  1. On the North end-zone, Brown and Novak's numbers are in red because they are the only ones that have died.
  2. I took some visiting family and friends to the Husker Experience room in North Stadium on Thanksgiving Day. As usual, once the show finished, the doors opened automatically. Who was standing there waiting to enter next? Taylor Martinez, his dad, and a couple of younger kids. As we were leaving, Mike McNeil came in the front door and went out of his way to walk over to Taylor's dad, say hello, and shake his hand. If what has been stated in the OP is true, I find it hard to believe that a senior leader like Mike McNeil would even acknowledge his presence let alone go out of his way to stop and say hello to Taylor's dad. I'm not offering this as any indication that Taylor won't leave or that there wasn't a serious discussion about his future with the team. However, Bo said very directly that Taylor was not suspended and it is hard to believe that he would lie outright and directly about a topic like this, especially if it was a known fact throughout the team. Just my two cents.
  3. Green = Starter vs. ISU Martinez = 80% with ankle sprain Lee = out for season with wrist injury There is no lack of confidence in Cody from coaches or teammates. He's way beyond capable.
  4. As for the damage in the picture, that's what happens when a LandRover hits a LaBaron broadside at just about any speed.
  5. .035 is not DUI (far from it). There was no arrest unless it was for reckless driving. Suh is not going to be suspended for this. Oh, and I'll bet all three of these folks will get new cars once Big Suh graduates.
  6. I'm going to go out on a limb and say the Kevin's not visiting KU and he isn't going to KU.
  7. Not a Rivals member, but the individual in the picture is Brandon Kinnie. He's a Juco WR from Fort Scott, Kansas. He appears to be "N".
  8. The only VERIFIED fact about the Cody Glenn situation: "We're not commenting on that situation just for the privacy of the young man," Carl Pelini said. "It was a violation of team rules and that's going to be kept in-house."
  9. Your cousin? Indefinitely suspended for being insubordinate? That's what you came up with? Seriously?
  10. Alonzo Whaley Outside linebacker Madisonville (TX) Madisonville Ht: 6-foot-0 (Event) Wt: 213 lbs Forty: 4.58 secs Was scheduled to visit 1/25 but will reportedly now be in Lincoln tomorrow. Turn on the stadium lights and fire up Huskervision !!
  11. I will elaborate ... Moore has committed to Tulsa. Furthermore, he never had an official offer from Nebraska.
  12. I'm going to go out on a limb and say the Huskers will have a new head football coach this weekend. Brian Rosenthal from LJS wrote, "One player told me that Osborne didn't name any candidates in the coaching search, and would only say that a coach may be hired by this weekend." How cool would it be to have CBS talking about our new head coach (and showing him on the sidelines) throughout the SEC Championship Game?
  13. A little less than 5 years ago, two guys worked together to come up with a game plan to beat Michigan State in the 2003 Alamo Bowl. The Huskers gave up 3 points to the Spartans who managed only 18 yards rushing on 23 carries. The Nebraska defense sacked MSU QB Jeff Smoker 5 times and came up with three pass interceptions. The Nebraska offense tallied 17 points and 389 yards of total offense (229 yards rushing, 160 yards passing). The Huskers did not have a turnover. Think about those numbers for a second. The defense came up with 3 turnovers and gave up only 18 yards rushing. The 2007 Huskers got one turnover in their last 7 games and I doubt any of us could count the number of individual running plays of more than 18 yards the "blackshirts" gave up this season. OK, so the 2003 Alamo Bowl was one game. But it was one game that followed a tumultuous month of coaches and players pulling together after the firing of head coach Frank Solich. Fast forward to November 2007. The two coaches that led Nebraska to that Alamo Bowl victory are vying for the same job, or are they? Could it be that they are going to be asked to pull the team together after the firing of a different head coach? The guy who coached that team, Bo Pelini, has been a defensive coordinator for two very successful programs since leaving Nebraska. He is apparently very interested in coming back as head coach at Nebraska because he just took a plane ride from Louisiana to Georgia with the University President an the Athletic Director to talk it over. I wonder if the subject of assistant coaches came up? The conventional wisdom is that Turner Gill would not leave a head coaching position for an assistant coaching job. For most guys, that would be too big of a blow to the ego. But what if the guy you worked for most of your life, the guy you asked to be the best man at your wedding, the guy you admire more than anyone in the world, asked you (on behalf of the new head coach) to come home and help rebuild their broken house? Would you do it if you knew you weren't going to be the foreman? I know, it's a stretch. But this is Rumorville. It's the place for "what if's". Can you imagine it? Do you think Tom Osborne can imagine it? Most importantly, can Bo Pelini and Turner Gill imagine it? Will Tom Osborne go for two?
  14. I am very confident that the coaching search is down to two. Bo Pelini and Turner Gill. I was hoping for clues at the press conference as to which one of these two guys it would be. Tom was quick to point out that he has been talking with Gill on a weekly basis. He also mentioned the names of several other coaches he has been talking with. Every one of them has worked with Gill. All but one of them (Bohl) has worked with Pelini. On more than one occasion during the press conference, Osborne also mentioned the need for someone that can motivate players. (Bo Pelini, move ahead ten spaces). The LJS was handed the story about Pelini being contacted by a search firm. It sure would be interesting to know who leaked that. I guarantee you it was someone in Pelini's camp. I am also certain that Osborne knew the search firm was being contacted, but not sure if he knew it was going to take place before the press conference. Bo wants this job. If Solly is correct, and I believe he is, Pelini will be interviewed by Osborne tomorrow or Monday. Unless Tom wants to take on the folks that brought him back to the athletic department, Pelini will get the job. The only one with enough clout to derail the Pelini express is Tom Osborne. Would he do that for his good friend Turner Gill? Not likely unless Pelini totally blows the interview. As for the requirements for waiting a specific amount of time on hiring because of NU being a state institution. Yeah, tell that to Solich, who was given the same job by Osborne without the formal approval of AD Bill Byrne. In other words, this job ain't gonna be posted on the state's employment opportunities web site. There may be other perfunctory interviews, but Nebraska will have a new head coach very, very soon. Plan A= Bo Pelini. Plan B-= Turner Gill.
  15. Word leaked out from donors about Pederson being fired before people on SP's own staff even had a clue. I do know this is true as I know two people in the AD's office that hadn't even heard the rumor while KETV was already running it as a crawl across the screen on the day it happened. One of these people told me that Pederson himself was surprised by the firing. He thought he was going to be reprimanded, or so he claimed. At about the same time, word leaked out from the same donors that TO was going to be the new AD and that Bo Pelini was going to be the new HC. We know that TO agreed to become the AD and that Callahan had to go, but did he agree to hire Bo Pelini? Along the road there were some signals crossed as some big donors wanted to pay the $$ to buy out Callahan at any cost while Osborne and at least one other big donor did not. Callahan thought the buyout was going to happen and would have resigned after the Texas game. The buyout was nixed. Cally and his agent were pissed (and we ended up analyzing soil samples). Callahan began making it clear that he did not want to work for Osborne (which actually makes sense from the perspective of a lame duck). The tit for tat with former players at practice, Watson on the sidelines, Cally referencing the "higher ups", not being on field with players after the KSU win, etc.. continued to play out. There hasn't been a doubt since Pederson was fired that Callahan would follow. The only question was whether it would happen during the season or after. Osborne answered that question by publicly stating the coaches would be "evaluated" after the season (er, the Colorado game). The man kept his word and will evaluate Callahan out of a job on Saturday morning. The only question left to answer, and it is a big one, concerns the hiring of the next head coach. This was originally supposed to be Bo Pelini, but if Osborne has garnered enough support, I now believe it may very well be Turner Gill. I don't believe there is a third candidate and I do believe the new HC will be announced in the very near future (perhaps as soon as Monday). Then again, this is Rumorville, right?
  16. If Pelini were going to be head coach, he might select Ron Brown as an assistant. If Turner Gill becomes head coach, he will have former Huskers (many with NFL experience and others with college coaching experience) lining up at his door to help put Nebraska back on top. Again, I originally believed Bo had the job sewn up, and he may still have it. I'll be thrilled if Bo comes in because the defense will get an immediate shot in the arm (well, the mouth first and then the arm). I think Bo would be a great coach and would more often than not win 8, 9, or 10 games. The only reason I think Turner is going to get the job is that I now believe this is Tom's choice. The donors might pick Pelini, but the former three time national championship coach is pre-disposed to picking Gill. It just fits his personality to go with the tried and true. Then again, this is the same guy that ran the fumbleroosky and went for two in Miami when the extra point would have given him a sure thing.
  17. - Which guy consistently displays class and humility? - Which guy would respect and even seek the advice of ADTO? - Which guy bleeds Husker Red more than NFL green? - Which guy would probably step down on his own if he significantly damaged the program?
  18. Ron Brown = Motivational Speaker But he doesn't live in a van down by the river.
  19. Which coaching candidate shares TO's values? If the story written the day after Osborne hires a head coach starts this way ... Today Tom Osborne stayed true to his values and hired the most logical choice as the next head coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. How would the next line read?
  20. I'll state up front that I am purely speculating, but it seems to me the evidence is building ... - Salary of around $1 million. Who, from the list of candidates being mentioned (including Pelini) is going to come to Nebraska for that money? It would be a huge salary increase for TG. - Matt Davison snd others stated that the new coach would be in place soon. Again, most of the candidates being mentioned are still coaching games. Not Gill. And for those that say there is a requirement that any state job be posted for 5 days ... (tell that to Frank Solich). Who else interviewed for the job when Tom went over Byrne's head to hire Frank? - Which leads to another reason I think it's Gill. Sometimes the best way to predict what a guy is going to do in the future is to look at what he's done in the past. When in doubt, go with what you know. Tom knows and trusts Turner with his most prized possession. - The biggest message Osborne has tried convey since returning is that Husker football is about tradition and loyalty. There are no other coaches out there (with deep Husker roots) that are as qualified as Gill. - Many former players still harbor resentment over the firing of Solich and other loyal Husker coaches. Gill would have the support of every player that played at Nebraska while he was here (this would include almost every Husker that has played in the NFL in the last 25 years). - For better or worse, hiring Gill is the "Husker Way". OK. Fire away. It's just an opinion based on the small amount of information that has come out since Pederson was fired. Speaking of that... How could you keep the hiring of the new HC at Nebraska so quiet? Maybe you could do it if you were a committee of one and you planned on hiring a former employee?
  21. Bill Callahan does not want to work for or with Tom Osborne and has said this in front of more than one person. I will not identify the source because he works with the team, but he heard it first hand. A few questions for those who think BC will be staying on... Why would Osborne be holding a coaches meeting the day after the Colorado game if the coaches aren't going anywhere? What's the rush? Why did Randy York need to qualify when this "end of season" meeting was going to take place? If Osborne already knows Callahan is staying, why wouldn't he tell him now and avoid any more bleeding from the recruiting class?
  22. Pelini wants Nebraska. Nebraska wants Pelini. Those feelings have only grown since Steve Pederson snubbed Bo and found Callahan under a dark cloud in Oakland. Osborne is playing this by the book and has effectively placed Callahan in a box. Callahan cannot counterpunch with Tom because the good doctor isn't entering the ring (at least not in public). Callahan and his agent over-reached in their buyout terms. The "higher ups" called BC's bluff and decided to leave BC in place through the Colorado game. There is no panic in the top office in north stadium because everything is falling into place. Patience is a virtue.
  23. I have been in the stadium for every game of Callahan's career and I don't care what you've heard, but the booing was directed towards the coaches and not the players. Did a large number of fans leave after the Huskers were down 38-0 to Okie State at halftime? Yes. However, I guarantee you that more Husker fans stayed to watch their team be humiliated than any other fans in the world would have. Hell, fans of KSU and top 10 ranked Missouri can't even fill their much smaller stadiums when their teams are winning. Honestly, even having an argument like this is stupid because only time will tell the true story. I have great confidence in the true fans of Nebraska football. Many believe that they are just like other college football fans. They aren't. Don't take my word for it. Show up on Saturday and you tell me. Do you really think KSU, KU, CU, Missouri, or ISU would fill 84,000 seats if their team was 4-6 and coming off a 76-39 ass whipping? Patience is a virtue.
  24. First, Callahan has no chance of returning as head coach. Second, the sellout streak is not in jeopardy. Anyone who thinks it is knows nothing about the UNL athletic department or the ticket situation. The waiting list is huge and it would get even larger if the required season ticket "donation" were reduced or dropped (which would happen long before the university put the sellout streak in jeopardy). Third, what is it going to take for people to realize that recruiting is an art and not a science? Kansas is 9-0 and has zero 5 star players and only one 4 star player on their roster. The art of recruiting is not about signing the best rated player at every position, it's about finding great athletes that will play together with a common purpose (not a selfish purpose). There are plenty of great athletes that would love to play for Nebraska. Maybe it isn't the to place for kids that only want to play in the NFL, but it is without question one of the best environments in the world to play "college" football.
