  1. I'd look at plucking someone from the NFL as well.
  2. Good thread here we should keep open and get ideas as long as our defense continues to play so poorly. I'll go with a longshot...Ken Norton Jr. from USC. Not a lot of coaching experience...he has been the linebackers coach at USC last few years. But, he is a former NFL all pro and 3 time Super Bowl winner...he has also had the benefit of learning under Carroll. Seems to have a great relationship with the USC players and players like to play for him. Would bring a lot of passion to the position (which I think we need badly).
  3. I voted for "at end of year". I said in another post that I don't realistically know if we can fire in mid-season...have other programs ever done this type of thing with success? So, my solution was to send the message from the top to Cally and Cosgrove NOW that the defense must turn around or Cosgrove and defensive staff will go at end of year. This allows Cally opportunity to save his friend's job. If they don't turn it around, they have been forewarned and I think Cally would support a change on the defense if it continues to be as awful as it has been.
  4. This is not Callahan's deal. But the post above that his loyalty to Cosgrove is a problem, is right. Callahan's offense is the best it has looked during his time here. Keller is doing a great job. The receivers are doing a better job...TE's are catching some key passes. Running game seems to be stuck somewhat but seems mostly due to our O-line getting owned (our O-line must improve). The injury to Glenn hurts us in the running game. Here's what I see happening. With our schedule, it is likely that our defense is going to suffer another 3 or 4 of these horrendous performances. If so, Cosgrove and the entire defensive staff will be gone at season's end. So, we need to look now at what D-Coordinators are out there that can bring in their entire defensive staff to resurrect the Blackshirts and get college age players to be hungry and passionate about playing defense. I don't think it would be fair for a D-Coordinator to come here and not be able to bring in their own staff (i.e. replace Cosgrove only), especially because the entire eye of Husker Nation will be looking to them to save our defense. We need someone who is up to the challenge knowing this is a great opportunity...the weak need not apply. So, Callahan's instructions from the top should be...hey, if you want your friend Cosgrove and his staff to keep their jobs, then you must find a way to turn around this brutal defense. Send the message now...do not wait for more of these types of games. That is reasonable...Callahan and Cosgrove MUST show they can turn it around...or expectation would be Cosgrove and defensive staff is out. The only question I have for those who want Cosgrove out immediately is...who do you bring in mid-season? Is there an example of this being done successfully at other programs? I too am upset with the job Cosgrove is doing...but realistically I don't think he can be canned mid-season... Our defense is the huge liability. The offensive is doing well and if we had a defense that was playing at a B level or better (instead of the current grade of F), I think we'd be a BCS team this year as Keller has shown he plays to win.
  5. I don't blame Keller...he's trying to get us outta this s#@!hole the defense has put us in.
  6. check out the chat...more are joining in to get good conversation. Nice job Blackshirtsguru!
  7. Nice job...we had some good offensive plays in the game. Keller put it together some. Even though our defense got demolished, I wonder how many other teams will put up 31 points on USC?
  8. I think they tried to do too much in this latest version but still thought it was a good effort. I'm sure the players got a kick out of being in a video but it was a bit corny (no pun intended). Sirius rules...don't mess with it too much. If you want to do some music before Sirius then show clips of great plays, defensive hits, etc. I do like the part of how the statue of the football players came alive and then right as Sirius started you could see all the white helmets in a pod like formation in the dark. The "I Play For Nebraska" theme works in the right situation but probably best as a graphic rather than players saying it like last year. I actually don't like the individual players acting or saying lines...reminds me of an advertisement at a baseball game where the home team players pitch stuff on the screen between innings...for football I like that they are all represented in a team unit (again all the white helmets in the dark was cool). Our graphics people should be able to do some creative stuff with the opponent's logo or helmet like in year's past. How about our national championship trophies smash the opponent's helmet, a skull & bones blackshirts logo casts the other team's helmet into hell, a team of mad corn stampedes the opponents logo...quick fun stuff like that works (graphics that can be updated each home game appropriately). My formula: 1) Show great plays/historical moments and defensive hits to get crowd going and build excitement set to appropriate music. Fade out. 2) Go to dark screen and start Sirius. 3) As in year's past use creative graphics either with images and/or words. 4) Cut to team in tunnel. 5) Team should break down doors to field for finale. It bothers me that there is all this excitement and team is charging through tunnell and then the doors open slowly and it seems it is always like "wait here for the TV crew to get their shot!" Seems to break the momentum. Instead have the doors fly open and the team charge out. Or have the doors opening by the time the team gets there so they don't stop for this lame photo opp moment. Just a pet peeve of mine...it's like "we are all pumped to go crush the other team...but could you wait here and all smile and get closer together for this picture, please?!"

  10. Did he make his visit last game? I hadn't heard anything about him and I really like this kid. Good size and speed.
  11. Article says our defense was scared? I don't like this and we better get our mojo back ASAP! http://www.dailynews.com/usc/ci_6923009
  12. Yes, there was not a lot of positives to take away from our loss to USC. But Keller had a good game in a losing effort. I enjoyed watching Keller give it his all until the end. Gameball for Sam. Link: http://www.insidesocal.com/usc/ Cracking The Top 10 Nebraska quarterback Sam Keller's 389 yards passing was the seventh-most allowed by a USC defense in school history. Keller surpassed UCLA QB John Barnes' 385 yards in 1992 but fell short of Wisconsin QB Ron VanderKelen's 401 in 1963.
  13. Welcome, Kyler! We need more athletes on the field and he appears that he could potentially play various positions. Seems as if we may be hedging our bet some with Demens though (which I don't like...nothing against Reed but I wonder if this is bad news regarding Demens? Reed is our insurance? We can win the recruiting battles against KSU but we need to start taking more recruits from Michigan, OU, Texas, USC, the SEC, etc....we have won some but not nearly enough).
  14. Just make the entire defense's jobs up for grabs this week. If you compete well, you get the start. If you perform well in the game, you get to keep playing. If not, we always have the former starter to go back to. This game at home vs. Ball St. is great opportunity. Brandenburgh and Thenarse should definitely start on defense IMO. Brandenburgh is not the fastest but at least he can tackle correctly. Thenarse is one of the few defensive playmakers we have and we definitely need playmakers on defense.
  15. Was TR at the game on Saturday? We need him N. Notre Dame has got really, really big problems and I can't imagine he'd sign up for that when he could be part of the special class we are putting together. Let's get him N!
  16. Kuli is #1 on Rivals Juco Top 50. Thompson is #5...we need both these guys in a bad way! The fact that we need D-line help right away and these guys could play quickly here should play in our favor. I know Thompson has interest in LSU and Ohio State but I think he sees the field right away here at Nebraska and not at those other schools. Kuli has interest in A&M and I think we win head to head vs. A&M. Kuli would also play right away here. These two guys might be the most needed recruits we need to get in this class. I love the way our class is taking shape but we need D-line help...I like the DE's we are getting but other than Parish, we don't really have any bulk/push up front D-line guys...we need Kuli and Thompson!
