  1. From Husker Journal: DECEMBER 1 2009. MESSAGE BOARDS DANNY SPOND, ATH, 6-3, 230, 4.6, LITTLETON (COLUMBINE), COLORADO Opened Up Recruitment “I’ve heard from some schools,” said Spond who just de-committed from Colorado, “I’ve recently heard from University of Stanford (offer) again other than that not too many just because my de-commitment has been so recent. I plan on looking into some schools that have contacted me in the past spark their relationship again and see where that goes.” “I’m trying with UCLA I’ve talked to Southern Cal, Alabama, Oregon and Arizona State. I haven’t been offered to all these schools I just talked to them quite a bit before I committed to Colorado. I sent some films to University of Tennessee, UCLA and TCU.” Spond said Enjoyed Stanford Visit “Besides the way their (Stanford) program is going this year, I’ve been out there a couple of times. Stanford is just a classy type of team. The coaches care about their players, but at the same time they are winning and they know how to get it done right now.” Spond said “I took an unofficial (Stanford) for junior days back in the summer I visited the campus and everything. I really loved it its beautiful. I liked it quite a bit it’s such a beautiful campus. The stadium is one of a kind that’s for sure. Playing there would be quite the honor for anybody.” Spond said “I’ve talked to coach Durkin and also coach Harbaugh quite a bit the past couple of weeks, exchanged conversations and stuff.” Spond said “I definitely will go to Stanford on an official,” Spond said, “I’m not exactly when but try to work in my schedule as well as theirs. The best time take an official out there.” Colorado Situation “Beginning of the year they (Colorado) had a whole different vibe where I thought the program was going and it ended up something where It wouldn’t be stable for a couple of years. I wanted to be at a college for four years and with all the stuff going on with Hawkins it would be pretty tough with a new coach.” Spond said Huskers’ Interest “Nebraska (no offer) has not contacted me yet I would say it’s too early I just de-committed last Saturday. What I plan on doing is making phone calls to previous coaches and see what is going on.” Spond said “I’ve talked to them (Nebraska) in the past and everything. They are another program that I’m interested in. I actually went the CU and Nebraska game this past weekend. I really like how that (Nebraska) program is moving.” Spond said “I played quarterback on my high school team. I’m being recruited a lot to play linebacker, safety and tight end. I like quarterback but if I have to play another position that’s fine.” Spond said Spond said he will take his entire five visits before a decision is made. He has no leader.
  2. Would love to have him here...I would not be surprised if he commits soon.
  3. Hey HANC...I may be interested in doing the same in getting some Holiday Bowl tix and then returning them if we don't end up there. What is refund policy? Full refund? Looked a bit at the Holiday Bowl website but didn't see any policy listed. Can you provide link?
  4. Meh...I have watched GA Tech a few times this year and have not been impressed.
  5. First and foremost, I want the Fiesta cuz that means we beat Texas. But actually watching OU vs. OSU today makes me think if we don't beat Texas we will go to the Cotton vs. LSU...that would have some good storylines with Bo going against his old employer. Guess you could say the same thing with Miles going against his old team if it is LSU vs. OSU. But OSU looked bad getting shutout so I am of the opinion that Cotton Bowl will take the Huskers if we lose seeing us as the next best Big 12 team to take (unless we are absolutely pitiful representing the Big 12 North in the Championship). If we end up in the Holiday Bowl, I am close enough that I could possibly go. I actually would want to play Stanford. First, I saw us play USC at the Coliseum a few years ago so be good to see another team. Second, USC is not having a good year and to beat USC this year would still be awesome for Husker fans but not a big deal really elsewhere. I am in SoCal and people realize USC is down this year and have lost some of their luster. Stanford on the other hand has a ton of buzz as this being their best year in a long time. QB Luck is a good one and Gerhart is Heisman contender. It would be Suh vs. Gerhart. Harbaugh is also very annoying and would be sure to stoke some pre-game hype and angst. Harbaugh and Bo would have to naturally hate each other with one having played at Michigan and the other at Ohio State. Stanford's offense is fun to watch and I think we could run our offense like Stanford and be successful. Holiday vs. Stanford could actually be a very good game.
  6. There is a lot to get done to win this game. Few things I will throw out: Defense: Last few games our D-Line has been letting the QB escape pressure too much. Some of these other QB's we have played may still throw incomplete or gain a few yards...with TX these will turn into big yardage plays because of their personnel. We need to get the QB down on the ground. We must disrupt McCoy in every way possible. And we must not let him escape and take off running for big yards or chuck it and make big yards on busted plays. Take away Shipley and make him throw elsewhere. Offense: Full team effort. It starts with the line...open up holes for Helu and Rex and we can make it a game. Throw in some new wrinkles in the passing game. Gotta throw for some first downs. We need a WR that wants the ball in this game and can be a factor on offense otherwise TX will crowd us and stop our run. Use the TE. Be smart and don't turn it over or take big losses. Let Henery punt and pin 'em back. Special teams: We have to make the kicks and punts. Cover their returners or just let their return people never get a ball to return. We need a big special teams play like punt block or return for big yards/TD. If TX wins the special teams we are in deep trouble.
  7. Glad to see we got the W. Buffs always seem to play us tough. My thoughts: Nice punt return from Paul, INT for 6 by O'Hanlon, throw from Lee to Cotton. Rex had a very good game. Roy did enough but would have liked to see him break one. I thought the O-Line did better. Defense again was the factor. Punts from Henery were great. Thought Suh played well and so did Prince. Great tackle by Turner to save what seemed like easy first down (we need that hustle from him). Gomes got INT and I like his play. I do like watching young guys like Compton and Meredith but you can tell they are very raw...can only get better. Disappointed again today with the offense...it still is just not moving the ball or putting fear in any defense...that being said, I was OK with the gameplan to grind out with run today and just let CU not get close enough. Where has Crick been lately? We need a big game from him next week! And Hagg and Fisher did not play well at all today...weak links on pretty good defensive effort. Asante? I say keep it up, kid. The announcers went way overboard calling for ejection when he barely touched the guy out of bounds. Yes, Asante has had some bang bang plays where he gets flagged but I have seen nothing to date that would warrant him being ejected from the game. I like that he is an intimidator and aggressive player. Now that he is that player we always had wanted, let's not ask him to tone it down. I am hoping he blows up some TX players next week...he is a hitter we need back there. Who liked the call of Henery going for the 50 yarder? On one hand I was like, ok go for it because he is a good kicker and he is in altitude in Boulder. But on the other hand 50 yarder is no gimme so if he misses it then momentum switches to CU and they finally get decent field position to score (which they did). I was sort of pissed at first we let CU back in it but the more I thought about it, Henery has earned right to try that kick. My scream at the TV moment...why the hell did we not challenge the Helu fumble? That was bonehead not to challenge it. I ran the play back numerous times and Helu's knee was down and then the ball comes out. Very shocking we did not challenge and CU ripped off a big run immediately after that. We got to be on top of that because it nearly changed the game if CU gets points on that drive off a bad call. Sure there will be numerous threads this week...but I haven't figured out my scenario yet on how we can beat TX. The offense is in big trouble vs. Texas unless we can put it together this week and find some major holes to exploit with Texas. I am having trouble figuring out how our offense can put up double digits on TX.
  8. As far as the north goes, I would say they are our rival. OU and TX are bigger rivals but CU is a rival in the north more so than the other north teams. GBR
  9. A local sports radio show in So. Cal was interviewing former Notre Dame and Oakland Raiders WR Tim Brown today and had him comment on Charlie Weis. He agreed Weis did not get the job done at Notre Dame and went on to say it is one thing to criticize the coaching performance but he thought some people take it too far and pile on. He then made comments that if he had wanted, he could have killed any future coaching opportunity for Bill Callahan when he left the Raiders but that he could not do it because it was not up to him to ruin Callahan's family (he made some comments about playing catch with Callahan's sons at practice and he could not bring himself to ruin a family). Sort of interesting looking back in hindsight. Not sure how much info. we solicited from Oakland at that time. Discuss!
  10. This was easily noticed against KSU with Banks and also Meier did it when we played KU. We cannot leave the middle wide open like this. I noticed Dillard went to the wrong guy a lot in coverage IMO and left the middle open underneath. I expect for CU to expose this so this will be a good week to see if we can fix this. We have to fix it before TX because TX will absolutely kill us with this middle underneath route in space. And yes I want Dennard back...he and Prince have done well at CB this year and we need them both to win next two games.
  11. Is this the new "Wild Cob" we are going to run on Texas? Suh-weeeeeeeeet!!!
  12. Congrats to our Huskers! We won the Big 12 North...that is an achievement as we had a low point in the middle of our season...since that time I have been willing to take any wins we can get. Again, props to the defense who did not break this game. It is obvious the offense is rebuilding and had some injuries throughout the season. I was not too fearful of playing KSU at home. We had better be ready for CU because Friday's game is the whole enchilada season for CU. Good to see Burkhead back...he could give our offense a new wrinkle. Lee managed the game as he needed to except for the dreadful back to back plays leading to the INT. Rolling out to his left and locking on one option is not a good play call anyway IMO. That play was meant for disaster when he took the huge sack loss. Can we please also just get rid of running the option with Lee...anyone know avg. yards on that play throughout the year...I am guessing it is negative? Lee running is not putting any fear in the defense whatsoever. We do run that play where he fakes the option and pulls out to throw...I do like that play although we got CB blitzed on it tonight. The O-Line needs to create some bigger holes and I think we can get some bust outs on the run...I will take the 3-4 yard running plays from Helu. Paul is doing much better of late...great for him. Good things will happen if we use McNeill and our TE's. I am starting to think Kinnie can be a good WR for us...hope to see him get better. For parts of the game Suh looked gassed but got the job done when needed. Dillard was hot and cold tonight...had some big plays but also was horribly out of position at times. No Dennard at all? What is the latest? Dennard is way better than West. West is a serviceable guy on the depth chart but teams go right after him when he is in. Henery is the man with the coffin corner punts! In CU and TX we are going to have QB's that can run out of the pocket for yards...last two weeks KU and KSU gave us some problems with this and at times KU and KSU showed they could run on us. We need to figure out some fixes on defense for these games. In order to win next two games, we are going to have to keep scores against us low. I don't think we are scoring 30 points in a game the remainder of the year. Our defense, kicking, punting is our strength to win games. Offense cannot turn the ball over and we cannot give up big plays on kick and punt returns. We field positioned KSU fairly good and they only scored 3. I will take that! As long as we win week after week, I will take it...definitely this year our team and coach are about grinding out the W's with defense, yes I'd like to see the offense get better. Besides, there is no guarantee an inspiring win is getting you anything the next week (see Stanford for most recent example).
  13. From Husker Journal: NOVEMBER 20 2009. MESSAGE BOARDS ANTHONY WHITE, DL, 6-3, 305, FORT SCOTT J.C. KANSAS JUCO’S To Visit NU “I’m taking an official visit to Nebraska this Saturday. I’m going up there with a couple of my teammates (Hardwick and David).” White said No Husker Offer Yet “Nebraska hasn’t offered me I don’t have a clue if they will. If they (Nebraska) do offer me I’ll probably wait (commit) I’m not positive yet. The coaches just wanted to know if I wanted to come up there for an official.” White said “I’m friends with Brandon Kinnie who is there (Nebraska) now and he really likes it. Brandon said it’s a good school. I talk to him once in awhile.” White said “Nebraska Likes My Abilities” “My defensive lineman coach told me Nebraska likes my abilities.” White said, “Coach Beck (Nebraska) came up and talked to me for about five minutes before the Butler game, he was by last spring too.” The Battle Creek Central standout said.” White said he has three to play three and is a May graduate.
  14. This kid has to take interest in NU once Weis is rolled out of town.
  15. Surprised to see he is headed to BC but best wishes to him. I was really thinking this kid could do well here and be a go to guy like a Nate Swift. We really need guys here that can catch the ball and have a nose for first downs...Bobby struck me as that kind of player. I am thinking this means we have to get at least one of the WR's prospects that were here vs. OU?
  16. Yep, you are mistaken on this one but I had gotten them confused earlier as well...you are talking about DE Chance Carter who did end up at Northwestern...similar sounding names!
  17. I have been dreading this game all year. I know this one will be tough to pull out a win on the road. Kansas has got some gamers in Reesing, Briscoe, Meier, and Sharp...these guys are smart veterans and will be competing all day against our defense and sadly if we get behind, we may not be able to catch up (see Texas Tech loss). If Kansas gets 20 points, they can win it. That's the thing now...our defense has to play mistake free football to win. This was unreal vs. OU but I don't expect us to never give up a big play rest of the year. We need to put some scores up on Kansas. I am not putting my score up in the prediction contest right now because I don't like it right now. We get all amped up after beating OU but 10 points will not beat Kansas at their place. Major trap game to bring us down to earth. Hope this doesn't happen. Need some to put my prediction up later in the contest forum. We need to finally get that game where we bust out and put it all together on offense against a B12 opponent...like 4th qtr vs. Mizzou...but little did we know Mizzou is back to garbage this year!
  18. Bo went off on Watson. I'm not a lip reader, but it was pretty obvious he asked Watson "What the F*&% was that?" and Watson screamed back "It was a F&%$ing audible!" So they both laid into Lee. As for the pitch, as a former high school coach, we never wanted the pitch at the running back's face or above his shoulders. It looked like Helu and Lee didn't have the right spacing, 3 yards away but 3 yards behind, and the pitch is out in front of the running back so he can run into it. I wonder what the original play call was. Helu into the line is my guess. Helu out wide gives Henery a pretty tough angle for the FG. Could be that Lee changed the play and so both were ticked at Lee not wanting to run that play knowing Roy is not 100% and could have trouble with the pitch. High risk play with little chance of success and it went all wrong and we needed points desperately...yep, that will get you the wrath of Bo right there.
  19. Continue to start Green and see how he plays. We need him to get better. Managed the game on the road at Baylor. OU defense is tough for any QB let alone a newbie and it showed...I didn't mind Lee coming in for OU to manage what he did. Waiting for it to click more with Green and see him bust out...if it doesn't happen, then we have Lee. As original poster said, 2 QB system until someone shows they are the clear #1. But my preference is to play Green as much as possible to see if he can put some more things together for the offense.
  20. I am guessing CB Joshua Mitchell. I am also now very hopeful on DT Jay Guy. Should be a great week to see what happens with recruiting. Two that I thought plus Tobi! Props to me!
