  1. ok, now i feel better, someone came along and told our guys to play more aggressively.......that should fix everything. I was one of the only people saying the Dline would be weak last summer/fall and pretty much got called to the carpet for it. I will say they will be better this year. I haven't he a chance to talk with Kaz but as I said a week or so ago Bo liked several of his ideas and he chanced the way the Dline played in his system. Many things are the same technique wise but the assignments are different and we play with a forward mottion more, rather than a read and react on the line level. They also will help the guy next to the more so each guy isn't always on an island by himself which should open some things up for the Ends and the LBs. If the secondary has improved as much as I hope then we should see the sack total a TFL go up as well. I'm still a little worried on the containment of the running QB but that's because I didn't understand everything they were doing to help that but if your rush ends have more freedom and are getting help from some directional things in the middle that should allow them to be at the the QB faster and keep some scrambling from happening. It sounds like both JP and Joesph have asked for more blitzing and have come up with some new ideas to disguise that too. I'm more excited about some of these things this year than I am about the offense this year. More blitzing & unleashing Caveman and the other DEs more? Wow......the very, very finest music to my ears. Major props to Bo for going to more of an attack defense. It might give up a few more points on average but the 3 & outs, TOP & turnovers are all on our side. Even better, we certainly should be better (finally!) vs mobil qbs. Yes, Bo chews up and spits out pocket qbs with the greatest of ease but qbs who can really run have been a BIG problem for a long time. This should help a lot and it's high time that it's being taken care of. Thanks DaSkers! You talk as if it has already happened? We have seen nothing yet. I would hope you have figured out by now not to take Bo's word on anything football related. If posters like da skers says it happening that's good enough for me. Also, "coach speak" is done by all HCs in Div1 cfb so subtracting that I think Bo's a straight shooter.
  2. As always, any bad news is due to Barney & any good news is due to Garrison/Stai.

  4. Said this last night - will reiterate - Neb is (19-0) last 2 yrs when rushing for 185+ yds as a team, They are (0-8) when they don't. Run the ball, stop the run, win the game.
  5. How about we just roll with both being Heisman contenders hehe Sounds good to me.
  6. I too don't get why so many put Michigan as some mid-70s Steel Curtain. Even last year with lady luck fully camped on their back MSU beat them. So did Iowa. Also, they play at our house this year. "Small chance this year"?? I don't think so. At all. Stating it was a "miracle" we beat the Buckeyes last year is pure BS as our offense simply steam-rolled them the whole 2nd half and could have easily scored again if we were inclined. Sobbing & moaning about their qb's injury had zero to do with Tmart & SRex tearing them apart. We might run over their elite defense this year too. I'm with Hunter on this one as I think MSU & OSU on the road will both be much tougher than Michigan at Lincoln.
  7. Hey, easy everybody. We're all just worked up waiting......hang tough compadres. We're almost there.
  8. Completely agree. +1 why beat the hell out of your best back, game after game and then have him basically unavailable for a game or two? we almost killed Rex last season, so much so that he basically sat out spring practice......short memories?? They're discussing short yardage situations only. I really doubt Rex is going to want to come out in the middle of a series when a first down or TD is on the line and I agree that I don't see us needing a "short yardage" back while he's here. What you're talking about is something different, imo. Rex should be given a break after the 2nd or 3rd series in games and he shouldn't be kept in as long as he was last year into the 4th quarters of games that aren't close. And he sure as hell shouldn't be playing injured like he did during a couple of games last year. That drove me nuts. If you're going to burn 3 rb redshirts, then f*ing play them when the guy ahead of them is hurt. Otherwise don't burn them in the first place. Counting only running backs that had 20 or more carries last year, we had a total of 375 carries. Rex Burkhead accounted for 284 of those, or 76.7 percent. We also know that Burkhead had multiple games of 25 plus carries, and one game where he set the Nebraska single game record for carries. And his 4.8 yards per carry average is pretty good, but not good enough to where he should be getting over 75 percent of our carries. We had a lot of inexperience at the running back position last year, which explains why the coaches were more reliant on Burkhead, but the truth is those guys deserved more playing time and Burkhead should have been given less. I've heard many times that Burkhead is the kind of guy who doesn't want to leave the field and wants to be in there every play, but I'm sure even he realizes that his body can't take that consistent of a beating. If it's so important to have him in on the field, find different ways to utilize him and the players around him. Part of the issues is Burkhead himself, too. He's not the fastest guy in the world, he doesn't have the best moves, doesn't make good reads (more often than people would think) and he's not even the best blocker. It takes 20 plus carries for Burkhead to reach the 100 yard mark. Going by his average, he needs just under 25 carries to reach 100 yards. That's a lot of pressure on his body. True enough but I think you're not realizing how impressive that was to accomplish with our Oline. Seriously, on average, how many carries per game does SRex break one or two tackles behind the LOS to get positive yardage? Two? Three? Four? However many that might be it's extremely likely that any of our others rbs would have been stuffed badly for a four or five yd loss. Every time. I can't even imagine how badly Green, Heard, etc would have been annihilated on those plays. Now, just imagine what SRex's numbers would be with some real-deal roadgraders in front of him? Oh, I agree he's no LP to be sure but I think even LP, Rozier, DuBose, etc would have struggled frequently with our Oline sometimes standing around doing nothing. SRex by himself frequently made our Oline look respectable.
  9. What two games do we have only a "very small chance" in?
  10. Well duh.....we played way, wayyyyyyyy better defenses last year than 2010.
  11. I'd guess about 2/3 run. I bet we're still easily a run-first offense. If Tmart's gap-speed is really back Beck is going to use it. Run the ball, stop the run, win the game.
  12. Amen brother. The sooner the better. Did bshirt and zoogies just agree on something? lol!
  13. Oh yes, that guy took wayyyyy, way more vicious hits than any other Husker I've ever seen. Wow.....the dude was seriously made of iron.
  14. This was well worth the read, so I divided it up into paragraphs for you I can't wait for the offseason to be over so that not every thread ends up being a GIF fest. That might be optimistic of me, though... Amen brother. The sooner the better.
  15. Yep. Yes, it is insanely stupid. So massively stupid but cops, judges, lawyers & jail constructors just love it. But as you say, he knew it was a no-no. Oh well......
  16. Maybe it is a dumb thread but what else is there to talk about? Less than a month for the season to start after a seeming 500,000 billion years of dreary, boring, off-season "nothing". Any real NU fan is wound up tighter than a drum and we're fully willing and able to discuss any variable that might effect our BigRedMachine. So please take it easy on us hard-cores.
  17. Because sometimes teams just play badly? There are a million different variables that affect the outcome of a football game. Exactly. Such as because footballs take unpredictable bounces.....duh. Turnovers, luck with the refs, injuries, match up problems....it goes on forever. That's why it's not that unusual.
  18. In a thread about Brion Carnes entitled "Why not Brion Carnes"? You get right out of town! Lol...it's amazing, isn't it?
  19. I think I'm gonna like coach Kaz!
  20. We still have Minter would be a sure commit. And if he is anything like his dad i'll take him. Amen.
  21. Well, you can rip him for the Wisconsin game to your heart's content. However, you just might want to consider that Beck himself said he blew it on that one. But after that one game in the Big10, Tmart threw a whole "two" interceptions vs the other seven Big10 teams. One of those "two" interceptions was a Hail Mary with 2 seconds left in the 1st half vs the Buckeyes so we're really talking "one" real interception. Anyway, for the final seven Big10 games Tmart was 108 for 165 (65%) for 1150 yds with 8 TDs & 2 interceptions. Joe Montana? Nope. But not nearly as horrible as so many project and five of those were vs some damn fine defenses (Iowa, Michigan State, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State). Then consider what his numbers would be if our wrs hadn't dropped passes all over the place? You know, winning games isn't all on our qb. Our Oline was inconsistent as best, our wrs dropped passes everywhere and our defense had problems in River City. We had way, WAYYY bigger problems than our qb last year.
