  1. I'm still pissed too. I have been a 'supporter of Doc' along with ya Nuance, but I'm done. I honestly think I see what may be a parallel to the latter Callahan years in FB - guys are so damned afraid of screwing up (getting pulled), they play 'tight' with a don't-mess-up mentality. (...it can look just like a lack of effort.) The feeling builds during a game and a season, and is given constant fuel by the substitution carousel. ...just thoughts. (Did I mention I'm still pissed?)
  2. Last year's Texas game is going to be dead and buried within a year. That 84 Orange Bowl will always burn for many of us who lived it. Plus if there's a chance it cuts the head off the Miami monster, that change lives on forever. Gotta add another vote for '84 O.B. (so daaaaaamn close to absolute perfection in a season)
  3. Ha, I know you! Well I don't know you, but I know there's a guy that's always freakin out right in that area up there in C1, so I assume it's you. You are one of the loudest fans in the Bob, I'll give you that. Bwahahahahaha! I think I do too!!!! Keep it up! and I agree with the comments re: 'always bitching'... btw, I think they're working hard to solve that A section debacle with the design of the new Arena - I believe the students will 'wrap' the court.
  4. Backer, I honestly don't understand this comment (and the hundreds of others like it.) Are the former players that speak, lying when they talk about their love of their time here, the fans, the atmosphere? I don't believe it's ever been drastically different than it is now (?) IMHO, the place has been pretty well filled this season for a team that only toyed with thoughts of the big dance; sometimes way up, sometimes way down... and despite being a great gym (for its day) it is still a crappy destination. (You know I've had gallons of the Arena koolaid!) Remember, the vast majority of fans had to rush around to finish work, change clothes, get kids, and just physically get to the game to even be there... they didn't have time to properly 'prime' for the experience. (Now, once the event is staged down in the Haymarket, where having much pre-show punch, and easily walking to the game is the order of the day, I expect bigger & better things!) Finally, I admit I just don't get the notion of 'staying berserk' for an entire game - it's just contrived to me... the crowd and atmosphere swells, explodes, or retreats some with the flow of the game. I do, however, think the natural 'energy' at our home games does a pretty good job of reflecting what our team is good at (defense), there's a real connection of our crowd to the shot clock when we're on defense. If the team was a perennial top 10 that was fighting for a national seed each game, I can see how the expectation/intensity would be different... but for now, I think we do alright (!?) ...just thoughts. The crowd of today is definitely different than the crowd of the 80s and 90s (granted I never experienced an 80s crowd first hand, but have heard numerous stories from many Husker fans older than myself). There's not an electricity in the air like there used to be, like there is at a Husker football game. Nebraska was up 10 with under 4 minutes to go yesterday and the media timeout came. Up 10 with less then 4 to play against a ranked Mizzou team, last home Big XII game EVER, that's exciting stuff. I stood up and cheered. Not one person in my section or the sections to either side of me stood, and there was barely an applause. Are you kidding me? The crowd was good for the Texas game and a handful of others, but nothing like it used to be and certainly not even close to the atmosphere you get at other Big XII venues. I understand what you're saying about the team not being great and people rushing home from work, but if it was a good crowd we wouldn't be discussing these excuses. You are correct about the shot clock, when it hits 10 the crowd gets loud, but what about the 25 seconds before that? Your points are taken. On some things, i s'pose we will just disagree... you have to go back to '82 for my student days, so I've been through a few different regimes - successes and failures. Honestly, I think a lot of it is like the city of Lincoln itself; it had one flavor/perception when I was a student, it had another slightly quieter atmosphere when I moved back and lived in a mid-town area, still close-ish to downtown, and now a completely different character living and working 'out on the edge'. It's the same town, pretty much, I've just seen it from different perspectives. (It will never again feel like what it did when you and the buds 'had a few pops' and got down to the game to fight for the best seats.) Note; it doesn't mean that 40 somethings aren't still crazy about the damn thing (you should be in my weekly 'garage discussions' libations included!) Finally, the football analogy is a tough one... THAT involves us all working very hard to get somewhat polluted before going to the game (regardless of the time of day), and the notion that WE'RE THE FRIGGIN' BEST AND WE'RE GONNA STOMP WHOEVER COMES IN HERE!!!! I know it's a chicken and egg thing, but in basketball, we just ain't there yet. (You have to understand that some of the reserve of the fans can be attributed to nerves on the part of the fans themselves - Oh sh**********t what are we gonna do!!!!!????????) IMHO.

  6. You've never ranted because you were mad, not meaning any of it, just yelled to vent? Read any of my posts, I'm the biggest Husker Hoops supporter you'll find. Don't sweat it... plenty of 'backer' backers out here... (I leave to get my gang to the game in 20 minutes.)
  7. Just a love/hate relationship... no football team on earth has made me want to punch walls like my Huskers. Passion is a strange drug.
  8. "-- Beck said he'll probably coach from the press box on game days, although he hasn't thought that far ahead, he added." This is from the same topic in LJS. Any thoughts on the OC in the box? ...I have always wondered, personally, how an OC can have proper in-game interaction with players about what they're experiencing on the field, when he's so removed (?)
  9. "I just want to put my face in those" I think the phrase is, "How'd you like to walk thru an acre of those, barefoot?"
  10. Honest question I'm throwing out to you guys... if Beck has been in-waiting, wouldn't he have had a keen eye for all that made up our offense? (and what he knew he would deal with / do differently) What I'm talking about here is Cotton. To what degree do you think he'll be allowed to assemble 'his' offensive staff?
  11. Is this vague enough to just be an assistant? (Just wondering legal-beagles out there...)
  12. Please never compare Lance to that other guy again, Signed a Yankee Hater holy crap what a brain cramp... i don't know where that came from.
  13. Totally forgot about bo spencer. That makes me feel much better. Hopefully he keeps his academics in line, that would be a huge boost for this team next year. The only incoming freshman that could potentially fill the void left at PG looks like Corey Hilliard, but even so it's hard to replace the leadership of Jeter. I'm hoping the younger guys are watching and paying attention to the play of Jeter... closely. There may be some who are reluctant to 'take him on' in that role this year, or simply waiting their turn - but i'm hoping they are seeing the value of the real fireplug on the floor. You can almost see the look in Derek's eye's when he has the thought, "that's enough of this sh*t!" and starts to just physically take people on. ...we may just have to call that position 'the Jeter'.
  14. This is what I'm thinking. We're FINALLY starting to put some effort into our hoops program, and after years (and years and years) of not caring, the school is ready to make something of this team. And it's about time. We've had a hoops program for 114 years, and for the most part, it's been an afterthought. If we're going to put the effort into building a decent team, which it appears like we're trying to do with the new arena, now's the time to jump on the bandwagon. This is our basketball history. It's just pitiful: Wikipedia Knapp, Can HB help the effort by giving 'HOOPS' it's own forum? Just a thought...
  15. I've always said to myself, "I'll care about UNL hoops when UNL cares about UNL hoops." Maybe that time is now? I'll admit, I'm not much of a basketball fan. I've been to a number of women's games in the past few years taking my family, but I think I've been to maybe two men's basketball games in the 22 years I've lived in Lincoln. In those 22 years there just hasn't been much to cheer about. I'm a Chicago Bulls fan, and aside from the Jordan Years in the 90s, I barely watch them. Never watch the NBA, rarely watch college hoops, and only follow March Madness to see how my brackets are doing. I think a lot of Husker fans are this way. We're the Kansas Football Fans of basketball. Frankly, we just haven't had much to cheer about for.... ever. I think the last time I really paid attention to the Huskers (read: had any reason to pay attention to them) was back in the days of the Polish Rifle. So I ask you, B-Ball followers - is it time? Has Doc built a team that won't utterly collapse on me, wasting my time? Knapp, and others... I do believe now is the time. My family has been going, but just pulled the trigger on season tickets - because we're damn sure going to be priority folks when the new Arena fires up! (Admit it, these cold nights, awful traffic, awful parking, and the Devany setting roughly on the South Dakota border don't help! - many were very late getting to the game because of the snarls.) My prediction is that all is coming together in the perfect storm (or my hope at least). A fantastic new arena surrounded by restaurants, bars, plazas, parking garages, large boulevards, & enclosed walkways to it all... combine that with a new practice facility, a bunch of fire-pissers on the floor, and some success ... BOOM! This place loves, i mean loves its college sports, and hoops will explode! here's hoping...
  16. random thoughts: couldn't believe how lousy GS was. really like to see Jeter just 'taking the damn thing' and putting this team more on his back every week... i think the cupcake tune-up has been great for him. agree w/ 'backer', would like to see our bigs develop faster in playing physical - i think they are... slowly... but geeze, they shoulda been pushing GS 'skinny' bigs all over the place. seeing better movement on offense without the ball. to start the game, the backdoor was beautiful - but bigs kept fumbling the damn thing. like to see us 'running' more (!) feels like the guys are developing better breakaway chemistry (feels like that's been missing last couple of years?) i think they'll get better as they continue to 'just do it' (as it ain't always pretty!) still 'anxious' about better competition (but hopeful!)
  17. 9.4 miles, unless I have to pick up more beer for tailgate... then add a few extra blocks.
  18. Robsker's points are very familiar... my good Prof-buddy in Microbiology at UNL has many similar views. However, Robsker does end with, "Last point... a good sports program definitely can help with donors." That's the point too many seem to miss - for us Huskers, our sports are definitely a net benefit to the University as a whole. Just check out the size of our University Foundation - I believe it's among the top in the country for our structure of University. Sports help keep the University in the consciousness of donors as they move thru their lives. As for the pay... even though we hate that we've got to compete salary-wise, facility-wise, with a world gone nuts, it's simply the nature of the beast. When the arguements rage, some people (not here - editorial page) seem too quick to want to cast off a net benefitthat other schools would kill to have.
  19. Yeah, and it's not like they are set in stone either. If they are not accepted by the fans and / or become a constant babble point on TV they could change them next year. these names will just go away or simply not be used (they'll be good for bar trivia in a few decades tho! (imo)
  20. This isn't an "article," it's a blog post. It's only very slightly different than the same posts you see here on HuskerBoard. Calling this an "article" is like calling Paris Hilton an actress. Heeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!! I saw "My night in Paris" gave it three stars (trying to hijack thread)
  21. I'm not sure that's gonna do anything to help Taylor's turf toe.
  22. Hey SEC, can you help get our buddy Oklahoma outta this mess?
