  1. The team I have as my favorite to win the Big 12 is WVU. Vegas has WVU at +/- 8.5 though, so probably not the best bet to make either... Remember when Nebraska was picked as the preseason B1G favorite? And the difficulty they had adjusting to a new conference? No way WVU gets a Big 12 title, there is no way past OU and Texas for WVU this year. They're gonna find out how weak the Big East really was when they get to the Big 12.
  2. I would love to believe that we are about compete at that level this year, but I honestly don't see it happening. Pelini has definitely had his work cut out for him, and the atmosphere of CFB nowadays is remarkably different from what it was in the Osborne era. Bo took over a decimated program, full of raw talent recruited by Callahan. The only problem was that Callahan hired a terrible staff, tried to implement an NFL style offense into a team whose players were designed to run the option. Steve Pederson brought the program to a new low with his firing of Frank Solich, making Nebraska a coaching graveyard. Why do you think Ohio State and Florida could land Urban Meyer and not Nebraska? The "powerhouse" image had been destroyed at the end of the '01 season in the Rose Bowl against Miami, and Nebraska officially entered their free-fall. After the damage by Callahan, Cosgrove, and Pederson was done and they had all cashed out and skipped town, it was T.O.'s job to find the best replacement. Bo was the best possible coach that could have came to Nebraska that year, and fans felt they wanted a familiar face after the program had been hijacked by Callahan and Co. Pelini is a good motivator, and with the talent pool left, he was able to produce an elite, championship caliber defense in year 2. Only problem is our offense looked like a high school offense. The consistent defense continued into year 3, only to let another conference championship slip through our fingers on account of bad game day coaching and a horrible offensive strategy against Oklahoma. But since that point, Nebraska has shown signs of decline, as much of the talent left on the defensive side of the ball, (Prince, Hagg, Pierre Allen, Crick, Dejon Gomes, etc.) and other playmakers left from the Callahan era. The 2011 defense was a shell of its former self, and was showed to be unprepared for the season, which is completely unacceptable. The embarrassment against Wisconsin on national TV, on a game that could have been a close, competitive game if the coaching and preparation had been able to keep the team in the game. Instead we dug ourselves a hole and did major damage to the image and recruiting of Nebraska. Then we thought later in the season because we had beat Michigan State, we were destined for the Rose Bowl. We got a reality check the next week against Northwestern, along with another shelling by a spread-offense attack at Michigan. The bowl performance was putrid, with every opportunity to put South Carolina away in that game slipping away in the first half, and the lack of effective halftime adjustments after SC had taken the lead on an unexcusable hail mary. Plays that would have never happened in the two years before. The recruiting has generally been 'down', with the exceptions of some players on offense, like Jamal Turner and Kenny Bell. Were depending on a transfer from Memphis to save our secondary, our LB position is greatly weaker this year without tackling machine Lavonte David, and the D-Line hasn't shown the ability to get a consistent pass rush. With these major talent holes in the defense, you have to wonder about Pelini's ability to recruit top level talent. Right now were a distant 3rd place in the Big Ten in recruiting behind Ohio State and Michigan, who seem to have a new 4 or 5 star recruit just about every day. This year will make or break Bo's career at Nebraska. These are all his players, his system has been in place for 5 years, and the offense is an experienced (even though inconsistent) unit entering year 2 of an offensive system. There are no more excuses for the crucial mistakes, lackluster performances in big games, and the coaches not being able to get their team to perform consistently on a week to week basis. Without major improvements on both sides of the ball, we are not going to see a Big Ten championship this year or maybe not even a few years in the future. If Tim Beck can't get Martinez to perform well as a passer, our offense will again struggle against top-tier defenses. If we can't seem to get pressure with our front 4, or LB play worsening, and a leaky secondary, we're going to struggle against explosive offenses and be put out of games. And that will lead to another (hopefully) 9 win season with a couple of embarrassments along the way.
  3. I think if we start Green and Helu can still run well than we will have enough offense to beat KU this week. The defense will probably limit KU's scoring since Reesing is having a bad year and we shouldn't lose to them. But the offense does need work.
  4. roy has trouble lifting one arm above the shoulder, that probably accounted for his difficulty. he is far from "healthy" as some appear to think he's become. He just ran hard and gutted it out last night. He needs surgery.
  5. Ok if you look at the four games that Lee started that mattered most (Virginia Tech, Missouri, Texas Tech, and Iowa State), Lee's performance was pitiful except for one quarter of play. In the VT game, he failed to lead a TD drive. In the Missouri game, he only got the big play to Paul, then two short throws for TD's, however he never had to lead a drive downfield. In the TT game, he failed to lead a TD drive. In the ISU game, he led us to one 40 yd TD drive, and on the last 2 series when it really mattered, he threw 2 picks. Zac Lee cannot lead a drive against a BCS conference defense. He cannot drive 80 yards downfield on any defense that has talent and isn't from the Sun Belt conference. However, Cody Green has led touchdown drives in both of his first Big 12 appearances. He has shown more in those games than Lee has really shown all year. Lee cannot read defenses, he misses open receivers, has no running or scrambling ability, and is not a leader. Its obviously its Cody Green for the next few years. Lets have him face a real tough D like Oklahoma now so he can learn what it really takes to win in college football. I guarantee you he will lead us to at least 2 touchdown drives, and then a couple field goal drives this week. Zac Lee isn't capable of doing anything like that. Its obvious he doesn not have what it takes. Green is young but is going to learn quick, our O will be so much better off next year if Green has a good reset of the season.
  6. This is from Steve Sipple's Journal Star column, I think this is what needs to be done. "Zac Lee started at quarterback and played OK. You can’t pin the loss on Zac, although his last two interceptions, as Nebraska tried to mount a last-ditch rally, won’t inspire confidence among teammates. I’ve written more than once that freshman Cody Green should be the starting QB. Coaches this week contemplated making a change. Although Pelini said it was ultimately an easy decision to start Lee, offensive coordinator Shawn Watson sang a slightly different tune, saying Green continues to gain ground on Lee. “Cody’s getting better and better and better,” said Watson, adding Lee’s edge is mostly in game-management issues, such as the two-minute drill. Given Green’s steady improvement, and what we’ve seen from him and Lee in games, I don’t think going to him now should be regarded as a panic move, as some might suggest. Lee does a lot of good things, but he doesn’t provide a spark for the offense. He’s not that type of player. Not that type of personality. Now, it appears Nebraska’s entire program needs a spark, which is why I’d give the keys to the 6-foot-4, 220-pound Green, a gifted runner and developing passer. It’s definitely worth a try, because something’s missing."
  7. I think the key to stopping Sheffield (assuming he's starting) is to get pressure on him. I watched the TT - KSU highlights where he threw 7 TDs and for every TD he threw, there was no pressure anywhere. He had all day to pick apart the secondary, and seeing that K-State is really that bad, I don't think that performance means a whole lot. I think with Suh and the rest of our D-Line that we are going to win this game since we will make sure the QB doesn't get comfortable like he did against KSU. Plus with Pelini calling blitzes off the edges with LB's and DB's I think we'll be able to keep them guessing and I like our offenses chances of getting points. We're at home and it wont be raining so I believe Lee will have a solid game, and I think Helu will get a couple of TD's also.
  8. Like N.W.A. said, f#*k THE POLICE!!!! They act like they do good but its all just smoke and mirrors. These cops are just on a power trip and love being the bully. I'm not saying all cops are crooked but I would guess theres a good majority. Just what exactly do they do with the drugs they confiscate??? I know thats off topic but this is a disgrace. Some stupid Mizzou cop on an ego trip, they all know its wrong, but they'll never admit it cause it would hurt their departments image. They were just depressed cause they found out their football team has no future.
  9. I watched that too, I thought it was funny when the "expert" on there said "Turner Gill led Nebraska to a national championship" while they were talking about his playing career at Nebraska. No one said anything to that either cause they didn't know if they had won a NC while TG played here or not. Just goes to show ESPN 'experts' don't really know what they are talking about. Plus Bo Pelini looked like a better hire than Gill at that point since he had limited head coaching experience at Buffalo and hadn't won the conference championship. Any Husker fan knows its not race that kept Turner Gill from getting the job. We are more well informed on the coaching search than ESPN.
  10. I know this isn't the last 8 years. I'm not comparing this certain Nebraska team with any other one, I'm just saying as you noted as well its been 12 years since we beat a top 20 team on the road, and we will have to play a very smart game to overcome Beamer at VT. I'm just afraid of people having your attitude, then seeing Nebraska come out and play poor and have the same old discussions about how we just aren't there yet. It will hurt a lot to have that hope and expectations and be let down. I know some are positive from 2 games we played this yeaer and the games we won last year, but this Va Tech team is better than anyone Pelini has beaten. But it is his chance to show that he is a good coach, but even if he doesnt win this one, we still have the rest of the year and other games to look forward to.
  11. I hope I'm wrong but I think that a lot of Husker fans are putting too much faith and confidence into winning this game. We all want to win but realistically this is a QB making his first road start at a loud stadium. Obviously his adrenaline will be puming hard (also because of TV), which could possibly lead to early mistakes that could doom us, reminiscent of last year when we went down 9-0 pretty fast. Its the feeling I get before Husker games like this in recent era that show how far we have come. Obviously we haven't done well in those games and haven't been the same Negraska since the 2001 CU game. This win could set us up to come back from that loss, Pelini leading the Huskers to a great season and career for him. This pressure is a lot for the team to handle and especially in a road environment. I predict the Huskers are going to play VaTech really tough but lose ia close one. I want to believe that we can hang with top teams on the road but its up to what the Huskers do on the field to make me believe that. We haven't had a BIG win since 01 Oklahoma. I pray that this is a turning point for the Huskers, but it is smart to not put so much faith in a pretty untested team.
  12. Wow! This just keeps getting funnier EVERY time!!! The office = Most overrated show since Friends!!! The only difference there is that The Office actually has some funny sh#t.......Friends however is the most brainless, stupid and unfunny show that ever existed.
  13. I'm glad someone else brought this up so i didnt have to be the first. I have heard stories like this as far back as last year up until now. Supposedly alot of guys on the team didnt like Witt and the way he handled himself. It really doesnt surprise me. Plus it frees up another scholly. Also another line of info from my source: "My sources all told me lee was the odds on favorite to win the job anyway. More mobile and a better arm. But now lee better stay healthy"
  14. Here is something I got an in an email, a rumor/source of info "what happened is that this husker team emphasizes family and brotherhood and not individuality. Witt struggled with that concept and when called on some of his behavior by fellow teammates and staff, he reacted immaturely, and was informally "disciplined" by a fellow teammate for doing so. dad requested a meeting to straighten things out. The coaches said they wanted Patrick to stay but that they supported the players and staff who called him out on the specific behavior at issue because it was not consistent with our principles of family, brotherhood and leadership. He then apparently felt unwanted and decided to leave."
  15. At the game, west stadium section 30, 27 rows up. So on the 5 yard line by the north end zone where he kicked the ball. Once I saw the heighth of the ball I knew it had a good chance and then I went ape sh#t after when it went through and when Suh scored.
  16. My question is who cares? This is why I don't pay attention to recruiting, theres no point since you have no idea if they are going to be good or bad. Like Harrison Beck we all thought was our savior QB but he totally sucks. So what happens if Green follows a similar path as Beck? It's not like he is supposed to be our next Tommie Frazier. All I'm sayin is don't get ahead of yourself with all this recruiting hype.
  17. Well I just saw a revised 'way-too-early' top 25 for next year....we are number 19! 19. Nebraska Cornhuskers In his first season as Nebraska's coach, Bo Pelini went a long way toward restoring the pride in the Cornhuskers' defense. Nebraska will have to worry more about its offense going into the 2009 season after losing quarterback Joe Ganz, tailback Marlon Lucky and receivers Todd Peterson and Nate Swift. Patrick Witt and Zac Lee will battle to replace Ganz, and Roy Helu looked like Nebraska's best running back at times during the 2008 season. Seven starters should be back on defense, including Ndamukong Suh, who returned to school instead of entering the NFL draft. The Big 12 schedule might set up nicely for the Cornhuskers, who will play Texas Tech and Oklahoma at home and won't play Texas during the regular season. I think this is a pretty good prediction, we could get into the Big XII title game being ranked 19, and maybe pull the upset. I hope next year is good and we have a good QB as well. Here is the link to the rest of the top 25: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/columns/stor...&id=3893994
  18. Too bad my seats are in the west stadium so I'm not able to see myself
  19. If they didn't lose to Syracuse they would've probably been in the Gator Bowl. Then us husker fans would really hate ND!!
  20. Well if UNO is better than UNL, then the Huskers are better than Florida: Div I - FBS Nebraska beat Clemson 26 - 21 Div I - FBS Clemson beat South Carolina 31 - 14 Div I - FBS South Carolina beat Mississippi 31 - 24 Div I - FBS Mississippi beat Florida 31 - 30
  21. Yeah I read that too, I just thought What an idiot, the bowl game is a reward for the seniors, plus how are we supposed to win with a 2nd string line-up?
