  1. I wasn't given a free education. There's a huge difference in standards between scholarship athletes and students in general. One generic student smoking pot doesn't reflect on the whole university. One scholarship athlete does. So... Since we've jumped to the conclusion that he smoked pot... Would your feelings change if pot were now legal? (And would it be against a team rule?). I'm on the fence with this one, but I've only tried pot a couple of times with no effect...(That's what I get for trying to smoke the stuff that's growing next to the fence). Oh, absolutely. If it's not illegal, or if the age was 21 like booze and he were 21, I have no problem with it. I agree with this per se. I wouldn't have any kind of problem with it, but would still hope to see the players refrain from anything of the sort. It's like how the team voted to abstain from alcohol this year, there isn't anything inherently bad about drinking, but it certaintly doesn't help you be a better football player, and you could choose something else to do that could benefit yourself or your teammates in a more positive manner. I thought Suh admitted to having had a drink before his accident. Am I recalling incorrectly? Also inherent to alcohol consumption is the possibility of addiction and screwing up your life royally. Other than that, it isn't too bad though. I was confused about the Suh incident as well, I know they said something about his blood alcohol level but don't remember if it was ever revealed if he actually had alcohol or not. But as for the second part of your post, that's exactly what I mean, it might not be too big of a deal, but why bother?
  2. Apologies. When I started the thread, I got a tid bit busy. Here is my opinion. Recently I have started to question my faith in Christianity...posing the very same points as the non believers in this thread. Like if we do have free will and God knows exactly what is going to happen, then logically we do not have free will or God doesn't know what is going to happen. I will say that the verse that really got me thinking was Ephesians 5:21-6:9. "22Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. 23For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. 25Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26to make her holy, cleansing[a] her by the washing with water through the word, 27and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church— 30for we are members of his body. 31"For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh." 32This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. 33However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. Ephesians 6 Children and Parents 1Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2"Honor your father and mother"—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3"that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth."[c] 4Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. Slaves and Masters 5Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. 6Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but like slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. 7Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, 8because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free. 9And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him." This really makes me think...if God truly is a loving creator, then why would he advocate a something as terrible as slavery? Slavery back then wasn't the way that we view it. If a person was unable to provide for themself, they could become a slave for someone, and do whatever that person ordered in exchange for food and shelter. Edit: More to come later

  4. Sorry about that, my mistake! That is yours, if you'll accept it!
  5. I will make you one when I have time, I promise. In the meantime you could use this one if you want to, someone had me make it years ago and they never used it!
  6. I have been a part of three or four forum-based communities that have had fully implemented chat rooms, and I can say that in my experience it really adds a lot to the experience. Of course, you need to have it be controlled, whether that be mods or admins in chat or just having a bot that runs scripts for flood control and etc. On a second note, AR, if we do get this up and running and people take well to it, do you think it would be possible to actually install IRCd software?
  7. Can we rename this thread to "THE THREAD WHERE PEOPLE WITH SIGS MADE BY LANDLORD POST NONSENSE BACK AND FORTH"? Oh yeah, 85 bottles of rootbeer for me.
  8. Well it seems as if the chat page was deleted during the upgrade
  9. If that is your stance, then I guess you would have rather seen the early 80's teams, that played for two national championships, go 8-3 each year without some of their best players. I would have. Lombardi was dead on when he said it's not about winning, and ultimately, it's not. Most importantly, it's about doing things the right way, and turning these kids into responsible, decent human beings.
  10. I tried the same thing, so my guess is that with how busy the admins have been they haven't inserted a value for the number of times we can rep someone yet.
  11. I had this picture for quite a while, it's originally from Jordan's facebook as far as I know (I don't remember anyone posting it before I did but I could be wrong).
  12. When I made skins for my old forum, I would incorporate images into the header bars and people really liked it a lot, here's an example http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/9153/forumheaders.png Anyways, they were really popular and people liked them a lot, and I thought it would be cool if we could make some seperate themes (maybe Blackshirts, a cheerleaders one like knapplc suggested, and maybe some alternate sports themes?) people might really enjoy the ability to customize!
  13. Ah ok, what you need to do is take the url of the one I posted (http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/5389/gsg5545sighu4.png) and put it inside the IMG tags like this: [img=http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/5389/gsg5545sighu4.png]
  14. What do you mean by that? The text of the post is centered? If that's what you mean the poster probably chose for it to be centered with the alignment buttons on the right side above text entry on the reply screen.
  15. That was an awesome game to watch. Watching Baylor's coach freak out and get T'd up was pretty funny as well. Way to go lady huskers, doing us all proud by playing absolutely great basketball!
  16. ok found the thread where blackshirt posted my sig.....done. Now I just need that avatar I slaved over so long ago. I'll bite.. Where is this thread where our avitars/sigs are posted? I'm pretty sure he's talking about the thread where he requested his sig from someone. There isn't a repository thread for everyone's sig/av anywhere, although in hindsight that may have been a good idea... That's how we always did it at a lot of old forums I posted on, seems like it could be a welcome change here.
  17. I haven't tried it, but I think the plus and minus buttons on the bottom right of a post are used by other posters to vote rep up or down. Go ahead and try it with my post!
  18. Good post, I agree with what you're saying. It's too bad that people do hang on our words so much too, because I know I fail to represent Christianity miserably at times.
  19. The thing is, things aren't moving along the way God had planned (or hopes). If it had been, there would have never been a fall, and we would all live our lives in harmony with God in a perfect world. I'm not sure why you think that God knowing what will happen instantly eliminates the choice in life, unless it's because you're lumping God into your "only one set of rules for how things work", in which case why are you even posting in this thread, it's obvious that God, or at least the idea of a benevolent creator, would be outside of the way things work in our universe, if He did in fact exist.
  20. There's a thread here for sig requests, post in there and I or someone else will get you one made when the time is available!
