offered Last Week “I just got an offer from Nebraska last Friday so I should get something else (mail) coming in.” Perryman said “I like Nebraska a lot they have great history I want to know more about them. I’m undecided if I want to leave the state, Nebraska wouldn’t be too far away.” Perryman said “I also would like to visit Florida and USC. I’m going to visit USC this summer I want to go out there and see what it is like to get out of Florida. See some other states.” Perryman said
  7. Player: Denzel Perryman Hometown: Coral Gables, FL Position: LB Height: 6'0" Weight: 210 lbs. 40 time: 4.5 Visit Date: Scholarships offered: Nebraska, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Tennessee, Auburn, Ole Miss, South Carolina, North Carolina, Texas Tech, UCLA, West Virginia, Boston College, South Florida, Notre Dame, Ohio State Favorites: Miami, Florida State, Florida, Alabama Rankings/Stars: Rivals: Big Red Report: :star Assessing the talent: Likely the best ILB prospect out of the state of Florida. Devastating hitter brings the lumber. ``When he gets near the ball, the play ends,'' Coral Gables coach Joe Montoya said of his junior standout. Montoya says Perryman is a natural to rush the passer with great burst off the edge and the strength to fight off blockers. Odds of becoming a Cornhusker: 10% Lots of big offers. Miami and FSU are recruiting very hard. If we play defense like we did last year, it is going to be hard for these top notch defenders not to look closer at Nebraska.
  8. Looks like there is no room for this guy? Let's get Westerman instead. From Husker Journal: MARCH 19 2010. MESSAGE BOARDS BRENDON AUSTIN, OL, 6-5, 265, 5.5, PARKER (CHAPARRAL), COLORADO Austin has offers from Notre Dame, Colorado, Colorado State, Stanford, Kansas State, California, Arizona, Utah, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and UCLA Ready For ND Trip “I’m really excited about going there (Notre Dame) I really don’t know what to except. Notre Dame has a lot of tradition so I’m excited about it. I really don’t have a favorite team but it will be fun going there.” Austin said “I’m considering Colorado,” Austin said. “They are home team and have good coaches. I’ll just have to see how it goes down the road. I will probably visit them one more time before the whole thing is said and done.” “I definitely like Colorado State. I love their OL Coach (Pat Meyer) he knows what he is talking about. I visited with him a long time when I was us there last January.” Austin said Will Take Trip To Arizona “My little brother has a baseball tournament in Arizona so I’m going down there, University of Arizona. I talk with the OL coach (Bill Bedenbaugh) a little bit he’s a real good guy. I’ll just see what happens when I get down there,” Austin said “It’s warm,” Austin said about considering UofA. “They have a good football team I actually have a friend that is going down there, so I talk to him a little bit.” Austin said Impressed By Stanford “Stanford is a great place I actually visited there a couple weeks ago. I was up there February 27 TH for Junior Day’s. I had a blast there (Stanford) it was really great they have a lot of great coaches. I got to meet some of the professors and they were awesome.” Austin said “I’m going to try to head out to California again over the summer and see all the California schools.” Austin added “I hear from Nebraska a little bit. The thing with them (Nebraska) they already offered a couple of guys and all of them committed so I haven’t got any responses” Austin said Might Commit By Summer “Once I narrow it down and visit some schools one more time, I’ll try to get that done this summer, hopefully make a decision sometime this summer or late summer. Maybe have to push is back beginning of football season.” Austin said “For me it’s all about academics that’s big with me. Feel comfortable with my position coach and with entire school in general.” Austin said
  9. Our defense has made a nice impression. From Husker Journal: MARCH 9 2010. MESSAGE BOARDS MICKEY JOHNSON, DL, 6-1, 300, COVINGTON (ST PAUL’S), LOUISIANA Likes Mississippi Hospitality “I went to Mississippi State Junior Day’s I like the facilities, coaches and the atmosphere there. I liked the people it’s a lot different where I’m from.” Johnson said “I’ve been to Mississippi State Last year. I went to the Houston game it wasn’t as crowed as a SEC game but the fans were into the game.” Johnson said All Schools Equal “I’ve been to LSU its home away from home. I don’t have any favorites they are all equal. I have no pressure to go to LSU. Coach Miles at first wanted me to make up my mind quickly but I told him I wanted to take some visits and talk to my parents about it.” Johnson said Husker Offer “They (Nebraska) offered me last week. Nebraska coach called my coach and said they are going to offer me I talked to him too. Nebraska looked at my film and they liked my size and quickness as a defensive lineman.” Johnson said “That Big Monster Suh" “I like Nebraska they are known for their defensive line-that big monster Suh. I’m thinking about going up there this summer. I’m a big fan of Bo Pelini when he was with Sabin. I like Bo’s defensive schemes and tactics. My dad is a big fan of Nebraska’s defense too.” Johnson said “After watching Suh in the Texas game it was crazy. I have that picture of Suh throwing McCoy down on the ground on my computer screen saver. That game stays in my mind.” Johnson said
  10. Nice article. McShay is just starting to annoy me. This is my favorite: "I win. Suh wins. That awful noise you hear? It's not McShay trying to defend his ranking of McCoy over Suh. It's the fat lady, singing. Because this party's over."
  11. Agreed. Haven't found much that's even close (mods, my address is....) HuskerMax offers different things than we offer. For message boards there's nothing better than HuskerBoard, and frankly it's not even close. There's a reason I'm on here all the time talking to you guys - collectively, we know our stuff, and we make for good conversation. Everyone take a bow. HuskerMax provides some great stats, though, that HuskerBoard doesn't, simply because it's not our focus. I find them useful for supporting facts in a discussion. The facts come from over there, but the discussion happens here. As God intended. I agree with a lot of this. Pedia has some good data facts and links to articles but their boards seemed to have slowed down considerably in last few years. Our recruiting forum completely destroys them. I remember I used to lurk over there on the boards but I don't find nearly as much info. and/or timely info. as I do on our boards. In fact it appears a lot of the topics now start here before Pedia picks up on them. From lurking their board now, it would appear their members are going to move in mass to the new site to support the originators. So, my bet is Pedia slowly dies (esepcially if no one is posting there!) and while Max will probably have to come up with different look, name, etc. their members will end up over there. Anyway, I hope it all works out for them. Good site but different than ours now for past few years. GBR
  12. Yep, I watched the bobsled...congrats Curt and team! Do !
  13. From Husker Journal: FEBRUARY 28 2010. MESSAGE BOARDS NICO ORNELAS, LB, 6-3, 190, 4.6, NORTH RICHLAND HILLS (RICHLAND), TEXAS Nico has offers from Kansas, Nebraska and Arkansas Spring Games “I’m going to Kansas for the spring game and I’m trying to go to Arkansas. There is a lot of Junior Day’s so I got to figure it out.” Ornelas said Will Visit KU “I’ve haven’t actually been up there (Kansas) my coach is from there and he liked it. I got an offer from Kansas so I’m going to go and see how it is.” Ornelas said “Kansas told my coach that they offered me and they ended up sending me a letter. I called them the other weekend and we were just talking how they were really interested in me and looking forward of me coming to their spring game.” Ornelas said Trip To NU Uncertain “I’ll probably go to Nebraska,” Ornelas said. “I just need to figure out when. Faraway places I have a lot to plan. I play track, baseball, indoor soccer so I got to get it all figured out. I have to talk to the Nebraska coaches and see what would be a good time and for my schedule.” “Nebraska was my first offer I was excited about it. I got the offer during the season I didn’t know I was getting that much attention so I was pretty excited.” Ornelas said Met Coach Beck “Nebraska coach (Beck) came before one of my games they (Beck and HS Coach) were looking at my highlight film and Coach Beck told my coach that they (Nebraska) were going to offer me. Then my coach told me Nebraska was going to offer me and I happened to be there. I introduced myself and Coach Beck gave me his card and stuff.” Ornelas said “Nebraska is big on defense like the Blackshirts it would be an honor to go there. He’s (Bo Pelini) has done a lot of stuff there and I know they have a lot of diehard fans.” Ornelas said “I like Arkansas because of the SEC and one of my teammates got an offer from them too. I heard Arkansas has a really nice campus that’s all I know about them now. I’ll still have to see them.” Ornelas said Like To Play In Texas “I’m trying to get offers close to home for my family and stuff. I kind of like Texas (In State Schools) I’m used to their weather so I have to see what’s ahead for me with other offers.” Ornelas said “I would like to hear from TCU or Texas A&M,” Ornelas said. “I mean they all have sent me letters but they really haven’t contacted me. I’ve been to A&M for Junior Day’s and went to their game against Texas Thanksgiving day. I’m trying to get offers from both of these schools.” “I just go in my hard copies (highlight films). The online links I heard colleges don’t look at them, just hard copies only. I got to go down and take them to TCU I might send one to Oklahoma. A&M has already got mine but I’m not sure.” Ornelas said.
  14. Let's hope West improves because he needs to do so. He is a weak link in our secondary and I cringe when he is in the game as he gets burned a lot. Let's hope he proves all the naysayers wrong and can have a good year.
  15. Good film shows a lot of natural ability. No doubt Pelini's could really coach this guy to a high level. Dude is already throwing the bones so he is a natural fit for NU!
  16. Will be tough to get. Both his father and grandfather played at Miami. He won defensive MVP at a Miami camp.
  17. I almost have to consider that perhaps the most impressive job done was with the secondary. Do you remember how badly we would get torched consistently under the old coaching staff? O'Hanlon is night and day with the Pelini's vs. those other guys. Prince and Dennard doing a great job. We got a good final year out of Asante. And I really liked Gomes on the field. I think Hagg still needs to get better and can do so. Looking forward to return of Blue and Thenarse. And of course the emergence of P.J. Smith!
  18. From Husker Journal: FEBRUARY 10 2010. MESSAGE BOARDS CEDRIC REED, DE, 6-5, 240, 4.8, CLEVELAND, TEXAS Cedric has offers from several school some including, Arkansas, LSU, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Stanford, Texas A&M. No Texas Offer Yet “I don’t have an offer from Texas,” Reed said. “I’m going to their Junior Day’s February 13 and they might offer me then. If I do get an offer I still plan on taking all my five visits, go through the recruiting process.” More Junior Day’s Planned “I went to Texas A&M Junior Days and I plan on going to Oklahoma’s. I liked it at Texas A&M it was nice I met some the coaches and I like the area a lot. I got to meet some of the players that I know on the team now.” “I don’t know too much about Oklahoma they do have a great tradition and the coaching staff is very good.” “Did A Great Job With Suh” “I do hear from Nebraska,” says Reed. “They are one of my top schools but I haven’t trimmed my list yet. I’m wide open I like all schools but Nebraska has great coaches they did a great job with Suh.”
  19. Welcome, HB is the best board around!
  20. Seemed to be a down year for commercials. Doritos had some OK ones. I thought E-Trade should have used the original baby but that one with the baby boy and girl and the other baby girl at the end was funny. Miny Polamalu was memorable. Snickers/Betty White pretty good. Bud Light one with the funny dance robot voice thing was their best one. Dodge Charger deserved a smile. So did Hyundai with Brett Favre in 2020.
  21. I really have concern on the @Washington and @Okla State games as games we can get beat in the opponent's house. Texas is going to be huge. We have to win 2 out of 3 of these games if we want to make BCS. Mizzou will also be another good game.
  22. Nicks is solid on the Saints OL. Shanle got a lot of camera time in the thick of the Saints defense. Still seems to be a touch behind in coverage at times but he did make some key plays in the game including that deflection. Congrats to both of these former Huskers!
  23. Carnes is a redshirt and surprised if he does not. Offense found a good identity in the Holiday Bowl and Lee should come back stronger. Also, I expect Green to be a lot better (he was a true freshman and put in some tough spots). Those are your two guys. We need to find a WR that will emerge and help our QB's. If Paul, Kinnie, and McNeill can be key in our passing game that will help our QB's immensely. Gilleylen is an X factor for me...we saw in the bowl game we wanted to get him the ball but so far has not worked out with him. He could really help next year if he can finally get it to click and make some key catches. I love Roy and Rex in the back field and the wild cob we ran as well. Give Tray some opportunities to pound the rock also.
