  1. Thanks G&W. So in essence, they're like Baylor, but with occasional fits of athletic competence, no bible-thumping or teetotalism, and their degree is worth 10x more in the workplace than Baylor. Fair enough.
  2. No way OU is going to the Rose Bowl. Even if Stanford plays there way into the NCG although highly unlikely(they trail Okie Lite by a huge margin). The Rose Bowl will take the conference runner up, assuming it meets BCS qualifications, which the team more than likely will. Okie Light seems to have inside track to NCG. So the Fiesta Bowl will likely take the next best team from the Big 12 which will be OU, assuming they win out and then lose to Okie Light. Nebraska is going to the Rose Bowl only if they win conference(duh!). However Nebraska can get into the Fiesta and play OU. Here's how. Nebraska wins out and loses the CCG whether its to tOSU or Wisconsin and will be 11-2, more than likely ranked in top 10 BCS. The Fiesta Bowl I believe has the option of picking an at large team over the Big East champ this year. Nebraska has the inside the track over Boise and Oregon because its fanbase travels real well($$$$$$$$$$) and it hasnt been there since gawd knows how long. Nebraska fans will be excited to be back at a big time bowl and will come in droves. HuskerScott--the Rose Bowl, much to the chagrin of the purists, would leap at the chance to bring in an Oklahoma or Oklahoma State if Stanford or Oregon win the Pac-12 and make it to the CCG. The conference drama alone would sell the game in a heartbeat, and OU or Okie Lite would probably wheel out Beebe for ESPN interviews leading up to the game to besmirch Nebraska and add to the tension. That alone, if OU/Okie Lite are available and the Pac-12 champ makes it to the CCG, would make it happen. Having said that, while I would certainly stop down for such a game, I wouldn't want it to happen in the Rose Bowl if, for no other reason, than to be good neighbors and good newbies for the Big 10. If an OU/Okie Lite Rose Bowl matchup happens, Nebraska's existence would be blamed for such a pairing, unfair or not, and would not help Nebraska get in/stay in the good graces of the Big 10 Presidents. Now, if we do happen to drop the Big 10 Title Game bout but still retain a high ranking, then I think an at-large bid is not only feasible, but likely, especially if someone is looking for OU/Okie Lite to play. Again--drama sells, and seeing DoNU square off against embittered former conference mates makes for some good drama-filled TV.
  3. Weird...don't see how rooting for Iowa to win is throwing support behind the implied acceptance of permanent mediocrity for our program, but to each their own, I suppose.
  4. http://www.cbssports...475988/33089743 Thought this meme was worth a stop-down if, for anything else, to check out the latest Denver articles on ESPN. Just set the comments to 'live', and watch as X > Tebow comments just pour down the page like a waterfall, which must be driving Bristol bat s**t insane. And to pile on... Bill Callahan's Reign of Terror > Tebow Kevin Cosgrove Defenses > Tebow A High Colonic > Tebow Texas Football Ethics > Tebow Me thinking of a better 'X > Tebow' line than the lame ones I've thrown out already > Tebow Now just add some Neon Cat to this, stir, and enjoy.
  5. Ugh. Their website and fanbase has spewed more derp and ignorance about realignment than OrangeBloods.com. The only thing they got right is when they stated Nebraska was on the Big 10's radar. And the wife and I are looking to traveling to their stadium next fall--wife hasn't been to Chicago, figured it would be easy to get tickets at their stadium--win/win. Matthew - you should have an awesome time in ChiTown next year for the game. Make it a short vacation, spend time in Chicago (museums, resturants, lake front, music, etc.) and then travel a few miles North to the Campus... Ryan Field is small, quaint (read 'quite old') and parking is horrible so plan to come early. A walk around the Northwestern campus in the fall is very, very nice... Thanks G&W! That was the plan, and as long as winter doesn't come too early, a stroll around Northwestern campus *would* be right up the Mrs. alley.
  6. Same with myself--met Max back in the day before he started charging for HuskerPedia, and it was a good site to post at (before he started charging). After reading up on the court documents he's posted, it appears that David Max did get the short end of the stick from his former partners--it appears they attepted to abscond with upwards of $400k that came from David's own pockets. Though, considering the current jury finding is rewarding over $1 million to David Max, I would think that even after interest is factored out, that's enough to throw the mother of all tailgate parties...
  7. Not only this, but one must look at these contracts in terms of how they play out in the local economies. $3 million goes a hell of a lot further in Lincoln compared to, say, the South or Midwest (read: LSU, tOSU). Not saying it's the *only* factor--just one of many, but our money spends better in Lincoln. Also, didn't see that anyone brought up the Ohio article that talked about how Bo was caught in the middle of a coaching change at tOSU and was publicly hung out to dry by the preceding coach after a bad loss to Pitt. Could understand how that may sour a man on his alma matter, and it makes sense how he has his players back. Do unto others...
  8. A broken leg isn't hurt? The road rash the other rider had was probably pretty nasty too. I don't want to condemn someone I don't know, but there are a couple troubling things here. One, would she have called if her vehicle had not been disabled? Two, it was her parents vehicle, so you have wonder if they knew she was driving. It's no fair to write it off as kids will be kids when everyone is at the same risk on the road. Anyway I agree with what you were saying about drivers ed basically being a joke in the US and getting worse. We treat driving as a right when it is a privilege, one that frankly many shouldn't ever have after proving they are incapable of operating a vehicle safely. But, most of us are bound to lifestyles where transportation is vital, so it just keeps getting worse out there with bad and distracted drivers. I don't honestly remember if I had meant to write "hurt badly" and left the last part off, or if I just misread the article, so I apologize either way. Regardless, don't think we'll see her playing volleyball for us anytime soon. Lucky if we get her for the Big 10 tourney, let alone the NCAAs, like Knapplc said.
  9. Ugh. Their website and fanbase has spewed more derp and ignorance about realignment than OrangeBloods.com. The only thing they got right is when they stated Nebraska was on the Big 10's radar. 10. Kansas, but they were going to be miserable regardless if Turner Gill was there or not. I'd still give Turner a short leash (another season) to turn things around before I declare that a failure. Colorado is in such poor fiscal shape, they're years away from being competent. Hell, until they get Pac-12 money, they're still paying on debt service for the loan taken out by their AD to fire Gary Barnett. Minnesota is in decent shape, fiscally, they have a head coach that, despite his setbacks, cares and has proven himself time and again, and they got a win against a quality opponent. They're competent in basketball, they have a nice new stadium in downtown Minneapolis, and they've got a history of success (though not recent). The only conclusion I can draw from this is that Minnesota shouldn't even be a part of this discussion....
  11. Beyond true, we made the best decision in expansion by far. Would've been nice to not have Mizzou go to the SEC though. Missou would have been great! really gonna miss them. Going to miss Missouri, but there's always an opportunity. Plus, schools like Kansas would make a good pairing with a Notre Dame addition to the Big 10.
  12. I recall there was an offensive lineman during the '09 Texas/Nebraska Title Theft match where the same O-Lineman got two back-to-back chop block penalties on Suh. Any other game or conference, two back to back chop blocks by the same person against the same defender would had been targeting and that offensive player would be ejected. Since the head of officiating was/is a Texas alum, it would take something just short of the "winning" pass from the beginning of the Last Boy Scout to see a Texas player suspended... ...and knowing the Big XII, Walt Anderson would have only suspended the kid on principle for not using hollow-point rounds.
  13. This. Thanks Knapplc--people don't realize how out of the ordinary this situation is. Fortunately, I graduated when Driver's Ed classes was still a requirement during high school--one of the things they teach you is what to do, say, and how to act during an accident, such as: -Pulling out of the way of traffic -Checking on the other driver -Swapping insurance information -Never saying 'sorry', 'I apologize', or 'fault' in your discussion with the other driver -Documenting the damage as you see it on that day and recognizing an estimated dollar amount (some states, like Texas, won't bother with police reports unless there's an injury or property/car damage is over $1000 now--and sometimes you still have to politely press the issue if the officer either doesn't care or is estimating the damage incorrectly) -CPR Lots of things here, and considering most kids don't get this type of class anymore (in Texas, no Driver's Ed is required any longer), I could see a kid panicking and not thinking clearly. If she did indeed pull over, calm down, and call 911, then there's no sense in throwing the book at her. And personally, even *with* the class, I've unfortunately used this information more times than I like--fortunately, I was only at fault once, but in Texas, a new car is like an accident magnet. Bad karma, I suppose. As for Lauren, she's a kid. Fortunately, the cyclist wasn't hurt, but that doesn't excuse her from what she's done. But she can do more good for herself and the community on the court, which is why suspending her for the rest of the year wouldn't benefit anyone. I could easily see her suspended for the remainder of Big 10 play, sans tourney. Anything beyond that...probably not. But that's just my $.02.
  14. Well, let's look at the Big 10 Bowl Matchups--probably helpful to see what we're talking about here. Little Caesars Pizza Bowl December 27, 2011 Detroit, MI, 4:30 pm ESPN MAC No. 1 vs. Big Ten No. 8 (or Sun Belt if no Big Ten) Insight Bowl December 30, 2011 Tempe, AZ, 10:00 pm Payout: $6.7 million Big Ten No. 4 or 5 vs. Big 12 No. 4 Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas December 31, 2011 Houston, TX, 12:00 pm ESPN Payout: $3.4 million Big Ten No. 6 vs. Big 12 No. 6 TicketCity Bowl January 2, 2012 Dallas, TX, 12:00 pm ESPNU Payout: $2.2 million Big Ten No. 6 vs. C-USA Capital One Bowl January 2, 2012 Orlando, FL, 1:00 pm ESPN Payout: $9.2 million Big Ten No. 2 vs. SEC No. 2 Gator Bowl January 2, 2011 Jacksonville, FL, 1:00 pm ESPN2 Payout: $5.4 million Big Ten No. 4 or 5 vs. SEC No. 6 Outback Bowl January 2, 2012 Tampa, FL, 1:00 pm ABC Payout: $7 million Big Ten No. 3 vs. SEC No. 3, 4 or 5 Rose Bowl Game presented by VIZIO January 2, 2012 Pasadena, CA, 5:00 pm ESPN Payout: $36 million Big Ten No. 1 vs. Pac-12 No. 1 What's probably going on with the Big 10's bowl fortunes is that they've been the victim of good BCS fortune in getting multiple teams in--that pushes all of the teams up a notch, to where your #4 Big Ten team is now playing the #3 SEC team, so on and so forth. As for offensive style, that's why teams get multiple weeks of practice before bowl games--if a team is not used to their opponent's style or is out of their element in some regards, you get to use the extra practice to compensate accordingly. Also, how long have Big 10 teams been told their relics, old, antiquated, pushovers, has-beens, boring, monotonous, so on and so forth? After a while, even if the talk isn't justified, it soaks in eventually. Wonder how much of this is a mental block by the Big 10 en masse? Regardless, I do hope we're able to do the Big 10 proud come bowl season. It would be nice to hear the Big 10 chant when we're winning, especially if it's against a former Big 12 team. And yes, a Big12 team is very likely if we go to the Rose Bowl and a Pac-12 team--Stanford or Oregon--makes the title game. I would think the Rose Bowl would jump at the chance to reunite Nebraska with some of its former slum dwellers--the drama alone would sell this game to the masses.
  15. It's not just hacked hosts--if you're a console gamer, they have hacked controllers that, among other things, auto-aim (read: no-scope sniper kills or half-the-map-away kills), let you see through buildings, and make single-shot pistols/rifles into automatics. They've infected both MW2/Black Ops and BF2/BF2BC. And as a fan that's moved on from MW, Battlefield has more opportunities to make friends and the squad-based multiplayer rewards even the n00biest of n00bs progress and get better by being a good teammate (e.g. team heals, enemy spotting, ride-alongs in vehicles). You have your hackers, griefers, rage-quitters, and all-around douchebags in both games, but only one game emphasizes team/squad play, while the other is a free-for-all. I started with MW, but graduated to Battlefield. And despite the shortcomings of the single-player campaign and EA's infrastructure, the game is a beauty to behold in multiplayer.
  16. Okay, maybe it's just me, but I'm missing the point of this story... Was the drawer covered in urine and feces? And I'm not meaning to mock Cornholio, as I am sure he is a fan of lake Titicaca.
  17. I've heard this too, but if these millionaires were going to shell out for the football program, they would have done so when Greg Shiano had that high level of success for a two/three year period some time ago. --- On a related note, Andy Staples/SI.com had an interesting point that I've failed to consider re: ND on last night's "Big Ten and Beyond" show (really--if you're not watching it, shame on you. Excellent show.) Andy mentioned how the other Catholic schools in the Big East are counting on ND to stick with them, and that it's been a point of pride for ND to say they've had their backs--almost as big a point of pride as their independence. It may take an act of God to get Notre Dame to leave their Catholic brethren behind in the Big East, and the Big East *does* have a ways to go before they lose enough teams to where they can't play Olympic sports.
  18. Yes, Badgerfan, we know the Notre Dame history all too well: -Nebraska was the only school to beat the Four Horsemen twice. -Notre Dame claimed anti-Catholic sentiment as the reason for pulling out of their annual game with Nebraska after we won more matches than they cared for. -Nebraska invaded their stadium so bad in 2000 that it looked like for a home game for Nebraska. These pictures are still used to put any prissy ND fan in their place when they try to get on a soapbox regarding fan support. Oh wait, you're talking about the *Big 10* history with Notre Dame, aren't you? My bad...
  19. Well, it looks like the holdup is because the politicians have intervened on behalf of Louisville, and the Big XII is only choosing one of the two to partner with. And here I was, thinking that Chucky may have been a step up from Dan Beebe...but nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, was I wrong.
  20. Bumping because I didn't see the greatness that Carlfense linked. I apologize for not seeing this earlier. "I bring milk, not backyard meth--it's a prison party"
  21. Apparently a Mountain Dew truck overturned and spilled its High Fructose goodness all over the two-lane road going into the state, thus postponing all events in West Virginia as a day of mourning will commence.
  22. I figured ND fandom would be bigger in the state of NY? Rutgers would be a solid addition to B1G from a BTN revenue perspective since it'd essentially be adding the largest TV market in the nation. Yet I hope B1G stays at 12 unless ND wants in. If that scenario ever presents itself, then adding Rutgers as 14th member would make sense. The very reason Nebraska was picked over Rutgers was because the reported draw of Rutgers on NYC was found to be wanting and exaggerated when all was said and done and that ND was ultimately more of a draw. IIRC, this was what Frank the Tank found some time ago, and except for A&M, he's been spot-on. Plus, I would not be shocked to read that ESPN inflated NYC numbers a bit--remember, higher ratings means more money for ad space. It's not like ESPN has any integrity or anything closely resembling that anymore... Also, don't forget the whole hockey angle that folks have brought up here--Notre Dame, IIRC, *still* has yet to declare where they're going for a hockey conference. The B1G could be leveraging its new hockey conference, among other assets, to get ND in the B1G.
  23. They look cool. Don't know how the purists at tOSU will react, but they look pretty good from here.
  24. Why? With the exception of Colorado State (Denver), no TV sets, and no national draw among those schools. If the Big XII were smart, Houston and BYU would get an invite, along with CSU/AirForce and Nevada. You can then retain the Houston and Denver TV markets, add SLC and Vegas (nothing great, but will mitigate some of the damage from losing St. Louis and KC), add a national presence in BYU (again, not nearly as good as the one lost when Nebraska left, but hey--better than nothing), and you get your title game and a contiguous footprint again. Sure, being the Mountain Time Zone sucks, but a Big XII Conference TV network could help mitigate that damage and ensure that the smaller schools (Houston, TCU, CSU/AirForce) have a chance to build and maintain exposure, which will help the conference as a whole.
