  1. And why is he being discussed in the football posts ?
  2. Good Lord. this is 7th grade with Coaches Harris and Brown style FOOTBALL tackling. Fifty years ago !!! Tackle the core and drive. Once you've contacted the waist, reach for single leg take down. Look at the belly .... no amount of shuck and jive can go anywhere without the belly button.
  3. One poll I saw had us #1 to start the 2016 campaign. We're the only team listed !! Of course, it is my own poll and it carries just as much weight as any of the others at this point !! Gotta believe brothers and sisters !! Gotta Believe !! GBR
  4. I like it. Let's see how they respond. All I can say to this is ...................... DITTO ! It will be interesting to see if improvement actually occurs comes September and October 2016.
  5. Huskers will have to "dink and dunk" successfully if they want to win this game. I believe NU has a better receiver corps for the passing game, but weather may preclude much of that for both teams. Iowa has made their year on "dink and dunk", especially with a diversified run game. Stuff the run, and keep the ball out of Kreiger Coble's hands on defense, and away from Desmond King while NU has the ball, and the Huskers can win this going away. The Hawkeye fans are starting to question the integrity of their defense. TA and company need to take care of business quickly and routinely in the first half. DO NOT trade scores up and down the field. Iowa has a much better history of taking advantage of turn overs. NU, not so much. Keep the damn ball to themselves and simply score, score, score, repeat. DO NOT let the Squawkeyes hang around until the fourth quarter. GBR !
  6. I'll admit to saying the heart was missing from this team for last couple of games. Tonight , I saw mistakes that were not repeated. And so much heart and soul. These kids deserved this one, and I'm glad the calls and the bounces went their way for once. Let's hope they complete their schedule with three consecutive victories. GO BIG RED !
  7. BTW, check the list of one year wonders at Yale. They got NU in spades in the short term coach department.
  8. NOT ! It will remain a short list of those before 1900, two each during the great wars, and the final one stuck in the middle of the "Dark Ages" of Husker football. (Ironically, he had been an assistant at Oregon State) The current coach from Oregon State isn't going to join that list.
  9. Faith and honor held high.
  10. So be it. Can't say as though we'd miss anybody right now.
  11. Sounds like you have friends that aren't real NU fans.
  12. Read the comments on the "Benning" post is all I'm saying. Riley may turn out to be a horrible hire, but with the effort from the players so far, it's hard to tell. I'm as frustrated as any of you, but I find myself yelling at the TV screen due to dumb mistakes and brain farts out there between the sidelines, not outside them. I'l mention one that happens every game. TA trying for the TD bomb and the ESPN moment. Happens every game. Offense needs 2-3 yards, he, invariably, launches one 40 yards up field. Tuck and run the damn thing for the first down and keep the drive alive, or use the tools given to you and read down your shorter yardage options. Now this doesn't sound like a lack of desire, but it is a repeated mistake every game that he never seems to learn from. It's happened every game. In the last couple of years he has manged to pull off a couple of winners, but the percentages are higher that he throws long, short, wide or to the pick, killing the drive and the momentum.
  13. I don't think that is the case...I think they feel like they fired a "good coach" and brought in an "average coach"...that was (in their minds) mistake one. Mix in losing a bunch of games and it only validates that. If a stud had been brought in OR a guy with no proven track record...there would be (I think) a very different vibe. I still don't get a "vibe"from this group of players, regardless of coach. They seem fractured and lacking interest in even trying to become a better football team. As Sam mentioned in his article, nothing really has changed in them. Same mistakes, same efforts, simply different outcomes this year, which leads to a losing record. I think I their "luck" was used up the past couple of years. NU could have easily had a similar record in a couple of the last 4-5 years. Many have mentioned that on here previously. This generation of players is still in "everybody gets a ribbon" mode. Not the "die for your team mate" mentality of twenty or thirty years ago. There are not enough "players" in this group. I'm sorry, but our close losses this year can be attributed to the efforts of Riley's staff, versus the blowouts and the perennial four losses of the last regime. They are being put in a position to be in every game, but the luck has run out, and the desire to want the win simply isn't there. You can't teach desire. You can speak to it all you want, but the kids have to get it on their own.
  14. Problem is ........ we could hire Urban Meyer or Nick Saban and still not get anything more out of this group of players. They're lost and apathetic to the cause.
  15. Yeah ....... WTF !! Oops, sorry, I'm dyslexic.
  16. Horrible ! What I witnessed from East Stadium on Saturday was hard to watch. It needs fixed THIS WEEK ! There is no reason we shouldn't be expected to win all but one game (MSU) the rest of the way. I we had better be competitive with MSU. At this point, if we can't fix penalties, then from now on, every opponent attempt at a completion beyond 20 yards better be called for pass interference. Our DB's would be better served by 1st downs and 15-yd penalties as opposed to 35+ yard receptions.
  17. Correct. And one of Tommy's down sides is seemly always looking for the home run instead of the first down and continuation of the drive. Allen was wide open, though.
  18. Osborne won plenty of "big games" along the way too. I didn't go to include the Solich years, but the Callahan years are shown too. Osborne lost to OKLA more times than I care to remember, and couldn't win a bowl game to boot for years. Seemingly always embarrassed. Perseverance friends ..... perseverance !! The worm will turn someday.
