  1. I was initially against burning all 3 redshirts, until this post. This line of reasoning makes sense to me. Is Tyler Moore really that much better than Marcel Jones to warrant burning his redshirt? That one is more concerning to me. Especially if we are going to be a run first team. We can't be a run left first team, we at least need to be able to run to either side.
  2. We learned that there are fans who will never, ever be satisfied, no matter what. It was the first game of the season with a new offense, new OC, new WR coach, new LB coach, new secondary coach, new assistant coach(es) on the O Line, and things were ragged. Despite this, apparently there are a LOT of people who expected this game to go tremendously smoothly, and who are overwrought that it didn't. It was a first game. There are things to work on. There were problems. The fact that this is the case is not the end of the world, or the end of any title run, or any indication of anything, other than that it was our first game. Apparently a 33-point win just isn't what it used to be. Some have learned this 20 years ago. Some just learned this...yesterday? I learned our D-Line could be something special. I re-learned that young offensive lines in college can have ...issues. I knew this, but was drunk on Kool-Aid and apparantly forgot, because I kept hearing about "the depth of the O-Line... blah blah blah." Freshman offensive linemen are still freshmen offensive linemen, regardless of perceived potential by whomever. Sophmores are still young, too. Not much to be done except witness some growing pains this year, while the staff accellerates the learning and strength curves to the best of their ability.
  3. I'm learning a lot watching the post game pressers. New kicker, Maher, solid speaking, grounded, not trying to live up to Henery. Taylor Martinez is still a little nervous talking to the press. You can feel the pressure that he carries. He looks and sounds much more confident, however. Cam Meredith could fill in for Keith Stone on those Keystone light commercials. Or could be a roadie for Bon Jovi. the D-Line could be special this year. They are learning to take care of their responsibilities of containment and to get after the QB a little more. Containment first, then house wreckage will ensue.
  4. I was hoping to leave the fumbleitis behind with the Big 12. 4 fumbles with 2 lost. Young O-Line should improve, ball control is not something that gets better with experience alone. You have to value the ball and have a certain mentality to prevent turnovers. That's about the only thing that really worries me. D-Line is going to be one of best of recent memory. Really looking forward to seeing how they perform this year.
  5. Didn't sound pretty, but a win is a win. First as a member of the Big 10. Congratulations team!
  6. Fairweather fans, for sure. I used to get free tickets to games anytime I wanted, including Notre Dame in early 90s. Attention spans aren't the only short things around, memories of half empty stadium at kick-off and less than 10,000 after half time aren't very distant.
  7. Yes, Huskers will roll. The question I want answered is....Who will finish second behind Bo's bus in next years Indy 500?
  8. This was a great thread. Possible classics section in the BS forum? We could keep a few classic threads in a trophy room of sorts, to be viewed by future generations as an example of how it used to be.
  9. Golf in the Kingdom. Gotta love a character named Shivas Irons.
  10. They do not receive state funding. However since only Baylor grads can read and write, they tend to have a lot of power. Aaahh. The literacy card. The thing is, the two most powerful alums that helped them into the Big 12 are deceased. Ann Richards and Bob Bullock.
  11. All of these Texas schools should take the reprehensible advice of former gubernatorial candidate Clayton Williams. Just lay back and enjoy it.
  12. Tech is still neck deep in caca over the Mike Leach thing. Something along the lines "sovereign immunity" or some such excuse to not honor a contract. If they argue that aTm can't breach a contract with the big Tex conference, or that aTm leaving would be detrimental to other institutions, they would not have much of a leg to stand on. Why would they have exclusivity to "sovereign immunity"?
  13. another Texas troll! Why do you keep joining? and LMAO as the A&M Board of Regents meeting the day before Texas' HOR I'm on a Nebraska board as a Horn. I don't expect you to be nice. Here is more info from the DMN. From the Dallas Morning News - "The A&M announcement came a few hours after the Texas House Committee on Higher Education, which controls state university funding, announced hearings regarding “college athletics,” specifically A&M’s possible move to the SEC." Very important - "controls state university funding" What remains to be seen is how Aggie funding will be impacted. What kind of money is going to be discussed. As I've been saying, Aggie doesn't get to pick up an move and neither does UT. Texas politics are going to play a huge role. TT and Baylor will also have something to say. I thought Baylor was a private school. Do they receive state funding?
  14. I can see how LHN showing high school games would be an advantage. "Commit to UT and your high schools' games will be on TV." Nudge nudge, wink wink. Kids are impressionable and I think this would be a big tool. I don't think the LongHorn Network has been picked up by any cable providers, yet. My wife, UT alum, got a message asking her to urge her local provider to carry the LongHorn Network. I don't hear much about the Longhorn Electric providers anymore, either. I'm getting a perverse glee watching all this unfold. Not quite like a car wreck. I have sympathy for the victims of a car wreck. The whole "Let's just start a new conference with Notre Dame" stuff is hilarious. As if.... It wasn't that long ago the Texas wasn't even an afterthought on the national scene. Even when Notre Dame sucks, which has been often the last 20 years, they are still relevent. Texas will need to keep winning to remain relevant. I was able to get free tickets to UT games on the 50yd line, pretty much anytime I wanted as late as 1997. Bandwagon fans. The stadium was 1/4 empty, also. Mack Brown has changed all that. I don't think he's a good game coach, but he is a great recruiter/administrator. They would not be where they are without him. Yet, if he goes 5-7 again, or wins less than 8 games, he will probably be fired. That could easily put Bevo back into late 70s to late 90s type relevence. They will be able to replace him with a decent coach, but you never know. The culture in Texas is unique and not the easiest to deal with, if you aren't from here. Urban Meyer, or anyone else for that matter, would not be a lock to keep winning if he doesn't get how things work in Texas. They need to check themselves, you need others to play games. Nobody wants to play with arrogant jerks. They have more money than sense. That I'm pretty sure of.
  15. Are there any cable providers lined up for the LHN? And, correct me if I'm wrong, if Aggie can't break from UT and vice-versa, what is all this "We will just go independent blah blah blah" talk? I would think if UT has the right to go independent, Aggie can go to a different conference. What do financial resources have to do with this fight? What money is being spent? Who is receiving any financial benefit from this? I would think that there are plenty of lawyers that would work probono for their respective universities. Ohh, I get it, now. State Legislature bribery funds. Perry knows a lot about that, so don't count Aggie out just yet.
  16. I can't remember the last time I had 3 double bogeys in a round, let alone Tiger. 3 under through 5, then 10 OVER the last 13 holes??!!

Yeah, crazy how that happened. But that course did that to a few really good players today. Ryo Ishikawa shot +15. Bubba Watson led the tournament at -4, and shot 42 on the front to end +4. Certainly bad for Tiger, but maybe it was more than just him

Yes, it is a tough course. 260yd par 3? With water in front of the green? Bubba is kind of a streaky player, and not the brightest bulb in the chandalier. Ryo is still very young, 19 or 20. Tiger has 14 majors. I don't think he will ever be the player that he was.

  17. Tried this on vacation in Canada. Toronto Microbrew from Cool Beer Brewing. Hemp Lager. Good Stuff.
