  1. Yes, it's silly, but we've been putting up with silliness like this since the BCS came into existence. For a real hoot, check out the pocket protectors hero - Jeff Sagarin's computer rankings.... http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbt07.htm His 15th best team just got creamed by his 65th. And CU is better than Wake
  2. oops. it seems i've exceeded my limit after only week 1. do i get a spanking or something???
  3. Guess the Pony Express didn't get the word to Oregon State and Louisville, based on their performances tonight....
  4. ' Same here. we are due to meet Elizabeth at about 5 Friday before heading to Greensboro.
  5. Maybe 800 BODIES bought season tickets, but I bought a block of 6, and several others in our group bought up to 10 sets of season tickets, so his numbers are probably way off. I bet we are at least 1/3 of the 31,500 capacity, and that's outstanding. By the way, we are donating the rest of the season package to the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Winston-Salem, as stated in a previous thread.
  6. Sorry, but the selfishness in me gives a big WOOT to this prospect. Of course, I hope for better success this year with a Big XII championship and a trip to the Fiesta, but we have been salivating about this matchup for over 15 years of the Maryland-based fan club's existence. Red on red, and actually having a potential opponent with LOCAL fans. It's tough to find Texas fans to talk trash to, although I thought I had found several after they won the NC and everyone was sporting the Longhorn logo. But go up to one out here randomly, and they probably don't even know where the campus is located. The proverbial bandwagon. One dude in a burnt orange hat told me he was actually from Vermont
  7. "One of the things that really amazed me when we went to Nebraska was how sportsmanlike their fans are. They're not saying bad stuff to you, you come on to the field and they cheer for you. They're not negative in a sense that they're against the visiting team, they're just really for their team. And a lot of places could take a lesson on how to be fans from Nebraska. We were just really impressed and overwhelmed at how much support Nebraska had, but equally impressive to us was how sportsmanlike they were to us as a visiting team."
  8. there will be a "move up" spot available when VaTech gets hammered by LSU. I don't see any other possibilites. Neither Wake nor the team that beat them are ranked, so it isn't going to be a big attention-getter when we win. The State University of New Jersey ranked ahead of the Big Red. what has this world come to? still can't get used to that....
  9. Just watched it... "Brandon R." sent a video "sound off" asking why Mark May can't show any love for the Huskers and questioning his "overrated' statement. Not bad...
  10. Mack Brown just got a big extension and almost spit the bit against Arkansas State. Let's hope it isn't a trend....
  11. Wake parking Those of us without season parking passes - in other words, all of us - will be across the street from the stadium in the Lawrence Joel Veteran Memorial Coliseum parking lot. The group from Maryland will be in Greensboro Friday night downtown, around the Mariott hotel (our HQ). Then we will be tailgating in this parking lot early Saturday. Look for the full size Dodge pickup (RED, of course), with the "margarator" - the battery operated margarita machine in the back
  12. 17-23 isn't bad for a backup, but yes, they were stopped many times in the red zone. I'll be there to do my part to turn that little pissant of a stadium RED. Me and about 20 others from our group. Look for the BIG RED N flag waving!
  13. There should not even be a poll until the first week in October! Who is to say that KSU isn't really good, rather than Auburn is just pedestrian? Who is to say that Clemson isn't a Top 10 team? Who is to say Texas will be lucky to be 8-4? My point is I am sick of teams getting the benefit of doubt at the end of the year because the preseason polls have them ranked higher than another deserving team looking for a BCS bid! I just wish they would let some of the season unfold before releasing rankings especially since many teams don't get to square off on the field like the NFL or FCS teams to find out who really deserves to be playing for a NC! The AP poll isn't a part of the BCS equation, but I agree on early rankings giving "traditional" teams an edge just because of who they are. If Meeeeeeeechigan doesn't fall out of every top 25 poll in the country, the voters look just as foolish as Blue did on Saturday. AP started us at 20, and I think that we will take advantage of Michigan, Tennessee, and Free Shoes U losses. I don't believe they will lower any others behind us, so 17. 16 in the Coaches poll. That's where the ESPNU poll has us now.
  14. I wasn't knocking them for what they did. I think it is "class"
  15. and just what part of trying to make it on TV didn't you get???? (I agree, though!)
  16. OK, guys. I have my poster board and colored implements of destruction. Hit me with your best sign to take to Wake - one that might make it on TV. So far, the winner is a quote from a poster on here about Mark May being the college football version of a weatherman - never right and never apologetic. Got anything better?
  17. Nebraska class - taking a knee instead of adding another 7 to the board to end the game (hey, does guy/gal who predicted closest to 59-10 instead of 52-10 win something? ) App State version of "class" - emptying the bars, living rooms, dorms, trailer parks, etc after the win over "Big Boo" and going to YOUR field and tearing down the goalposts and laying them on the chancellor's lawn. I've never heard of tearing your own goalposts down after an away win, but gotta give 'em credit.
  18. team rushing totals have us on top, too
  19. Us'uns - 21 Thems over thar - 10 Grinding it out for 181 yds Airing it out for 152
  20. really sorry to see this, as it was great to have a couple of Huskers on the roster last year. Oh well, i still have Sam to idolize
  21. completely satisfied Let's run down some stats here..... Marlon led the entire country in rushing yesterday The team led the entire country in rushing yards We held them to less than 100 rushing, and just a hair over 100 passing - less than 200 total yards We punted twice the entire game thirty five freakin' first downs! nuff said! and the Blackshirts, man they were in the NV QB's face all day! NICE JOB! Sure, there was a time early in the game that I was worried. Dropped passes, errant passes that reminded me of "Oh Lord" Jamal, and a secondary getting used and abused for a short time. after that, it all started clicking. Big kudos to the "suspect" DL who proved that graduation hasn't affected the talent level. Even bigger kudos to the OL that dominated NV's defensive front and opened holes you could drive a JD 7440 through for Marlon. I think that if there is any aspect of our game yesterday that isn't an A or A+, it would be the special teams play (except the awesome leg). I don't think we have a standout bulldog like we had in Rigoni last year. Other notes.... It was great to see the option plays when Ganz took over the team (much later than I had expected), even though they didn't go for much yardage. Was Keller's dad wearing MICHIGAN sunglasses during the interview? Only caught a glimpse, but it looked like a big "m" on the side. thanks to ABC/ESPN for bringing back the "Nebraska fan at the DMV" commercial. Can't get enough of that one! how many I-A coaches around the country were checking their non-conference schedules last night for the rest of this year and future years for potential I-AA pungie pits like Michigan ran into? The bar I was in had one CU fan - and he was playing darts instead of watching their OT win. go figure Texas was beaten in every aspect except the final score by Arkansas State. sound familiar? Michigan and Notre Dame lose. BIG DAY! If Michigan is anywhere near the top 25 come Tuesday night, the voters should have their privledges stripped! And finally.... Our opponent next weekend lost, but was stopped many times in BC's red zone, and easily could have beaten them. It will be a good game that I'm proud to say I'll be at. WF's secondary isn't as suspect as I thought.
  22. One of the best experiences I've ever had at an away game was at Heinz Field 3 years ago. We even had a room at "Panther HQ" across the river from the stadium. Filled the hotel bar with red Friday night, and were welcomed by the staff and Pitt fans alike. We had done the season tix purchase again (like Wake this year), and were right in the middle of the alum. Good folks, cheering their team as hard as we were ours, especially during the 4th quarter comeback that made the game close in the end. Hands shook and backs were patted at the end, and that continued during our walk back to the hotel. Hope Stevie P. sees fit to schedule them again....
  23. Fowler's a douchebag by alumni status only, but he doesn't seem to let it cloud his reporting, especially of the hated Big Red. Nowhere near the status of May.
