  1. There've been times I've thought Carl was the better DC...Don't remember which game I rewatched last year? But even the announcers kept praising our secondary mixing Zone and Man and totally confusing whoever it was we were playing. Our Defense seemed to go downhill after Carl was gone...Probably mainly due to Clownahan's recruits using up their eligibility. Bo was somewhat entertaining on the sidelines, but worthless when he got really mad.
  2. I'd most likely pull for the Chefs in honor of my Aunt Barb..A season ticket holder during their first decade...But I suspect Neil Smith and Will Shields no longer are with the team.
  3. Actually, I mostly stopped watching the NFL after Jamie Williams retired.
  4. Wish they'd pass more to Jamie Williams.. And why doesn't Tom Rathman, Doug Dubose, or Roger Craig get many carries any more? Have they traded Willie Harper, Jay Moore, or Bill Lafleur yet? Shame that Niles Paul took that massive hit against the Giants ...or that Osborne fella barely contributed... And Lawrence Phillips' lack of pass blocking skills might soon end Steve Young's career.
  5. I'm not even convinced they were the best team in a weak 2001.. With THAT much future NFL (Pro Bowl) talent playing against the Big East, they should've been able to name their scores...Even WITH Uncle Fester coaching them... I don't remember paying much attention to them until around mid season, The games that stuck out to me and made me think we somehow had a chance with them even though we were one dimensional and after we'd gotten blown out by Colorado 62-36..
  6. I don't think ''Smashmouth'' will ever be much of an option anymore...I loved leading with my head to break up wedges, And still having clete marks from Jay Novacek on my back but that sort of stuff will get you kicked out of the game now..(And CTE when you get to be my age)...I don't even like watching it as much as I used to (to my shock).. Sometimes I Thought SF and Callahan set up their Defenses to fail..In the latest case. mainly to get the Offense more chances to get on the field to score. I don't necessarily think we need a sudden change in scheme (maybe), but different variations from a second set of eyes...Maybe we can stop being so secretive about injuries and concentrate on hiding information on who's calling the plays after halftime. ''Clone'' was probably a poor choice of words.. But what set us apart from teams that usually ranked higher than us in recruiting rankings, was our ability to innovate...Be that from visiting other coaches' clinics (Bowden), or breaking down film (By our Defensive coaches). I guess my initial reaction was fear we would have a harder time evolving with too similar of mindset.. The next successful evolution will be more likely to come from some sort of hybridization than solely from a ''Yes Man'' environment..
  7. NEBRASKA, UNDER TOM OSBORNE, STARTS TO SEE REAL SUCCESS FROM A WISHBONE AND I-FORMATION FUSION Interesting read.. I've often wondered how we seemed to be better than we should be (Given our population base)...Thought it was mainly because we pioneered the Weight lifting and Nutrition programs, maybe along with creative use of Performance Enhancing Drugs...Or unlimited scholarships back in the day, so we could recruit most of our opponents' targets and sit them...Bob Devaney learning from Duffy Daugherty and being a pioneer in integrating a greater number than anyone in the South... Wonder if we can create the ''Next Big Thing'' as Football hurtles toward Two Touch or eventually gets eliminated..
  8. I still am thinking 2001 Miami is constantly overrated... Amazing, a team that was THAT loaded with future NFL talent underwhelmed so often during the season..These are the greatest TEAMS. 2001 Miami and 2019 LSU had the most TALENTED teams. but I'd take most of these top 10 teams over 2001 Miami.. Seems hard to compare teams from different decades with the rule changes ..Holding now being pretty much allowed on the line. Smash Mouth hits now getting a one game suspension, Less of a team sport. Too heavy a reliance on QB play resulting in less consistency and more probability of the occasional upset when the QB gets hot.
  9. For? Hiring another OC clone that will probably be as predictable at play calling (if allowed to even call plays)? I haven't given up on SF yet, but I'm also hoping he prioritizes the Defensive side of the ball sometime soon..(Some of the new recruits were a pleasant surprise, though). I accidently clicked on one of those slideshow things ''Worst College Football Coaches Of All Time'' today.. . I thought the same thing about Callahan back in the day, but it sort of reminded me of our worst case scenario with some of our current staff...Hopefully we can replace the word ''NEVER'' and our fanbase can stop writing, ''Once he gets his players here".
  10. Sounded like 8 or 9 from this game are going to play for Oregon next season.
  11. Dominick Raiola was inducted to the Polynesian? HOF during halftime. I'd forgotten he was the 1st Rimmington Trophy winner..
  12. Something I've often wondered...Why are so many people so afraid of hypocrisy? Aren't there worse sins?
  13. 2020 Polynesian Bowl Date Sat • Jan 18 • 7:00 PM Venue Aloha StadiumHonolulu, HI Live on CBS Sports Network https://www.polynesianbowl.com/
  14. Doesn't look like anybody has yet, but sounds like a diamond in the rough...er..pooper...But I think the game is tomorrow..I wonder if they're allowed to sack or even touch the QB...Not even In the back of his front for all you preverts thay like big buttss..
  15. He interviewed yesterday at Texass to be TE and special teams COACH..Seems like a no brainer if they offer.. https://www.kansas.com/sports/college/big-12/kansas-state/article239351913.html
  16. Have we offered Snyder yet? Sad to read about Sean's 22 year old Son's suicide last Feb.. While watching Iowa in their bowl game, I was surprised when the commentators put up a chart listing Hayden Fry's assistants on their 1983 team.. Five of the staff would go on to become the winningest head coaches at five different programs: Snyder (Kansas State), Alvarez (Wisconsin), Stoops (Oklahoma), McCarney (Iowa State) and Ferentz (Iowa). Rankings 1983 Iowa Football coaching staff. Name Position Seasons at Iowa Alma mater Hayden Fry Head coach 5th Baylor (1951) Bill Brashier Defensive Coordinator 5th North Texas State (1952) Bill Snyder Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks 5th William Jewell (1963) Dan McCarney Defensive Line 7th Iowa (1975) Barry Alvarez Linebackers 5th Nebraska (1969) Don Patterson Tight Ends 5th Army (1973) Carl Jackson Running Backs 5th Prairie View A&M (1963) Kirk Ferentz Offensive Line 3rd Connecticut (1978) Del Miller Offensive assistant 6th Central (IA) (1972) Bernie Wyatt Defensive Ends/Recruiting Coordinator 10th Iowa (1962) Bill Dervrich Strength and Conditioning 4th West Chester State (1975) Bob Stoops Graduate Assistant 1st Iowa (1983) https://hawkeyesports.com/news/2018/5/18/football-greatest-coaching-staff-ever.aspx
  17. DE Fa’alili Fa’amoe – The American Samoa native is a relative unknown and secret. Fa’amoe is the only player from American Samoa selected to the game and he arrived on Tuesday morning and worked his way in about the midway point of practice but then on Wednesday really flashed. While the linemen haven't had many opportunities to shine, with no pads either day, Fa’amoe started to make an impression in team 11-on-11, when he was constantly getting a good jump at the snap and into the backfield. He's still pretty raw but has unlimited potential at about 6-4, 225-pounds. Fa’amoe doesn't have an offer yet but we think this week will definitely get him on the map.
  18. I just realized last weekend, that Will Shields retired...My aunt used to have season tickets back when they started the franchise, so don't anyone tell her.
  19. The way our staff has been consistently outcoached on gameday which was my biggest surprise with this staff btw, makes me wonder how good they can be at player development...It took Osborne and his staff several years to ''win the big one'', but thanks to the coaches mostly staying around (Other than 3-4 DCs), THey were able to grow in their roles. Keeping up with the ''weakest division of our conference''. will probably not be enough to keep this staff around past 5 years.
  20. I was thinking the same thing last week.. Speaking of CU...Amazed at how much Eric Bieniemy is in demand.
