  1. Interesting paper on how British policymakers forecast the eventual 2008 collapse back in 1987.
  2. When will the media start to acknowledge that the Republican Party is anti-democracy?
  3. Good example, I don't watch much of the NFL until the last week or two and then only the games with playoff implications.
  4. But all the games don't count for something, only a tiny fraction of them do. And as the season goes on, fewer and fewer games have playoff implications. The way to combat this is to have more teams in the playoff, but then the games individually mean less because so many teams get into the playoff and the playoffs themselves become very large with a whole lot of games. It's why I haven't watched any regular season basketball, hockey, or baseball in many years - I just wait and watch the playoffs. And even then I don't usually watch the first few rounds because the tournament is so many games. There's just no way to keep interest in the regular season as high once there's a playoff.
  5. No it isn't. Just look at basketball, hockey, or baseball. Plus, there's far more teams not in contention than are in contention for a spot in football.
  6. Dammit! I thought Robinson had committed to the Huskers - then I noticed the tweet was from Amukamara.
  7. I meant it will save them money. From that paper:
  8. Maybe, but saving money is pretty important to a lot of conservatives. Hopefully more will start coming around.
  9. New study finds that Medicare for All would save the US $5.1 trillion over a decade. The paper also describes ways to transition to the new system and how to fund it. In-Depth Analysis by Team of UMass Amherst Economists Shows Viability of Medicare For All
  10. Yep. So what was CBP doing during the 8 hours they were detaining her and her father? Were they checking on the condition of the detainees and seeing to their needs? Because once you've detained someone, you're responsible for their well-being. CBP might have done all the right things, but I want to see an investigation to determine what went wrong and what could be done to prevent this.
  11. Trump and his admin are still very useful for sowing confusion and distrust within the US and between the US and our allies. That's extremely useful to Putin.
  12. That remains to be seen. From the link above: "Food and water are typically provided to migrants in Border Patrol custody, and it wasn’t immediately clear Thursday if the girl received provisions and a medical exam before the onset of seizures."
  13. https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/senate-joint-resolution/54 https://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=115&session=2&vote=00266
  14. Copying over commando's post from another thread - read the linked twitter thread. This is proof of collusion with the Russian government. The only question now is who all is involved.
  15. WOW! That's a smoking gun of Russian collusion for at least one GOP operative. The question now is: how many others were also involved?
  16. I think it's getting overlooked that a former RNC Deputy Chairman is going to prison. Cohen wasn't just Trump's lawyer.
  17. This isn't a safe enough space apparently.
  18. I've said it before and I'll say it again: There's an obvious and simple way to do an 8 team playoff. 5 slots to the P5 conference champs. 1 slot for the "best" G5 conference champ. 2 slots for independents and other teams. Keep the committee to decide on the 3 non-P5-champs and to seed them 1-8 for the playoffs. Of course, that's too obvious and simple, so that's never going to happen.
  19. Trump starting to reap what he sowed with his "boy who cried wolf" schtick.
  20. All good points. It's tough to know which of the possible actions will or won't provoke Russia and even whether or not we should be provoked by one or more of their actions.
