  1. I agree. But IMO the Thu. night games have a stigma of being "lesser" tams trying to get on TV. I prefer my team to play on Sat. Thursdays are for Louisville, Boise St and MAC schools. I still don't mind watching them though. It better than the alternatives usually. Absolutely agree.
  2. Great topic. I think we'll be slightly better in penalties this season, but I still think we'll have some problems. I think that's part of what happens when you have a fired up coaching staff which translates to the players. I love how we're playing the last 2 seasons, so I'm okay with a few more penalties here and there if it means playing hard and with ferocity.

  4. I love these posts, but it makes more sense to do them after all the players have finished their NU career.
  5. What rules are you talking about? I read the OP and I still don't see what you're saying.
  6. Probably because it's a video game. Competitive balance matters more than individual accuracy.
  7. With one sentence Iowa is already a better rival than CU.
  8. Try again. He's in the recruiting class of 2011 - which means he's a freshman come fall 2011. The Trojans will be ineligible for bowl games following the 2010 and 2011 seasons, which means Jalen won't be going to a bowl game in frosh year.
  9. But think past the 2010 season - UNL will be a "powerhouse" or "elite" team in the national perception. Not only does having them in the Big Ten help the conference rep directly, but any team beating them will be seen as having won a big game. And that in turn will help the rep of the Big Ten. It might hurt the pride of tOSU or PSU but helps the conference.
  10. NCAA requires that the biggest money-making sport for any multi-sport athlete uses that scholarship. For most big-time D1 schools that's football, but a few smaller schools might be basketball. This only takes affect if the athlete participates in a game (i.e. a wrestler would remain on a wrestling schollie unless he actually played during a football game at which point he'd be counted as a football schollie).
  11. I honestly see this as the most likely scenario. Even if they are games that wouldn't have been part of the TV package in past years, I could see the Big 12 putting them on to withhold more money from NU. My understanding is that NU gets all of the profit from their PPV games, so I wouldn't be surprised if the Big 12 tried to stick it to NU, one last time. The TV networks, NOT the B12 conference, decide which games they will air. The networks lose money by showing games with less viewership but do not lose money if UNL is on the BTN. And I think the B12 will do its darnedest to get a piece of any BTN money UNL makes.
  12. Well anyone who has Directv or Dishnetwork would get it already. I am sure TWC will be getting it soon. Are you certain? I had Dish until recently and don't remember having the BTN Available on Dish Network with the 120+ or better programming package. http://www.dishnetwork.com/packages/detail.aspx?pack=AT100Pluss Listed as channel 439. My in-laws have noticed that the channel disappears from the guide occasionally.
  13. Arrrgh! Stupid double-clicking mouse!
  14. Time to call/mail/e-mail your local cable company and tell them you're switching to DirecTv or Dish Network because of the BTN.
  15. Right, because every other fanbase excluding the Huskers is happy with every result they encounter with their team. Please, there is just as much bitching going on at any other board about stuff fans don't like about their team. Don't just make it seem like Husker fans are the main culprit. I speaking in absolutes here - I don't care what other fanbases do or whether we're better or worse than them in any way. I've simply come to the conclusion (my own personal opinion) that many Husker fans are never truly happy with any result. I remember the bitching and moaning in the late 80's and early 90's about how TO couldn't win the "big one". And how lowly Colorado had passed us by. And even during the 1994 and 1995 seasons fans would complain that we didn't win "convincingly enough". I find it sad because I love the Huskers and college football and try to enjoy every moment because the off-season is long and usually boring. And I don't mean to imply that all fans are guilty of this or that I myself am completely immune.
  16. Jamal has me pumped up for the season after reading that. He's going to be one of the players I always pull a little more for - like O'Hanlon the last few years.
  17. I think this discussion highlights the worst part of Husker fans - they are never truly happy with any result.
  18. I'm pretty sure he means not very good at basketball. There was talk of him possibly playing both bball and fball at UNL.
  19. I have a concern about having divisions: the conference gets split and you end up with comparisons between the North/South or East/West which aren't good for the conference. I'm thinking of both the B12 and the SEC. The media spend an inordinate amount of time analyzing which division with each conference is better which generates a feeling of uneven playing fields. The B12 really suffered under this and greatly detracted from the camaraderie of the conference. B12 South fans would root against the North teams and vice versus. I'd much prefer a system similar to what's in place now in the Big Ten with some protected rivalries and then rotating which of the remaining teams play one another.
  20. Maybe you should learn what the Blackshirts are yourself there sparky. I'm eager to get more info from the Big Ten fans, regardless of what some alleged Husker fans are posting.
  21. ESPN's recruiting partner is Scouts Inc. which is not the same as Scout.com. They are 2 different recruiting services with confusingly similar names.
  22. Problem is that NU would lose $4.5M/year for 2 years BEFORE joining the B10. That's not a deal breaker, but it's a lot of money to lose. There's also been talk of new B10 members needing to buy into the Big Ten Network. The most commonly quoted number I've seen is $5M/year for 10 years (keep in mind, that's extremely speculative). If NU had to pay to get out of the B12 and then pay to get equity in the BTN, that might be a deal breaker.
  23. That's what it sounds like to me. Thanks for the research Nexus. Of course the B12 conference would have to collect that money which could be tied up in court until the B12 folds up shop anyways. But that's neither here nor there. Basically we'd lose 50% over 2 years, 90% over 1 year, or 100% over 2 years (less than 6 months notice), if we left the B12. Since the conference paid NU approximately $9 million last year that means we'd lose about $9 million. That seems like a factor we'd use as a bargaining chip for the B10 (i.e. we'd want the B10 to pay the B12).
