  1. wow, that is pretty harsh, but I have to admit I like it a lot. I do hope he has a job, but just not with the Huskers. $62,500. a month, that's MONTH, for four years, who cares if he finds work. ...T_O_B
  2. Good Job A.M. I too feel that the situation presented to a new coach is one that will be very inviting. You also reminded me of the biggest travesty committed by the Big 12, not scheduling Nebraska vr Oklahoma every year on the day after Thanksgiving. Colorado just doesn't have the same appeal. Boo to you Big 12 masterminds! ...T_O_B
  3. $62,500. a month, that's $2,054.79 a day. OMG!!!!! With that kind of money... well you could do a lot. Like buy a bus ticket and get the hell out of Lincoln. ...T_O_B
  4. My first game was in the mid-70ies. We played Wash. St. and got beat by Jack Thompson, the throwin' Samoan. The one thing that has always stuck in my mind was that I saw one of our players who looked small. I looked him up in the program and he was 6'2", 228 lbs. Standing beside me he would have looked like a giant. Been back to many games since, and they just keep getting better. ...T_O_B
  5. LP was probably one of the 3 best I-backs we ever had. He was a troubled kid to say the least, but still a great football player. TO thought it was better for him to be in the team environment, that this was a way to help him find the right path to his future. Unfortunately it didn't work-out and I'm sure that TO feels some sense of failure for the way things have turned out for LP. Cally is a whole different deal. There is nothing to be gained for either the Nebraska football program or coach Callahan if TO retains his services. ...T_O_B
  6. Yes, we expect excellence, to accept anything else would be a dis-service to the team and its coaches. When you stop expecting excellence you say medieocre (sp) is OK. No thanks, as far as I'm concerned the attitude that it doesn't matter if you win or lose will be the downfall of our great nation. Winning takes hard work, you have to pay the price and it should hurt, hurt like hell when you lose. Soccer leagues that give a trophy to every kid that plays should be banned. Everyone getting a trophy lessens the value of the trophy given to the winners and teaches the rest of the league that there is reward for losing. Teach your kids that they need to strive for excellence that they need to try and strive to win every time they play the game. Will they win every game, probably not but it is that quest of excellence that creates winners. ...T_O_B
  7. One point was forgotten; 8-8, 9-7, 10-6 and 11-5 can get you into the playoffs. 10-6 and better are considered good seasons. In college 2 losses and you are out of the picture as far as the national championship and on your way to the Garbage Can Bowl in early December that is shown on Lifetime, the Women's Channel. College is pressure football, every game means something. You can't afford to lose and you can't afford to beat Ball State by one point. BC just didn't get it. ...T_O_B
  8. This is rapidly becoming a non-issue. TO has said he would evaluate at the end of the season, whether that is the day after the CU game or sometime after that is of no consequence. If Cally is gone, and I do think he will be, then we will begin to rebuild this coaching staff at that time. To have let him go at any point prior to the end of the season would have set a precedent that would not speak well for this program in the mind of any prospective coach. When Cally was hired it took some time because there were coaches that did not want the job. Hard to believe, great record, great tradition, great (sometimes debatable) fans and great facilities but at least two and possibly three coaches said no to Nebraska. We don't want that to happen again. ...T_O_B
  9. This morning on "Mike and Mike" while discussing the NFL a comment was made that "the Tight End is the most under utilized weapon in (pro)football." That struck home with me and says something about Cally's style of play. I have always considered the TE a valuable part of the Husker offence, not only as a blocker but also as a receiver. For the last four years the TE has been the forgotten man. I went to our roster to check on the names of our TE's and I didn't really recognize any of them, I still remember Jeff Finn, Jr. Miller and Sheldon Jackson but I couldn't remember this years starter. Shame on me but more so shame on HCBC. This is a position that should never be under utilized. ...T_O_B
  10. A pro coach has to protect his players from injury, BC is a pro coach and brought a pro mentality to Nebraska, hence no real hitting in practice. One of many mistakes. College players need to hit in practice that way they aren't shocked when Saturday comes and some guy from the other team pops them. My old coach used to say that you play like you practice so practice hard and tough and that's how you will play when it counts. ...T_O_B
  11. Starz or no starz these kids are just that, high school kids. There development into college players depends a great deal on how quickly they can mature and how coachable they are. You can get by on athletic ability alone in HS but when it comes to college its a whole new ballgame. HS to college to the pros, its a different world at each level. Some make it, most don't. We lost Gabbert, who cares, Joe Daly is now a receiver, heard anything from Harrison Beck lately? The only thing we have to worry about right now is... WHO THE NEW COACH WILL BE AND IS HE THE RIGHT GUY FOR NEBRASKA. ...T_O_B
  12. The TO led Huskers were the best football program in the country for thirty years. TO -- never fewer than 9 wins, an opportunity to be #1 every year and a bowl game every year. The only other name that belongs in the conversation is John Wooden. Like TO, well respected and a true gentleman. ...T_O_B
  13. This is a very ignorant comment. NO ONE is to blame for this other than the idiot who called Coz himself. You are so hell bent on blaming everything on Callahan. People are such idiots about blaming Callahan for everything. Sure he deserves some blame for on the field stuff, but I've heard people blame him for taking the pictures down of past all-americans. WRONG! That was Pedey. I've heard people say Callahans the one who distanced the program from the past players. WRONG! That was Pedey as well. And now you blame Callahan for these death threats on Coz???!!!! HOW CAN YOU BLAME THIS ON CALLAHAN! Because he gave the guy a job and wanted to stick by him until at least the end of the season. This is probably THE MOST ignorant comment I have ever seen! I almost don't believe it's just the coaches bringing this program down, it's us fans that are pouring gasoline on this flaming jet while it's plummetting to the ground. This is just laughable to try to pin something else to Callahan!!! I don't usually agree with you, but you are dead one this one. GBR!!! The HC and his staff may not have been the right coaches for Nebraska. That being said I also believe that they are doing the best that they can under the circumstances. The verbal abuse that they and their families are being exposed to is disgusting. I'm almost certain that if any of us were to share a table in the club car of a cross country train with any of these men we would come away from the experience with a much different opinion of them. Time to stop all this Cally/Cos bashing and get ready to move on. What's done is done and nothing we can say or do will change anything. ...T_O_B
  14. Helen Keller is scary against our rush defense. She's very good with miss-direction plays.
  15. that would be odd. can just the D wear black shirts during games? if so that would be pretty sweet. The "D" has to earn the Black Shirts back. They played good at times last week but K-state still got 31 and some of them came way too easy. The "D" this year is still wearing, at best, dark grey jerseys. ...T_O_B
  16. This guy, I want him gone so bad that I will offer my services to sit with him and play Gin in the club car of the train that takes him to where ever he wants to go. I'll also donate all the money I win from him back to UNL.
  17. The object of any game: When on offence you score. When on defence you stop the other guy from scoring. Running up the score is a product of how you play your players. If the team is comfortable with how they played and if all seniors got a chance to at least be on the field for a play or two then that's acceptable. TO was once called out for running up the score on a very poor Minnesota team. No one bothered to note that the '83 Huskers were one of the best teams ever, that the '83 Gophers were one of the worst teams ever, that they played in a fast track dome and that NCAA rules limited the number of players who could travel. Great team, bad team, in doors and TO didn't have enough players to stop the scoring. There is no running up the score there is only playing the game. ...T_O_B
  18. You are right, you are not a Nebraska fan, doesn't sound like you are much of an ASU or USC fan either. You are one of those fans who jumps on the band wagon depending on how fair the weather is. Consequently you should just read, make no replys and... just shut up! ...T_O_B, Husker fan for 37 years, win or lose, sunshine or rain, through thick and thin till they bury my red to the bone body in a red casket on the plains of Nebraska.
  19. the simple fact that bc basically dismantled the walk on program showed that he just doesn't get it. What is the definition of a walk on? "A young man who who wants to play football at Nebraska and will give his all to suceed in his goal to do so. He could have got a scolarship to some other school but his desire the play for the Big Red is all encompassing. His attitude, desire, passion and loyalty to the Huskers is priceless and infecutious (sp)." To not recognize the value of this prograqm is enough reason by itself to justify getting rid of Callihan. ...T_O_B
  20. All season long the ESPN talking heads have been sucking up to the SEC as the strongest conference in the country. Well its time for them to give credit where credit is due. Big 12!! Country's only major undefeated team (Sorry Hawaii) three teams in the top five. Nuff said. ...T_O_B
  21. Kansas all the way! If they go undefeated it does the most to F UP the BCS which has done more harm to college football than anything in history. It also says a big SHUT UP to a lot of ESPN TV and radio talking heads. ...T_O_B
  22. Trucker is right. I can't see TO doing anything until after CU and I really can't see him messin' with a coach who is very involved with a possible BCS Championship team. ...T_O_B
  23. Not only is Joe Playing lights out but they have finally figured out that Mo P should be on the field and when he is he should be the first or second option. ...T_O_B
